We were told that the fuel tank was full when we picked the truck up, but it was 1/4 full. Desk employee was very nice but wasn't wearing a mask. We weren't told where the furniture pads were, so we left without them, assuming they were in the truck.

Spend time orienting whatever van or truck is being rented. Don't assume the driver knows important particulars of each van or truck just because they know how to “ drive a car”. By “particulars” I would point out items on the dashboard such as how to turn on the lights, emergency lights, lights within the interior of the cargo space, windshield wipers, a.c. and/or heater, radio. Also location of gas tank. Also how to back up. Also how to be aware of allowing space on both sides of the truck so the driver doesn't clip off a side mirror or force the oncoming car off the road. Also how to assist with shifting â€" the truck may be automatic but many of these trucks are old and have been driven by many drivers. There are ways to ease up on the gas pedal when climbing a hill so the transmission doesn't strain when trying to shift. Also suggestions on how to ease into traffic or how to change lanes. â€" again, these trucks have suffered a lot of abuse by being driven by amateurs, not experienced truckers. There may be videos on some of my suggestions but the driver is sitting in the truck ready to drive away. No time to watch a video. Perhaps a “knowledge checklist” rather like a safety checklist all pilots must complete no matter how experienced they are. I had to call U-Haul several times to get help on some of the above items within 1 hour of driving my 15 foot truck. Each call took waiting to be answered and then placed “in line” for a call back. One question took 2 call backs as the initial person didn't know the answer to my question and had to refer me to emergency services. My frustration, and some anger, could have been alleviated if the initial staff person took time to orient me to the truck instead of saying “just drive it like a car”!!!

I rented a trailer. The installation was not done correctly and the trailer came off the hitch 15 minutes after the rental. I was on a highway and for some reason the trailer sat on the hitch until I made a left getting off the highway. The trailer almost flipped as it flew wildly behind my car. It kept smashing into the spare tire of my jeep and had I not had the tire, I would be suing uhaul for damages. I was lucky I or other drivers were not killed. I wrote a detailed email to the manager Bob Corbeil and got NO REPLY. I am escalating next week. This particular location is horrific and always has been. I will never go to that location again.

Ouch! You know those ads on their trucks that say "In Town 20 $"? Well, not quite. First of all, you have to pay another 20 $for insurance. Although your own car insurance covers rental cars, and it typically does cover liability for damage or injury caused to others and their property by a U-Haul truck, it typically does NOT cover "equipment" and the U-Haul truck itself is considered equipment. So, as U-Haul warns when you're completing the rental application, even a van with no back seats or windows, etc. can cost up to 45 000 $to repair. So you're pretty much obligated to fork over the extra 20 $for insurance. I figured I'm literally staying in town, only driving a grand total of about 10 miles to do this errand, so I passed on the insurance. But that means you have to complete the form that verifies the condition of the vehicle when you pick it up. The pictures that they have of the vehicle you're renting are not of the vehicle you're renting. They are stock photos of a brand new, absolutely spotless vehicle that looks like it hasn't even left the factory yet. So, you have to take pictures of all the grime stains, inside and out, and broken plastic things on the roof (not sure what those plastic things are there for anyway) and the model I had looked slightly different at the passenger side back sliding door, which did not close flush to the back panel so I figured I better document that as well since that gap was not seen in their stock photo. Each of these pictures have to be uploaded to their app and you get to write a little description of what the discrepancy is from their stock photo. By the time I was done with all that I thought I should have just paid the extra 20 $for insurance, just to avoid the hassle of the documentation! But that's not all you might have to pay. As I was paying with my credit card before picking up the vehicle, the clerk was giving me the rundown of being charged the extra 1,09 $ per mile and when the car had to be returned and where and how to do that and that the gas tank had to be full or they will charge some exhorbitant amount to fill it and he mentioned something about paying attention to the gas gauge so as to avoid "donating gas to U-Haul." I didn't really understand that but didn't pay much attention, considering I was only going to drive 10 miles total from pick-up to drop-off. In my car, with a full tank, I have to go 50 miles before the gas gauge moves from over full down to the F. So, I figured, driving only 10 miles total, I don't need to worry about the gas gauge on this rental. That was a big mistake. When I was about to return the vehicle, the gas gauge had dropped from over full to a little more than 7/8 full. So, to avoid paying the exhorbitant U-Haul gas price, I stopped at a gas station and asked to fill it up, saying that it would likely be just a gallon or so. It took over 5 gallons to fill the tank for my 9-mile trip! That was 17 $. It turns out that, according to the U-Haul clerk, the truck has a "Reserve Tank" that apparently is NOT full when you rent the truck. So, if you don't pay attention to the graphic on your email confirmation that shows that for a little over 7/8 full tank you only need to add 1,7 gallons to get the gas gauge to F, then you end up filling the reserve tank, thus "donating gas to U-Haul." That's what the clerk was talking about when he used those words. Reserve tank? What for, so when you run out of gas, you haven't actually run out? OK, I guess. Not sure how that would work. But if that's the case, then why is that "reserve tank" not full when you pick up the truck in the first place? Makes no sense. Someone should investigate how often U-Haul gets unintended gas "donations." So, including taxes and fees, but NOT including insurance, I ended up paying a total of 30 $+ 17 $for gas, and if I had paid for insurance, it would have been another 20 $: Grand total: 67 $to do this one little errand. I probably could have hired a handy man to do it for less and might not have even had to lug the furniture in and out of the van.

