I am outraged with the lack of safety protocols demonstrated by Uhaul! Last Friday I rented a 15’ truck to execute a very timely move in order to beat the hurricane coming to my Province. I had to pick something up 45 minutes away from my house before I started the move. Just before I was going to leave the place that was 45 minutes away, to return to my house to begin the move, I just happened to look down and notice a slit in my tire! They were completely bald and wearing to the canvas! This tire had been bald for a long time! So many things flashed before my eyes....my 10 year old, my Father and my life were put at risk! I just drove on 2 highways and a bridge for 45 minutes on a tire that was close to blowing! I called Uhaul, got transferred to Roadside. I waited more than an hour for him to come, another hour to change the tire (there was issues with the nuts on the rim). I was now 2 hours past schedule and I had movers at my house waiting for me!!!!! That is $75 and hour x 3 guys!! These movers had made it very clear to me that they had to be home by a certain time in order to bear down the hatches for the hurricane! And! Not to mention, the storage unit where all my stuff was, was shutting down the gates by 7pm because of the hurricane! I had to get on the phone and beg all of these people to hold tight! This cost ME far more then it should have because of Uhauls lack of safety regulations! Had I post-poned the move, I would have been homeless!! This cost was non-negotiable! So, I get an email from the Manager of this location (4 days later), saying she was sorry and would give me my truck rental for free. That is a $100 value but doesn’t come close to what I needed to pay out! What about the discussion around how my families lives were at risk or the other families had I been involved in an accident....because they didn’t follow proper safety measures! What about letting me know this was being taken seriously so this didn’t happen to others! What about seeing if my move was ok? What about addressing the fact that I had to pay out hundreds of extra dollars to compensate for Uhauls sloppiness! I am not done with this and I am so worried this situation will go on deaf ears! I want to know that I am helping reduce the risk of someone else’s family losing control on the public roads because of failure to comply with NS road safety requirements? I understand your trucks are registered to a US state....why is that? Because they don’t need to follow my provinces vehicle safety regulations? Uhaul, shame on you! I understand there is a requirement for all renters to do safety checks. I did the best I could considering each truck was parked inches from the next in a nearly empty, huge parking lot! Truck in, truck out...that’s Uhauls intension apparently! There were so many trucks in the lot not being used - lots of availability! I am trying to decide what my next steps should be! First of all, I would like Uhaul to compensate

There is not enough staff there, my equipment dolly was not in the truck and I had to go back. However, the staff I spoke to this morning to credit the wasted KM to get a dolly was fantastic. She was efficient, polite and helpful.

Usually trucks are clean but this one wasn’t cleaned. I got there at 7:30am to pick it up, it was parked in the row, window left open all night, a picture frame with a photograph on the dash, food bits in and around the cup holders. I rent here often and my general experience has been that trucks are usually pretty clean here. But this one wasn’t.

rented 2 times from Fredericton to Beaver Bank with drop off in Bedford. Both times we had to drop each truck off at a different location which took over an hour each time for both my wife and myself.

I reserved a month in advance online. 2 days before my reservation I was told the truck I had reserved wouldn't be available until after my reservation. When asked how this happened given I reserved in advance and was told then a truck would be available, I was told 'it's hard to get a truck that day'. I know it's hard to get a truck that day, that's why I tried to reserve in advance. At least let me know when I reserve if I can't get one at that time. Others have told me this is systemic. Pretty crappy thing to do, I will be avoiding uhaul in the future.

Before I recommend, I would be sure to tell people to check the kms they drive and calculate how much gas they would have used. I am quite upset that my son used maybe $5 worth for 26 kms but he was worried about getting into trouble if he didn't put enough gas back in so he put $20. And your company does not reimburse. Need to come up with a better plan.

My experience with UHaul was not pleasant. First my truck I reserved on August 12 for pick up on Green Street was cancelled four days before I was to move my daughter. I was told to go three hours away for another truck. Very inconvenient. Then I had to scramble and find someone on kijiji with a truck during a busy time for moving. Once I found a truck I then booked a uhaul trailer. Again...several emails on time changes etc. I finally confirmed pick up and drop off. Then I receive another booking I didnt make for the day I was dropping off the uhaul. Sat on the phone on hold so I could cancel the reservation I didnt make!!! Horrible experience with Uhaul and the move cost me more than if I had been given my original reservation. I will never rent through Uhaul again unless I receive some sort of compensation!
