I rented a van and purchased collision protection. The roof wasn't insured in the protection. I small scratch was found on the roof and I was charged an additional 330 $. This is outrageous as it was a small scratch. The owner is taking advantage of clients and he knows that he is doing this. I feel there should be better evaluation of damage other than a minimum charge for a scratch on the roof of 330 $. I will never recommend this location unless this matter is rectified to a fare charge. The staff are very polite and I feel it's the owner that is making these unrealistic charges.PATRICK P.

Rented my trailer to another customer. Then had to call the customer to return the trailer which took 4 hrs, Which wasted my day and the compensation was only 50 $. Meanwhile I had caught the ferry from Nanaimo to Vancouver. So they were lucky the customer came and returned the trailer.DAKOTA G.
The trucks were not even close to being maintained nor in safe working condition. In addition to other deficiencies, the side view mirrors were missing screws and not tightened causing them to constantly swing back and forth completely eliminating the ability to see beside/behind the truck. The seatbelts also didn't properly tighten across my shoulder. It was a death trap. I communicated this to the agents and requested to speak with a manager, but was the manager was unable to speak with me in a timely manner to resolve these issues. The fact that you charged me for a truck (or even rented it) that wasn't maintained to minimum security/operating conditions is appalling.JEFFREY A.

The fellow that connected the trailer to my vehicle was not very helpful. I needed to install a 2â€ ball purchased from U Haul. He left it for me to do. I asked him to bring a wrench, which he did, but wouldn't help me do it.BRUCE L.

The only issue was, when I got my vehicle back, the e-brake was on, and I could really smell burning brakes, so obviously the installer, or employee drove the vehicle from wherever it was installed around into the front with the E-brake on. I hope my brakes aren't destroyed. Oh well. Besides that, excellent service, and as far as I know, a great installation.Andy C.

I had so many issues getting my storage unit, I had booked one to be on the lower floor and checked in when I went to pick up a U-Haul. Then arrived to find out they had changed my storage locker only by going and finding the unit they assigned me locked. I went to the front and asked what was happening and they had changed me to unit on the upper level after specifically requesting and booking a lower unit level and paying more for that lower unit then an upper level unit. As majority of my items weighed over 200 pounds I didn't want to be lugging it up stairs for the move. I went to the front and asked why my unit was changed and requested that it be changed to a lower level. The staff I was dealing with seemed annoyed and told me I could have a different unit but have to pay an extra 80 dollars a month for it. I asked to make sure it was on the lower level and she said it was. When I went to load my stuff it in turns out the unit was STILL on the upper level. So now not only am I paying 200 dollars a month for a crappy unit I had to lug every item up the stairs and run around for an hour trying to figure out what was happening with my unit. Very very unimpressed with U-Haul and will be looking to move my storage elsewhere as soon as possible. If someone held a gun to my head and told me I had to say something negative about this experience, ... the only glitch I could possibly come up with is that when we changed to having my son pay for the unit, the contact info didn't change. It's a massive location that only serves uhaul which is good. I rated the location itself only as average because there are NO signs ANYWHERE on where to go if you're looking to pick up your truck (and if there's a different line for those that have already electronically signed in) so you're stuck just waiting in the general cashier-type line which you shouldn't have to do if you've already signed in.Anna S.

The U-Haul facility and products are great ; however the app and system could use some work, For example. The app requires the front and back photos of The driver's license for reservations; and then requires the agent to request another front and back photo from the customer this link is texted , but does not work on beta versions of IOSJagtar N.
My reservation was for another location. They didn't have any vehicles there so I had to take a 30 $taxi ride to a different location. Then they charged me for the extra mileage from being at a further location and charged me for 2 days instead of 1 because I was late returning since it took me 2hours to get the vehicle in the morning. I was not given a discount or an apology but was instead charged an extra 100 $for U-hauls mistake.SHANE P.

The service received at the counter was excellent - however, I booked a self-pickup for 8am but it did not work. I had to wait until 9am when the location opened to get a vehicle. Another customer on the lot at 8am was assigned the same vehicle (both of our phones indicated we were assigned the same vehicle number and since she got there first, she took it), so I was left without a vehicle and had to wait for the location to open. I had 50 000,00 $ worth of valuables stolen from my locker here, and they had no video in the corridor the locker was in. They never respond to alarms when they go off, which is just plain incompetent and unprofessional. They were not friendly or helpful. Front desk staff were fantastic and the location itself is fine, the truck that was lent to me was gross!! The inside of the cab had not been clean, there was dust and dirt visible on the dash, the seats were dirty and there was dog hair EVERYWHERE! I spent 40 minutes cleaning and sanitizing the cab when I got home with the truck. There were dead bugs all over the front windscreen, which I also cleaned. The windscreen has multiple cracks which is a safety hazard. The window wipers needed to be replaced 3 or 4 months ago.Darren C.