I drove total 8 miles but I spent for the Gas 18,35 $. When I strared the U-truck I noticed Gas was not full little bit short . but short like that ,I never thought . I wanted to tell but I didn't have time . So a U hall team member could be monitor before renting , Thanks.

I have rented before and got decent trucks. This truck had over 100k miles on it and the engine was over revving all the time. I took off the towing feature immediately but that didn't fix the issue. The fuel efficiency in this truck was poor. Time to put it out to pasture.

Great experience. I had my stuff here for a year and was able to access it a few times. None of my stuff was damaged over the course of the year. Some of the employees tend to get frustrated easily which can come off mean but otherwise, great experience.

The only person there to help the clients hurried to give me information on the vehicle's return. When I went to return, I couldn't find the drop off box and waited 45 minutes for the customer service without having my questions to be answered . My recommendation would be for having at least 2 employees to help customers and give clear informations and especially have a bigger and visible sign for a drop off box. I waisted so much time driving up and down and asking people where to drop of the keys. That was the worse part of my first time experience with Uhal.

I was surprised at how heavy the 6x12 trailer was! It'd be great if it came with a "front" wheel for the tongue so that the trailer could be rolled around when not attached to the vehicle.

The people working when I picked up the truck were excellent. I was running late and got in just before they closed but they still were able to get me a van. Thank you to them! When returning the van though I had issues tagging my location in safari on my iPhone. I followed all the steps to allow location sharing but it still didn't work. Eventually I tried it on chrome and it worked right away. I'm not sure if it was my phone or an issue with the website. I tried the link on someone else's phone as well before chrome and it didn't work either.

I pulled in to the parking lot and went inside. The gentleman inside just told me to leave the keys in the truck and they would get to it when they can. After my pick up experience, I did not feel comfortable doing that. But had to because the rep was very unhelpful. You really need to work on your customer service.

The inside of the uhaul cab was not clean. Their was old food, used masks and it was just dirty. The back was very clean. The uhaul facility is always very helpful and very friendly and if I had time to point it out before my appointment with the truck I rented the would have fixed the issue.

Frustrating. There is a lack of coordination between the online reservation and the instore info. My online quote was 2x the price when I went to pick up the truck. The desk ppl asked me to call corporate to deal with it. I tried calling - it was an hour wait to talk to someone. They finally figured it out in the store - but it was VERY frustrating. Also, the mileage allowed online and then via phone calls was less once I picked up the truck. Not a big deal as I didn't go over the mileage, but stressful in anticipating if I was going to get charged for additional miles.

