When I made the reservation online, there was no warning that the uhaul center needed 24 hours notice to rent a ubox. I called ahead but the phone was forwarded to the corporate answering service which said they had uboxes available to rent right then so I thought I'd be fine. I got there the next morning and they told me I needed to have given 24 hours notice. After I had waited around for several hours, they sent me a mile down the road to another uhaul site where there were several uboxes out front on trailers ready to go. I loaded up the trailer and returned it. When I made the reservation online, I thought I had arranged to have the ubox delivered when it got RIP the destination. There was no evidence that I had arranged delivery and it said my ubox would be available for unloading on the day I had planned to have it delivered. I assumed that I had made a mistake and failed to ask for delivery. On the scheduled day, I called customer service to verify that my box was available to unload and to ask if I could tow it with the vehicle I had available. They told me the box wasn't there and wouldn't be for another week and nobody would be able to help me get it delivered. I wad frustrated so I drove to the uhaul site that was supposed to have my ubox and they had it sitting ready for me to access. I rented a small truck, moved the contents of the ubox into the truck, and took it home. Then I returned the truck abs the ubox. The next day, I got a text from uhaul. U-Haul res #22018320 is scheduled for 12:00 PM on 9/22/2021 to 12:00 PM on 9/23/2021. Visit uhaul.com for online check-in. I thought this was probably because they were going to deliver the ubox so I called the customer service number and opted for the call back in 43 minutes. The woman who called me back couldn't help me so she forwarded me to customer service where I waited on hold for a long time. Kevin, who answered the phone, misunderstood my story repeatedly and ended up contacting the agent at the uhaul where I had rented and returned the truck who said she hadn't cleared my rental from the system, which seems odd given that I got separate receipts for the truck and the ubox. I have no way of finding out what I actually ordered because the receipt isn't specific and customer service isn't helpful. The uhaul website is difficult to use and doesn't give good feedback, the phone system is misleading, and the sites are woefully understaffed. I will never go back there.LINDA M.

After picking up the car, I noticed what I think is a short in the wiring. Every time I hit a bump or brake there is a brief "static" noise in the car. I plan to bring the car back in the morning and hopefully it will be corrected.Raymond R.
Check in process was slow since I had to designate two other contacts after I had found the truck in the UHaul parking lot. I had to wait for authorization for five minutes or more. Perhaps this step was offered beforehand but I did not see it until I was at the location and trying to pick up the truck.Tim O.

