The first truck leaked gas and I had to wait for a second. The second truck had a very poor suspension and the engine had below standard power going up hill. The mileage per gallon on the unit was terrible.

We were charged for damage to the truck that we did not cause. I am disputing the claim and will not pay the charges. I reached out to the manager at the rental location and he was not helpful and would not provide evidence of the alleged damage. I have called the main U-haul office to register formal complaint. I really hope someone calls me back to resolve this mess. It feels like we have been scammed.

Hi there, My experience from start to finish was awful: 1. I got a call 3 days before my move from a rep who said the original truck I reserved, and pick-up and drop-off location all had to be changed; unless I wanted to move on Sunday or Monday vs. Saturday. That wasn't going to work because I'd already asked 7 friends to help with the process. 2. When I came to pick up at 9am, I stood in line for an hour. 3. When I got to the front at 10am, the owner said I needed to have picked up the truck at 7am after I asked the rep on the phone to 9am, now that I'd be picking up in SF vs. Mountain View. As a result, the 20 ft truck I reserved was no longer available and now I only have a 15 ft truck... 4. As a result, we had to make two trips vs. one which added cost with the increased miles and gas use. We started at 10am and didn't finish until 10pm, MUCH longer than it would have taken had we had the original 26 foot truck I reserved well in advance. 5. The truck was also returned with a full vs. half tank of gas that we started with. 6. There is a $30.22 charge that I do not recognize/wasn't included in the original breakdown (no explanation). The only way I would feel better about the situation is a credit, beyond the $50 that was already issued for changing my reservation for the extra time, cost and stress, this caused.

I needed to be in and out, winded Waiting in line for 30 minutes, and also waited another 15 minutes for truck. They didn’t go over truck damages, I didn’t have time to check the truck I was already late for appointment. When I finally had the chance to look, it was filthy. Dirt and cement inside cargo bay and dirt and gravel all over the ramp, and graffiti written all over the back of the truck. Talked to the U-Haul rep in my area told me not to worry.

It took 45 minutes to pick up my van, even when I booked with 24/7. They could not seem to locate the key to the van I booked. The location was understaffed and employees attentiveness to resolving the issue of finding the key was really poor. The employee helping me was not communicating that she was trying to re-book a new van, so I was left standing at the counter with no communication for a good 20-25 minutes. Lots of people in line behind me. Was really just a mess.

It took over an hour of waiting until I got the van I reserved. When I did get it, an extra mile was charged. Everyone who worked there was also exceptionally unfriendly. I will never do business with this location or uhaul again. There are plenty of other options.

I have an issue. We were supposed to get our u-haul truck at a location near our move-in place.We reserved it over 2.5 weeks prior. We were moved to another U-Haul location not once but twice. On the second move we were moved far from our new apartment which increased mileage costs. Would we be able to be reimbursed for some miles? This was a total inconvenience for us...

More people on shift. It took an hour and 15 minutes to get through the line to the counter for an 8 am appointment. When i got to the counter the booking was wrong and i was told i had to return the trailer to san francisco instead of eureka. The girl wasnt sure she could get the ok to change it. I had received confirmation several times on this booking before that day. She did get it approved. The guy in the yard was friendly and quick but set up the wiring so that it was going to drag on the ground. We had to tell him to change it. Then he noticed it.

My overall Experience was excellent. However, the wait at the bay shore location was very long - long line of customers - perhaps it was because there were only 2 agents initially at the counter. Customers who were only purchasing merchandise could benefit from a self serve kiosk like at most supermarkets.

The customer service (in fact the man we were working with who seemed to have ZERO knowledge of the facility and was INCREDIBLY rude said he was the manager, when my boyfriend and I asked to speak to the manager because he was so incompetent) was the worst I have ever experienced in my entire life. After his staff charged us with an insurance fee that was not even available on the vehicle we rented, he refused to reimburse us and told us it was our fault because we "did not look carefully enough at our contract" which we were not even GIVEN, and had to find in the glove compartment of our vehicle. This was all after waiting an hour for our vehicle we had reserved far in advance, then once we received our vehicle they said there was a technical problem with the vehicle and we needed another, which took even longer. The new vehicle had basically zero gas in the tank which we were unaware of because we were told it had 3/4 of a tank. He straight up laughed at us when we said we did not want to wait for the next day to get reimbursed for the incorrect charges cause it would only take "2-4 business days." It took much strength to maintain any level of patience with a man who claimed to be the manager and was extremely stressful for my boyfriend and I. I hope someone with more intelligence and responsibility at this Uhaul recognizes the MANAGERS incompetence and decides their customers deserve better. I will never be returning to this location and will think hard before I rent from Uhaul again.

