The store was very busy when we got there. First there was one employee behind the counter, and then another came in. The one that had been solo for a few minutes handled business, but she seemed pretty stressed. The gentlemen that came in helped us, and he was really awesome. There wasn't a moving van available, so he asked a few questions about what we were planning so that he could try to find something that would work. He walked me out to the pull behind trailers and found the last 6x12 trailer they had on the lot. He was able to get us set up with the rental, and he hooked it up for us. The employee handling returns was fantastic as well, and helped to get the trailer in the right spot and unhooked from the vehicle quickly. Overall, we had a great experience, and would recommend this location to anyone.

I had an appointment at 8:30 for a hitch installation. The hitch installer had been at work, but had left the location and did not return until 9:00. I made a point to meet my appointment time and I wish UHaul had done the same. Otherwise everything was fine and the bathroom was very nice and well maintained (not often the case!).

I was originally supposed to pickup a 20 ft at a different location in Tuscaloosa. They no showed, but the online rep got it solved within. 20 min and moved my reservation over quickly. Sadly, I had to get a 24ft but the online rep was very helpful.

First off I scheduled an appointment my wife took off work and took her vehicle to U-Haul location in Tuscaloosa. Upon arrival they asked her if she had appointment and she said yes I'm here for an installation. The lady looked at her like she was crazy and said I'm sorry do what and my wife says yes we have an appointment, the lady told her that she was sorry that she sees our appointment in the computer but there were no installation supposed to be scheduled on a Thursday and if there was no one there whatsoever, they could do the installation so we had to take it back up there Saturday morning after picking up my vehicle and driving it home. All of the lights on my dash came on I have a 2022 Honda pilot the back up sensors Lights on the dash are saying malfunction and the lane departure is saying malfunction overall turbo experience still trying to get U-Haul to look at it and make sure that nothing is messed up on the wiring

I have rented a small truck twice in 2 weeks, I have turned the trucks back in on time at the designated place and have left more fuel in them then when I picked them up. Both times you have added $3 and $4 charges to my card with no explanation. I asked during my second rental and the employee could not give me an explanation. I paid the rental price your employee quoted me, then had additional unauthorized charges added to my card. This is taking advantage of your paying costumer! This is unacceptable and I will never use your company again!

When I rented the truck, the paperwork stated 1/4 tank in the vehicle. The customer service rep stated that was incorrect, which I did confirm that it had 1/8 tank. On my quote, it had a $20 charge for fuel, but the service rep said I would get that back if I returned the truck back with 1/4 tank. I did return the truck with 1/4 tank, but it took $24 to fill tank to 1/4 and then I only got a $19,5 credit. I feel this is not a good way of doing business when it was stated incorrect in the first place. I don't hold this against the service rep as she was up front and honest about the situation, but she was unable to adjust as it was put in the system incorrect before I rented the truck.

I had mobile pickup at 8:30. I called the number for uhaul the prior day to make sure the truck would be there. I was assured it would be. I got there, had to wait for a person, had to reschedule my movers who were luckily able to start later. Truck smelled like cigarettes and had something sticky in it

Robin was the absolutely best in Tuscaloosa. She left no stone unturned. She was committed to help all her customers. I can't say enough good things about her. After the First Gentlemen who opened was mean and curt with the customers, Robin was a breath of fresh air. We came in on July 26th 2023 at 7 AM. Although we had a reservation, the gentlemen told us he didn't have a truck or a storage unit. He didn't even look for it. He sent us away. Robin found it and got us squared away with a smile. We will come back! Two students at UA do we would've been lost without her. Thanks again!!

I had a nightmare of a time trying to rent a storage unit, I had issues accessing my unit during normal business hours due to gates being closed. Every time I needed an employee for assistance, I had to wait 10+ minutes. The parking lot is terrible and inaccessible. The manager was incredibly rude the two times I interacted with him, including one time where I was trying to solve an ADA issue. The only reason this gets two stars is because the non-manager employee were kind and generally helpful.

Staff was very helpful. Only issue was our reservation said we had a first floor storage unit. When we arrived, all that was available was second floor. And stairs to second floor units are portable stairs. Not ideal with bed and mattress.