When I first arrived there was no one at the desk and one person waiting. By the time help arrived there were at least six people in line. Three employees arrived at the same time and started assisting customers. Once help arrived it was fast and courteous. I had paid for a truck, furniture pads and a hand dolly, but the pads and dolly were not in the truck. Didn't realize it until I had arrived at my destination and didn't have time to go back and get them. Without the dolly the move took a little longer, but I was able to extend my rental an hour and was credited for the pads and dolly. All turned out okay. It's not because of the location, the employees were fine; it Uhaul as a company!!! I'll try to NEVER use Uhaul again if possible. I find your online rental process super manipulating and fear-based. I think it's terrible to take advantage of peoples anxiety in a time when there is so much stress on everyone. Getting someone on the phone is also a HORRIBLE experience. I waited an hour on the phone to ask a 30 second question to a live person at the site where I had just rented from because they are so clearly understaffed. Oh boy where do I start. Here's my story, buckle up: I rented a Ubox a month before delivery, it was the most affordable option and I've used Uhaul before with great results. Two days before the Ubox was supposed to arrive, I got a phone call telling me they had sold out and that the only thing they could do was offer me a reservation for a discounted Uhaul truck. At this point, moving with any other company was two to three times the cost it was back in June, I had already booked plane tickets, and made other arrangements. In other words I was screwed financially and timely. When I asked if the Uhaul truck would be guaranteed they said no we can't guarantee a reservation. Guys, you need to change your wording then because not only is that misleading but questionably false advertising. I'm very happy I asked because what happened if that day arrived and they weren't able to supply one. Then I'm even more screwed. BUT! We got lucky! Somehow the next morning after scrambling all night to try to find something new, my mom was able to find a last minute Ubox! We were extremely happy. However, here comes one of the new problems we were faced with, the contract link on the original account. Because they canceled my initial reservation, we had no means of tracking this new one. But we will get more into that later. Problem 2 came: customer service. I understand that July/August/September is an extremely difficult time for you guys, especially in a college town. I highly want to stress hiring and paying your employees more. When I worked with the woman who drove the truck that dropped off the Ubox, she had been working 12 hour shifts for the whole week because there was this huge mess up with these Uboxes. She was tired and stressed and it showed. She was not directly rude however as an introduction to me she said "is your mom the one that called 300 times." not a hello, not even silence, just a direct rude jab at my mom. I want to say this, you guys messed up on your end with this Ubox. We had this set up for a month and then two days out you dropped us, leaving us scrambling and then when WE were able to figure something out, the only response we got was rudeness. Also I would like to note that I did not get the customary 3 days that you are supposed to with Ubox because she wasn't even scheduled to work then so it was getting picked up the next day. Problem 3: Tracking, contract, and delivery So my original Ubox was supposed to be delivered on August 16. It was not delivered until September 5. We were compensated 850 $because of this. However, for about a good two weeks I was not sure/didn't trust you guys to even know where it was and I couldn't get a straight answer online or on the phone until a couple of days before. Problem 4: Being on hold I have your "on hold" message memorized from spending hours, and I mean hours, on hold. One day I spent time on hold for over 2 hours and was passed to maybe 5 people and not a single person could help. They would try to send me to Madison and instead I would go to Milwaukee and they would apologize and send me back to someone I'd already spoken with. This was a horrible experience. I tried your chat online, I tried your headquarters number (which is eventually who was able to help me), and I started an email (aka paper trail). Problem 5: Email I sent an email explaining my situation and was told I would be contacted shortly by the traffic manager. I never was. Eventually I had to send another email threatening to find a lawyer. Only then did I ever receive any type of communication back from you guys. Oh and also I was told by two people they would call me back after looking into it and I was never called back. In sum: Uhaul - pay your employees more. This is gross mismanagement on literally every part of this process on your end. I'm lucky that my stuff did arrive and I was compensated however, the stress that I was subjected to, the lack of communication, the unprofessionalism was terrible. I will not recommend this to anyone, as a matter of fact I will actively work to warn others about this.Lora W.

We were told when we picked up the truck, that the drop off location did not matter. When we were ready to drop off the truck, we called and changed drop off location and were told we could. When we got to that location (602 W Washington Ave) they would not take the truck. They were rude and unhelpful. In my opinion, they were being lazy!Deborah K.

