There's gotta be a faster way to take customers. I've been coming to this Uhaul for almost 10 years, and still have to input certain things that I've inputted many times before. It used to be saved in the system so when I showed up, I'd get my keys and go in under a minute. Yesterday, it took over 10 minutes to get to my truck. I was the only customer in the lobby. It was my 1st time back since the pandemic, so I understand there might be new systems, etc and I wasn't in a rush, so it wasn't a big deal. However, I will be renting again soon and will be in a rush then, so hopefully the process can go more smoothly. Time is money!ERIC P.

I moved from the middle of the US using a U-Haul truck, needed to store my things for a bit, before I could physically move and then needed to rent another U-Haul to get me to the beach in the middle of a snow storm! The staff was EXCELLENT because I felt like I was going to lose my mind but they calmed me down and I made it through!!! Now I am happily at the beach - thank you for ALL the help. If I ever need to store anything or need a U-Haul truck - I will definitely go back to this particular store. :)Patricia E.

Solid, clean space. Some mice problems, but that's to be expected in the city. Very easy to use the access system, and was glad to find out (the hard way!) that if you're not logged in and open your unit, an alarm goes off!) #4. I marked No because the office was usually understaffed and the office personnel were not very friendly. Personnel encountered around the premises were usually nicer and friendlier. #6. The continuing irritation with management was the frequent breakdown of the elevator nearest the vehicle ramp. The real reason I left though is the frequent increases in rent. I considered moving to a smaller unit in your facility, but they are too difficult to get in and out of given my age. Instead, I moved to a unit in baltimore near my daughter, 5'w, 5'deep 10' high. entry by a regular sized door. #6 I would point out the rent is high and increases frequently..MARIAN C. | Expérience générale

