Had to wait over 30 minutes in line to get my uhaul I reserved in advance. Then when I returned the uhaul I got haggled about the level of gas I returned the vehicle at. I was given the vehicle at "1/4" of a tank which was really a little shy of the 1/4 indicator and I brought it back just shy of the 1/4 mark but they put it down as 1/8 and charged me the 30$ service fee and $10 in fuel charge. Changed a 50$ move into 100$ move.

I had a very poor experience with uhaul, which is unfortunate because my previous experiences have always been positive. After making an online reservation I arrived to pick up my truck at the Navy Yard location in dC. They did not have a truck available for me, so I had to get a truck an hour later than requested from a location 25 minutes away. This meant I had to add more miles for my trip and pay for increased gas usage. If uhaul is concerned about their customer's experience I hope to receive an call or email with a way to rectify the increased cost to me solely due to the lack of preparedness by uhaul.

Renovate for starters! How dare you make customers walk a block away from the rental office to retrieve their trucks & equipment! Ridiculous!!! Then the truck had the TPMS light on..why? Even I know how to air up tires..you got 5 employees looking at their cell phones and listening to music like a block party but no one can make sure each rental is properly serviced before being given to a customer? I know 1 of those boys was driving it because the radio blasted when I turned it on. Tell him next time pay attention to the dashboard and not the radio station!

Move with a friend if possible. The truck has big rearview mirrors, but having a buddy to crane their head out the passenger side window for you is tremendously helpful when switching lanes as your blindspots are huge and you are unable to look over your shoulder like in a traditional car before lane changes.

We want to thank the entire team at the UHual facility at 2215 5th St NE, Wash , DC 20002. They upgraded my pickup truck to a covered minivan, 1 hour prior to pick up - it was pouring rain, impossible to tackle the short move on a pick up truck! The front staff were efficient, professional and took care of our order quickly. The gentleman in the pick up area greeted us and we were on the road on a BRAND new minivan! The check out went as smooth. The front ladies assured that I was reimbursed for the 3 boxes that I bought but forgot to take with me earlier! One of the ladies had a badge that said "OWNER", the other young lady explained it as a form a Stock bounce for the UHaul employees. l hope these ladies are highly rewarded, because the OWNER lady was passionate and was on the phone to make sure her regular customer (Mr. Manso) was satisfied with the truck! Keep up the great work.

I have used this location before and was not exactly pleased with the customer service, however I decided to give it another try and my most recent visit was the worst. To start, there was an issue with the system and GPS on the website and I could not access the truck. So I was not able to pick up my (8/25/17) 11:30pm reservation until (8/26/17) 1:30am. Upon picking up the truck, any change or view of the reservation on the website showed a message saying the reservation had been cancelled, or there was some issue and to call customer service. I call customer service numerous times to extend the time for the drop off (due to the lateness of our pickup, and our work schedules, we were forced to keep the truck through the weekend and pay triple what we had intended ) and I had at least three different representatives tell me that my reservation had been cancelled and they weren't sure what else to do. I insisted several times that I had the truck in my possession, so the idea that the reservation was cancelled did not make sense. I assume this issue was due to the original problems when trying to pick up the truck. Needless to say this was a very stressful and unpleasant encounter with this location and we will be going elsewhere from now on.

The person who helped us get our vehicle the second time due to the first one having a flat tire showed poor customer service and was looking at his phone while talking to us. When someone requests the same return location as their pickup, they should not be charged extra when that return location is not available if they were not informed of this in advance. There should at least be a notice sent so that other arrangements can be made, such as choosing a different location for pickup. I was extremely disappointed with the way my reservation was managed, especially since I reserved it fairly far in advance.

The truck was given to me at less than a quarter tank of gas for a two-day out-of-state move, which I did not appreciate. (and this amount was actually overestimated, but I didn't have time to argue). Truck mirrors were finicky and I had to ask for the pads I reserved.