I did not like how we had to walk around to look for our assigned vehicle ourselves. The location was big and the parking lot was huge, so it took almost 30 minutes to find our van.

This seems to be a popular spot for getting packing materials, hauling equipment, and truck rentals. I stood in line for 20 minutes before I could get my van rental processed, there were only 2 employees working the registers with a line of 15+ people and growing; this location really needs to figure out its staffing issues or Uhaul needs to start investing in this location a bit more to make sure that it can stay fully staffed and provide a better customer experience. I will say, though, that the employees are very helpful and friendly.

The Bayshore location is HORRIBLY under-staffed. I’ve never seen a line this long for any rental truck. It would’ve taken literally four hours to get to the front. I used the mobile app and even when I skipped to the front of the line it took 15 minutes to get someone’s attention and I pissed a bunch of people off since it looked like I cut the whole line.

We had made the reservation a wk in advance we were to pick up the 29foot truck on Thursday 6/13 in millbrae we received a call from the millbrae office that they would not have a truck that we would need to go to Mountain View we were told we’d get some extra mileage for the inconvenience we were lookin at a run around time if 90 minutes we then got a calling informing us that they did it have the size we needed to call we then were told of the truck at the San Francisco location we get there and of course they do not have one. They wanted to give a smaller truck which would not work the lovely young lady went out of her way we ended up with a 26 foot truck we were 1 1/2 hours behind schedule we’ve always used UHaul and never had such crappy service it was like no kne gave a damn

Switched my equipment 24 hours before pickup without asking... after over an hour on the phone finally got original equipment reserved. Yard staff was poor and rude —- took them another 45 mins to strip and connect a wire on the trailers wiring harness (not my vehicle) . Took 2 hours to pickup trailer. Should not hire high school dropouts to work at this facility.

I reserved a 9' cargo van at the Cambon location in San Francisco and when I got there it was closed without warning for no reason. There was a typed up sign on the door and that's all. I had to go an extra 7 miles and way out of where I was moving which you charged me for. I arrived at the Bayshore location and there was a long line. Took almost an hour and a half to get the whole process done. I was given my truck and went to go begin my move that was already extremely delayed and when I got home and opened the truck there was no Dolly. I called and reported it and was told it would be taken off of my bill but I was still billed. Terrible customer service.

Original pick up location was much closer to my house, however, Uhaul swapped my pickup location to the Bayshore location which is much further from my house. The location would not comp the additional miles. In addition, the line was almost 45 minutes long. The uhaul truck was not well maintained, it felt like the transmission was going to fall off, the parking brake was broken, and the truck died on us halfway and we needed to call roadside assistance, who took 30 minutes to answer the phone and almost 2 hours to get someone to us.

There was a screw in the driver side rear tire in the sidewall that I did not discover until halfway through my trip. It looked like it had been there a while. Since there are two tires on each side, it was hard to tell if it was flat as the other tire held it up.

It was the first time I've used this UHaul location and a gentleman (the owner/manager?) helped me locate the express check out and walked me through the van inspection. He was very helpful, which I appreciated. Likewise, the gentleman at the register was professional, and expedited the checkout process.

Front desk associates are incredibly slow. We ordered everything we needed online well in advance but we still had to wait in the checkout line upon arrival before we could get keys, which must have been a 30 minute wait. Only two staff members were behind the counter and having extraordinarily long conversations with customers about who knows what. What’s the point of doing everything online if we just had to wait 30 minutes?

I was originally assigned a van from Park Merced. 30 minutes before pickup I received a call that it was moved to Bayshore. Upon arriving onsite, my assigned van was no where to be found despite there being dozens of unused Van's. After getting help, we searched for nearly 15 minutes with no luck. I eventually got a new van, but received it nearly an hour after my original pickup time. Decent onsite service but terrible management of resources.

