It was unclear from the app where I was supposed to return the truck. I almost left it in the lot where I picked it up, which would have been incorrect. Better instructions would go a long way.

However, the only elevator to the third floor has been out of service for over 6 months. This is not the first time that it has been long service for an extended period of time. That is unacceptable and is the primary reason I had to hire movers to move my storage items to another facility.

Leigh RatinoI rated the facility average because it has been 5 or 6 months since the elevator has been broken. I have two units here and it is a great inconvenience to have to walk around to another elevator just to get to the second floor and then have to carry my bins up another flight to the 3rd floor. This is unacceptable. U-haul needs to discount the cost to customers until they can provide quality service that would warrant the money charged for these units. It's not cheap renting storage. I ask that you fix the elevators in a timely manner. Thank you in advance for your immediate attention to my concerns.

Timothy LockridgeI was called by someone and was told that I should bring to this location which was fine very close to my destination.I was told that I had until 6:30 to return the truck. I got there at 6:00 waited to get checked in. No real attention by anyone. I was finally told to leave my key in the cup holder. I pulled up my receipt and was charged for an extra day. I feel that the charge should be refunded for the extra day as I had followed the instructions that I was given.
Brent BarberThe location was easy to get to, but I was under the impression the reservation would be good to go for me to immediately pick up the truck using the app which was not the case. Fortunately Jayrome was able to get me sorted out pretty quick. The truck worked and was functional. It was mostly clean but the cabin smelt pretty severely like an ash tray. Fortunately I didn't go very far, but that would have been rough on a long haul.
Joshua ChampionThe truck has less than 1/16th of a tank of gas. The guys in the parking lot were nice enough to put a little gas in the tank so I could get to a gas station. It should have been filled before I got there.

Michael KarberI had to wait 1 hr 30 minutes to get a Cargo Van , I have reserved a Cargo Van to pick up at 1:30 pm and was able get it at 2:39 pm , that only happened when I raised my voice , the one lady who seems to be a manager step in gave me a van otherwise god knows how long I would have been waiting there u ! If you don't want to waste your time or screw your whole move day don't reserve her go somewhere else!
Mohammad RasullyThe app wasn't working and it took nearly an hour to get my reservation after filling out the forms twice. Then, once I finally got my keys, I went to get the van and it was blocked behind another van. We asked for help and the worker got it figured out but was very rude about it. He pulled out the van in front the one I had rented but just barely enough to squeeze through into a lane of active traffic. He complained that I was taking too long to pull out, despite me not being comfortable driving such a large vehicle so quickly and in such a tight space. Needless to say it was an uncomfortable situation and I was rushed out without being given time to look over the vehicle before taking it and getting pushed into the road. I would never recommend U-Haul to anybody after this experience.

I'm not sure why I'd have to enter assurance contacts the day of checking out the truck -why couldn't this be done before the reservation? It's freezing outside and I'm waiting for the store to open to get inside and get passed the assurance check so I can leave. And having to download an app when I am only using U-Haul once is silly. Let people checkout in a web browser and not download another app.

david bannishThe locker size that I reserved online was not available. The staff gave me a pair of top and bottom lockers that provided the same amount of space on the third floor. Then, as apparently happens often, the elevator to the third floor was out of service. So I was again transferred: to two side by side bottom lockers. This probably was the best outcome, although it wasn't easy to safely move around in a metal box with low clearance. Customer service was resourceful, often after a long wait and sometimes without a smile. I only learned by a chance encounter that I had to pay extra and make arrangements to trash unwanted items. But overall, I am satisfied with my experience a d confident that I wouldn't have had a better deal at Public Storage or any other nearby facilities.

