Jerome M. | Expérience généraleThis is no reflection on the facility manager, Mr. GADSON. He did listen to our concerns. We had the largest unit in the facility and there was no lighting in the unit. We shared our concerns and he made his supervisor aware. Sad to say this has been a long ongoing standing problem at this facility. We had to bring our own lighting while there. In fact we complained to upper level management and left our contact information with no success of a return phone call. In this, we felt ignored. It stands to be said that an unit of this magnitude should have sufficient lighting. Upon our departure, Mr. GADSON tried to seek attempts for some source of lighting. We brought an industrial light and a long industrial extension cord, however there was no outlets in the area. Here we go again, for our final time, we had to bring multiple battery powered lighting. I challenge you to see this Unit D173 for yourselves. We believe this is the case for majority of the units at the Elmwood storage facility located on Elmwood Street. The facility is dated, at the same time, updates and improvements should have been made. Next time we'll ask to inspect the unit first.

When I arrived, I was informed that my rental needed to be returned by 3PM vs the next day at 9AM like I had reserved. Upon returning the rental, I was sent to a different location to return it because there was no mare room for it at this location.

I live very close (less than 1 mile) from 3 different Uhaul Stores but had to go 20 miles out of the way to pick up a 15ft Truck at the Elmwood Office although I reserved the truck 3 days before at the Two Notch Store less than a mile (.7) away. Round trip cost me 20 extra dollars due to charge of 0,99 cents a mile. I repeat I will never use UHAUL services in the future nor any of my friends or family. I am 65yo and have never been treated like I was a your service stores.

I should have been refunded the additional amount for the climate controlled unit since it never was air conditioned. When I went to move out the elevator was broken and I had to bring everything down. the stairs.

Silvestro S.Had excellent customer service. The gentlemen working helped me check lights and hitch up. My reservation was from Thursday 6:45-Saturday 5:45 but i only needed it for one day. When I came to return the trailer early there was a lot of commotion going on with multiple vehicles and people so I got the trailer as close as I could. He said thanks for trying my best and I asked him if I needed to check out but he said he had me covered. Because of all the stuff going on I didn't want to bother him asking about a refund for the early or a discount and he adjusted it for me without even asking. Thanks man. I hope this gets back to you. The world is shit but sometimes just being nice helps proves that there is still light on the world. Even if it's just $30.

One time our electric bill check was sent to you by accident. Even though the check was payable to "SCE&G" it was deposited on your end and it took us months to get a refund. I am giddy happy to be DONE with your company.

Sonia C. | Premières impressionsAfter almost four years at that facility I was run off for ALTERED entry and exit procedures. Sylvester Gadson started his campaign of harassment after I reported him to Kimberly Rubino for telling me that wearing a tank top on a 92 degree day at a storage facility was inappropriate. He also threatened Nicole, another staff member, for not making me follow his RIDICULOUS entry and exit procedures. On top of that he constantly spoke to me in a derogatory way every time we interacted all the way up until I left. His final act of TYRANNY was putting an eviction notice on my unit and adding a second lock denying my access. After it was understood that I had to go he wouldn't remove the extra lock from my unit to allow me to put my things in such an order that would allow a prompt exit until the day I had to move. I've had brain surgery which left me with epilepsy. I also have high blood pressure and asthma. HE KNOWS THIS. I also take medications for depression and anxiety. I am homeless because of my condition, he also knows this, yet he kept up the HARRASSMENT until he could find a way to evict me. I explained all of this to his manager Kevin Anderson and his response was that he stands by Sylvester's decision no matter how long I've been a tenant. So now I'm going to take my own action with the Better Business Bureau.
Stacey D. | Expérience généraleItems in the unit had mold, and a few things had to be thrown away, thought by paying for a climate controlled unit it would have prevented this issue. It was a bit warm and humid with temps above 80 on the thermostat. There was also a smell of moth balls present on the linens and mattress. I would recommend storage only for a short term solution.

Then found out that elevator was also out of service for over a week and I would have to use the stairs to move all of my items out! Very poor experience and no steps were take to try to assist with the situation.

I had to take the entire truck back to the store to get them to remove a lock that should have been taken care of. When i brought the truck back, the staff member did not seem apologetic or concerned at all. very disappointed in this location.

It was handled by suggestion of another truck from me. The truck I rented smelt so bad in the cab portion. Other than that the rental agent was very polite and professional and helped out with all my questions! He even stayed late for my return of the truck! He defiantly deserves recognition for handling himself professionally with the minor issues and not to mention with the homeless people trying to get into trucks during business hours!!! This hurts my soul that this city has to make this a day to day issue for this hard working guy.

