Katherine Burks | Premières impressionsAlthough the facility itself was pleasant, the wait time was ridiculous! Twice I was there w-a-i-t-I-n-g for roughly 1 1/2 hrs just to be waited on. My initial contract had so many mistakes and with the amount of time it took to resolve them, the manager graciously gave me the first month rent for free. There was also some frustration with the whole key card access to the elevator. Having to often go back outside to re-swipe and the call button not working. In addition, I was told I could make my monthly payment via the app. The app wasn't working, which resulted in a late fee, the inconvenience of having to go in and pay it. Then to go to the storage only to find the double lock still on it and having to go back to the office. It simply became frustrating. I am thankful for the Mgr and Ms. Dani (both at New Center, Detroit) who took the time to rectify my initial contract and to correct the wrong additional fee(s) made to the charge to my credit card. I am thankful that my time there is done as I didn't want to continue and it all remain stressful. Again, thxful for those who did help!

Manager of Detroit location canceled my order because of a scheduling error on uhauls behalf and then failed to un-cancel it for over a week. NINA BROWN | Premières impressionsAlthough I completed the online process, it was interrupted by an incompetent General Manager and his staff. I was set to move my belongings into the unit on January 15, 2024. Upon arrival, my code did not work and my access was denied. My moving helpers were paid by the hour and after several unsuccessful attempts, I went inside the store. The General Manager was present and assisted. He reviews my account only to discover that "a maintenance staff person" had cleared out by unit after I completed the online process on January 13, 2024, which include electronically signing a contract and paying the first month's rent. The General Manager then proceeds to ask for my emergency contact again so that he could reverse was apparently done. It's funny, I never received a move out communication after this so-called clear out had been completed. This is not my first encounter dealing with the incompetence by the General Manager. In December 2022, I moved out of an apartment and had store my apartment in a U-Box for a couple weeks until my apartment was ready. I was preparing to travel for the Christmas holidays and wanted to store a few items ahead of my travel. Upon arrival at the facility, I learn that my U-Box could not be located. It took nearly two hours to discover that they left my U-Box outside and by the date it was arctic weather, so my lock was frozen. It had to be cut open. These idiots left my U-Box in the elements for several weeks. I figured out that they it outside where I packed it. In the over 20 years of dealing with U-Haul in several states from Georgia, Washington, DC, and Maryland--I have never experienced such incompetence. And while they are willing to offer a free month and an apology, it just doesn't make up for the failure to do business in the manner that is U-Haul should be operating. I don't believe for one minute that a maintenance staff made that sort of error with a legal contract. Not one minute. The General Manager is simply in over his head. It is clear that he does not know how to operate this facility. The unfortunate circumstance is that Detroit city proper doesn't have the level of nationally known businesses in the city. This facility is one of two in the city proper. Detroit proper could use some good ole competition in the storage facility marketplace. I would love to see national brands such as Public Storage, Extra Space Storage and Cube Smart enter the Detroit city proper market (not the metro because those brands have locations in the suburbs). Detroit city has the infrastructure and the growing population for their to be fair competition and better offerings.

Lisa HuntBoth times I've visited this location I've dealt with someone specific who is the exact reason I won't return. While I don't have his name, I'm sure this isn't the first notice they've had about his person. There's a gentlemen who I generally see in the yard, moving vehicles and such, and has the absolute worst attitude. So bad that he has yelled (not exaggerating) at me on both visits. The first visit I chalked it up to having a bad day and gave him the benefit of the doubt. This trip, seeing as I received the exact same treatment from him, now has become a pattern of abuse from this employee. In typical bully fashion, once I was clear to him that I wasn't accepting of that behavior he immediately crumbled and lost his poor attitude. I treat others how I would like to be treated but I did not receive that from this employee. Specifically because of him I will go out of my way and pay extra money to a further location just so I don't have to deal with him again.

