The reservation process went smoothly, and the truck was in good condition. But a major drawback to us was how they charge for the gas you use. They told us the tank was 13/16 full and that we had to refill it to that level or be charged $4.75 per gallon. We got it as close as we could determine, but the gauge does NOT show where the 13/16 level is, and they claimed we did not fill it enough, so we were charged an extra $15! Their system is to their advantage either way: if you fill it too little you get charged a high rate to fill it; if you fill it to a higher level than when you started they get the extra gas. If they would just provide a FULL TANK upon rental you’d have no problem refilling the correct amount. This definitely affected how we rated our experience with UHaul.

My reservation was originally made at the Manchester, CT store where they could use more counter help to cope with customers having to wait in a long queue. Perhaps runners or assistants to aide customer once they have cleared the order process.

Had an amazing experience working with john the general manager he helps me and my family out every time we rent as we frequently rent from the columbia location. He has high energy and is always willing to help carry our boxes out and even goes above and beyond and helps my 87 year old mother into the truck. after him being screamed at and pushed by a Customer last time we rented I thought we would've lost the amazing experience he provides us each time when we visit the location but he was still here and I hope he receives credit for all that he does.

I wish that you would train people what the fractions are for measuring the gas in the tanks. You have it broken into 1/16th's on the contract, and the gas tank only has 1/4 increments. I use a tape measure all day every day and know how to divide up something into fractions. These guys were adamant that there was 15/16th's of a tank when I left, but it was not.... I know it is a small thing, but you should not have the increments like that. 1/8's is close enough. Also, I brought it back with a full tank, and while you threaten to charge me almost $5 a gallon if I am short, you give no credit when I bring it back with extra gas. Not complaining, but you put undue pressure on people. Honestly, you should have it full on the way out, require it full upon return, and anything over a gallon to top it off should be charged to the customer. Anyway, I will still be renting from you, just my thoughts on running a tighter (and fairer) ship.

The beginning of our experience was pleasant. The workers were cordial and knowledgeable. The check-out employee pointed out that we needed to be sure to fill the tank back to a half tank and gave us the highlighted paper showing which marks to pay attention to in order to know how many gallons to put in. The ending of our experience was disappointing. My husband went to replace the gas. He followed the highlighted chart. It showed he needed to replace between one and a half and two gallons. To be safe he put in three gallons. When he got back in the truck and started to drive, the gas gauge only went to just below a half tank. When he got to the UHaul place, he told the check-in person what had happened. That person assured him it was not a problem. Unfortunately, when we received the emailed receipt, we were charged $6.38 for fuel. We were disappointed in that the gas gauge and the highlighted paper did not match up; and we were disappointed that we were told it wasn't a problem that the discrepancy caused us to be a little under, yet we were still charged the exorbitant gas fee. Overall, what began as a pleasant experience ended rather disappointingly.

All staff members we encountered at this location were friendly, professional, efficient and knowledgeable. They anticipated questions, concerns and needs efficiently & effectively. The on-line/remote rental and return apps are new to us...we didnt use them this time but can see the value in offering a streamlined rental experience. There was a snafu with being charged an extra day on our rental. John responded to my email quickly; apologized and addressed it immediately. He then called me to explain the refund and to ensure that I had recieved my copy of that refund via email. He is very polite, professional and responsive. The only thing that was a surprize and may be something to be mindful of is...we were not advised at the rental desk that we'd recieve a text with link to confirm any existing damage to the vehicle. I didnt get that untill I was at my destination. Thankfully there was no,issue with this but I could see how if damage was going to be charged to a customer you'd have wanted this addressed at pick,up. Overall working with folks & equiptment at this location made a hot, hard day of moving much much easier! Thank you!

The person who took my keys at return was rude, uneducated in his position and called me a bitch when I asked for an explanation of the return process. I suggest you pay your staff more so you can get better employees.

We had rented a truck at this location before without a problem. This time, however, we arrived only to be told that the 17" truck that we had reserved and put a deposit on was not available - it apparently had been returned by the previous customer in poor condition. We were offered a smaller 15" truck instead (for the same price) I should have been notified that the truck wasn't available before my pick-up time. They had my phone number and e-mail address. The gentleman working at the cash register was very pleasant and apologetic, but said that there was nothing more he could do. I was very disappointed - we reserved the larger truck because we needed the extra space.

