I was told both by telephone (customer service) and in person (at pick-up) that I could return my truck at another location (Lincoln Park). The telephone customer service person said they were putting a note on the rental. When I tried to drop the truck at Lincoln Park, they said they would not accept it without charging me for a wrong location dropoff. Which is exactly NOT what I was told. I had to drive a 1/2 hour in traffic to another location. Big FAIL Uhaul!

No control of yours : Getting into this location is kind of difficult to maneuver. ?? If you are heading east on Fullerton ( during rush hours ) it will take a minute to get in. Employees were friendly but I thought customers need this heads up.

I rent always there and I called to tell them I had a flat on the auto transporter and they told me to call the road assistance and they didn't even call me back to fix the flat . My husband fix the flat waiting for the road assistance to call or come to fix the flat .

I booked my uhaul over a month in advance. Two days prior I received a voicemail that my location was moved. The chosen location was completely out of the way. I called to try and change it and was berated by a customer service agent that there were no trucks available before I'd even finished my first sentence or where I was located. After speaking to a manager I did learn that was my only option...how with 20 locations is there one that I can pick up a truck from??? On the morning of my pick up I went to the location at my pick up time, there was a line 40 people deep and I waited over an hour to get my truck. Knowing it is the end of the month you'd think they'd have more agents available to help OR tell customers to complete online. When I tried to complete online and even called while waiting in line I was told I'd have to wait because I didn't pre-pay. Clearly the system in place does not work and can be bettered. I was very disappointed by that experience. The agent that got me the truck was helpful, but her computer also kept freezing.

Crystal, the owner, did a great job taking care of me when it came to handling my unique issue. I would say though, U-Haul HAS to incentive its employees to not call off on those big moving days. It's not entirely the GM's fault when 30% of the staff decides to not come in. It's unfair for the employees that do show up to work.

I had a horrible experience with your truck. The latch got stuck twice, I figured it out the first time after attempting to shut it for like 45 minutes. Then I get to my destination I open the back door to get some things out, then guess what the damn latch gets stuck again. This time is worse than the first. Now I’m pissed and I call customer service they tell me they will be out in one hour and half. How the hell am I supposed to leave my things out in the open like that in CHICAGO. So I had to forcefully take all my stuff up to the second floor at like 1 am. total b.s. I called customer service again and they tell me the tech is still 30 minutes away. I managed to get everything out before he got here. What a shame to say the least. I am asking for full compensation. I made sure that the rep I called noted the system so you guys could see. If this issue is not resolved. I will NEVER rent from you guys again. I have history with you guys. I like you guys but this experience was a nightmare bar none.

If your website is down, it doesn’t allow me to return keys or document return truck. I was walking around for 15 min trying to find key return until I realized there isn’t one and door will open after truck is shown as returned online. This was frustrating as me and my brother could not sign in for 30. I don’t want to just leave key outside so I called in the morning n I waited in line another 30 min just to return the key. It was frustrating to have to drive back to make sure I wouldn’t be billed extra. There should be a backup key return in case the website is down! I’m thinking twice about UHAUL in the future I may just do Home Depot.

My reservation was cancelled without me being notified. I had people waiting. I called and spoke with a woman named Dee, she was very nice, but couldn't help, then I spoke with Amber, who also was very nice, but she couldn't help either, so Jenn helped me. She sent me to the closet U-Haul that had something available. It was NOIT what I asked for, it was a 30 minute drive away, I don't have a car, so it was 45 minutes by train. (Cost that wasn't in the budget). Then the key box wouldn't open, so I had to go into customer service and wait. Then it was a 10' foot truck as opposed to the van I wanted. The rental was more by the hour, added 12 miles more of driving that wasn't in the budget. I did get a call, authorizing a $50 credit, but it still didn't cover the bill because of all the changes and charges that had occurred because of tings that uHaul had taken out of my control.. I lost hours of time and all of the people that I had lined ups to help, left, because everything was so far behind. You've been in the business since 1945 and this is still going down? Wow. No,

Horrible customer service. There was an incredibly long line, and only two people working during the busiest moving weekend of the year in Chicago. When I finally received my truck, it was smaller than the one I reserved and it was on EMPTY when I got in. I would not recommend the Fullerton Chicago office to anyone, and especially those who are moving out of state.