I'm an international deriver and I reserved my truck through your website, uploaded my documents but, when picking up my trucks was informed that I need to provide an International Drivers license, even getting the approval to pickup the truck with my brazilian license. First they could not find my order, then when they found the order there was a charge that shouldn't be there for pick-up orders, (warranty) but they were unable to adjust it, so when they cancelled and re-did the order it came through at a higher price. They did agree to adjust price back to original quote, which was good. Then i asked about a Bike rack, but it took them awhile to figure out the only one in stock was the display, so they could sell it to me. I also found the inside of the retail space very loud, so you may want to see if there is anything you can do about that, as people had to raise their voices just to be heardDarryn (PU) A.

This has more to do with your system rather than any of the people involved in my rental. Many times, by phone (call centre) and at the Nanaimo U-Haul pick up location I tried to get the rental drop off date extended to Oct 2. On their computers, the correct dates showed but on my contract it kept coming up as Oct 1. It was upsetting to me because I was on the ferry still when I was supposed to be returning the truck. Added unnecessary stress to my move and another phone call to UHaul to once again get one more day added to the rental. In the end all was okay but I didn't need the aggravation and stress.Karen T.

All of the Marine Drive staff were helpful. One of your warehouse cleaning/maintenance staff at Marine Drive was incredibly friendly and very helpful. Don't know her name, but she is in her 50s (?) with light brown/blonde/grey hair. I saw her on several occasions, the last time was about 9am October 1st, 2021 in the East warehouse. LONG line in the morning for pick up. Guy helping with trailer set up was not helpful at all when my hitch didn't work initially, he should've had some adapters to ensure there was power making it to the hitch rather than telling me to go to a shop. Give people a hand to solve the problem!ROBERT N.
Not cancel and reschedule my reservations 2 times the day before I pick it up. Listen to your customers and treat them with respect. Time management should be a priority as well to make sure customers aren't left waiting around for an hour past when they are supposed to get their rental. Also don't put the word â€œGuaranteedâ€ beside anything because that is a straight up lie. Also don't lie to me and say you have no managers to speak to ever. You guys have made the moving experience A LOT more frustrating than it should've been. I've already spoken to someone finally, after many attempts, who was able to compensate me on my entire reservation. You need people to work for you who actually give a shit about their jobs. The light was showing already when I received it and I'm the type of person who doesn't like to have the gas light on because I'm afraid of being stranded. The moving blankets where wet and didn't even end up using them. Requested a two day book but was only give. The one day and was called to request I even bring the truck back earlier. i just received my bill for my truck rental from you guys. Im very upset and disappointed. I placed my order 2 weeks prion to my rental date and i opted to have a utility dolly and a furniture dolley rental. They only provided the utility dolley and they told me that there was no furniture dolley available. I specifically need it so i wouldnt be moving heavy couches around due to back issues. Fine, i dealt with it. Now i get my final bill and theres a charge for a 7 $funiture dolley rental and a 100 $charge for a missing furniture dolley. Can you explain to me how this is possible when there wasnt even one available? I need a response and refund asap. This is rediculous. I moved into a unit here on September 1st. On August 31st, I reserved a storage unit online. I received a confirmation email later that day, confirming that I had reserved a unit. When I showed up on the 1st, I was told that the booking doesn't exist, and they had sold out of the size unit I had reserved because apparently the units are first come first served. There was literally no point to doing an online reservation. I had to book a smaller unit instead, except the unit I originally reserved is somehow still in my name and is moved into, despite the fact that the reservation apparently didn't exist and someone else moved in there first. The card I was given to get into the building didn't work, but when I took it to the front desk they said it was totally fine. Spoiler alert, it wasn't because when I swiped it it said 'access denied, not signed in'. When I finally got into the unit, there were wadded up tissues in the corner. Also the alarm went off every few minutes, when our unit was both open and closed. We asked the staff if there was a problem and they said 'oh it just does that' and didn't seem to care. So clearly there's a problem with the alarm, so I don't feel safe at all having my stuff in there because I don't think anyone would notice if someone were to actually break in. All in all, absolutely would not recommend. I'm dreading having to go in and pick my stuff up next month, and I will be avoiding Uhaul in the future.Caitlin C. | Premières impressions