The actual location is great however the staff is ghetto unprofessional and doesn't want to work. The young man got an attitude when I asked a basic question. I returned the rental on time and under the mileage and was charged doubled the price. I called to address this concern and was accused of not returning the rental however they did say the key was returned which made no since. After they checked the lot again the van was located and they adjusted the bill. Just an overall ghetto awful experience. However the location is great! There is literally no parking. It is extremely inconvenient to get in and out of area. If someone is using the ramp to load or unload, the only option is to wait. If a car comes you may have to leave the area. The alarm sounds each time I open my unit. I have been using moving companies for a very long time so my family and I decided to move ourselves and choose U-Haul at 1501 S Capitol St. SW in Washington, DC. The facility was very clean and the associates were very professional, kind and provided excellent customer service. While I was on the road, I called them twice for I had questions and they picked up the phone (unlike other companies) and provided me with a response very quickly. Because of their excellent customer service, I will be renting again and will recommend friends and family to this location. Demetrius was extremely professional and courteous, it was a pleasure to work qothI was unsure if I was in the right place and lady behind the counter with pants hanging past her waist replied "nah" implying that I ask a bad question. Then another gentleman behind the counter that had very sloppy hair and beard to be working at a professional business in my opinion, then responded in agreement with the lady that fitst spoke to me. Cashier mentioned the truck I rented had a full tank of gas in it and proceeded to highlight my paper to show the tank as full. When I got to the car the gas gauge had a slight distance from the â€œFâ€. The tank was not full but I had to mark the tank as full on the check in because the cashier had it marked as full on the paper. This is the second time in this location where the staff is downright disrespectful and very unprofessional. I made a 10:30 am cargo van reservation online, Dec. 1st and received a confirmation that same day. I arrived at this location, tried to use my mobile app to check out the van for my reservation, and was told to see an attendant inside at the desk something I tried avoiding because of a previous interaction. I went inside to the desk; there were 5 employees behind the counter goofing off and arguing with each other--no one acknowledged I was standing at the counter. I said, excuse me, I am trying to take out the van I reserved for my move. They all turned to look at me as if I was doing something wrong by speaking up. The woman who started begrudgingly helping me was very unprofessional. She said she was not scheduled to come into 11 am and that she just walked in the door and sat down (most were doing the same), lounging in the chairs, women with their legs apart, and like they were in front of their televisions at home--so disrespectful and disgusting. If she didn't start work until a specific time, she should have kept that to herself; I'm the customer. I asked if I could have the manager's name, and the same woman begrudgingly working with me said, I am; Is there a problem? I said, of course, and explained that I had reserved a van for a move, etc. She said, yeah, all of our vans are out. I mentioned my reservation again, and she said the vans were all out. I inquired as to why my reservation was made if you all did not have enough equipment to rent; she said because we can't tell people when to bring the vans back. Again, so disrespectable, especially coming from a manager. When someone rents a truck for a move, everything has to line up; first, having the truck, I reserved to pick up on time because moving in and out of buildings in DC and for the most part anywhere else, you need to schedule and reserve elevators and loading docks for each location. Of course, it was visible they could careless, there was no an apology. It was almost like they relished in my situation. I wish I could have had a friend video record this entire exchange because it was so abhorrent, to say the least. I have rented trucks and bought products from U-Haul many times and was never treated like I was on Saturday. Also, before reserving the truck, I looked at a few storages units, and that interaction was just as bad; I signed up with Public Storage across the street and down a few blocks because I did not want to deal with the rudeness, unprofessional attitude from your employees. It was all the same faces on Saturday as my previous visit. An all-around horrible experience. I guess these are the only people that apply for these jobs, so customers have to deal with it or go somewhere else; so disappointing.David S.
The staff is not very friendly. So I'm still waiting on my final receipt to be emailed . I've already inquired about this twice. Unfortunately the only reason that we use this location is because it's less than a mile from our house and we like to save on mileage if we need to rent one of the vehicles but the staff most definitely needs a class in customer service.JAZESA R.
I was verbally assaulted on the lot and in the store by an employee named Bruce at South Capitol Street. I called the police because the Manager Nikita Settles had trouble restraining him. The D.C. police officer waited until I could leave your store safely. Nikita Daniels told me her General Manager Amit Thanki would do nothing because she has tried to use progressive discipline in the past . I called his cell phone at 301 648 3463 and got no reply. Instructions on accessing the storage area were vague "here's a plan, this is your unit, that way". I had booked a first floor and got a third floor. the app check in was really hard to use, slow, and required identify verification that i was not prepared for (as in was not carrying a passport and i didn't really want to bother another person to do the verification). the van had clearly been smoked in and that was pretty gross. the return process was much easier than the pickup. the pickup took 45 minutes, which totally cut into the reserved rental period. i ordered furniture pads but they were not in the van and i was still charged for them even though we made due without.Katherine S.

I was guaranteed to be able to pick my truck up at 6am using my phone, but the location had not prepared the truck for me. Luckily, there were people in the office earlier than it opened who were able to help me, but it was stressful and I had to wave them down to get access to my truck. Ultimately the employees were very helpful and nice but I am disappointed that my truck was not ready as guaranteed, when I had movers arriving at my home at 7am.BRENNAN S.

The truck smelled like cigarette smoke, the driver's door only shut when slammed, there was an engine light on, and the truck seemed stuck in a low gear the whole time. The truck was parked in a very tight indoor space and there was no help to pick up rented equipment or navigate getting the truck out. I signed up for mobile check out, but had to go inside and re-establish the entire agreement, provide my DL again, and provide THREE contact numbers. The staff were rude and unhelpful. They provided minimal return information -- three of us returning at 5:30 pm helped each other figure out how to return in the app, where to park, and where the key box was. This could be a VERY easy experience if you use the app and barcodes on vehicle windows (like Zipcar) to skip the unhelpful agents and provide clear after hours return instructions.KARLA D.

I cannot remember the name of the woman who helped me (black woman with braids and red highlights, said she was the manager of the storage part of the experience, i think her name was four letters long), but she was awesome. super friendly, helpful, fast and was able to remember me when I came back later in the day to take care of an issue. she was also helping out all the junior staff around her like a boss.