When rented the truck earlier in the day, I twice asked for clarification, and the U-Haul employee insisted that it would be clear via text… but then I still had questions later when moving in with no one there to help. The floor map never loaded for me and I didn't know where to find the physical map. The double scan in system was very confusing the first time, and I watched 2 other people struggle with it while I was there. An alarm was going off in the main floor elevator bay the entire time I was there. There was a container of rat poison and a small amount of dirty water in my unit when first opened + trash on the floor in the hallway. I felt super misled by a promotion where I thought I was getting my first month's storage fee waved because I'd booked a truck, but come to find out that the deal didn't apply to my use case… but they was a main reason why I'd chosen U-haul in the first place. Also had a terrible experience with the self trick return process. Came out exhausted and deeply disappointed with U-haul

I went into the office area at the facility to ask a question, and the person working just told me to do things on the app, while he was helping other customers. I said I could wait my turn because the app wasn't working, and he continued to mumble things that I couldn't hear. I asked him to speak up, and he sighed and continued his stream of mumbling. I walked out and asked the parking lot attendant for help, and he was as helpful as he could be for not knowing the full answers to my questions. I asked another employee for help, and he sighed and rolled his eyes before answering. When he did answer, he said it in a way that implied I'm just supposed to know these things. I understand the first of the month is exceptionally busy and you're probably short staffed, but when your staff that are there aren't interested in answering questions and tell me to use the broken app, it's incredibly frustrating.

They TOLD ME that they did not EMPTY OUT UNITS THEMSELVES. THAT WOULD BE UP TO THE RESIDENTS. However, when a unit I had (I had 3 units) was checked, it had been cleaned out (by them) and was re-rented (unbeknownst to me). Secondly, the place was A MESS during CONSTRUCTION. The elevators usage was atrocious and management was absent. Thirdly, they charged for even the minor things like THROWING OUT ITEMS. I WOULD NOT recommend this place. If this is a representative of U-HAUL, I would use another company, such as PENSKI.

The staff was nice so no complaints there. If the elevator wasn't so old it would be a 5 for me, but it's old and unreliable so I would not recommend in case anyone needs to access their unit, you may be out of luck. Those stairs to the 6th and 7th floors are horrible.

A couple times there was a cockroach in the 4th floor hallway. I was always worried people are would be in my stuff in the storage unit. Sometimes you find something in your unit that you realize you don't need and you have no place for it. Having to take it off site isn't always easy, especially if you picked up other things, and now you have to find a place to dump the item.

When my company first wanted to rent a unit long term, the owner went out of his way to make sure we had enough access cards and 24hrs access free for the first year. My first thought about 24hr access was - no need for that. But we needed after normal business hours plenty of times and it was well worth the money. Last day of rent I seemed out the owner to shake his hand and look him in the tonsay thanks for the great service.

I was there a lot, moving out of my facility over a five-week period, and they always tended to my needs as soon as possible and knew exactly what they were doing. It was super easy getting in and out of the facility and renting vehicles as well--which I did three times. The location--right off the Lodge Freeway--is also superb and easy to get to. I would highly recommend U-Haul to anyone who wants to use them for storage.

Ricky Hudson | Premières impressionsSome of the questions I answered were not exactly yes. I was engaged by the Baltimore-Detroit location for at least two years. Prior to the management changing, I would have said no to at least questions 1, 3, 4, 6. Prior, I was annoyed with Uhaul. For every couple of months, I kept receiving notices of an increase in storage unit fees. Until, I demanded to see my contract with the verbage justifying this reason. However, the last couple months I noticed after the change in management, I never received another notice. Also, I noticed the access to the building and security was upgraded. This was good. On the contrary, it would have been nice to have at least 24 hr. access, considering I had two units at the same time, in addition to a Ubox. If there is anything Uhaul can improve on, is offering discounts and benefits to customers who have multiple products/accounts, including time invested in services. I had three types of storages and rented all the vehicles within a 3-6 months spand. A little more TLC to your faithful customers is suggested. Also, when services or products are not avaliable, offering alternatives to accommodate customers is an area of need. Regardless if the facility is an independent franchise, it is still Uhaul. I experienced a few occasions a vehicle was not available. Or when I was inquiring about storages, there was no assistance in locating another facility when none were available. I had to leave the counter and go look for another. I ended up waiting until one came available. Getting a little more assistance with finding an available location or being referred to the general number was better than just being turned away. Last, it was great having consistent employees present. There were 3 men, who were my "go to" for assistance. They were the face of Baltimore-Detroit location. Otherwise, my experience overall not bad at all!

