I ordered a number of pieces of moving equipment which was not in the truck for my 24/7 pick up. I then had to wait for an hour for the location to open and the agent was unapologetic and dismissive. Time was of the essence and would have made a world of difference for a very busy moving day, hence why I altered my pick up time in the first place. I have rarely had a positive experience with UHaul and this was no different.

The staff at this location were very good! At check in the staff member was courteous and I witnessed them quickly resovlve an issue for an agitated customer. I left my keys in the truck and though it had been rented out to another a staff member helped contact that customer to arrange for return of my keys.

This was the first negative experience i have had at U-Haul. First, there was one guy at the counter. It took so long for me to finally get to the counter to get my van. Second, once i got the van, there was no one around to ask questions regarding the van. For instance, my gas guage was at 1/8 not 1/4 as indicated on my form. I walked all around the area and couldnt find anyone to help me. The only person i could see was the one guy at the counter ! So, i had to go back in the long lineup just to ask a question taking valuable time away from the tasks i need to do with the van !. Not happy with the overall experience.

When I picked up the truck, it was messy in the cab. Pet hair, gravel, hadn't been vacuumed. The back of the truck was filthy. Sand, dirt, hasn't been swept in a long time. My equipment (1 dolly and 1 furniture dolly) was not in the truck when I picked it up as promised.

Phone app virtually useless. I had rented before, was in your database and it would not allow me to rent without ridiculous requirements, passport, employer verification, contact. Don't waste my time! Upon return, the app was painfully slow, 15 seconds after every continue touch. The van would not allow a photo of both the gas gauge and mileage. Had to waste somebody's time to fix it. Your app needs a big fix,

The bay door never worked. The lights were constantly going out on me. There were several times I went to access my storage when it said online it was open and it wasn't. Stairs to my unit without any sort of assistance and in a tight corner which made it very hard to move things in/out Also, your staff seem to be over worked and under paid.

Chose Esquimalt from list of drop off sites and when I went to drop off truck the man was rude and told me they are not a drop off site. He was not helpful when I tried explaining and showing him that they are listed as a drop off site he didn't want to communicate, just wrote down other places to “try”. When I went to Topaz location they were equally rude and at first refused to take drop off. He was quite rude to start and waved me away. Eventually he gave me a number to call and once I did that he didn't believe me when I said they changed drop off location to Topaz just said “well if you say so” rudely and took the keys. I then went back in to see if he should be doing a check on the truck and mileage so I can pay for mileage and it seemed like a chore to him. He actually flung the truck door open hard into the uhaul beside it to check mileage. Overall the drop off(a) were a disaster. The Coombs location was excellent for pick up though.

When I dropped off the trailer, they guy would not look up from his phone to give proper instructions on where to park the trailer. It was just bad customer service on both ends of this trip.

Better parking options for people using trucks for the day. In the past, you used to be able to park your vehicle in the same parking spot as the truck you're renting for the day. Having to park on another road and there is not that many spots plus, it's not the safest area makes it a bit stressful. I specially coming back in the evening with a kid is challenging.

The person who "helped" me when picking up the van was not clear at all about how the estimated km's works, I agreed to an estimate of 100km, way more than I needed, and he instead put down 150km estimated, NOT the agreed upon 100. When we went outside to go over the conditions of the van he was impatient to be done, and the van was not clean - in fact, there was dried blood on the side door at the handle, and when I pointed it out to him he SCOFFED at me and tried to ridicule me saying that isn't wasn't blood. Well yes it was, I worked in hospitals, I know dried blood when I see it, and so does my sister who was with me and is also a nurse and who also works in the hospitals here!!! To boot he put up an attitude and said "Fine I'll clean it off." and all he used was window cleaner! Did you know that the HIV virus can stay active and alive for up to 72hours outside of the human body?!? Well I do, because I used to work in Trauma in our Emergency department and was properly and professionally trained!!! Based on this experience I will pay more money to rent from somewhere else before I EVER rent from uhaul ever again, and you can be absolutely certain that I will tell EVERYONE about this experience!!!