There was only one person working inside the store and while she was doing a great job, she was obviously overworked and there was a line when I walked in and a line when I walked out and she was forced to answer phones while assisting customers. I think having more staff at this location would result in a better customer experience and better employee morale. That said, she was very accommodating and when it was my turn in line, I had a quick, efficient interaction that solved all of my needs.

This whole thing was a bust. We were late picking up the truck which they were all cool about. We told them we may it have for an hour over time, which is what ended up happening and they said all good. I didn't see anywhere about a late fee, and they fee'd the heck out of us making a $20 rental $70 somehow. They then charged a late fee for the whole 24 hours, at $40. This was supposed to be a $20 truck to use for ONE day and I ended up getting charged $110 DON'T USE U HAUL!

I was never notified that my rental location had been changed and had to wait on hold with customer services for 15 minutes until I could confirm where I needed to go. New truck had no gas so i was responsible for paying for it even if I was not going to use it all. Employees lacked awareness and did not seem knowledgeable about the process. Very terrible experience, would not use U-Haul again.

Drop off location was unacceptable was not aware the drop off location was different from the pick up location. Had I known that I would not have rented from U-Haul. After dripping off I found out I was charged for not having the right amount of fuel, I was not told this when I dropped off and was surprised to see this charge since I put in $25.00 worth of fuel two blocks from the first U-Haul location I tried to drop off at. I have another reservation for October I will be canceling.

There was a cigarette ashes all in the ashtray so I dump that. The cab smelled like cigarette smoke. Also the brakes in my specific rental truck we’re terrible. They squealed and we’re grinding my entire ride. It was very unenjoyable when I had the windows down. Did not feel too safe driving that truck. I also found a phone that did not belong to me in the truck so I attached a note on the phone and also drop that in the dropbox. The screen was already cracked before I returned it.I will not be held responsible for the damage of that phone.I just hope I made somebody’s day by returning the phone like a good person would.

I hate that I was unconventant. I was super tried, sore and overwhelmed with the move. Only to be close to finish and couldn't lock up the truck wuth some of muy things in it because three lock on the truck didn't work. At am in tge morning I had to travel to find a store OPEN to purchase a lot. This made me angry and frustrated. So what usually happens when the truck a person rent don't have everything working & causes more stress and financies on them? Do yoh all give them their next rental free or discounted? The first time I rented two weeks ago, the experience was fairly good. I was helped by a nice representative, though the check-in was pretty drawn out (including the cell phone photographing of my license on the employee's personal cell phone to send to UHaul). I was allowed to park my car in the giant, empty UHaul lot and my return was quick and easy. The second time I rented this past week was an entirely different experience. I had to wait 10 minutes for a representative to be available, I had to submit an alternate contact number (which I did not have to do last time) that had to be called as I waited, and I was told I could NOT park my car in the lot (last week I was told explicitly that I could) during my 2-3 hours of use of the UHaul truck. The employee who helped me was dismissive of my confusion about why multiple aspects of the process where completely different over the course of one week. The truck I received had no dolly and had some paper trash in the back. Upon returning the truck, I waited outside for 2-3 minutes but no one came around to check in the truck. When I went inside to inquire about whether someone could, four employees were standing at the counter talking and the woman who checked out the truck to me told me I could either check in myself on my phone or wait for an employee to be available (there was no customer at the counter at the time and she seemed pretty pleased to be telling me this). As I went outside, an employee walked out with me and I thought he would check me in, but he got on a forklift and rode away. I tried to check in the truck through my phone, but there was a problem with my location services and the web portal, so after trying for 5 minutes I went back in. I asked another person beginning to walk towards the door if he could help me and he followed me out and took my keys and basically told me there was nothing more to do. In summary, this location on this past Weds seemed well stocked with not very competent and not very friendly people who seemed quite uninterested in customer service. I will be looking for another truck option going forward.

The location was great but I wasn’t happy that it was switched the day before I was picking up the truck to a father location. I don’t think that is good service especially when I don’t have a car to pick up the U-Haul. I had to pay $15 just to pick it up.