However, Mr Garrett & his Uhaul staff are truly the best I've ever worked with. They were very caring & accommodating to my needs even when I fell behind paying my unit fees. They really worked with me & offered me reasonable solutions unlike some storages companies who try to gouge ppl with late fees, etc. Again, I want thank you so much Mr Garrett Sr & Jr. I really appreciated your customer service and everything that you & your staff did for me. Later I was walked over the the check in/out system and instructed on how to use it. Lastly, I was walked to the elevator and shown how to properly operate that as well. The entire team made me feel confident in using the equipment and getting in and out after-hours in a safe manner. White glove service all around.

When I did see the space there was a huge rat trap inside which caused concern so I asked did they have rats in the place. I was told no but the traps are placed there as a preventative measure. I came 2 days later to move items inside only to be confronted by a huge RAT not mouse. I called to ask about refunding my money since I never occupied the space & was told no & was moved out of the system on 8/31/22. I've rented many trucks from this UHaul & have always had a great experience with the staff & facility until this. I'll continue to rent trucks from them but NEVER a storage unit from this place.

No one is there to answer questions. Backing up a u haul truck into a small space without any experience is beyond impossible, tried to ask for help and was denied. Uhaul unit of storage was smaller than asked for. I asked for 5×7 unit but when measured with a measuring tape it was a whole 2 feet off. It was a 5×5. The prices were much higher than the quotes online and the storage until prices were raised a month into using it. Very unhappy with my service will not use again.

All of my belongings have a thick layer of concrete dust and pebbles from construction contractors jackhammering through a brick wall. There were constant false alarms going off that were nerve-wrecking. I believe a 20 percent late fee is exorbitant. Finally, when renting a truck on move out day, the counter associate sat there eating Flaming Hot Cheetos while checking me out-red powder on hands, moving slowly, no sense of purpose, no eye contact. It was very poor customer service experience.

I finally had to call the main 1800 number , and explained that the place was holding my goods hostage. Thank you to Clarence Vincent & RT Williams , manager supervisors, for helping me get my goods out of storage I feel I should get at least a month fee back for sitting in traffic three times wasting fuel and having to leave and not able to get my belongings . Don't store your items here until there is a manager that actually does his jobs and can train their personnel appropriately to help customers

I was able to get in despite not having scissors, but you may want to inform people that they might want to bring scissors to their new units. Also: my space has a window which is crumbling from water damage along the lower sill. I am hoping to use my space to store books; if the water damage is ongoing this will quickly become unacceptable. Finally: the restroom area on my floor smells excessively of mold. Not the restroom itself, but the floor in the restroom alcove. It's disgusting.

So I had 3 units in total costing me $149 a month (which increased EVERY FEW MONTHS) in total. I emptied 2 units which only left one but was told because I left a few items in them, I would be charged the full price until I went back and emptied them completely. I returned to do that but found that one of the units had another person renting it. I was told they would remain empty/ unoccupied until I returned and "it was not their policy to empty units out". Obviously, this wasn't true. I was still charged the full price for three units for months, instead of just one unit which I wanted to keep. The manager was over this and kept the charges. This place is NOT RECOMMENDED by me even though they are the cheapest priced storage place around.

It was not explained during the reservation that you only have one elevator to use , and that you need to Purchase a lock for your unit. I ended up having to pay an extra $379 for my movers because of the time that it took me to get my Property to my unit. I will not and do not recommend your facility to anyone. And as a matter of fact I will never use this Facility again!!! Now that I have had that experience, the next time I Need a storage unit I will definitely purchase a ground unit. Get it together u-haul!!!

Knowing that I can not afford to come on weekdays with my demanding COVID workload at the hospital. I'm still being charged the price of the 5x8x10 for the 5x5x7. The original unit I was supposed to get, 7045, was occupied so they quickly found another unit very close, 7041, and an employee showed me where to go. When I came back downstairs the first young woman that helped me met me in the lobby to give me an updated copy of my contract which showed the reversal of unit 7045 and the addition of unit 7041. Great problem solving skills and attentive to me to not make me wait in line again to get my updated contract. Awesome. The facility was spotless and all of the security cameras and monitors, card swiping etc make me feel very confident that my belonging are secure.