Staff were very helpful but customer service systems and online systems routinely errorrd out in different ways. The website needs a dramatic overhaul with more options available for users to do themselves without calling in, waiting on hold for an hour, being hung up on, on hold again, then transferred not once but twice before finally reaching the right person who could finally correct the error in the online system.Adam S. | Premières impressions
Despite being very clear when booking my order, and calling 2 days prior to my reservation to confirm again, U-haul continues to be incapable of following instructions and honouring contracts. I showed up to a completely different unit than the one I had booked, and had to fight to get an appropriate unit given to me as the staff's solution was to offer me units that would cost me more. During this frustration, a male staff member (the only one working front desk on 08/21/21 in the afternoon) decided to rudely insert himself into a conversation he was not involved in, and ask my husband to "calm down, settle down, and cool down" in the span of 10 seconds, while referring to him condescendingly as "buddy" and "bro". I then nicely interrupted and said "respectfully, as someone with a social work degree who has taken ,and taught conflict resolution and de-escalation strategies, you may wish to choose different terminology next time as telling someone to calm down, cool down etc is literally the opposite of what is recommended to de-escalate, and often only escalates the situation as you just saw." He sneered at me and sarcastically said "RESPECTFULLY, I didn't say any of those things" and proceeded to gaslight us, despite multiple others being witness to his words. This man needs to re-enter his training, or be removed from a front desk position where he deals with customers. Not professional at all, and has way to large an ego to deal with people in crisis. Murda was excellent in dealing with us, though also a point of frustration as when dealing with me (the calm wife in the situation) she had no solutions to offer me other than paying for a 200 $unit when I had booked an 85 $one, but when dealing with my husband was all of a sudden filled with potential solutions to give him. Solutions should always be offered, not simply because you no longer want to deal with a difficult customer. Customers should never be made to feel responsible for the failure of Uhaul employees, especially customers like myself who have gone above and beyond to ensure a correct reservation and even called multiple times etc which can all be tracked in your system. Finally, I have been waiting on a call from the general manager for almost a week now in regards to my move in, and have now been waiting for a call from him for 3 additional days in regards to this terrible move in experience. I am not sure why he is the GM if he is not capable of following through with customers, handling escalations etc. I had a terrible experience with U-haul 1,5 years ago when I rented a truck and storage while moving across the country, and thought I would try again now and give your company the benefit of the doubt, and a chance to prove me wrong. After this terrible experience I can safely say fooled me once shame on you, but fooled me twice shame on ME. I will never use this terribly rude, unprofessional company who does not know how to honour contracts ever again. I will also be communicating this to all of my colleagues, friends and family to ensure that not only do they avoid Uhaul, but also the SE Marine Drive location in specific.Kristy G. | Online Move In