I didn't request my rental pick up here - I requested it at a site I could walk to. UHaul changed the pick up, even though the requested location had many same size vehicles on their lots. This cost me additional $$$ to Uber to the further site. I called the rental 800# the day before and they explained the previous renter had dropped the truck I was assigned at this location instead of my requested site on K street. NOT MY FAULT - reassign a new truck or have someone move there. In addition, the UHaul App for un-assisted pick up wouldn't work. The driver picture would not upload. I had to go inside and stand in line for 30 min's. Because I started the pick up online, it froze the system and caused further delays. Over all a totally poor experience. However, this locations staff were very courteous and professional. It was UHaul Corp that screwed up

I have never been more offended than by the service from this uHaul location. The workers failed to add the dolly and furniture pads to the truck when I picked it up. After I dispatched a friend to go pick up the items--I had movers arriving imminently--the store manager was extremely rude to him. He snapped at my friend for showing up near closing time, implied he was a liar, and then FINALLY gave him the equipment I already paid for. This is insane, not even an apology for not doing their job in the first place. Because of this location's carelessness, my move took longer and my furniture got scratched. I would never recommend them to anyone.

After I reserved the truck and car dolly in the morning I haven't heard from anyone for 2 hours. Called the location to find out that a dolly is scheduled to be returned by 7pm of that day. After I Called the national scheduling department Michelle contacting the person who had reserved the dolly earlier and found out that the guy cancelled. Then she contacted the location to reserve the dolly for me. Seems to me this should have been done by someone at the location earlier, not after calls from me and the national scheduling department The guy in the equipment area was rude, annoyed, and impatient, walking away as I was asking questions about the truck, yelling back answers. He needs more training in customer service. After I drove away and got to the place to pick up the car I found out that one of the straps on the car dolly was badly tangled. Took me and a stranger a good half an hour to pull the strap out of the ratchet. The equipment department needs to do a better job to ensure the equipment is ready to be used.

I arrived at the location at 7:30am and the Uhaul representative behind the counter was on her cell phone. She walked into the back room and did not return for 15 minutes. Then, when we were being helped a Uhal employee tested the truck that we had reserved weeks in advance and it did not start. They then tried to get me to rent a truck that was double the size and said that they had no other options available. The attendant Shanell told me to go to a Uhaul location across the city, would not call to confirm that they had the 15 foot truck, and gave me the number for the location and caid ‘call them yourself’. She was very rude, extremely unhelpful, and I would like to formally complain about the service that I received. I understand that it was early in the morning, but she was very unprofessional and would not answer my questions or help us at all. So we had to book a taxi, go to another location, get that Uhaul, and start our move over 1 hour later than anticipated. We had to contact the moving company, reschedule our appointment, and drive more miles than we initially intended.

To whom it may concern, As I stated when I completed the return self check out, I'd like to dispute the additional charges. As I mentioned, when I returned to the drop off location prior to my return time at 8pm after hours, there were no lots available to park and it was not clear to me where or how far away I was authorized to park. It was only till a stranger, possibly an employee, informed me that I could park in the back of the lot by the smart cars that I was able to park. By the time I was told this and went through the return procedures, it was past my return time. It isn't my fault that there were no parking spots and there were no instructions given on where I could park. Please let me know if these charges will be dropped and I can be issued a refund or otherwise, who I can call to speak to about this. I look forward to a prompt response. Best, Joanna Anyanwu

After receiving confirmation that my truck would be available at 11:00 a.m. at a different location than I scheduled it, I arrived at 11:15 only to have the attendant tell me that someone lost the keys and that there was no truck available. The next available truck would be at the original location 3 1/2 hours after my original reservation. It was also not available to drop off at the location where I scheduled to drop it off, which meant I had to pay extra money and spend more time returning a truck that I had to jump through hoops to get. I would never recommend U-Haul to anybody looking to rent a moving truck.

I ordered one size truck because the size I wanted was not available, but it became available when i went to pick it up. However, I was given a different truck than the one described on my contract, and didnt realize it until I drove off the lot. Luckily, my customer representative took care of the issue, but there was a breakdown in communications between the front office and the truck pick-up team that could have cost me a lot of money.

The gate was locked when I arrived, and there was no attendant around. There was a tire air pump on and running laying on the sidewalk, presumably meaning someone was nearby, but they never surfaced. There was one customer in front of me at the locked gate dealing with the same issue. Somehow, she was able to get the gate opened, after being on hold with 1800gouhaul. After I parked the truck inside, it was not easy or obvious to get out back out of the locked gate. Luckily, there were other customers around. I would not have wanted to be locked in there by myself at nighttime. Again, disappointed with my experience.