Reserved a climate controlled unit online days prior to the move. Arrived that next morning early at the facility, I was also renting a 16' truck and needed a unit to store items and I only had one day to do it in. The facility representative told me that I could not get or be assigned a unit until I had items ready to put in the unit. This didn't make any sense to me but I just let it go and completed the rental got the keys and went outside. She had given me the wrong size truck keys were to the largest truck on the lot instead of a 12'. Went back in to argue that, which was another waste of time and a big deal getting her to understand that. Finally left the building over an hour behind schedule. Went back to the store with the first load and was given a unit with a lock already on it. Went back to desk and was given another unit with a lock on it. Went back and was given a unit outside that was 1/2 the size I reserved. Went back and they told me that all other units were already rented and that I should have reserved it that morning because they had just rented the last 2 they had available. After searching and searching they gave me a unit outside that was much smaller than I reserved and not climate controlled and not in the promotion and rent was much higher than I had reserved. Was supposed to also get a free lock which they would not honor because it was no longer a online Reservation. Barely got her things out on time and then had to unload in the dark trying to fit her things into the much smaller space. Rude employees and management. Never again! Now they are not refunding my rental fees after closing out and emptying the unit. Absolutely the worst and I have used many storage facilities-NEVER AGAIN!!!!

I was probably going there at the wrong times. Always had a 15-20 minutes wait and felt like my business was a bother. The mgr overheard the interaction with me and the customer service team member and stopped what he was doing to assist me. He was very helpful At this point, I was so upset that I decided to move out sooner. Afterwards, I reflected and could see that I could have been a little more patient and that they were short staff even with two CS working the front desks.

The main problem with this facility is that inside storage units are too small and access is very inconvenient. My email gave me a price of $74 and the receipt I was given said $119. The renewal notice also said $119. I did add insurance, but it was certainly not $43 per month. The size of these units is barely worth $74. They are certainly not worth $119. The halls are too narrow, so you can't get some furniture into the unit. Access to the unit in one way in/one way out. If someone else is loading/unloading, you can't get anything in/out except a few boxes and small items while front door is blocked. To make that more inconvenient, if you are parked at the front door with a trailer or U-haul, you are blocking or being blocked by the U-haul drop off area. Perhaps the purpose of these inside units is boxes and small items only, but that should have been made clear on the website when the unit was offered. Thankfully this unit was free with the rental of a truck. I would not have paid for this unit, which is why I moved out before the next months fee was due.

Couldn't get to staff. I realize they were overwhelmed, but I was charged for an extra month, because we couldn't get someone at the counter to tell them we vacated the unit. We spoke to someone on site, and they said they would take care of it, but we were still charged. Realized we could cancel online and cancelled the unit. It really didn't seem like staff were prepared for the business that they had.

I could only reach a call center was never able to get the actual location on the phone. I was supposed to receive a call to schedule drop off and never did. Had to drive to actual location and when I arrived they said they had no boxes available. The lady there resolves the issue for me. However, there was no connectivity between the general call centers and the actual location.

I would recommend based on convenience with caveats. The storage hours are until 10pm but you can never get in through the front gate until 10pm which is exactly where our unit was. Incredibly inconvenient to have to go and use the side door opposite end of the facility for anything after 7pm. We asked if there was a pest problem when we moved in and told no, but the dead belly up cockroaches everywhere was a little concerning. If I had any other choice for storage I would not have been there. I appreciate that they were dead, but for the number of people there, one should be able to find the time to sweep or vacuum them daily. People are nice and helpful but the overall facility is in desperate need of a good cleaning and overhaul

I was really aggravated that I had to pay an additional fee to access the storage after outside of office hours although throughout the facility it was posted access hours of 5a-10p. This definitely needs to be updated because it's inconsistent and feels like an underhanded way to just get additional money from renters who may need to access storage before or after standard business hours.

From beginning to end worst experience I have ever had. If the first month had not been free and I had been able to find something elsewhere I would have been done!! Rented a truck online with mobile check in that did not work. A representative who lied about procedures, costing me valuable time, so much so that I almost had to extend my truck rental, wrong size unit reserved, then unavailable unit reserved, then wrong size unit reserved again and then finally the found a unit that I had to make work. Rushed to throw everything in the unit, so I did not have time to replace the 4 gallons of gas used to then be charged $5/per gallon. When the current price is $2,88/per gallon. On and then my reserved unit went from $89,99 climate controlled to $109 not climate controlled. I'm done. Enjoy the money you have already received because there will not be any more coming from me.

This comment is not directed towards the local staff and facilities. When they tell you online that you're getting a free months storage it sounds great. I drove 14 hrs and 706 miles only to find out i had an above ground unit accessible only by rolling stairs. How do you carry dressers and other large items up rolling stairs. Other than this (which i heard others complaining about also) everything was om.

