EMERSON ZHello U Haul Customer Support, I’m writing to file a formal complaint and request a significant reimbursement regarding my first U Haul rental experience under Reservation/Order #13848076. Reservation details • Reservation/Order #: 13848076 • Original pick up location: Postal Annex Bonita Chula Vista, 750 Otay Lakes Rd, Chula Vista, CA 91910 • Scheduled pick up: Friday, January 9, 2026 at 5:00 PM • Truck: 10’ Truck • Drop off location: U Haul of City Heights, 4311 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, CA 92105 • Drop off date: Saturday, January 10, 2026 What happened 1. Last minute pick up change after I already arrived I intentionally reserved a truck at the Otay Lakes Rd location because it was convenient and I knew I would be driving a box truck. I paid for an Uber to arrive on time and I had three people waiting at my loading site with limited availability. When I arrived at the original location, I was told the truck was having mechanical issues and that I had to go to a different location across Chula Vista. I received the “order updated” notice only as I was walking in the door after already paying for transportation. This lack of notice caused unnecessary delay and made the entire moving process significantly more stressful. The update directed me to: U Haul Moving & Storage of Chula Vista, 99 N 4th Ave, Chula Vista, CA 91910 (guaranteed for 5:30 PM). 2. Added out of pocket transportation costs and delays Because of the sudden location change, I had to pay for additional transportation to the alternate site. This cost me extra money and time and created avoidable delays while my helpers waited. 3. Poor customer service at the new location One employee was kind and professional, and another younger employee was willing to assist. However, a third employee (wearing glasses) took over without greeting or acknowledging me, then started helping another customer while I was standing at the counter in the middle of my transaction, despite other stations being available and another employee offering to assist. When I asked why my transaction was being paused and why I was being skipped, he told me to “RELAX” and said the other person “has been here before me.” He continued answering questions in short, dismissive ways. This was unprofessional and made an already frustrating situation worse. 4. Billing confusion and equipment issues I reserved the $19.99 rate plus mileage. During checkout, I was quoted around $170 without a clear explanation or itemized breakdown. I also requested moving blankets and a utility dolly, but I was given a different light duty dolly and told the utility dollies were out. I’m concerned I may have been charged for equipment I did not receive, and I was not properly informed about pricing. Requested resolution Given the failures on the service side (truck unavailable at my confirmed location with minimal notice, added transportation costs, delays, poor customer service, and billing/equipment issues), I am requesting a significant reimbursement for the overall rental experience—not just the added Uber cost. Specifically, I am requesting: 1. A full refund (or near full refund) of the rental charges and fees associated with this reservation (including equipment charges and any other service fees), due to the overall service failure. 2. A complete itemized receipt explaining all charges (including why the total increased to around $170). 3. Review and refund of any equipment charges for items that were unavailable or substituted (utility dolly vs light duty dolly, and any blankets issues). Regards, Miguel Gamiño

Extended HJust to get the uhaul took too long and the dolly I reserved was not even available and made things so much harder to move my stuff, we would have been done faster if I would have had the dolly i reserved so not happy about that at all.

EDUARDO RI have used U-Haul on many occasions though out the years, but I have never had an experience as such. Upon arrival to the location I booked the u-haul truck at, I was informed they do not carry the size truck I reserved. I then was informed to go to a completely different location that was much further out from the original location. Upon my arrival to the second u-haul location, I was told there was no reservation on file. I explained my situation and was told the truck would not be available until an hour after the time I previously reserved it for online. This was a huge inconvenience for me on moving day. I also requested movers, so I had movers arriving with no moving truck! This was the worst experience and I am highly disappointed in the company.
JONATAN MFor now rating this as poor. I am being billed for fuel when I returned the vehicle with more fuel. Please resolve. I like the staff at this location but now I have to invest my time to try to resolve this discrepancy.