I was late for my pickup, and returned late because it took me over half an hour to even see a person, while someone at the front desk was just sitting there on their phone the whole time. I'm beyond furious at the check in experience here and I will not be returning
Brendan GillespyThe employees working at this location were all very unhelpful and unprofessional and seemed like their customers were a burden to them when requesting a simple check out process. Specifically, u cannot remember her name but if you're able to check my account and see who initially attempted to proceed with the pick up process for my truck, that employee was rude, mean, and angry. She incorrectly changed my pickup location to Waynesboro, when I requested Williamsburg. When I kindly and calmly ask that she correct her mistake she became visibly upset and agitated, and told me that I needed to call the U-Haul number after I paid for the truck and they would adjust the drop off location for me. However I was confused but it appeared as though my price had increased by a full $150. I pointed that out and she continued to respond on a rude and agitated manner until she finally sighed heavily? Threw down the keyboard and mouse, and WALKED AWAY, without saying anything to me about any possible further solutions or offering assistance. Of course I called U-Haul to request the change be done BEFORE the pick up, and the customer service agent happily and quite easily fixed the problem for me. You'll see that the price was then adjusted once again to what I had originally been quoted, which was $150 cheaper. So we began the pick up process again, this time with another employee. He was more helpful and willing to help than his colleague, but he also seemed highly inefficient with the check out process and had to ask someone else questions on how to proceed. When he checked in he saw that my truck had the drop off location changed back to Williamsburg. So he began to fill out that form and then for some unknown reason, consulted with the previous colleague who had been rude to us and given us the wrong drop off location, and suddenly the truck had the drop off location to be in Waynesboro again. We asked him to change it and the previous employee chimes in again, quite rudely saying, "I told you you needed to call the number," from the counter desk three desks away, above other customers standing in line. I asked again if the gentleman helping us could just use the map view on his computer, which he showed us, to select the correct location. He did so. The system updated, which was highly frustrating because the previous employee we had been working with could have done that and saved us nearly an HOUR of waiting to pick up our truck, and we were able to check out. However, the price that was appearing was STILL $150 more than was quoted to me. The employee explained that this was because of some nonsense such as that the truck was originally scheduled for one way when I needed a drop off in another location. I told him that couldn't be possibly because I had called and confirmed several times and had selected the 2 day 191 mile drop off at a different location option and had confirmed that over the phone with the U-Haul representative right there in the store AND with him only moments before until they decided to change my drop off location to one that was over 200 miles from what I had selected. Ultimately we paid the additional charge because he just shrugged and said he didn't know what to tell me, and I did not want to continue to hold up a growing line of clients. However that was the absolute worst customer service experience I have EVER had to deal with in my life, and I have used U-Haul several times for my moving needs without issue. I likely won't be using U-Haul again.

She acted as if I was lying about the mileage on the truck and basically brushed me off. The next day when I went to drop the truck off different staff but same rude attitudes. I will never come back to this location.

Not many gas stations in the city, so I had to drive extra miles to get gas before my move (and was charged $9 for the extra miles).

We ordered two dollies a week in advance and only 1 was available when we arrived. The entire experience was horrific. I will never rent from U Haul again (even though we live nextdoor) and I will be sure to let others know that this U Haul (South Capital DC) is in absolute shambles. Unbelievably bad. The only redeeming part was the the manager gave me a discount (after directly rolling her eyes at me twice). I wish I could give zero stars.

Secondly, The gentleman who was accepting vehicle returns spoke to me in a condescending manner as if I worked for him, plus banging on the back door until I unlocked it. People have to realize they don't have a job to get a free check. They don't have to be overly friendly but being respectful as they would like in return go a long way. I will happily go elsewhere to get better service.

David Propis | Expérience généraleStorage was great. Clean. Secure. Some of the staff could use encouragement to be more interested in helping the customers who are in line. A lot of people who come to these places are on tight schedules, going through a move, and waiting excessively or feeling like the employees don't care if you are waiting just adds to the stress of an already stressful occasion. However some of the employees were very sweet and helpful. After a fiasco where my unit wasn't available that I'd reserved, the manager offered to find a way to make it right and one of the employees Mike was a HUGE help and helped us move into our different unit. All in all I'll give 5 stars because despite some employees, the management is redeeming and some employees do act like they care. The location is pretty convenient too for Navy Yard.

They responded kindly and professionally. The maintenence just wasn't in time for my needs. I wish when I got a 5 x 5 x 10, that I knew it would be two 5 x 5 x 5 units. That made it hard to plan for space because I thought I'd have 10 feet.

My only complaint was that the staff member who leased me the storage unit assigned me one with a huge support beam in the middle of it without informing me beforehand. Had I known about this feature of the unit, I would have requested a different one before signing all the paperwork. The support beam took up a lot of space and made it challenging to store and access my items throughout the lease.

I used the codes provided, they had carts available for me to move my stuff, and my unit was exactly as described. It was significantly easier than I expected it would be, highly recommend!

Although, while the place is seemingly kept very clean, I was surprised to see mouse droppings on the floor of my storage locker. I was also somewhat concerned by the mousetrap box/poison pellets thrown on top of the boxes (presumably from the open air locker ceiling) knowing when I bring my boxes and things back into my home that things might be dirty from mice and I will need to be mindful not to ingest any poisonous residue on boxes and items. There was also visible evidence of a mouse chewing through the corner of a bag. So admittedly I am a little nervous about what else I might discover when unwrapping my items.

RICHARD GILBERT | Expérience généraleAs a long time renter at this facility I think the current management is doing a great job-it's always clean and the elevators work reliably. This was not always the case. Several issues continue to cause difficulty. One, there is often no parking at the loading locations, there are sometimes no hand carts, there are not enough stairs (we had an upper unit). Sunday hours should start before 9 am. Last, there is not much uhaul can do but the general safety in the area has deteriorated significantly to the point where I would not rent here again.

The rest of the team were unsurprisingly pleasant and helpful, leadership comes from the top. I have only one issue with this location, I was promised a 10x10 storage and was given a 10x15 storage at a higher cost, and this was done by canceling my reservation and creating a new one. The rate I reserved should have been honored regardless of availability.

