The self-serve system in incredibly flawed. I almost missed my pick-window for what I was renting the truck for. I am a tech-savvy person and this process gave me fits. Even once I spoke to a customer service agent the links where they lead me to on the app and web browser on my phone didn't exist so we had to email and other workarounds to make it work. I have had nothing but bad experiences with this entire experience from u-haul self storage. My unit was broken into after just 3 days, by management, I believe, because there's a lock put back on my door and someone else's stuff was in there and then tonight I go to take an empty picture of the unit, so I can go ahead and end my contract with you all, and my code is not working, and then I log into my app and it says that I have no reservation. How is that possible, unless management decided to get into my unit again, before even bothering to confirm that I have, in fact, vacated my unit? To add insult to injury, I have yet to be reimbursed for ANY of the FOUR payments I made before finally gaining access to a unit, in the first place. Furthermore, contrary to what I was told as I was making the reservation AND as the advertisement had CLEARLY stated: There was NO power in my unit! I did NOT receive a free lock! This location is not staffed therefore customer service is poor. Unfortunately this location has mice/rats that ate thru several boxes and left "droppings" everywhere. U-Haul's upper management team was able to assist me with my issues and fully compensated me for the issues I experienced. This feedback is not about U-Haul, it is specific to this location. The original storage unit had a broken gate that would not allow me to enter that was closest to my home while moving so I had to go to a different location which is very far from my home and proceed to move into that location because of my time frame when I signed up at the new location on Outerloop they did not tell me that the gates were not 24 hours and I was needing help with somebody that worked third shift and controlling help me at night so we made extra trips driving that long distance for no reason and i was charged for the unit even though i never moved into itSarah R. | Online Move In

Someone broke into my storage unit and stole over $300 of stuff and went through everything that was in my unit. I called uhaul many times, went to uhaul and talked to someone face to face ans still nothing was done. Then I got insurance on my unit and the insurance company stop taking my calls and would never call me back when i left a voice mail. Used the phone to get the key, it took much too long to accept the reservation I had done the day before. The back of the truck still had magnets from where I'm guessing a family had moved. Kathy went above and beyond! It was a hot day, she was the only one there and assisting 3 rental customers besides us, handling a return and her computer was not functioning, not to mention she could not check us in to a storage unit as she had no active printer. We started off in Indy Indiana at 10am..we arrived at the Loop facility and it was a hot mess and crazy day. She made arrangements for us to park our U-Haul truck inside the secure gate to keep our belongings safe, she called the Preston Hwy location where we drove our personal vehicle, and they set up our storage unit online- we went back to the Loop location to find Kathy still smiling and running her ass off. It was even hotter by this time. She took us to our storage box, and we got unloaded. She then got the truck checked in for us and we were done. It was 87 degrees, a long day for us, and seeing her smile, her personality and her attitude toward everyone that we saw her be in contact with (about 7 different people) was awesome! What an employee you have there!!! She made the tough and long day and entire rental process a breeze. We are very glad to have met such a great hard working woman with that â€œsouthern hospitalityâ€. The keys to the truck had to be brought to this location. Ashley in customer service was very friendly and professional. Kathy who brought the keys was argumentative and confrontational. It took me an hour and a half to get the keys to the truck. Hold times for customer service was 48 minutes, that's unacceptable when you're at a location waiting. Ashley was really great! What they fail to tell you is you have to go to one office before you go to another storage area that they have so you do extra running back and forth over and over until you go over the mileage allotted for your truck to where you end up paying extra. Arrived at Outer Loop facility around 4:30; no employees were present. Called the phone number listed outside the building, made a reservation with a rep who told me there would be a dolly or flatbed available within my unit to unload the Uhaul. Found out I had to go to the Preston Hwy location to complete reservation. At that location, the employee at the desk proceeded to wait on customers that came in after me first, simply because he was not familiar with storage unit reservations. After leaving there, I dropped off the dolly I had rented at the Uhaul facility where I had bought mattress bags, as they closed at 6 and I was led to believe I would have access to one at the unit. When I got back to the unit, I discovered there was no lock available to secure my unit, although the rep at the Preston Hwy location was supposed to provide one. Upon opening my unit, I discovered there was no equipment to help me unload the truck. Luckily, there was another renter there to help me unload the 1 heavy piece of furniture, and he had an extra lock he sold me. Because of all the extra driving I had to do due to not being able to handle everything at the storage unit location, I ended up having to pay an extra $40 for mileage, as well as the added cost of the extra gas used. This was my first experience with a Uhaul storage unit, and once I get my property back out, it will also be my last.Brian M. | Premières impressions

Could not get into the lock box to get the truck we ordered. Had to drive to another location only to be sent back to the original location for someone else to get the box open but give us a smaller truck. An hour and a half after the original pick up time. We had to make two trips which cost me an additional 100 in addition to the 150 an hour we paid the movers who were waiting for the truck.RICHARD B.