HUGO SAlways issues here last visit was not able to use a uhaul gift certificate. Please train your employees or bring in a manager that's aware of standard operating procedure for a basic service...this place is so mickey mouse

RENE A | Premières impressionsI am 6’3” and was incredibly disappointed to see that the seats in the truck could not be adjusted for more leg room. Also, the AC didn’t work and the visor was broken do it would dip down blocking the top half of the windshield. 2 stars instead of 1 only because the workers got me in and out of there quickly and with good attitudes. Again, this rating is low because U-HAUL did not properly maintain the truck, the check-in people were great.
COLIN GUnit felt like it was falling apart. Door would not close, had to slam shut to register it was closed. Wind came through it, concerned it might not be well closed. I was told unit had half tank as I was leaving location bell sound and car showed zero gas. Had to quickly stop to put gas in it. Staff is friendly, manager was nice. When I returned vehicle cost was adjusted because I drove fewer miles than I thought and only used it for about 90 minutes. Recommend people to reserve a vehicle in advance to get what you need instead of what is available (you will save per mile fees if you only need a pickup truck or van). Car was relatively clean when received but felt like it was falling apart nearly 140,000 miles on it.
ALLAN HExperience was great; except that I ordered 10 moving blankets online to be included with my rental, however, when I showed up to pick up the truck, I was told this particular location didn’t rent them. I would’ve rented from a different location if i would’ve known it here weren’t any blankets. Should’ve indicated it online when I was scheduling the rental. Customer service at this loacatiob was great :).

ANDREW WWhen picking up my reserved truck, the person handing over the key did not walk through anything with me and handed me the key and said it’s ready. when I got into the truck the gas was on empty, but they had told me that there was gas in there. then once arriving to my location for packing up, I couldn’t lock up the truck from the back as the lock was cut from a previous rental so my items cannot have been secured. Also inside the truck there was no blankets or bungees that could have been used and the hanging container where they would have been stored was unzipped and empty. When I returned the truck I left it with no gas as that is how it was received, and I did indicate in my check out via my app that there was no gas and that the lock was cut. I rented this U-Haul for my children’s marching band and it was just an unfortunate experience. We will be doing more events with the School band and I will be looking at other truck rental companies.
RICHARD GGiven wrong location for pick up. Placed order for pick up near me and was told the day before I’d have to drive 20 min to pick it up. It was too late to make other arrangements. Get to the place they tell us, it is closed for another half an hour. Tried to get a hold of uhaul for 30 min with no avail. Finally around 8 we get a call from a complete different location asking if we’re going to be there to pick up the truck .. what? We had to drive to another location to pick up the truck, which ate in to our rental time and we were not offered a later return. The furniture savers I ordered were not provided. Also found marijuana stems and blunt wrappers in the door of the truck. What a nightmare experience I would rather carry my stuff next time.

ALMA GAlthough on the paper it showed the gas was at a certain level when I got into the car it wasn’t. I was in a hurry so I just took a picture and did what I needed to do. When I got back I took another picture showing that I put gas to the amount that I got it in and reported the situation the the attendant. He said he would take note of it and sent me on my way but when I checked the receipt I was charged for the gas. It seemed like he didn’t even take. One of it and pretty much disregarded what I told him.

ERNESTINA LThere was no dolly which I paid for and the A/C in the truck did not work. So a hard day was made even more difficult sweltering through a hot day. This is the second time I have rented a truck from U-haul in a month and both times the service has been less than a modest nice let alone stellar.

DIANE PI have rented and had hitches installed here for at least 30 years and have always been given polite and attentive service. While I did rate the truck as clean, that was a bit of a gift. It was not excellent exterior, windshield quite dirty and body was mud splattered. Not terrible but enough that I wish it had been power washer off. Interior was fine. The truck ran and drove just fine.

YERALDIN AThe reservation, and pick up went perfectly smooth. They had the trailer at the location that I requested. The lady at the front counter hooked the trailer up to my truck for me and gave me the proper instructions on how to use the trailer. The drop off location in Sacramento was outstanding. They unhooked the trailer and sent me on my way within a matter of seconds. I will definitely recommend U-Haul again.

PEARL DPreferred location for getting equipment from. Sometimes it can get a little crowded with a single entry and exit.
WILLIAM AThe truck was full of ants. I discovered while I was driving and getting bitten that the glove box was not cleaned. The truck had issues downshifting. when slowing down it would jerk and come almost to a complete stop and make a really bad noise.
Christina AIt would be helpful to include a dolly with the truck rental instead of being subjected to availability. It was really hard to move heavy boxes without a dolly.
