Very confusing where to park the truck. There are no signs on where to park the truck, nor a parking lot that is clearly labeled. Had to park the truck on the side of the road, and only knew I could park the truck there after seeing someone else park their truck there. Customers would appreciate some clear signage on where to leave trucks.Jake L.
I used online check in and checkout which was excellent. I purchased a few items inside but they didn't have any blankets to rent. I had to drive to another location for those. The truck was in very poor condition and the beginning location I went to was only a few miles away and the truck died. We sat and waited for 3 hours and had to call uhaul to explain a jump wasn't going to fix the issue. When the service guy finally arrived he didn't have the correct tools to fix the issue so we had to drive down the street and meet him at Menards so he could pick up the right tool and complete the repairs.Chris F.
Not make truck return so difficult especially for seniors who don't know how to do all that stuff required using a cell phone. That was frustrating and I never did figure it out even after trying for 20 minutes. Other than that the experience was great!Michelle N.

By far the worst experience EVER! Horrible customer service, nobody ever knows what's going on, Tyler the GM is rude and can't pretend to care about anything. The facility is wet and filled with vermin, I had rat droppings everywhere. Please let me touch on the fact half of my stuff is missing out of my unit, and I have someone else's. I closed my unit in April of 2021, was charged every month there after until they auctioned my empty unit and tried to charge me with a 2 000 bill. There are so many issues. The truck had not been returned. We had to wait for the truck. The associate was helpful but we should have been notified that the truck was not returned prior to us getting to uhaul. The two gentlemen in front were very nice and helpful. When the truck was returned, we were charged a higher amount for milage rate used then the actual amount. Plus overcharged in the per mile rate. Staff was kinda rude. Equipment was old, rusty and seemed I maintained. When I got my car loaded, one of the tires on the trailer was completely flat. Half of the running lights didn't work and clearly there's other wiring issues because as I was driving, my truck would alert me there were issues with the lights on the trailer. The ratchets for the wheel straps are garbage. They WILL loosen up on you as you drive. I tightened them 3 times over a 50 mile drive. I've had this exact trailer before, from this location, and road side service had to come fix it the day I picked it up. Roadside guy was pissed that this trailer was still even on the road. I don't recommend renting a car trailer from this location.Jason K.

Truck was given to me with gas tank empty. Tyler Dewis asked to bring back truck at 1/4 fuel tank in exchange for gas credit. I brought back at 1/4 full (10 gallons at 3,38 $9/gal=33,89 $), but was only given 20 $in credit. This is a total scam!!!Yuriy M.

The customer service agent named Crystal was by faaaaaarrrr the worst customer service agent I've ever spoken with. She called my wife for verification and was extremely rude to her also. Her attitude has made me not want to ever order from U-Haul again. I believe she needs to be fired immediately for the sake of U-Haul as I've always used you guys and never had an issue. Her being a jerk to myself, my wife and my mom is a triple play on the absolute worst customer serviceThomas C.