I had to run back and further from the storage and front desk even when it was about to close in order to get settled in. At first they could not find my unit until they did. Gave me everything I needed to move in could not pass the elevator. Run back got a temporary code finally got in after trying before for like 30 mins. Found that my unit had a giant pillar in the middle taking up so much space, had all my stuff ready to go on the floor , left it unattended, ran down asked to change my unit, got a new one.!YAY! Ran up from the front desk area to the unit area couldn't get in again tried 10mins thinking if I'm stupid and not reading it right. Ran down, told them I can't get in with this code, the front desk person said oh I forgot to mention to use the temporary code for the second one, I run up to the unit entrance can't get in. It's all locked and I put in the number correctly, nothing. Can't get in! Haha It's closing time, I got to this place hours ago, it's been probably 3hrs not being able to get in. I run down it's closing and someone else helped me got up with me and tried it herself and said I have to put in the code into one door and the other at the same time and it worked! Which was helpful. But the functionality of getting things going there is horrible. I finally get to my unit and it's up the stairs, I just laugh! At least there's not a pillar in the middle but the walls are broken and no roofing wire to protect your stuff. Honestly if someone wanted to they could go up on a small stole and climb over and take your stuff so yeah. And to drop off a uhaul during closing hours was terrible too, I could not get into the website at all. It does not work, told us there's a website that we can do that , spent an hour trying different phones to drop the car could not access it! Had to drive the uhaul van back to our house wait next morning to drop it off while having crutch time with other personal things. Btw the walls of my unit was torn off from both sides so uhh kinda scared leaving it there, I will definitely try to move it somewhere else that is safer! And aside from this location uhaul as a whole reserving a van or truck etc. is frustrating because I reserved it ahead of time so I can travel to my real home town and I was told that they may not have this van at the location I asked. I wanted to reserve ahead of time so just in case it doesn't work I can cancel purchase from somewhere else but they told us we will let you know a day before pick up. I'm shocked and call them frequent times to know of any updates and told me it could be up to a 100miles and I'm getting worried because if it's very far I won't have enough time to move things into the truck and leave from NJ to MA. They said I would be updated or a call barely got any just a bunch of scare notice. Lucky the uhaul van was 25mins away and then asked where the drop off would be they said they would let me know the day of pick up. It was definitely a ride first experience

There were numerous customers inside the building waiting to pick up who were NOT wearing masks. While staff were wearing masks, I was shocked to see that they were not asking customers to mask up. Very uncomfortable experience to be inside a building with unmasked people.

Lights didn't go on near my unit and there was a large hole in the unit wall. Front desk was largely unavailable because they were understaffed. Couldn't find my unit at first because of walls blocking certain hallways and was not told about this, or helped with during the time I was searching. Felt like a very apathetic response.

The key card wasn’t working well, the gave me a storage unit with a lock on it so I had to go back and get a new one and the new one was dark, dirty and had a huge pole in it which i didnt ask for.

I haven't yet seen the exact storage unit E1181, however expect it to be like the rest of the facility. The woman that helped me was fantastic, very patient, I think her name was Katrina Very attentive even as It became very busy I did not feel rushed and the customers that were waiting to be help were fine because she continuously acknowledged them with updates of the process. I'm sure you folks at u-haul must know that Katrina is a valuable asset to the company. Well thanks this is my first time ever needing to rent a storage unit. Jack MacEachern New Customer