I was given inaccurate information when I called to make the reservation, which resulted in me having to delay packing the U-Box by one day. In the middle of packing the U-Box onsite, we were told that the U-Box had to be repositioned outside of the storage area because the "new boss" had "new rules." Directly prior to this, there was a man who removed his car from the storage area, and prior to him driving off, he took pictures of the storage area, although the camera was aimed more at us than where he had been parked. His car was behind him at the time so he wasn't taking pictures of his vehicle either. I can't verify that he complained or expressed any concerns, but that coincidence is questionable. The staff person who came to speak with us even indicated that this particular individual was the "old boss," which also appeared to be questionable. Nonetheless, when the staff member approached us, we had most of my belongings outside of the U-Box, surrounding it, to more easily navigate how to pack it. This request to relocate the U-Box resulted in us having to move all of my belongings out of the way, which took time, and wait for the staff member to use the forklift to take the U-Box out of the storage area and put it outside of it so that the door to the storage area could be closed. We had no interest in looking at our touching anyone else's belongings. Despite my appearance that day, because we were packing, I earned a doctoral degree in 2002. I am a reputable professional, and I was spending my hard earned money for this service, just like any other customer. Additionally, this isn't an inexpensive service. I had no intention of spending this amount of money just to access other people's belongings. We were trying to pack the U-Box as quickly as possible because I was in the middle of a relocation to another state, which is stressful enough. If the policy, or "new rule," was to have the U-Box outside of the storage area, that should've been done prior to use starting to pack it. In my assessment, if packing the U-Box outside of the storage area was an actual policy, it would've already been implemented prior to our arrival. Specifically, the U-Box would've been ready for us to begin packing when we got to the location, and it would've been positioned outside of the storage area. Conveniently, awareness, or a reminder, of the "new rule" occurred while we were packing the U-Box. From a business perspective, it would seem that a rule of that magnitude would be reinforced in advance. Repositioning the U-Box delayed our progress and impeded our momentum. If I'd had any other options at that point, I would've cancelled the contract because I was already frustrated with the misinformation I'd been given that delayed us packing the U-Box by one day. There were more difficulties beyond this, but this survey appears to only be related to the Logan Square location. I, honestly, wouldn't use this company's service again or recommend it to anyone else.

The man that handed me the keys to the truck said I couldn't park my personal vehicle on the property in the spots labeled "U-Haul Costumers ONLY" because there might be other costumers coming later. I was picking up my vehicle at 4pm and I was returning before they closed at 6:50pm. There were also no other vehicles parked in the parking spots that were labeled for costumers. I had to move my car to Fullerton and find a spot which made me late to my appointment with the U-Haul. I was just confused why I couldn't park in the spots for costumers, when I was a customer. To be honest there was not enough staff working. I know companies have cut jobs and reduced labor hours but I think it's in acceptable for one rep to run the main desk alone. I had to wait for four people before I was helped with my reservation. I reserved online and checked-in in advance to try to speed up the process but it back fired because there was only one rep. The staff in the lot was fast and efficient, equipment was great, and the front desk was great too just gotta get her some help. ... Also must complain about my unfulfilled reservation from the same day because there was no cable to connect from truck to tow hitch that's unacceptable. I know I am expecting a $50 reimbursement but wow what an inconvenience had to go to another location and basically wasted a whole hour of my morning.

Staff was kind and helpful. When I arrived to pick up a truck reserved online and wanted to downsize to the next smaller truck, there was no issue. When I told them that I had left my phone in the Uber that brought me from Logan Square to the rental site, they used their personal phones to help me try to reach Uber and track it down. I really appreciated how they stepped up and helped me out.

Retrain Alex he checked me in and charged me over 178.80 mileage when it was only 20 miles. I had to wait over an hr for the rep inside to fix my stuff. The pregnant woman at this location is extremely rude she walked in on a conversation that me and the other rep was having with another guest and the pregnant woman spoke on the situation about being hungry when noone talked about food. I told her to mind her business because we wasnt talking to or about you and she begin to be very rude. Horrible experience and I will never be back at this location again. Staff need to be informed and not offer inaccurate information. If I'd had another option after starting, I would've cancelled both contracts. This was the absolute worst experience. I will never opt for this again. I'm also concerned about the shipment of the U-Box as well as what I'm being charge.