Trailer brakelight was not available for purchase. It throws off the whole day. UHaul should either have a stocked store or they should tell the renter they are missing helpful gear. I had a terrible experience when I rented a 20 foot truck they mistakenly gave me someone elses truck that was already reserved to another person. That was not my problem the problem is the lack of communication between this location and dispatch. I was told by this location "just wait until dispatch calls you for another truck". I waited well over and hour with no call so I called dispatch directly and got me another truck. All they can to do is call dispatch for me to come up with a solution. When I asked them why didnt they simply call dispatch they said they can never get through with the number they have? Also the truck I was given was old and one of the headlights was not working so I can to request another. Lastly I asked them to cancel my auto transporter that I would not need anymore and refund my money and to date that hasnt happened.

The manager at this Store is less than helpful. One of the stores associates asked a simple question of his manager to watch the manager replied you know how to do that . Icalled multiple times throughout sure that they had everything in the inventory that I would need to except the trailer and I even did the express checkout service online. When I got there they didn't have the hitch and ball set up that I needed for my vehicle. One of the employees instead had to pull a used hitch from another piece of equipment to which she asked me to pay him for under the table. I agreed to do so otherwise I wasn't going to be able to leave the same day that I needed the U-Haul trailer. I appreciated the fact that the associate was a problem solver but the whole operation seems prime for engagement by corporate to ensure that they uphold the standards.

The only problem I had was that I had rented a dolly but the guy who gave us the truck forgot to gave us the dolly. We had to waste time and miles to go back to the location to get the dolly. I would like for the people that deliver the equipment to be more careful and actually deliver the entire equipment. But besides this I didn't have to wait in line and check-in was easy. The only problem is that I had already checked in online and we had to go through the same questions at the desk, which slowed the process down. But besides that the customer service was good and the process went by smoothly.

When I called U-Haul, customer service couldn't figure out how to resolve the issue and forwarded me to a "manager". The manager then tried to forward me back to customer service! I told the manager I was just on the phone with customer service, and the manager said someone would "call me back". Needless to say I never got a call back. The shady way with which multiple staff has handled this issue has left me feeling as though I was robbed the fee for an extra day, and that I'll never see that money again despite being in full compliance with my contract.

this comment is for my experience calling the toll free number to schedule a Haul rental. It has to be the worst business process model I have dealt with. Three phone calls, all of them over an hour on hold, multiple transfers, staff telling me that one-way rental pre-pay is not a product they sell, even though I had bought it. And, they even told me their supervisor said the same thing. I was even transferred to your finance department by mistake. Some one in scheduling at the 1-800 number changed my pick up time from 8 AM to 11 AM without even notifying me.Train your staff, review your business process model, it stinks. Has nothing to do with the drop off or pick up location but rather the 1-800 clowns. Where is your review area for that?

I actually reserved a ruck (via the U-Haul website) to be picked up at the Capitol Heights location because I also had a storage unit at the location that I would be clearing out. I was told the day before that I would have to go out of my way to another location to pic up the truck that I ordered because the truck inventory listed on the website was inaccurate. I sent in a separate note to customer service but I just wanted to say that Anthony (Tony) Tillery really saved the day for me and my boyfriend. A small metal washer fell out of my bed when transporting it to our new apartment. My sister had seen it in the U-Haul truck we rented but didn't know it belonged to my bed until we had already returned the truck. We could not have put my bed together without it and after two days of moving, having a bed to sleep in was a huge relief. We thought the metal washer was lost forever until Tony, without being asked, searched through multiple trash cans to find it for us. He searched through the trash and found the metal washer at the bottom of the second can and saved our entire day. I hope he can be recognized for his excellent service, polite professionalism, and kindness--he deserves that and much more.