This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had with any business. I was told that the reason for poor service was due to being short staffed. Meanwhile the employees were arguing because one took an hour and a half lunch. When he returned another woman came out and started drawing on his hand making a "pen tattoo." Another was sleeping on the furniture pads. After explaining that I need enough room to get 3 couches in, I was given a space that was in a small corridor where I could not fit my furniture. I went back to the front desk where I was given another space in the same area. If you have half decent furniture that you do not want gnawed by rats, find another place. Not only are there rat traps everywhere but there are transients hanging around inside the building. They couldn't figure out how to key the access card so they gave me the entry code. I would guarantee that code works today and 6 months from today so not only is it filthy but not secure. Finally, some guy came back from lunch to "help" and gave me a space that was half the size of the other ones. I thought I was being punked. I was at UHaul for over two hours and while still waiting, finally called Extra Space Storage on the other side of Medford. I called them at 4:45PM and was finished moving in by 5:30. Go to Extra Space Storage or put your stuff in your Mom's basement but just do not use UHaul. I had to put extra miles on the UHaul truck and extra gas after being toyed with all afternoon. On top of all of this I still got charged!!! I called the customer service line and spoke with a very nice and capable woman named Katrina. I was on the phone for 45 minutes and was finally told that the money will be back in my account in 3-5 business days. Do not go to this business. Let me write this again. DO NOT GO TO THIS BUSINESS! After all of this lunacy I realized that these people did me a favor because now I never have to deal with them again.

I arrived to check in with a huge truck full of stuff on the way and was informed that UHaul doesn't honor storage reservations - it's first come first served. I showed them my confirmation email with the unit, price, size, and move in date. I was informed that uhaul does not give preference to customers with reservations and that they didn't have a storage unit big enough for my things. I had to store my things in a friends basement and I have not been able to get a refund from uhaul. This is personally my second time having an experience like this with uhaul.

Split second floor was not great to bring heavy stuff up and down. I'll avoid it next time. Facility doors were sometimes unlocked, convenient but insecure. Overall staffs are rude but do their job.

First my access card didn't work (the person helping me said that was to be expected, so why then did I have to walk over to establish this?), then the storage turned out to contain someone else's stuff, then the newly assigned storage unit was sealed so I had to find someone to open it for me. Also I had to buy a lock but there was already a new lock in the unit, which was confusing. Did I really need to buy a new lock? All in all I had to walk up and dodwn to the office 4 times, and it took me an hour. It's also quite expensive. I will t explore other options in the neighborhood.

Office was understaffed, lines were huge. The first unit I rented had somebody else's things in it. The second unit had a door that would not close. I asked an employee in the loading dock for assistance with the broken door. He literally grunted at me and then walked away. I spent over 3 hours moving two boxes into storage due to facility mismanagement and employee incompetence.

Reason for losing a star is that I reserved a storage locker online and was told that no lockers of that size were available when I arrived. It doesn't make sense to allow people to reserve something that doesn't exist. I specifically drove to that location for that size. Thankfully a locker that was still big enough was available, but if I'd driven there for nothing I would've been very upset with U-Haul.

Honestly the unit was not built for short people. The 2 step ladder that was there was barely helpful. I did not like my experience at all. If I would've known that I was going to have to climb to put storage on the top level I would've brought a bigger ladder. Also, you have a promotion that says "first month free with a truck rental" and that promotion was not applied to me. I rented a storage unit and a truck and I still got charged for the first month of storage.

This is arguably one of the worst storage facilities I've ever been to. The facility is definitely understaffed and customers end up waiting quite a while to talk with employees and access the moving trucks and storage rentals. The employees are extremely rude and unhelpful, the facility has poor/inconsistent signage, and the maps are nonexistent or indecipherable, so you end up wasting time trying to find your rental location. The facility called me three times about my rental, but made it impossible to talk with any staff because wait times to talk with a U-Haul employee were in excess of 45 minutes. There is also no available first-aid for band-aids, etc. in case you get injured. The mobile return app is also poorly designed and extremely confusing. I would strongly recommend avoiding U-Haul if possible!

My unit has an extra set of steps that I wasn't told about before renting it. It's also very far from the elevator. If I had known how far I have to carry large furniture, I would not have rented here. Also, I was not told beforehand that I would have to give out a friends address and phone (the "third phone number" requirement). That's an onerous requirement. Finally, we had trouble finding the unit the first time, even though we asked staff for directions. We had to go back twice to the customer service desk to ask where it was and even then it she was unhelpful. Your units are hard to find - how hard would it have been for staff to explain the layout when we first asked??!