Location was good. Streets were not too busy, however finding your vehicle/trailer can be confusing. We rented a 20 ft truck for moving and, while it was clean, it smelled pretty bad. I don't even know where to begin. This was honestly the worst company I've ever worked withâ€¦ and that's saying a lot. First, the truck that supposed to Deliver my uboxes was apparently hit by another truck two days before my move. I came out to my car to a message telling me that my uboxes were scheduled to arrive 9 days after I needed them. After 3 hours on the phone being transferred to every department, seriously one time I was transferred to the IT department???!!!!, I eventually got through to someone who informed me that â€œthey didn't plan for the truck to get hit by another truckâ€ and that the best they could do was have me drive 45 minutes each way from my house to the location to rent a truck and trailer and deliver and drop them off myself. They then provided me with a 200 $gift certificate â€œfor future moves, storage, etcâ€. Because I was in a bind and major time crunch I didn't have time to mess around anymore and eventually ended up paying the movers a ton more to bring their own truck, drive across town, and unload the truck into these uboxes. So then I try to redeem my 200 $gift certificate only to be told I can only use it for in store purchases and I'm like I don't want 200 $of packing tape I want to use it for these uboxes like I was told I couldâ€¦ many messages were left for the store manager but I never heard back. Fun fact, if no one answers at the designated location, calls are redirected to another call center where you get the immense joy of having to explain the entire situation only to be told that there's nothing they can do and they'll leave a message for the store manager. So then I look at my account and notice that I'm being charged for another month of storage. Now this one is really fantastic. My billing cycle went from the 28-28. I closed on my house on the 27. I was informed that uhaul could not deliver these uboxes until the 29 and thus I was being charged for another month of using these uboxes. So began another round of phone calls, hours of wasted time, and numerous reassurances that I would not be charged for these uboxes. So hold on to that fact because that will be important later. Because I hired movers for the 29th I kept trying to get a time that the uboxes would arrive. Literally no one could tell me that. I called numerous times only to be told that someone would contact me the following day, and the next, and the nextâ€¦ you get the pictureâ€¦ only to never be contacted. Finally two days before I close on my house I get a hold of the manager who proceeds to tell me that THE ONE DRIVER they have to deliver these uboxes was in the hospital but that they had a plan B, not to worry, and she would contact me first thing the next day. She never does. I called her on both Thursday and Friday only to have her tell me that they can't deliver the uboxes and that it will be a while before they arrive. I ask about the plan Bâ€¦ no response. I tell her that my uboxes need to arrive by the time the movers are scheduled to arrive (important to note that the moving company moved mountains to arrange for workers to come on a Sunday As they don't typically work Sundays) and tell her I'll come drive the truck if need be. I tell her to tell her boss to drive the truck, she tells me her boss is in court, which came as a shock to no one. She then proceeded to tell me about how hard it is to hire people right now and blah Blah blah to which I responded with if you don't have the resources THEN STOP TAKING BUSINESS. Eventually my uboxes arrive on the 28th, a day early but whatever, and I'm reassured again I won't be charged for them. I check my bank account on the 30, guess what????? I was charged for all 5 uboxes!!!! I call again. The lady has no idea what I'm talking about, eventually figured it out and I'm told the money will be in my account in 3-7 business days. The money is still not back in my account and the thought of having to call uhaul ever again sends chills down my spine. Please give me my money back. Also, I have let everyone I know about this experience in hopes that no one has to ever waste their time and money dealing with a company that banks on their consumers being at their mercy and taking whatever they can get. Now refund my money and if I ever see a uhaul truck again it will be too soon.NICOLE D.

As a result, our 1 month free storage discount with our rental truck was not added and our insurance was taken off so we had to read it. I ordered a 15' truck and it was not available. I did not have time to drive to another location to get one. I received a 20' truck, but this was more difficult and stressful to maneuver, and was almost half empty during my drive. Try to provide people with what they request; they do so for a reason.Max W.
Because I changed my location (a feature that is able to be used) they tried to say that was the reason they didn't have my truck available or my mobile pick up option was not able to be used. If I didn't accidentally book longer than anticipated, I wouldn't have had the small access to the truck that I did. Every employee had an attitude, including the lady on the phone. They were rude and not patient checking in. Then they forgot to provide the blankets I paid for and confirmed they would provide so I had to drive back and get them. Then the UHaul had a warning come up about the tires right away and the UHaul broke down 10 miles from the apartment. We were moving out of state. It took well over an hour to get ahold of someone to get a technician to come out. In total, broken down for 2,5 hours and two wheels had to be replaced. This should have been checked before we picked the Uhaul up from the location. Next time, please make sure to thoroughly inspect the UHaul before providing to the new customer.Alyssa S.

The experience using the app to check out the vehicle was TERRIBLE. It was very hard to figure out where to go to do what. and exactly what step I was doing. Still had to go inside to get the key. Kept getting network connection errors even when I had full bars. At one point the app just locked up and never came back. A week before our boxes were supposed to show up we went to the uhaul store to confirm their arrival (since our friends had some issues the prior week) the store confirmed everything was good to go and the drivers would give us a call the day before. The day before the boxes arrival I had received no calls. So I called. I was on hold for an entire hour then hung up on. I called again was on hold for 45 more minutes then transferred 4 times just for someone to tell me that our boxes weren't going to show up the next day. And there is nothing that they could do. So they just weren't going to call me and bother to tell me my boxes weren't going to show up? At this point I went down to the uhaul store again. The manager told me that we could rent a uhual and pack all our stuff and bring it back to the uhual store and load our boxes the following day. We ended up going with this option because we had no other option, we had to move out of our house! I asked for the uhaul we rented to be free and they granted that. They also took off the rent for the first month of the boxes. But basically rather than having two days to pack all our stuff up once, we had to pack all our stuff into a uhaul truck drive it across town unload it all into the parking lot and reload the uboxes all in one afternoon. They were also missing the mattress protecter bag that I had bought ahead of time. It was just one thing after another After our move luckily our belongings showed up at the scheduled time. The driver was awesome timely and very nice. Our boxes were supposed to be picked up the next day. I had to call 4 different times over almost a week and no one could tell me why my boxes weren't being picked up and didn't know when they could make that happen. Finally 5 days late they came and picked the boxes up. For how much uhaul is charging for this service everything goes wrong and you have to call time and time again to confirm that things are working the way that they should. And you get answers that are Lies or no information at all.Aili W.