I am 220 cad overcharged and uhaul is just unreachable trying to reach a person about this mistake but feel like I am left all alone after the service this is just not correct and not fair why I have been overcharged even though I filled the truck more than the amount I suppose to fill?

They were severely understaffed and I spent a lot of time waiting around. At one point the guy helped another guy who was behind me in line which really annoyed me. I do think that this location is very good and if it were fully staffed I'd have rated it excellent.

The truck I booked I thought would have a ramp, it did not it had an extra step with a tow hitch. It made it extremely hard to load equipment, I had to rig a ramp in two locations with what we had on hand. Because of this, I had to extend my truck return by 2,5hrs. The driver's side tire was at 40 psi instead of 80 psi, I had to mention this and I had put air in the tire to make it safe to drive.

The customer service was great. Shubham Bhutani, the customer service agent, was very helpful with renting the van, and also he was quick in getting back to us with the final bill after we returned the van truck. Great service in this location. Recommandé.

We were told less than 24 hours before our pick up that the size of trailer was not available and we would have to downsize. This led to us having to get rid of furniture/items we wanted to keep in our new home as we didn't have enough room. Extremely disappointed as we booked this approx 3 weeks previous. If we would have known this we would have gone to Budget

I booked the no contact pickup for 5pm only to be told that the keys weren't ready because they close at 5pm. The location scanner didn't work on Safari and it wouldn't find my location. When returning the truck, again the mobile drop off didn't work, if it is because it is safari then that should be fixed as a lot if people use safari. The guy at the location was really helpful though when he realised that the system wasn't working.

Actually prioritize the customer experience in your business model. What is the point in having a scheduled reservation time when you have to wait an hour in line anyway? If I was notified of this I would have shown up much earlier as it put tight time restraints on my move. This is for online customer care & location.

I highly recommend Chetri for being awesome! He works overtime and make sure he serves customers. I was having a hard time figuring out my code to pick up the truck I reserved for pick up. Been waiting for 1,5hrs but Chetri came to help even if he's already off working. Thanks to his service i was able to help my family with moving!

Pickup truck reserved was unavailable at the time of pickup and after 45 minutes I was given a replacement of a cargo van which was filled with equipment I didn't want. Service was inconsistent as I had rented a pickup a month prior and was charged different prices for using a debit card (which I had used last time). Unnecessarily difficult to engage with employees and received minimal assistance.

Truck was filthy and windshield was plastered with bugs. Didn't have a dolly or moving blankets, which I reserved. When I arrived, there was 9 people ahead of me and only one person working. It took 35 minutes to get the keys. Checked in on my phone, but they proceeded to do it all again, including taking photos of my ID. What was the point of doing it ahead of time? So much wasted time.

The app for checking in and out is a little troublesome on my android. It would be useful if not incredibly handy if there were store tablets given out as "self checkout" options to reduce the line.

Moving is always difficult. As requested, I had my reservation complete, with all things like photos (of your driver's licence) were done before I got to the UHaul Centre on Topaz. When I got to that location, there was already 6 people or groups waiting to be served. There were 2 customer service reps in their places and another who was walking around with a coffee. He was not working. The 2 people "helping" us were slow and mechanical. It took 30 minutes to get the contract signed. I wanted a dolly (for $10) which I believed came free with the trunk. I noticed 2 OTHER dollies, all the same, also in the truck. We ignored the other two. We were told on the form that we were given, to do a 'walkaround' the truck to look for previous damage. There was sand and dry soil on the rubber mats, but not a lot. I was supposed to be back at 5:30 pm when closing time was. Unfortunately, we had to stop altogether on the Trans-Canada Highway just past the Helmcken exit as there must have been an accident, as we were absolutely parked on the highway for at least 20 minutes , so we detoured off into Langford to Goldstream and more residential areas. We were to be back by 5:30 pm but it was 6;15 pm when we got parked at Topaz. Today, two days after the move, I saw a bill for $17.00. It was a "Ciollection- Fines and Citations". I phoned the Customer Service in the USA to see what the problem was. UHaul was charging me for the two dollies that were already in the truck! I was quite surprised that I would be charged for something I had not asked for. I have been on the phone today waiting for an hour. After I received a call back, "Sonia" said she would talk to her manager. I was on the phone for another 45 minutes before the call was cut. I then I had to wait on the second phonecall for 45 minutes. Another rep looked at it all again and said that a manager would look at this and I should wait for 72 hours for an answer. What a circus!! KK