This was my first time renting from Medford U-Haul. I had a very good conversation with two employees in the morning. However they failed to mention the after hours return fee of 20 $that I was charged. I initially had my reservation booked until 3:00 pm. I asked if it could be extended and the person sitting at the front desk agreed to reschedule to 6 pm without any charge. When returning the vehicle, the mobile app accepted the photos initially but went back to the same screen when I clicked next. It took more than an hour before the app finally worked. This again wasted a lot of my time and very inconvenient when it was raining outside.

We came on 1/30/2021 to access the storage unit for the first time and were told by the staff that they were too busy to accommodate us accessing the unit and instructed to return at 6:30pm. At 6 pm I called the facility to ensure that we could be accommodated and I waited on hold for 30 minutes... decided not to go in at this time for obvious reasons. We returned the following morning and were helped with our unit. This did take some time and when we left there was a huge line of people behind us. Perhaps the facility would benefit from additional staff to meet the needs of its customers.

I was first given the wrong unit number and had to return to the front desk. I also had to ask for a different unit because it was up a flight of stairs. When I returned to the storage elevator, the access card didn't work. I then got a new one, but upon returning to the storage unit I found that it was locked. Then I went to the front desk AGAIN, returning to the unit with an employee with the key. But it turned out to be the wrong key, so we had to wait for her to go back to the front desk to get the right one. We finally gained access to the unit, but it was smaller than the one I had reserved, and irregularly shaped, causing extra delays in loading it.

The only issue with the online process was with the free lock. There was no free lock in my unit as promised. Luckily, I already owned a uhaul lock and happened to bring it with me.

The first unit I was assigned had a giant column in it. This information does not seem to be in the computer system. The card-key is not working which complicates things. Got a unit with steps in the access. Not ideal. Unit with no steps not available.

We have had a large storage unit in Boston for 2 years @ 220 $a month & just moved to Arlington MA & wanted a smaller unit The guy at the counter was Very Nice , Very Patient , helped us find just the right size unit , please forward this 10 star rating to him ,people need to hear good things during the hard times were going through & be complimented on the good work they do Thank You for another good experience

Your website says to be 15 min earlier before closing to be able to get the unit that I reserved so i arrived and I was in the office 35 min earlier. the person in charge he didn't want to give me the unit complaining how he was short stuff. So He made me drive back again a distance 45 min and come back an other 45 min drive so i can get the unit next day. I work in a fast food industry as a manager I am always short stuff and costumers come in 10 min before close what would I say I am sorry I don't make your food ? He had only one customer that was done after 10 min probably he was lazy to do the work that was exactly 10 min cause next day the lady helped me took only 10 min for the contract got the lock and that was it.

We rented a storage unit online. When we got to the facility, we learned that the unit had a big concrete column n the middle that took up 1/3 of the available space. The folks at the facility helped us switch units to one without a column, but your online interface should make clear when there is an obstruction in the unit.

Store was VERY busy due to the colleges moving students out of the dorms, yet there was only one person working at the desk who is very overwhelmed by the people standing in line. There did not seem to be a manager or anyone else around. Even though we checked in online we still had to go into the store and wait in line because our code did not work, and there was no free lock inside the storage room they initially assigned us and once we got the lock it did not work because the door was not lined up properly. We had to go back and wait in line again in order to be switched into another room. There was a gentleman who was taking people to their storage rooms and he came with us to make sure that the room was satisfactory this time and that the lock did work. We rented our unit on March 11th, the day before U-Haul announced that college students could have one month for free. I have called the local store several times and no one answers and I get transferred to the National customer service who keeps telling me there's nothing they can do that I have to talk to the local locationfor the free month since we rented the unit the day before the free month was offered by U-Haul. I will still continue to call because the only reason we rented this unit was because my daughter was told to move out of her dorm and we knew if we didn't rent it immediately we would probably not be able to get a spot. The workers we dealt with were friendly, but the store seemed to be understaffed, and the staff that was there seems to be overwhelmed. Perhaps it was because it was the first day after move out to were announced for the colleges...

I had 2 boxes delivered from west coast and they were helpful getting them to my apartment on time. Because of July 4 holiday my boxes stayed in storage for 4 extra days but they did not charge me.