On top of that, they did not provide the dolly I reserved, which I did not realize until kI opened the back of the truck when I arrived at my apartment. I did not have time to go back for it being that I only had my movers scheduled for 1 more hour after the long wait to pick up the truck. Very unsatisfied with the service, and it ended up costing me a lot more time and money than originally anticipated.

I had problems with location services permissions on my phone. U-Haul should provide more detailed instructions in advance so you can optimize your phone for using self check-in. I would not recommend any U-Hall they the first time wasted one hr to get me the truck that cost me 60 for my movers for doing nothing. The secont time I asked for a truck they gave me a window that I was not sure of the time and they said that it could be changed at any time when I called to change they said there were no trucks I was so very upset I needed to get the fridge out of my old apartment and I was not leaving it for the ass holes that bout my building and took the rent from 800 to 1400. I was so very up set and finally they did get me a 17 ft truck. I bout the full inc and when I called to tell them about the accident they could not tell me what the deductible was. When I went to the police to make a report it took so long as it did not say on the contract that I had inc it took over 2 hr trying to get info to the police as your fucking people did not know anything as I was so upset the police called and they still did not get the policy number from them but they did tell the police I had the inc and even though I did not get the info I needed to finch the report the police took pity on me and did the report with out the info they needed. You need to retrain all your people and they need to but on the contract that people have inc they need to know the deductible and all info if a accident happens. You need more people to help people when cheeking in and checking out it should not take a hr it should take no more than 10 mins!!!!!!!!!I hate my experience with -Hall and I HATE that I have to email as I am learning disabled and the dyslexic it takes so long to tell you what I think and makes me so very very very upset!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not know why any one would ever use U-Hall again after how you are so incompetent!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can start by having more employees manning the desk. It is ridiculous to wait over an hour when there are only about 7 parties in line. I also didn't appreciate the U-Haul I picked up having a little less than 1/4 tank of gas. Finally, I submitted all my items to move through the online tool which recommended the 15' Truck. It didn't fit half of my stuff. I had to rent a second U-Haul and thus wait about 2 hours overall. Wasted 4.5 hours of my time with returning the truck (since they wouldn't allow a one-way for my second truck). And you also took 2x the money because your online tool did not estimate properly.

The day before I needed the truck I received a call informing me that I needed to pick up my truck at a different location due to the fact the truck I reserved was not available at my original location. This was fine, I was PROMISED a 20 foot truck would be available for my use at the new location. When arrived I was informed my 20 foot truck was not returned therefore they couldn't provide me with the truck I reserved a month ago. There were plenty of other trucks in the yard that were the size I reserved but I wasn't able to use those other trucks because they were not one way. I was given a 15 foot truck with a trailer to drive around the city of city in a snow storm (I am a 25 year old women, I do not know how to drive a trailer) ... Horrible customer service, will never reserve a truck through you all again...

Everything was ok till I dropped off the truck. When I arrived to this location to return the truck the guys didn’t acknowledge me when I pulled in, they stood talking to each other in a van. I came out the truck stood there for 2 mins and still nothing. Had to walk inside for the lady to tell me to go back outside. When I came back outside I asked one of them if they will check me in he told me to wait a second?! Why? No one was there but the two workers guys! They finish their conversation to tell me to leave the keys and I’ll get a email. Was their for 25 mins for them to just tell me that! When it’s simple and could of acknowledge me when I pulled in they’re both where just in a van talking! Very rude very unprofessional! Makes this location look very bad! The person who does the paper work was not very nice. She kept saying that the system was failing and that it was not her fault. I was in line for about 45 minutes waiting patiently. A customer before me was so upset with her that he left cursing at her. She literally argued back. The customer was wrong but she was worse. As I stood in line she kept on talking about him. You need to understand that we have things to do and sometimes it happens where you have to wait. That is a part of life..with that said this was beyond any of that. This was not good, and caused me to make multiple trips to move apartments, and required disassembly of furniture to fit the smaller truck. Made the move 10 times more difficult. I had to argue with the guy to add miles to the contract, since my trips were tripled. Plenty of bigger trucks there, but they were "reserved" for other customers. Well I was there in person with a reservation, and should have gotten the bigger truck.