Tell them BEFORE actually drilling two holes in my trunk even though i had signed the release i had watched a video on the installation of the hitch i thought i was buying a different hitch but thats because uhaul screwed my reservation up at the oakland street store in manchester ct so they found me a place to get it done that so happened to have my hitch supposedly but it was installed crooked too and i think its actullay not centered so i can see more of the trailer in one mirror than the other wtf kind of pissed off about the whole god damned thing !!!!! Dont go to uhaul the people that work there dont like their jobs or something .... sorry i really wanted to like this process but it was doomed from the time i paid in full because i still dont get how the online system issues me a res # but noone else recognizes it at the uhaul store sooooo whats that all about ????! Fifty dollar refund is not enough im pissed off !!!!

I was not happy with the fact they could not keep the computer on line for an 1 1/2 hours of standing there then to have to wait for the car hauler to be hooked up. Then we leave and I find out the lights don't work on one side because of a broken trailer wire but that's not bad I send the lady 45 minutes a way to get a new wire from the same location and she gets back and the wire they gave her was bad to so I had to go 20 away to my shop and fix it. Then we rented a car hauler and told them what was going on it and went to load it and it was to long for the trailer. Now were about 7 hours leaving late. I should have listen to the guy at Penske when he said it wont fit. For the money it cost for this rental these things should not happen. And you ask if I would recommend to a friend I don't think so not with the service I got. Tom

The customer service was exceptional. However, I would suggest that if the job is going to take longer than originally discussed, I would update the customer. I was waiting, at the location, on what I expected to be 2 hours and it was closer to 3 1/2 hours.

Staff promised to put the cover on box after we loaded it. They did not and plywood box was left outside exposed to weather at final location, luckily it did not rain. Never received notification that my u-box arrived, found out it did a day late at a different location through Moving Help. While it was cheaper and my items did finally arrive safely I wasn't too impressed.

I SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD TO MAKE SURE I CLEANED THE VEHICLE SPOTLESS BECAUSE I WAS CHARGED A 25$ CLEANING FEE !! NOT VERY HAPPY ABOUT IT ! You can improve EVERYTHING. I am beyond displeased with UHaul and will honestly never work with this company again. I have not had my UBox in 3 months, and I am still getting billed monthly. After speaking with different customer service representatives, we have been called liars, we have been told that we still have the unit, and NOBODY knows how to fix the issue. We have contacted our local UHaul store that stored the box for us, and we were notified that the last manager left, and when he left, he didnt care, so he did not put the information in the system properly. My fiancee and I have been charged 4 times for a box that we do not have anymore. Nobody seems to be able to fix this issue. We have reached out to upper corporate NUMEROUS times, and nobody has responded to us or assisted in figuring out how we can right this issue and get a refund on our money. Honestly, this has been an extreme nuisance, and our family, friends, coworkers, etc. have been told to NEVER use UHaul for anything. This has been miserable.

I had some issues with the scent of the car and also some confusion with the fuel amount leaving/arriving. I called customer service and today I got a call back from Johnathon Slota, the store manager. I described how the truck we rented smelled like cigarette smoke and we almost couldn’t take it due to our asthma (they had no other trucks available to swap out). The employee at the time was very nice/helpful and John helped resolve the situation over the phone today. Even though the experience was a bit annoying, overall the customer service was excellent and I would recommend this location to others because of it.

When I picked up the truck I had rented, the interior of the vehicle was disgusting! It had literally an inch of dust over the entire dashboard area as well as the seat being covered in dog hair. A little more effort should be put into these things Incase of people with animal allergies and just overall cleanliness of the inside of a vehicle that people have to sit in and stare at.

The doors and locking mechanisms worked well. The rest room facilities were a huge plus. Ground floor unit 1905 had occasional moisture at floor in rear, likely from rain or snow melt in parking lot.

Its really hard to answer the above questions. The storage was ok. No elevator bugs got into my daughters belongings. Understaffed computer system is always down. Staff could care less.

I was very dissapointed and disgusted when i went to go move my things out of my storage #1412 to find out i had cockaroaches in my things. I def did not move in with them. Will not reccomend uhaul!