We had no air conditioning and had to drive 2 300 miles. Mirror on right side would not stay up. Steering was bad. Drivers door did not shut well and could hear air coming through it. Our drop off location was very helpful in Cameron Park CA with Lynn O'DonnellJimmy S.
This was by far the worst experience with UHaul I have ever had. My truck appointment was narrowed from a 2 day window to a 6 hour window after I had already booked it. So I had to cancel my truck rental entirely. We booked 2 days for a specific reason. The containers were smaller than I had been led to believe, we said we had 3 queen beds and you can't fit 3 queen beds, boxes, frames and the rest of the furniture in those boxes. When we needed the containers, the staff on site repeatedly attempted to make us pay for completely new containers. When we showed the receipt, they were visibly annoyed to us. The container numbers changed repeatedly, for reasons completely unknown to me. They moved one of the containers around violently and damaged a DVD collection. I'm not going to bother filing a claim because they will keep you on hold for an hour.TIMOTHY M.

The move in experience itself was poor. The directions for finding the unit should have included a letter identifying the row in which the unit could be found. The map should contain the same alphabetical row lettering as in the storage building itself. I spent a massive amount of time trying to find the unit. The unit was secured against entry, I could not open it, no one answered the phone when I called the desk, I wandered around until I found a call box, someone came and opened the unit, the provided lock did not work, I had to go to the desk to exchange the lock, the swipe access card did not work properly, and I had to return to the desk to address that. In the future, take the customer to the unit rented, make sure the unit opens, and make sure the provided lock works. Everyone was helpful, but more up-front assistance should have been provided. By having a unit(s) for a period of time, I NEVER get discounts on rentals. I used to have a large (about a year) AND a small unit (3 plus years). I must have rented 15-26' trucks and 12 foot trailers. Should be a point system or something that if you rent storage for so long you can apply the points to rentals, Most likely do not have any affinity in the future for U-Haul. U-Haul is a complete joke. 2 weeks before my move in date, I made a reservation online and received a reservation number. When I arrived at the facility I was told the unit I reserved was not available and my reservation was not really a reservation and everything is first come first serve, but what do you know they have a more expensive unit available that is smaller then what i reserved, nice way to bait and switch and to upsell. I had movers meeting me there in 30 minutes, so i had no choice. Completely unethical way to upsell people. Avoid at all costs. I made my reservation online and was told I'd get an entrance code and storage number immediately. I never received it. I called U-Haul and confirmed that my reservation was valid and they said yes. I added my nephew as an approved person to access the storage. When he arrived he was told that there wasn't a reservation. 44 minutes later, I had to do everything online again. VERY frustrating that my nephew couldn't get in quickly as we had planned. Very upset that the reservation number 'wasn't valid' then annoyed that I had to restart all over online. Phones at my storage facility are always forwarded, can't speak to anyone on time, contract was not forwarded to me, can't set up auto pay, half of the staff i speak with in person or on the phone are good, the other half have a bad attitude and are not knowledgeable or helpful. The U-Haul website does not make it clear that reserving a unit online only saves some basic information to your account. Reserving a unit online does not guarantee that they will have that unit available for the dates you selected. My "15 minute" check-in took one hour... and I was at the front of the line. I reserved a unit online on Monday and went in on Wednesday, the date I'd chosen to start my lease, only to be told that the unit had already been rented. What's the point of reserving a unit if the reservation doesn't mean anything? Why even bother having that feature on the website? The location was what I was looking for and the staff were helpful and patient with my frustration so I rented a similar unit upstairs but not having the original unit I signed up for was a big disappointment.