I originally ordered the truck to be picked up at the Rolling Meadows IL location which is only a couple miles from my house. On Friday (day before pickup) I get a call saying I had to go to the Hoffman Estates location which is 10 miles away from my house. So, then, the day after I dropped off the truck in the Island Lake location I was charged for 10 extra miles which in fact was my drive from the pickup location to my home. I realize it was a minimal charge but I don't feel I should have been penalized because YOU didn't have the size I wanted at the location I wanted.CANDACE M.
I called Saturday morning to say I was running late That was the point, the man working there, I forgot his name, should of told me the truck has not been returned And he would call me when it was returned. Well he did NOT tell me It was an 11 mile trip to the uhaul place. And an 11 mile trip back to the house . That is 22 miles Which it is what it is BUT I had to do it twice! 22 extra miles for NOTHING!! As you know, during moves, many people are involved And my daughter came from Indiana and was meeting me in Chicago ridge. Since I didn't get the call that the uhaul wasn't there, she came, Thinking the timing would work out She put an extra 80 miles on her own car, to come to palatine to help because now sense sitting in Chicago ridge Plus ALL the time wasted because near 7 hours later, the truck was ready for pick up. Uhaul needs to call the customer BEFORE to let them NOT waste the trip, if the uhaul hasn't been returned from previous customer. That call should of been made BEFORE I called to say I was running late. And TWO The same man at this location, told me I had to use my credit card otherwise I couldn't leave with the truck I told him I have the cash now and want to pay He said no and that it wouldn't go on my card and I will pay cash when I return the truck Well guess what? The charge was put on my card I know we have bad days I know this well Yet the customer service was terrible and I want a full refund I know it's not uhaul's fault if customers don't return the trucks on time Yet so much of my time and my families time was wasted. Including all the extra miles added on our own cars. That's car usage and gas You all add a ton of extra dimes for your services Which are vital YET in this case A WHOLE day wasted because I didn't get a simple call at the beginning and I have a charge on my card, that I didn't want Since I had the cash The drop off place was WONDERFUL! As one who is very comouter savvy and designs/develops websites, interactive PDF forms, builds/uodates desktop and laptop computers, and more, all I can say is that the U-Haul phone app sucks and leaves much to be desired. Long story short without listing all the bugs in addition to the pathetic 0form layout and funtionality, I virtually spent over two hours , left and returned to try again in order to complete the process to return my vehicle during the late evening well after the store was closed. Needless to say this was inexcusable and a total waste of my time. Looks to be just another way to piss off a customer and make an easy 20 $at the customer's expense. Ironically, while I was there, another customer returned his vehicle, put his keys inside the drop box, and stated he preferred to deal with tbe 20 $processing fee the following morning rather than waste time attempting to compete the return on their mobile phone app. What can I say other than another pissed off customer. Whoever in corporate dreamed up this return policy since I last rented a U-Haul truck back in August 2020 ought to be choked! What took me no more than 5 minutes to return a U-Haul truck after hours back in August 2020 now took me over 2 hours contingent on a shitty phone app designed to easily garner an additional 20 bucks by penalizing the cuatomer unable to use it. What a f__king joke! Rest assured, I will post and alert others online and by word of mouth whenever regarding this subject matter.Martin P.

Customer service was terrible, gentleman insisted that I finish my reservation online he did not want to help. On the way out I said thank you and he just walk pass me and did not say anythingOsama F.
There was nothing wrong with the location and the people were kind, but I don't feel as if U-Haul properly prepared us for the drive. we were not notified that when driving the transmission will automatically engine break which caused some stress. Our truck also had a lot of trouble maintain speeds and starting. while driving we hit a patch of highway we're our truck would only go a max speed of 20mph and the automatic transition would not shift up gear. We were told by u-Haul representatives that our truck should have no problem hauling what we have however it clearly did. After this experience I would not recommend U-Haul for moving to anyone because it was really awful. We were not able to stick to our planned route due to truck failures, costing us money for hotel cancelations and emergency bookings because of truck failure. We ended up having to stop and have the truck looked at by two different mechanics from U-Haul that told us because there was no warning lights on our dash they really couldn't do much. Our Second mechanic was able to add oil to the engine, but that is the only service we received. we also had a problem with carrying out our reservation that made things very frustrating. I had booked my reservation about a month out from the time I needed it and had talk to you several representatives clarifying the availability to getting my truck. four days before I was supposed to pick up my truck a representative called me and told me that there were no trucks available in my area and the closest place I could go to pick one up would be in Minnesota opposed to the location I requested in Illinois. This was a large problem for me because it put a lot of stress on me as I did not have time to plan accordingly to not having a truck. I called u-Haul back and had to wait on the phone for a total of two hours and 30 minutes before finally speaking to another truck advisor who was able to tell me that there were in fact trucks in my area and then I was not gonna be without a truck. this made the initial call very frustrating because I should not have had to go through the stress of being told I was not having a truck for days before my move when they're clearly were trucks available. U-Haul made my move very stressful and frustrating when it shouldn't have been.Kevin K.

1. I rented a cargo van. There was a very loud rattling on the passenger side that needs to be repaired. Otherwise, the vehicle was fine. 2. When I picked the van up I was told that the gas tank was 7/8th full and that I should return it that way to avoid charges. In reality, the gas gauge was at the 5/8ths mark which is 1/4 tank short. I did fill gas to the full mark before returning the van. The service rep who closed me out gave a 45 $credit which was very fair. I appreciated his willingness to do that.James Y.

The staff at this location was very helpful- they moved our storage unit because it was inaccessible for our moving truck. My only recommendation is that you don't make any reservations online- even with giving them the confirmation number they were unable to find my reservation.