Worst U-Haul in Canada, and I have used many across country. Worst storage facilities we ever experienced. Staff was rude, not friendly and didn't know how to do their job. When we moved out, the girl at the desk, who barely understood English needed to ask a Canadian employee to help her to end our storage unit rental, and it turned out all she needed to do was push one button that says move out. It took her as a result, ten minutes instead of the two it should have taken her. Just a ridiculous horrible experience all around. At least the girl at the end wasn't rude, she was just incompetent. The two males from India are rude, and arrogant, and still didn't know how to do their jobs and blamed the computer for their incompetent abilities. Witnessed a tour when moving out and the potential customer stated that the unit looks smaller than advertised on the website ( which it is) and the East Indian staff, just dismissed him and said he was wrong, that it is the same. So the potential customer who didn't like being dismissed as stupid, told the staff member that he wasn't going to do business with this U-HAUL. Who ever owns this U-HAUL should replace these rude incompetent employees that are only there to get their permanent resident, because they have zero integrity and care nothing about doing a good job or the customers.

Having equipment ready for customer pickup would be fantastic. I don't want to pull the truck off the display hill in the back forty after the Tractor trailer delivering your supplies has gone. And the returns. Please wait here in your equipment for a representative to check you in ... In 45minutes to an hour.

I'm a big man and the 10 foot truck was to small in the passenger compartment due to the separation of the cargo and cab... Had to return it without using it cost me 58 in gas and 55 for the rental for 5 miles of driving

It would be much better if I could call them direct instead of having to try getting through to the call centre which I was never able to do. I had to take time away from my work and drive to the main facility to book a truck. Very pleasant people were there to help me.

I rented a van for 129 dollars for a one day intown with an estimated 350km use. My mileage was only 240 km and also my move took longer than expected so I elected to return it the next morning expecting to pay another day's rental of 19,95 and was charged $264.00. This is an overcharge and is a poor business practice on Uhaul's part. I have contacted the local manager to help resolve this matter equitably.

The location where the truck was parked (adjacent to a building) made it quite difficult to inspect the driver's side, as well it was quite difficult for a bigger guy like me to enter the vehicle. Just a minor annoyance, but not something that will keep me from returning.

Hire more front desk people because there is always a long line-up and people are already super tired from boxing up their stuff, cleaning up their old residence, etc, and so getting the moving truck from U-Haul shouldn't take so long (to stand in the line-up with 5 or 6 people ahead of you), especially when you've already ordered the truck online and only need to pick it up.

The Victoria UHaul office overcharged on refuelling. Apparently, the tank was "full" yet it cost $37 in gas to travel 41 kilometres! The response of the people at the desk was "not to understand" the problem and refused to compensate. A very bad experience.

I will never be able to use a Uhaul storage facility again. My storage unit was covered in mouse droppings and I was forced to call Got Junk and pay $600+ to have half of my items thrown away. These items consisted of hockey (skates and padding) and lacrosse equipment, boxes of clothing and other house hold items totaling approx. $3000. I told and showed the manager of the facility all that was being thrown away. The guys from Got Junk wouldn't even place some items on their truck as it was so disgusting!!! I was so upset to have paid so much money for the largest storage unit and it was disgusting. Will never go back to any Uhaul EVER! I was told to reach out to Uhaul to file a claim, which I did and I have not heard back from anyone for 30day! This is very upsetting.

