The online pickup/drop off process is far too tedious. The additional info requested was overkill and the calls and texts to both of my contacts listed was unnecessary. This specific location is extremely congested and the service was fine, but there was no skipping the line when picking up the keys, as it's a gas station with one employee.

My experience with U-Haul was very poor. I first emailed them directly before posting this, hoping to get a response. I did not. 1) The supplies I needed (1 queen mattress protector, 1 medium box) were located at a different U-Haul facility than the location I was supposed to pick up my truck from. I went to pick them up first, then once arriving to the location to pick up my truck, I see all the supplies I needed at this location. Someone had not done their inventory correctly. This cost me wasted time and money on two Ubers getting between the two places to pick up supplies and the truck, because it was raining. 2) There was no point in me making my appointment time. The U-Haul system was down and the attendant could not check me in or log me in to get my vehicle. I waited for a total of ONE HOUR to get my vehicle. In this hour, we a) called U-Haul several times, were told it was a tri-state wide outage, then told again it was a "nationwide" outage, then left on hold b) I downloaded the U-Haul app and started the U-Haul check-in process (which I had already done prior to arriving to the location, because the email from U-Haul said something like, "complete your online check-in to same time!" what a joke) to see if that would allow me to access the vehicle, as per the attendant's suggestion. c) the app left me on the 'awaiting approval' page during which I received no correspondence from any U-Haul representative. d) at this point, I was ready to cancel my reservation. I was told by the attendant's U-Haul rep (whom he called) that I could get a $50 credit for the inconvenience. e) whomever I spoke to at U-Haul (and this was really disrespectful) was very rude when I told him what had happened, he said abruptly that I would get my $50 credit, then hung up. He did not even ask for my name or know where I was calling from, or my Order #! 3) Because I was waiting for 1 hour to get my moving truck, I was now severely delayed in my moving schedule, and into traffic time in New York City. It took me an hour to get to and from my storage unit to my apartment, and because of traffic I had to take different routes that were longer mileage amounts. I specifically requested my vehicle at 2pm before traffic in NYC, but instead got it at 3pm, and it took an extra 2 hours for me to move because of traffic, AND I got charged for extra miles taken to avoid this traffic. 4) The venue that had these U-Haul vehicles was a gas station. This is NOT A GOOD LOCATION for U-Haul either, given that a million different things were going on while I was trying to get my car and the U-Haul system was down: people coming in to get snacks, gas, and there was a car service center so people also coming in for getting their tires fixed, etc. The phone was ringing off the hook. The attendant was not focused on helping me fully and was frustrated. We got in a disagreement and it was very uncomfortable for me. U-HAUL DID NOT HELP ME AT ALL, we had to wait for the system to reboot and let me put down my credit card before I could take the car. The whole ordeal was so unpleasant. This was absolutely unacceptable.

I didn't want to go to this location but apparently were no trucks were available at west 23rd street, because it is physically impossible for a uhaul employee to drive the truck to the location the customer ACTUALLY booked.

The fact that I cannot return vans to a different location is incredibly inconvenient and much more expensive. What I was told on the phone, and what I saw online VS what happened in store was totally different. This was a miserable experience, added $200 and 6 additional hours to my trip. This location needs to improve.

I was happy that the location was convenient. I would have given this location 5 stars but the attendant was giving me a hard time to get the keys. Thankfully the customer service from U-Haul helped me but it was very unnecessary. He was asking for more proof than U-Haul required and that made me lose time in the time frame I had to move out. Overall truck was great and U-Haul customer service was awesome.

My reservation was for 8am, but this location, one that I was switched to last minute for the pick-up, did not open until 9am. Someone did come at 825am and I was able to pick up my truck, but I was late by 10 minutes to a running clock for the start of the move out for the hired mover's 2-hour period.

This is the 2nd or 3rd time I have been charged for extra gas when I returned the truck with more gas than it had when I started. I told the attendant that there was less than half and when I took it out. I showed him the picture of the gauge and he said no problem return it with the same amount. I returned the truck with the same or more gas and I was charged for an additional 2.5 gallons.

