Ryan was extremely helpful when I picked the trailer up. He made sure all the lights were working and even cleaned the connection for the wiring. Excellent service. Dropping off was great as well. The facility is excellent and very convenient. Renting the storage unit and getting the move out confirmed were not. I am out of state and was trying to rent the unit online or by calling and none of my calls were ever answered and nobody ever called back. Emails were also not answered. Not complaining, just noting: - no one EVER answers the phone at this location. Every time I called I went to the corporate help desk. I had a specific question about the location and they were unable to answer. - storage unit was very clean, and van was as expected - attempted to check in for van via app but it refused to work. - a bit unfair to charge me for a full month storage when I only used two weeks. - told the clerk I was checking out of the storage when I returned the van. He said I was all good, but the next morning when I checked the app for receipts for reimbursement I was not checked out of the unit. Had to do it via the app. - App should allow access to receipts after check out. I was eventually able to locate Communications from UHaul and pull info from there. But prior to checking out I had access. They disappeared when I checked out.PAUL G.

Major mix up that I had schedule to pickup U-Box on 8/21 at 1:00 pm and when I arrived it was not ready. The system did not have it accurately updated. As there was no fork lift operator on site (I see this as a problem), they had to call another employee to show up to get my container ready for pickup. 2 hours later I was able to get my container. The other problem was that when I picked up my container there were NO moving pads provided. Your employees should have noticed this and made sure that they were in the U-Box when I originally picked it up. While I was disappointed with these 2 items, I would use U-Box and this facility in the future.DONALD W.

The facility is well lit and very clean. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for staff. We arrived at the storage facility on Thurs., Aug. 19th at 5am to move items out and realized we needed assistance from the office as my college son had left the lock key at our house which is out of state. We patiently waited for the office to open. When the office opened my husband was informed he would need a locksmith because the associate doesn't cut locks; fine no big deal. However, when we finally had a locksmith come out and open the door for us and husband went back to the office to obtain u-haul truck rental there was only one person working and a line of customers had been formed. Apparently the second employee had showed up to work but left abruptly after realizing she left phone at her friend's car. Our initial goal of moving early was delayed but obtaining the truck rental was a nightmare due to shortage of staff and long lines. More staff is needed.Maria A. | Expérience générale

They answered all of our questions and gave clear instructions for accesding the storage unit. We can't say enough for how easy they made our day of moving! The truck had not been cleaned. There were crumbs all over the floor, some kind of scum smeared across the windshield, and many of the controls and surfaces were a sticky mess. The van also had some bad fuel and could barely reach 60mph. It took 3/4 tank of fuel to go 180 miles. I've had better experiences with this location and UHaul in general, but not worse.Daniel B.
Our check-in experience was amazing thanks to the worker who was very helpful and patient. The facility was very clean and well lit. The only negatives I encountered were trying to get through to the office - I waited for over an hour for one of my calls only to be given the national U-haul representative that said she couldn't answer any questions for me. I was also disappointed that the carts that they leave to help move were never available even though we were the only people there at one point (found out people were taking them and storing them in their vehicles). I did an after-hours return, and it was pretty tight to get to the return location due to the placement of some of the trucks and trailers on the lot. There was a van in the return lane that I had to really tightly squeeze past to get out after dropping my trailer, because the return lane was really not wide enough to hold two vehicles. Especially if the dropped off vehicle had been a moving truck and not just a van.Harrison W.

I wouldn't say the Ames Uhaul location was poor persay. I am not satisfied with uhaul at all. I have already filed a complaint as of last week with the service I received and was to have a call back and still haven't received one. I called the night of the 30th and Spoke with a Georgia that confirmed my pick up location at 5:00am for Spencer Iowa. When I arrive to pick up my uhaul it was not there. I called Uhaul and then was told I had to wait until 7:00am for your scheduling office to open. I then spoke at 7:00am with a women by the name of Dee. This women told me that she herself had called me the night of the 30th and left a voicemail letting me know the pick up location had changed. This women lied to me, I had no missed call and no voicemail on my phone(my voicemail was full so there was no way she could have possibly left me a voicemail). This was very upsetting and I apologize to the women if I came off as rude but I don't appreciate being lied to nor did I appreciate not having my Uhaul in the location for pick up that I had confirmed the night before. I then had to find a family member to pick up the uhaul in Ames, Iowa and drive it to Spencer, Iowa. This added so many more hours on to my trip as well as money for gas. I deserve a refund. I am expecting a call from Uhaul and if I do not receive a call by the end of this week I will be calling to file another complaint. This is disheartening, I have never had so many issues with Uhaul before and this makes me never want to use Uhaul in the future.Mariah W.
1. Keep pick up location obligations. My reservation confirmation stated that I could pick it up in Huxley, but my day before reminder changed it to Ames. 2. Keep other obligations. My reservation confirmation stated that I would receive a call the night before. I did not. 3. While standing at the Ames pick up location, UHaul could not confirm my location, despite location service being enabled for the browser/app. Frustrating. 4. Additional confirmation was required at pick up. UHaul had to actually call someone I know to confirm (something?) so I could finish the pick up process. Frustrating. 5. During the return process I followed all instructions and got it turned in. The app told me I'd get a confirmation email that my turn in was successful. I did not, so I'm glad I screenshotted a confirmation in the app. I will not likely rent from UHaul in the future.Michael D.

I wasn't going to write this but I've been getting daily annoying emails bugging me to write a review so here you have it. We had a unit here for 1,5 years and for the most part things were satisfactory. In the last month we stopped by our unit several times as we prepared for a move. Multiple times during that month the hallway where our unit was located was completely blocked by piles of junk. Many other units where blocked including our own. To make matters worse we had trouble finding carts because many were buried beneath the junk. We told the staff about it and they said they'd notified the person but that they couldn't do anything about it. When my husband stopped by he saw people looting from the piles. It was clear they were looting and we're not the owners because of how they were talking about their finds. The whole process was simple and painless and getting into the building and unit was quick. I wish the halls were marked a little easier to find where you unit is located but we found it quick enough. I will honestly continue to use the storage options as long as need be. I understand that the building needs to be secure but punching your code in 7000 times is really difficult to do without setting off alarms. Also, we pulled into the garage thing and the was absolutely no signage telling you where the button to open the door again was located. I had a really good experience overall. My only issue is that, being a solo hauler, I wasn't always sure that some of my stuff is not going to disappear while I'm moving things to and from storage and can't attend to it. When I got my storage unit the light was broken, and it was completely dark. I reported it to the lady in the office. 3 weeks later nothing was fixed, additionally, the elevator was broken, and I was not able to move my mattress by myself from the third floor. This was the day I returned to Ames, to move into my new apartment. I went to the office again, asking them for help. Both staff members were very rude ... it was Uhauls reposnobility to assist with this matter. So, I ended up sleeping on the floor. I would have found it appropriate that they would offer me to help me move the mattress in my car. I know things like that happen but this is not fair to me, paying full price for a dark unit while the elevator was broke. Waited in line for about an hour to check in. Seemed understaffed for a busy weekend in a college town. There was what appeared to be a homeless persons belongings in our storage unit. Had to wait in line for another half hour to get a different unit. Did not seem like the storage facility was secure as advertised.