Overall I had a good experience, but it needs to be clearer how to check in/drop off trailers. I returned my 4x8 trailer two days before it was due, and asked the attendant if there was anything else I needed to do to check in, but he said I was done and he’d email me the receipt. So I was surprised to get a voicemail the day *after* the trailer was due telling me i hadn’t returned it yet and another family needed it. I called back immediately and was on hold for so long my phone ran out of minutes (mostly my fault for using the cheapest phone plan, but still a frustrating experience). When I finally spoke to someone I explained the situation and they cleared it up and emailed me the receipt. There was fortunately no erroneous late fee or anything like that. Anyway: mostly good experience with a slightly frustrating coda.

The actual sites were wonderful but it was very difficult to work with customer service on the phone. I was transferred a couple of times (each with a 15-20 minute wait), and there was some miscommunication/misinformation on a few of these phone calls. A more streamlined system would be helpful.

This isn’t the location I selected to pick up my Uhaul, it was significantly farther away. It took a long time to get my reservation even though I had completed the express check in. I waited a long time under the white tent to get my truck and as a female I was approached by several men (not employees) asking for work and one asking to “use me” for the evening.

Good morning, maybe a sign in different languages about being patient when standing on line. Because it takes time to help with handling each customer..I'm a very patient person when I have to wait to be taken care of..there some who are impatient. When I returned the truck, I wasn't aware that I didn't have to go inside.. so signs I think would help. The reason for me for the signs..is I heard someone complaining about having to wait too long and the person was complaining out load..which wasn't very nice..and the rep was very professional with a reply... may the Uhaul family have a very safe and blessed day.

The thing most frustrating to me was making the reservation online and doing the Express Check In, then going to the store, waiting in line for 30 minutes, only to get to the counter where the guy literally asked me every single question I had answered online, again! He asked if I wanted insurance, he asked what kind of car I was using to pull the little 5X7 open trailer with, he asked when I would be returning the trailer, he asked to see my driver's license, he asked for my credit card, literally every question and issue I had already taken the time to do online so I didn't HAVE to do it when I got to the store! When I asked him wasn't all that information already in the computer with my reservation, he told me "sometimes it shows up and sometimes not, but asking all the questions is job security, right?" I was PISSED and didn't answer. I don't give a shit about his job security, I give a shit about wasting my time repeating everything I already did online!

Let Me start bus saying the individual(s) that worked on my car was quite nice and friendly. That interaction was a good experience. Though I dropped the car off for a 7am for a tow-hitch installation appointment. The appointment was made 8 days prior with a down payment on a tow-hitch and a confirmation number. I received a call at 1pm from Andrew, different employee, asking if I was going to drop my car off today for my appointment! Seriously??? Work wasn't started until 1pm. I came back at 5pm only to get push back from a third and separate employee stating, "We don't make reservations at this U-Haul. Did someone call you and tell you to pick up the car?" Moments later, the same individual let me know the car would be ready in 30 mins...2 hours later...closing time...finally, an hour after closing. What do you know I’m locked inside the gates. More time trying to find someone that works there. It was a nightmare! All 1 day before traveling internationally and no car, even when the lady booking my reservation quoted half day turnaround so I can run my last min errands. 2nd bad experience, in a row, with U-Haul!

San Francisco location is a joke. Only one person was decent to me, the other employees at the return spot are jerks. Signage for truck return is not in a place you can see it when pulling in. I was directed to two different spots for the return by two different employees. The guys in the return bay seriously need some classes in customer service. It's also very unprofessional to have their friends hanging out playing loud music and driving crazy in the lot. Night and day from the professionalism at the Murrieta location.

The van I rented was completely empty and I was not told the vehicle needed gas. In fact no one went over any details of the vehicle - guy just left it running and got out. I had to immediately fill it with gas. When I returned it with 1/4 of a tank, they said it was 1/8. So unprofessional. When I went in and talked to the staff inside, after having to voice my frustration, they did give me the 1/4 tank allowance of $16.50. While this was nice, it does not make up for the empty gas tank and how I was late and inconvenienced.

I scheduled my reservation in advance and went through the online check-in prior to my arrival. It still took well over 20 minutes to go through processing paperwork, etc. In addition, the equipment was not ready and took about 45 minutes to get it all together. No organization at all!

This is referring to Bayshore. There are customers jumping or cutting in line and they (U-Haul cashier) know it but don’t say or do anything to prevent stop it! I wish they can do something about that. Some customers just don’t want to say or do anything For the sake of argument. Others than this the cashier that help did a very good job, and she’s very nice to me. Service outside: they hook it up and check everything making sure everything works like they should be.