Rented the box due to unilateral price increase on UBoxes due to "increased demand for u-boxes". When I arrived to move my foods from the ubox to Storage, the boxes were in the parking lot, 3 feet below the entry doors. In addition, the door was 'out of service' so the contents of our home could not fit into the building. The GM who sold me on moving my contents into storage was "unavailable" so the manager told me to hire people to lift the contents into the building. Incredible. One employee, in obvious disgust with UHaul said "they don't care if they lose customers because UHaul are so busy". I believe it. End result, u increased the price on my u ones, the boxes were moved back into the facility and your extorted price increase will apply on all 5 boxes. This is after paying UHaul over 5 000 $for their services to move our family goods. The ubox part of your business is separate from the storage and from the truck rental. No one knows about facilities at the other end and the customer is mislead. I will be contacting CBC Marketplace to file a complaint. I will also be working with a lawyer to get this resolved. This whole process of dealing with UHaul has been a terrible experience. There is a complete lack of customer focus. You have all my goods, no accessible storage and are increasing prices. The front staff do the best they can, but there are a lot of demands and it is hard for them to focus on you when they have multiple colleagues asking questions in the middle of them serving you. Even though I have been a client before, I still had some troubles understanding the new system and the staff did not explain the process at the desk. I made a reservation for a locker, when I arrived they told me the locker wasn't available as they are first come first serve. That strictly defeats the purpose of a reservation. I hauled a trailer of belongings from another province and relied on the reservation on my arrival. As a result I was offered very small or quite large at different prices. I'm currently in a large locker for my 1 month free period and will be moving to another storage company if the storage locker I expected doesn't come available, or if my quoted price isn't honoured. Also the contact information that needed to be filled out with secondary contact was overly onerous and nonsensical. When going through the rental process online it stated I was to have a lock left in the unit, but when I got there no lock was present. After checking with the front desk it turned out they were out, and I had to buy one to lock the unit. We arrived shortly before closing and the staff were very helpful, patient, and friendly, especially since we hadn't yet booked our unit when we arrived. Accessing our unit was fairly straightforward. The one downside of this location is there's no elevator to the 2nd floor - it's about 10 steps up which doesn't sound like a lot unless you're moving a 3-seater couch like we were. The storage itself was fine. I returned the keycard and empties my storage. My payments come out around the 27-28 of each months. I'm frustrated that there was no refund for the time left. I returned everything on the 15. I am almost certain that the storage unit is already rented out and that Uhaul is now double dipping on the same square footage. Put it this way, if I had cash laying around, I wouldn't need a storage room as I would have space. But living in Vancouver makes this out of reach. So this is extremely disappointing from such a large company that I have used over and over over the years. They couldn't help me reverse the late charges that your company assessed without contacting me about the billing. There are no words to describe how awful my experience with UHaul was from day one right to the bitter end. From the debacle renting my truck in Regina to getting to Vancouver and having absolutely nothing go right the entire time. I literally don't have a single positive thing to say about it and I'm normally a pretty positive person. I've had a lot of storage units in a lot of places and I've never experienced anything like this. I did not at all have a positive interaction with any staff other than the janitor. She was delightful. Everything was a struggle and I don't understand why. It's such a simple operation, yet tons of ineptitude was found in places I didn't think had room for any. Zero stars out of 10. And yes, I can give specific after specific of why my rating is literally as low as it can go. I've never, ever rated a business this low before. My only concern was the amount of mice droppings on the items stored. There were 2 bait boxes in my locker but not once was I asked for access so they could be repaired. I did not notice a single bait box in common hallways. I did look after I realized the amount of droppings in my locker. My only concern was that there was no facility to pull up a 15 Ft UHaul to offload at the storage. It was very inconvenient having to lug heavy furniture a distance from the storage. The other place I rented at the competition was perfect. It is always impossible to get through to the Marine Drive location. Twice I was put on hold for over 1/2 hour and the third time transferred over to the main reservations who were unable to help. TL;DR If you are planning to return a one-way rental here, add a whole day to your time estimate to deal with the ludicrous set up and disorganisation of this location. The staff was very helpful (until 5pm) and were able to resolve a number of the issues, but there were so many I cannot give more than one star. I'm sure this location is fine if you have a small locker, and only want to store or pick up a carload at a time, but it is an absolute nightmare if you are actually trying to store anything of size (especially while returning a large truck from a one-way rental) The "loading dock" is a narrow strip that is barely wide enough for the undersize trollies they provide. The entrance to the building off this narrow strip is a tiny door that you will struggle to get any actual furniture through. I chose a 10x10 unit, which UHaul specifically advertises for "Housing apartment or small home for short term move" and can fit "King mattress set, refrigerator, washer/dryer and living room furniture set"; U-haul apparently thinks it makes sense to put this unit UP A FLIGHT OF STAIRS. I called the day before arriving in town to get directions, and they didn't think it worthwhile to mention that the access from the main road was blocked by construction, and there was a long detour on a back road to get there. They said they had provided a lock already for the locker, and I paid, but there was no lock and I had to go back to the office twice to get one. They made me buy the lock even though I had my own which they said "wouldn't work" but I confirmed later that mine would have fit. There is very little room to maneuver a larger truck (e.g. 20") but one of the guys working there did pull it into the "loading dock" for us, but access and parking is still a huge pain, even if you are just coming by car. Because of the site access, and having to drag all my stuff up the stairs, I wasn't ready to return the truck until 5:02pm, but they had already locked the office door, and told me to checkout on-line. Of course, the online checkout system wasn't working (there was another person trying to return their van rental with the same issue).Maxwell H. | Premières impressions

First of all we were directed by one of your staff members to back the truck against the ramp to make it easier to offload. When we exited the truck, he was way gone and there was about a 3 foot gap between the ramp and the truck. I am not sure if he expected us to throw the furniture from the truck to the ramp. There was no where to off load a 15foot truck with a ramp since UHAUL had all their trucks parked in the area I could have used. So we had to park at a distance and walk heavy furniture over. The people we paid to move never showed up. I just had surgery on my knee so my son had to offload an entire truck and walk heavy furniture over. For the most part our move in experience at the storage centre was good. Staff were friendly and helpful. However, we were only told at 8pm as we were halfway through unloading our 15 foot truck packed with things that the bay doors had to be closed for the night and that the small regular entrance door would be the only one available. As well, upon return I was accused of doing damage to the rented truck that I did not do in an accusatory way by the staff. I needed to consolidate storage since the bill surged to 500 $/month between three places during a move six weeks ago. Logistics would be complicated, but in desperation to at least clear the uBox used for the move and avoid re-delivery charges, I discovered that this uHaul location also offers storage lockers at surprisingly reasonable rates. Configuration is VERY important, especially if you only have boxes. The locker I got is 10x10x6, 600 cubic feet, all useable. Paid the same rate for 5x10x10 in North Vancouver but get this - since you can't really pile boxes that high without some sort of reinforcement, what I was really getting is 300 useable cubic feet. Big difference. Also, when I consolidate the rest of the storage, any overflow can go into a uBox already on-site on demand. Cuts my total bill in half for now, then Marie Kondo it down later. To sum up, the quality of the facility - heated, each locker is alarmed and equipped with a sprinkler - is very impressive.