Drivers side headlight was out, which we discovered as soon as it got dark. The battery was low, and each time we turned the truck on, it sounded like the ignition wouldn't turn over. I'm surprised we didn't get stuck in the middle of no where. Drivers side windshield wiper didn't work. Overall......really unsatisfied for paying over $1200.00 USD.

I paid for a furniture dolly but the uhal rep would not let me take it because I wasn't returning the truck to the same location and it was apparently "his property". You scamming assholes can't charge me for equipment then not let me use it.

The gentleman at the location was great. He was dealing with many customers and handling everything by himself, doing a great job. Give him a raise. As to your "online process": Rude, slow, illogical and deficient. When a customer arrives to pick up their truck, all they should do is get the key and leave. Why the hell are you asking for more documents that you 1) did not mention before and 2) had ample time to request during the on-boarding process. You are a joke, and an insult to your customers and anybody that has spent 1 day learning about process work-flow and management.

The fellow who managed the transaction was helpful and understanding. Being that the location is in a gas station on a corner lot in Manhattan, it wasn't that easy to pull out onto Lexington Avenue. That is the reality of being in the city. But once on the street, it was an easy drive.

Customer service agents were all over the place. They were sending me to other departments that couldn't help. They did not seem to truly comprehend what I needed so instead they sent me to a a manager that theY thought could fix the issue. I spent over an hour in the phone trying to get them to simply send the store my updated information. The hold time is atrocious.

Very easy pickup, the gentleman checking me in was terrific, very personable and helpful, actually took me in a bit early which helped a lot. The only issue I've had is how long wait times are when trying to talk to a phone agent. I had to change the reservation because of travel plans being modified, and we had rented a car dolly as well. Of 5 different agents I spoke with only one mentioned the car dolly might not be at same location as the van. Indeed, when we got the scheduling call the day before, we were told the dolly was at an entirely different location in the Bronx (the van was in Manhattan). it took almost an hour and a half to get there in a driving rainstorm and NYC traffic lights. I think the phone bank needs work, as well as proper instruction to agents about what exactly the requirements are in urban areas like NYC when renting any trailer. Otherwise the vehicles were terrific and a comfortable smooth drive. Thanks.

Make sure that you honor reservations. I went to pick up my car and the gas station told me they were closed and he couldn't help me. Even after I showed my reservation, he still told me know. I went to a lot of trouble, and lost an hour of my reservation trying to pick up the truck.

They told me that the van I had reserved and been emailed as confirmed was not available and that my reservation had been moved to the BRONX??? without notifying me and offered no solution other than telling me I'd have to call to complainThey made me take a larger truck that was more expensive. They also never directed me to the truck and when i asked which one they told me the wrong one. Not helpful or professional.

U-Haul advertised that now you can pickup the truck rental 24/7. So I booked a trick with pick up time 5am in the morning to avoid traffic in Manhattan. I arrived on time and checked in on my cellphone. As instructed by the app, I went to the clerk at the gas station to get the key. But the clerk told me that the person who has the key won't be there until 7am. So I had to waste 2 hours waiting for the key and then drove the truck during bad traffic in rush hour, which totally screwed my schedule and ruined my day. I would never recommend this location to anyone.

The pickup and drop-off processes were very disorganized. We attempted to use the mobile check-in and after waiting 20 minutes, the attendant finally agreed to help us check in manually. This cut into over 30 minutes of our reservation. The attendant was not wearing a mask during our interaction. During drop-off, a different attendant was unhelpful. After asking if we had completed the check-out process–to which we responded that we had not– he parked the van and took the keys inside, telling us just to take a photo of the dashboard. We then had to retrieve the keys from him to take the other photos required for check-out.

The pick up using the app did not work. Had to wait in line to get the vehicle which defeated the purpose of the virtual checkin. Additionally, the hand truck was not in the vehicle, nor were the moving blankets. Were they supposed to be in the vehicle if I had requested for them in advance?

I asked for a mattress cover ,he Never ask me what size . I needed a queen size , he gave me twin size . Mattress became little dirty , these times with corna 19 Need more protection. How does someone sell sized item and doesn't ask you your size . Dirty mattress now .