Your company dose not know what customer service is. TEACH THEM!!! I set up a contract over the phone two weeks ahead of time, the day before I called and was told where to go to pick up the trailer. On my pick up day I called the location to verify all was set and I was advised they did not have any trailer for me after three hours they found one in San Francisco which was about a 80 mile drive from where I was staying. I was forced to travel 160 miles round trip to get the trailer it seemed that your associates that I spoke with either did not care or did not know where anything was. (not rude) If I had been advised that a trailer was not available early in the week I could have found other means to transport my items. When I arrived to my destination I walked into the Uhaul shop and found no one available to assist me in turning in the trailer. An employee from a business next door came and advised me that the clerk was not in and to just unhook the trailer and leave it by the curb. I returned at a later time . This survey is a joke. I am very sorry to say that I will NEVER do business with your company again and I will be very quick to advise my friends and associates of the night mere of doing business with Uhaul. ( EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED )

The side mirrors were FILTHY! Made for quite difficult lane changing and general awareness due to the struggle to see clearly. Takes one minute to do and makes a world of difference. I believe if you keep the windshield glass and mirrors clean people think the vehicle is cleaner because that’s what they’re looking at the world through. Worth doing for many reasons. And the woman that helped me get the vehicle (working in the u-haul office) was AWESOME! I recommend a pay raise and vacation for her.

The location was fine and the people who helped me were fine. Paying $40 for 1/8 of a tank of gas was an extortionist ripoff. Using the app to book my reservation and then, laughably, be expected to find my own truck in a lot that held 100 trucks basically showed me UHaul would love to get customers to provide their own customer service so you can increase your profit margins while decreasing quality of service, and the app’s functionality and utility need considerable work. I have rented from UHaul 15-20 times but based on those two latter factors, I don’t plan to use UHaul ever again.

Worst service at that location. They charged us $600 for a damage that already existed. They told us that it already existed. However nothing has been done to refund us. Look at the yelp review for that location and you will understand why. It has 200 reviews and an average of 2 stars. Pretty pathetic review rating. The manager doesn’t care to get back to us. He promised he will call us back to resolve the issue but never did on many occasions. If you want to improve the service, you need the revamp the operation and hire people that are courteous and are good with customer service and follow up on claims.

U-haul made us go to THREE different locations because they kept saying they would have the trailer and then did not. The communication between U-haul workers was horrible and no body knew where the trailers were. I reserved a trailer more than a week in advance and we ended up having to rent an open-face trailer (instead of the closed one we reserved). I am very disappointed with this service.

The truck I rented was leaking gas, #1 it was empty and when i went to get gas it was leaking case some one disconnected the hose from the gas nozzle inlet to the tank so about 3 gallons of gas was ok over the gas station floor.....when I went back to uhaul they said someone will get me another van, I was standing around and all the attendant did was talk to his colleague and when it came down 10 mins later, he said he's going on break and asked someone else to get it.....so I guess that's the customer service here....I'm not trying to get anybody fired but there should be training ( a lot of training )........

The 6’ x 12’ box trailer had brake issues which were discover 20 minutes into our 6 Day Rd. trip across the country. Compounding the issue is the fact that the equipment number on the trailer didn’t match the equipment number on our contract. Thankfully the staff at the Richmond U-Haul in California were able to correct the issue and provide us with a replacement trailer. The downside was I had to spend three hours in the rain moving the contents from one trailer to the other, Not the way I wanted to start my road trip… The replacement trailer had no issues and rode safely to Michigan where we dropped it off. I have used U-Haul many times in the past and this is the first negative experience. I appreciate their are mechanical failures with equipment. It will be great if U-Haul could compensate me for the lost time and hassle of having to change trailers, empty and reload, in the rain! Regards Adam

There needs to be improvement in the parking sitiation. I arrived around 10am on 3/29/19. The parking lot was full not one spot was available, fortunately I was getting a trailer and was able to park in that area. The parking area was full of cars that had picked up equipment and left their cars and trucks there for the day. There should be another area for people to park their cars when they are going to be left all day.

It took 1 hour to go up stairs and come back. Elevator is a big problem. Everytime I use, I had to wait half an hour. I will not use it again.

The average rating is because of the elevator, it should be stressed personally to all customers CLOSE ELEVATOR DOORS, that makes for a very long and costly day where you don't can't finish moving.