I am very upset at u-haul at the moment, cause I called and reserved a truck and a storage unit. I was able to get the truck with no problem. But the storage unit was awful. First the lady I scheduled the reservation with told me that I would have a 10x12 unit available to move into. But when I got to the storage unit the man that was working told me that he didn't have a 10x12 available the only thing he had was a 10x15 or a 5x10. So he took us down to see the unit the 10x15 witch was not available because it was still filled with trash so he took us to the 5x10 unit which we ended up getting because it was the only one he had but not only was it too small, the panels in our unit are coming off where you can see into the unit next to ours so somebody should look into that. This is the worst mistake ever, and I beg you to choose a different rental truck company. I showed up on time, at a new location 7 miles further away to pick up my truck that I scheduled two weeks out.. This location has no staffing, so you are stuck on your own with the app. The app would not let me check in. After an almost two hour wait on the phone, I attempted to make a new reservation at the same location for the same size truck. Mind you, there was only one 17 foot truck there. The reservation worked. Finally I spoke to a UHAUL agent who explained there was not another truck there to fulfill my original reservation so the app never worked. I went to drive off in the second truck, which I soon discovered the battery was DEAD. The UHAUL agent quickly transferred me to her manager. The manager offered to upgrade me to a larger truck "at no extra charge". The 20 foot and the 17 foot was the same price so this was a mockery to the situation. UHAUL only offered me their 50 dollar guarantee. After almost 3 hours, I finally drove off in a truck with low gas. The final straw was when I found Marijuana in the cup holder of the truck. They clearly do not clean the truck. If you will rent from UHAUL do not chose a location with App Only. You will waste 3 hours of your moving day.Marc B.
It was a good place as long as the local management was who you dealt with and IF they answered their phone. When there was a problem, local management would not answer their phone. When dealing with corporate they tell you they can't do anything but try local management and in the meantime your stuff in your unit is unavailable to you. The corporate will not even compensate or anything else for your inconvenience. They knew of the issue for over 24 hours and didn't have the decency to email clients to let them know of an issue and that it was being looked into. When we moved, we rented our unit. After moving in we were informed of a special for new renters, but because we set up our rental online so we were prepared when we got there, we were not eligible (it was a new rental within their time frame). Their solution was to rent a second unit to get the deal. I feel this is a shady company who tries to find ways not to honor their own specials and who refuse to treat customers as if they are the reason they are in business. Arrived to pick up my truck and it was parked in a way that made it impossible to get out with the other trucks next to it and my truck sandwiched between them and a pole and a ditch. The truck had all sorts of mechanical issues, didn't have the dolly I paid for. Returned the truck and was charged twice what I had already paid and when I looked at my bill online, the guy has added a ton of stuff I didn't get or use and it's over a month later and he's still trying to bill my card almost $200. I already paid $85 and should have gotten some of that back. When I arrived At the U-Haul facility it was 4:45 P.M. There was a customer there that the clerk was taken care of once that customer was done conducting their business the Clerk said to me â€œsorry I'm closedâ€ as he is walking towards the door. I Said to him I have a reservation already I'm just here to pick up the truck he said â€œ I understand that but I'm closedâ€. Then he asked me Was I here for the 26 ft. truck. I Told him yes, then he said I have it already for you but I am closed. Then, I had to sit there for an hour and a half trying to go online and get in touch with customer service to figure out how to get the 24 seven app so that I could get the keys out of the lock box.When I finally did Retrieve the keys in the gas needle was on E (Empty). This gentleman needs to learn how to deal with the public. And have class is on customer service. When he said that he had the truck ready for me, obviously that was not the case because if he had the truck ready he would have at least Made sure that there was some gas in the truck. Listen. I dont want to be rude. The transaction was smooth, the attendant was great but the store smelled like sh!t. Like real life human sh!t. It bothered me. I was sent there 20 miles (30 minutes) out of my way since the location where I reserved my unit didn't have one. The attendant was rude and didn't believe me when I was told I should receive the $50 guarantee. I should have been able to drop off unit where I originally ordered and he said no. I had to drive 40 extra miles and it took an hour longer. I should not have to pay for the extra miles or extra time.Merrilee G.