There are plenty of moving dollies available free of charge to move your personal items back and forth between your locker and vehicle. I like that the units are climate controlled especially during the colder part of the year or summer time. Staff are very friendly and helpful and you can get all your packaging needs on site. That the facility also offers U-Haul equipment on site is a plus again very convenient.

Picked up uhaul truck 3/21 and the dark skin stocky guy made me walk all the way across the street to retrieve truck instead of him getting it like he suppose to and he didn't evaluate the truck nor the gas til I told him to. Gas was less that 3/8. When I went to return my storage card he seen me go in and out of office looking for staff and he stay in a uhaul truck textn. I walked up to the truck he was in and he just took the card and continued textn instead of taking me inside the building to get closing statement of storage. He was lazy and unprofessional. I will never use this facility again.

I never came to my storage because of fear of getting stuck. The facility itself is nice. The customers are always parked in the wrong area for loading where the uhaul trucks need to go. You have no way of asking them to move if they are upstairs. The staff always gets an attitude when you have an issue with the elevator and move really slow if you or people get stuck. It's never fully staffed. It's always one -two staff members. Wait time is always 20-40 mins. Imagine just being stuck and can't use the stairs! Do better.

True example; there was a situation of deliberate nuisance when checking out from my storage I waited in line for 8 minutes only to be told that I was standing in the wrong line,when in fact the U-Haul service employee knew why I was waiting and so did the services employee in the correct check out line because they were made aware of that fact that my storage would be no longer occupied and it was clean and that my lock was removed etc.. 8 minutes is a lot of time to waist plus another 15 to 20 minutes running back up to the third floor to take pictures of my storage room(with my phone) and coming back to the service line/ which somehow dramatically increased in customers 藍/that's not the last of it but my time can't be spent on what not to expect from a class of people in Detroit city.

Mine had expired because I was not aware as I was walking to my vehicle and I had to go back at the end and ask if this was ok or not to leave un verified. Xtra steps we dont all know Uhaul does digitally.

Overall, hard to call ahead for info, robots and dialtones. Hard to find clear information online. No way to reserve a time to move in, so we had to wait while they moved a bunch of stuff around. All of this added ups to unnecessary time (and cost) for everyone. Even our professional movers were upset by the process. But as far as having a box that stores things, it does that. Large reliable elevator and very convenient location. Nice staff.

I'm disabled and found it very displeasing that the staff was not willing to come to me on a few visits. My only other issue is brooms and dustpans should be available and a garage cans on the storage floor Now i can say when i broke a picture frame the elevator operator told me don't worry he would get the glass up . But it should be supplies available so we can clean up behind ourselves And i feel the pricing of the storage unit is priced to high . In my case i needed it while my house was being worked on when i got the unit i figured two months. i was approaching the fifth month and could not see me paying 114 a month because the house project had been put on hold because of the virus. I said all this to say the cost of storage should not cost over a hundred dollars for any unit Had the price been more cost affective i would of keep the unit longer . The company should consider long time storage should have a lower cost .

My moving guys reported a less-than-stellar move-in experience. The man driving the truck had to wait 45 minutes for someone to move a car out of the driveway in, and said he couldn't get in without it being moved. He had to wait 15-20 minutes for people to come up and down on the elevators to get them in and out of the units too. Perhaps you need more staff during this really busy time.

Robert Salter | Expérience généraleYou guys had me wait for 30 minutes after I got to the counter to get my unit for storage I contracted a moving company through U-Haul payments have been made to you for the movie they charge hourly you also kept me waiting at the point where I'm supposed to slow my furniture to the unit cuz the unit was closed 10 minutes on four separate trips this is cause me not to be able to get all my things in one day I have to go into another day of movie costing me more money not professional at all you guys are aware that the moving company that you contract it charges by the hour I'm at risk of having all my belongings gone I dealt with U-Haul because I wanted a professional organization responsible people I may as well have went to the liquor store and hide the neighborhood while while crackhead doping heroin addict opiate addicted you guys owe me some money on my move furthermore I was at threat of them keeping my furniture unless I paid $170 which had already been deducted from my card And I call in to get the storage unit it's called a reservation once I get to the counter it should not take a half an hour to give me the number of my storage unit and let me have access it's not take 10 minutes each time to actually get into the unit every trip I made every time I took a cart up I have to wait over 10 minutes for them to open the door how do you stay in business