Hello, We have used your facility for the past three years and have been happy up until this year. My son moved in after office hours and found a full bedroom set in his storage unit. The bedroom set is still in the unit and hopefully it will be inspected prior to someone else moving in, as it took away much of the storage space available to my son. He was leaving to return home early the next day, so he wasn't able to contact anyone prior to moving his things in to have the situation remedied. He also discovered a very large dead rodent dangling from the wire mesh on top of his unit. We have also always been given the first month (May) of storage rental for free, as my son is a college student. I contacted your establishment several times requesting reimbursement for the first month and was denied. I'm not sure why so much has changed over the past couple of years, but we certainly were not happy with our most recent experience.

What's not to like? As Yogi Berra once said, "nobody goes there any more; it's too crowded." Seriously, the only problem with this place is its popularity. The staff are helpful and friendly. It's clean. Easily accessible. The automatic lighting always works. I set up the storage space rental on line in just a fee minutes at the end of my daughter's freshman year at Bama. She moved her stuff in. The 24-hour access always worked. When it came time to move her stuff out, there were adequate carts and access. All her belongings were clean and intact. No signs of insect or rodent activity. All good. We'll be back!

This storage unit was supposed to be climate controlled but this was not the case as there was obviously some kind of leak (because there wasn't a proper ceiling above the unit) causing water damage and mold to form on all of my furniture within the short time I had it stored here. The storage facility had to know about this because all the wood around my unit was also ruined, but they never notified me of such and I only found out as I was moving out. There was also a rat problem in the facility and I was again not informed of this; the staff's response was to drop a rat trap into the unit from above (since there's not a ceiling) which cracked a piece of my furniture. There were rat droppings throughout the unit. Because of the poor conditions of the unit/facility, I had to throw out everything since it was ruined- such a waste of money. Moreover, I could never reach the facility on the phone. Lastly, the majority of the storage units are off the ground level and can only be accessed by a set of wheeling stairs- such a hassle to move stuff in/out of. I can not stress enough not to get a storage unit here- horrible experience

Customer service was terrible. An employee literally looked at me and said "what do you want" while waiting in line. The lack of professionalism was laughable. The facility and units are the perfect example of false advertising. The location itself was disgusting. No lock was included in my unit as it should have been. A two story storage facility, more like bunk bed storage units. I was also told mine would be ground level, it's in the air. I will never do business with uhaul again after my belongings temporary stay here.

said that they had more reservations than units, although i reserved it over a month ago, had to keep insisting for them to actually give me a unit because it was too late to go somewhere else. code and card did not work or let me into the facility, the assigned unit had other people’s belongings and two locks on it. they had to assign me a new unit which took forever. staff not helpful. very disorganized, will not be using this service ever again.

The entire time we had the unit, the door was severely damaged that we needed a pry bar to open it. We were promise the door would be replaced but never was. I asked for a discount rate on the unit but my request never was acted on. So with that said my experience was a disaster. I hope these comments are reviewed and acted on by your district managers.

My only complaint is that we were charged when it was supposed to be free for a month. After I brought this to the staffs attention it was reimbursed. However, we were locked out of our unit for nonpayment. The problem was corrected by the manager. This complaint is being posted so you know if you have a problem just talk to the staff. They are great!

I am deeply disappointed and appalled by the treatment and lack of customer service by your staff at the Skyland location. The employee was snippy and very short with me throughout my checkin process and was extremely bothered that she had to show me and my son how to get to the available units so we could see which unit to rent. We had to trample through a repair garage with tools, boxes, fans and crap all over as well as a car the repair guy was working on. It wasn't until the very end of the process, when I was paying for the unit, I had asked for her name, which she hesitated in answering that she decided to be nice. I am in the customer service business and I would never treat a customer the way she treated me and this transaction. She does not represent UHAUL company well and in my opinion she shouldn't be working in customer service.

Mensa did a great job! There were too many reservations & not enough units. I reluctantly took a more expensive unit. He took time to show me around and gave me 1 month free for my time and trouble.

It was unclear that the second story unit required steps vs a lift of some sort. All worked out, but it would be helpful to know about the stairs in advance.

Our issue was that we reserved a large unit 6 months ahead of time, and arrived and our large unit was sold to someone else. The point of a reservation is to hold what you asked for!

I placed my reservation at the end of August for a December 15th rental. upon arrival, we waited 30 minutes in line and the size we rented was no longer available even though I reserved months ahead!!

Overall positive, except: 1) the staff doesn't answer the phone timely and 2) the parking lot is crowded with trucks & trailers -- makes it hard to get to the loading dock. I would rent there again.

It was not clear online that my storage unit was upstairs with a portable metal staircase. We had large furniture so it did not work. Also, they lost my reservation for a 16x20 and offered me 2 8x8.

Storage unit was on a second level that could only be accessed by a rolling ladder. It took 2 more trips back to the location to get my refund. Understaffed, and wasted a couple hours of my day.