Becky P.1) We had a lot of trouble checking in. Were told that there wasn't a unit available for us. LONG process. Eventually we got one, so all was well. The people on the phone definitely were not in sync with the people on site. There should be better communication so that customers are not misled. 2) Unit had a rat trap in it. YUCK! Maybe in the halls, but in the unit itself - right next to the mattresses etc. YUCK. Disgusting. Maybe that is standard practice - I don't know - but it was definitely not appealing. 3) We arrived (after a 10 hour drive) to get stuff out of our storage unit. We arrived at 8 pm, as the website said the access hours were until 10 pm. When we got there, it was locked. The attendant said the access closed at 8, despite the fact that there were signs posted ALL OVER the place (front door, gate, elevators, website, etc.) that said the hours were until 10. I think the guy just didn't want to stay that night. VERY VERY Frustrating as we had a very short window in which to do our work. Extremely inconvenient. It's fine if the hours are 8, but just post that onsite and online so people can plan accordingly. Very frustrating to arrive and not be able to get in. 4) Unit was supposed to be climate controlled, but it was definitely hotter inside than outside -- in South Carolina in the summer! Frustrating to pay more for a climate control unit and then have it be so hot inside.

john H.My truck had a low tire and an oil change light on. While these did not cause me problems with the rental, they made it difficult to see the milage when I went to return my truck after hours. I would say making sure these issues were taken care of prior to rentals would improve the experience.
Courtney M.Truck was in rough shape. The elevator wasn't working properly but an employee got that fixed for us. The hallways to get to our unit were extremely narrow and we had to end up carrying a sectional sofa. It is advertised as climate controlled but it was extremely hot in our section.

However, when I drove to my new rental unit, there were two (2) old/dirty campers and two old cars immediately in front of the unit. Also, just a security note: The side gate that is located near Building D, was left open and did not close the whole time I was in the office setting up my rental and/or when I was in and out of my unit. Other than those two (2) things, everything else is satisfactory. The Staff has always been very courteous and helpful every time I have visited for boxes, tape, and now the rental.

When my movers arrived to move me out, the elevator was not working and the only reply I received from mgmt was that they would have to request a work order. I was very dissatisfied that U-Haul would offer units on 2nd floor with inoperable elevators. I will not be using the Elmwood location again and will not recommend to anyone.

freddee a. | Expérience généraleThe facility was filthy and not well maintained. The drive up unit had rats. I literally found a rat that got stuck attempting to squeeze in the doorman died. There were rat feces on top of several of my boxes and storage containers. The in-door, supposed climate controlled unit was hot and not temperature controlled. Items I stored have heat damage-some beyond repair. The cost of the storage units I rented vs the actual service I received is ridiculous. Not only would I never recommend anyone use UHaul storage, I will caution anyone and everyone against it, unless they are prepared to throw away all of their stored items. Additionally, every time I have rented a truck from UHaul, it has been filthy. The most recent rental experience was especially horrible. My reservation was made through the customer service number. The representative assigned me to pick up from a "Stop & Shop" because I wanted to pick up the truck at 7AM. This is not a UHaul location, so, I was unable to scan and check out the vehicle. The owner of this location was rude and not at all helpful. While the location was supposed to open at 8/8:30AM he did not arrive until almost 9:30AM. I was clear that he did not want to do business with women and proceed to only respond to request when my father spoke. However, based on my other horrible UHaul experiences, I'm not at all surprised that this entity was selected as a UHaul dealer. I look forward to never having to use UHaul again.

We got there and no truck - the lady called around and found another place 5 miles away and got us a bigger truck from another facility- no one was there! Had to call First Lady back. To summarize we went to 3 places before we got a truck - that was way bigger than I felt comfortable driving- got us 2 hours behind schedule- not a good experience. Will not rent a truck again from uhaul

RAFAEL or Mariel C. | Expérience généraleOn May 22 I drove 3,5 hours from out of state and had a previously secured reservation for a 7,5 x 10 climate controlled storage unit at the Elmwood Avenue U-Haul storage facility. The initial unit I was provided was occupied. After another second floor unit was finally identified I found out the elevator was broken. It appeared that this was related to the fire alert feature of the elevator which continually beeped, had a flashing red light and kept the elevator on the first floor. I mentioned this to the office staff who told me this happens all the time (sounds like a safety/fire code issue to me). I was told my options were to carry my stuff upstairs or pay more money for the same size unit on the first floor. I requested they honor the pricing on my reservation due to this inconvenience and was told it was not their fault their elevator was not working and they refused (I never heard of a business not taking responsibility for not having basic functioning equipment that is integral to the service they provide). Due to the inconvenience I requested that they escalate this to the manager who was not on site at the time. She was called but refused to honor my pricing. While at the Elmwood Avenue location I attempted to call U-Haul customer service but didn't get through to a representative due to unacceptable hold times in excess of 30 minutes. This whole situation seemed like a classic bait and switch scenario and I decided to take my business elsewhere to a storage facility that actually cared about their customers. I spent in excess of 2,5 hours trying to work this out at the Elmwood Avenue U-Haul location which also included calling, securing and driving to a competing facility. This was a very bad experience which suggested that U-Haul does not care about my time or my business. This is particularly disappointing since I have 4 U-Haul equipment rentals between May and August. Based on this negative experience I would never use the Elmwood Avenue storage facility and would highly discourage anyone else from doing so.

The location is great so we kept our reservation, but if it wasn't for that we would have changed in order to have expanded hours...