AYEN BIOR | Premières impressionsI want to say the in my previous business with u-haul I never experienced such terrible customer service, I want to elaborate about it, wondering whether or not are you going to take actions, I hope you do, when I rented this unit I had to put my cc on file because I had to go out of town, when I came back I went to the location on 1501 S Capitol SE DC, I asked a lady in customer service how you cancel of services policy worked, she said: "all you gotta do is empty the unit before the due date and that's it" and I did exactly that way. Worth to mention that in my previous business with u-haul I paid cash so this time was a new experience, on the due date I noticed I was charged from u-haul and I called to see what happened, the man that picked up my call which by the way never presented properly with a name or employee number with a very rough and aggressive attitude said when I questioned him about the charge: did you cancel the unit? I did, did you leave the unit locked? No, the pad lock is mine why should I leave it, no you did not cancel because the unit still active, he said, it upset me and I said well you should train your people properly because I came and asked how to cancel of services policy work and this lady said... This man needs to go through customer service training again, he said: am gonna send someone to make sure the unit is empty and unlocked and hung up on me. I came back to 1501 S capitol st SE DC after I called my bank to freeze any activity from u-haul in my bank account, and this sweet young lady, a manager, took care of me as any professional business representative would and "fixed" my situation, now everything seems okay, I am just waiting to get my hard earned money back. The 2 hours I spend over the phone calling my bank and u-haul is over, i never was able to address this situation over the phone because nobody ever answered in the complains department my call, I tried a different line for reserve, make a payment or continue services with u-haul and the call was answered within seconds by Marjorie, she wasn't able to help for obvious reason, I needed to talk to complains and no services, I just hope nobody in the future experiences what I did in the future. Gracias!

Not only that, but when I called U-Haul to report the damage, they told me several customers in my unit had previously had water damage, which was not disclosed to me before moving my furniture in.

I specifically asked for a walk in storage due to storing of furniture, but I received a stack storage. We had to manually lift our heavy furniture in the air to place into space. I did not go back to customer service to correct the mistake because checking in was horrific. They ladies were on their cellphones, they did not look or act professionally welcoming. When they finally assisted me it took at least 30 mins or more to set us up for service. I was very confused on how long it was taking when I had already made the reservations by phone. I continued to be professional hoping it would help quickly with my processing in. I moved my things out of this facility storage less than 30days later. There is a very high need for training in customer service at this location.

Personnel encountered around the premises were usually nicer and friendlier. #6. The continuing irritation with management was the frequent breakdown of the elevator nearest the vehicle ramp. The real reason I left though is the frequent increases in rent. I considered moving to a smaller unit in your facility, but they are too difficult to get in and out of given my age. Instead, I moved to a unit in baltimore near my daughter, 5'w, 5'deep 10' high. entry by a regular sized door. #6 I would point out the rent is high and increases frequently..

If a car comes you may have to leave the area. The alarm sounds each time I open my unit. Once I walked and found a female employee who came and looked around and said it was ok.

Give that girl a raise! only reason not five stars is because i did have to wait in line for longer than I would have liked.

Each time, I could not reach the local office, and was sent to the national hotline. They would tell me they had no power to do anything, but they would send a note to the local manager, and he said he would call me back the next day. He never called back, and I was charged for the entire month despite moving out 1 day into that month's contract. I was out of town leading to the move out and could not personally go into the local office, so the fact that I could not reach it beforehand by phone is inexcusable, and resulted me paying an extra $200 that I should neve have had too. I hope Uhaul actually takes this seriously and refunds me for that last month, because it is entirely the fault of the local and national staff that I had this charge and would never recommend their service to anyone.

The amount of paperwork needed to rent a unit was ridiculous. Three phone numbers and two addresses? Really? Not to mention everything I filled out online didn't get transferred so the poor GM had to ask me and type everything in again. So inefficient. Lastly, the website advertises a free lock. It is $9.99, which definitely isn't free. The price is good, I just dislike false advertising. Overall, I'd use again. The building was clean, odor free, and seems secure. I did appreciate that each individual unit is alarmed and that there were plenty of carts.

When I went into the office to close out my account, only one employee was wearing a mask. One of the women behind the helping customers didn't even seen to have a mask nearby. Three men wearing U-Haul shirts also came in while I was there, and they all had their masks around their chin and did not cover their faces the entire time they were in the building. In addition, two people ahead of me in line weren't wearing masks either, and no staff member asked them to put one on. As I'm sure you know, it is against the law in DC not to wear in public during the COVID-19 pandemic. The fact that the staff chose not to be respectful to the health of clients--including clients like me who are pregnant and therefore in a riskier group--is highly unprofessional. It is for that reason I will not recommend this facility to others. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this.

When I got to my unit I was not only furious to see the small space but furious with the unit itself. In my spot, there is a large pillar on the side which has taken up a good chunk of space. I am paying almost $200 and I wasn't even given a space that was entirely empty - don't understand that logic. I do not plan to overstay my original agreement and will be moving out my belongings after the 2 months I originally signed for. I will look for another storage facility in the surrounding area next time. To be given such a ridiculous space after being assured that it would be sufficient enough only to find out that it has a large pillar taking up valuable space is astonishing.