Getting the truck was the slowest act known to man. I had a 9 -1 PM reservation. I got there at 8:45 and got the truck at 9:30 AM. Was told the truck needed to be back by 1 PM or risk some fee. The trailer provided was beat up with holes covered with foil tape. I had to cover them up with more tape to keep water from entering into the trailer. That said, I traveled 3,000 miles without any problems so I can't really complain. Inside of the trailer was also a bit dusty/dirty. We rented a storage unit and truck for our move. It felt like a real bait and switch scenario. I talked to someone on the phone about the unit and she *forgot* to mention that the storage unit was up above only accessible by staircase which would absolutely not worked with our bed and heavy dresser. Also she said there were no additional fees- when I get there there are like 5 fees including a really expensive lock we had to buy. Meaning we came all the way out there under the impression that we knew what we were getting and it was actually much much more. And they know that they have power over you because they just say 'this is how it is, do you want it or not?' Knowing well that you can't change at that point. I didn't give zero stars because there was one young guy that works there with long dreads that was very friendly and helpful. Otherwise it's a racket, and I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

My scheduled pick up was set at a time before they opened, so when I ran into technical difficulties no one was around to help me. The manager answered the contact number, but couldn't tell me how to access the keys in the lockbox other than to wait until the store opened. However, even with the help of personnel at the store, it took quite some time before anyone could figure out to get into the lockbox to retrieve my keys. All in all, the employees were genuinely concerned with my problem and were friendly, but didn't seem to be familiar enough with the system to know how to help me.

I had a terrible u-haul scheduling experience. I reserved a truck for 24-hrs at the blasensburg D.C. Location. I received an email confirmation for my reservation. Hours later I received a text confirmation that my truck will need to be picked up at the 5th st location. This was the first problem but I called the bladensburg location and they confirmed my 24-hr reservation was set at 5th st. Location. When I get to 5th st., they inform me that the reservation is good for only 17 hrs. This caused me massive inconvenience. It appears there needs to be a better scheduling system and the other stores need to communicate with each other to avoid these kind of problems in the future.

I didn't realize that the tires were not in the condition for the kind of wet snowy conditions. The were quite worn. I should have checked at the rental location and would have felt better about the experience had the tires been better. Everything else was very good.

There aren't instructions for 24-Hour drop off so we were a little in the dark about what to do once we got there. More instructions at the locations would be helpful. I was also overcharged for miles I did not take but that was resolved. If I had not disputed it though I would have been overcharged almost $40. That part was unacceptable.

Great experience and quick check out. Only issues were w/ equipment. No furniture pads were provided but ordered. Appliance dolly had wrong serial number which made return a bit of an issues.

Let them know where to park the truck when loading and unloading if the station loading area is crowded. Be sure them not to park on the sidewalk and show them where the sidewalk begins and ends. D.C. Traffic will issue tickets.

The service in DC was fine but the agreed upon drop off location Norwalk CT (documented in the contract) was not honored. I had to drop off the trailer in Bridgeport CT. I was also given the run around, by Norwalk, Corporate (Arizona) and DC. When trying to find where the rental could be dropped off I was hung up on, put on hold then disconnected. Customer service was horrendous. Norwalk CT was especially rude and unwilling to accept Auto Transport Trailer. The customer service and communication was extremely poor.

I went to another location on Bladensburg road. A woman by the name of BRITTNEY was very unfriendly and down right nasty.. SHE DOESNT LIKE HER JOB AND NEEDS TO QUIT.. I was NOT informed that I could not use my out of state ID WHEN I CALLED THat I have used at THAT location a few months ago.. She was nasty AND NOT WILLING TO HELP THE CUSTOMERS AT ALL. I then went to the 5th st location. Where I was able to use that same ID and debit card I have used several times with uhaul...She does not need to be in customer service.. THANKS GOD FOR YOUR 5th st location. THEY were friendly quick and nice.. THANKS GUYS FOR YOUR GREAT SERVICE...

The staff was amazing. The truck on the other hand needed new wind shield wipers and as soon as you slow down from 50 mph to around 30 mph it felt as if the truck slammed on the breaks even though your foot is not on any pedals. heat and radio was god. The truck probably needs SERIOUS maintenance. but I give it above average because the staff were so great

Staff is lazy! I turned in my vehicle at 0800 on a Saturday and was never sent a confirmation email of its return. Monday at 0930, the manager is calling me to return the truck and I had been billed for two extra days. I explain that it was returned Saturday morning and then he goes out to check the lot! He found it and claims that it was a glitch in the system and proceeds to charge me for an extra day, I protested and told him of the picture taken of the milage, gas tank an time stamp of the photo. After 5 minutes he conceded that there was a glitch in the system and an e-receipt appeared in my e-mail. Same thing happened before in October but I didn't catch it until my bank statement revealed an extra day usage. Because of these issues, I will NOT use the 5th St. U-Haul, Washington DC 20002 for my next rental.lo