My storage unit needed brighter lighting. If I needed to see detail I had to move the box or item out to the hall, which sometimes I couldn't do by myself (inconvenient). Eventually I brought a flashlight in (inconvenient). In regard to security it was worrisome to see the main doors staying wide open, on a consistent basis. I know there are security cameras but most of the time the staff were so busy or out of the office area they probably wouldn't see anything suspicious until it was too late. Access hours were good but on a consistent basis there was nowhere close to the storage units to park my vehicle due to Uhaul trucks, bins or other cars in all the spots and areas (inconvenient). This meant I had to come back another time (inconvenient). I changed up which day of the week and the time of day I came but it was still a negative issue. I didn't mind walking a block if I was just there with a small item but if it was a box or bin I couldn't carry it that far and I wasn't going to take a loaded trolley down the road. This was my first experience with renting storage units so I have nothing to compare it with. If someone does ask me about storage facilities I would mention this Uhaul facility but only if the person was desperate.

Took a hour to book our unit. The staff at that location was rude and had no integrity. His name was Gerjit. Even after giving up my spot in line to a lady who was running late, Gerjit tried to help the customer behind my wife and I rudely. When we did finally get our storage unit our code to get into the storage area didn't work. Gerjit refused to fix it, then lied to us about the storage access hours. We were late for work because of this, and we still have not been able to store our belongings. My wife and I are pre-Med students and both work full time and this has really messed up our schedule. Gerjit gave us the worst treatment ever experienced with U-Haul. From George and Joanna.

My reservation got lost. They booked me into a locker already occupied. Next Locker I was given was actually the empty one with rodent traps. Automatic payment was not set up properly so I got a delinquent notice. The whole process was painful everytime I went there. Will never do it again...ever.

Took way to long to rent a unit. I have rented many times and this was extremely long. The lady said she had been up all night didn't sleep and could not function properly. Had to get someone else to help and had to wait many times as she could not figure things out on the computer. The. When I went to check out the guy didn't know how and had to wait again for someone else to do it.

Found out after I paid that my unit was on a second floor with no elevator and I had my move large furniture by myself (which would have been less dangerous with an elevator). Had to go back to customer service 3+ times because attendant did not give me access card, did not tell me how to enter the building, just did not seem to be focusing on what he was doing. I asked to be put on a waitlist for a first floor unit but did not get any confirmation.

The lockers are smaller than advertised and when you are storing 18 inch boxes the 3' wide storage rooms need to be just that or they are useless. The first room they tried to put me in was about 28 inches wide and when I complained they put me into a room that was 34 inches and still charged full price. I was left with no choice but to find storage elsewhere and then had to rent a truck to move everything to the larger storage room at a different facility.

Sometimes difficult access because rental vehicles and trailers get parked infront of the storage area blocking parking spots. Mice poop but never saw a mouse. Confusing access if you're the first one there (no instructions on how to turn on the automatic door). Elevator works and there are usually carts to use.

Your access to the storage states till 10pm the store closes at 8pm and due to covid, the access was cut short till 8pm. Not sure why a survive what interacts with no other people has a shorten time because of covid. This storage location is the worst. U-Haul is not number 1 in Victoria BC, not even close. Might want to have a talk with the staff. Every time I've used this uhaul my experience has been the worst.

The main doors in, and the elevator are in general disrepair and are regularly broken down, prohibiting easy access. Organizing obtaining new units for rent was almost impossible, b/c online and telephone systems are poorly updated. However the staff were exceptionally helpful in a stressful time, and made it possible to take on a number of units that online systems weren't aware of. There is another gap in online systems between HQ accounting systems (where bills are paid) and the local accounting teams. We regularly paid bills and still received notice for payments needed. The facility is dramatically understaffed at the month's end, when transition is high. The staff are helpful, and thoughtful, but ill-equipped to handle priorities at the end and beginning's of the calendar month. However, mid-month, the staffing levels enable appropriate service. Lastly, the local truck-rental systems feel scammy...taking reservations for trucks in one office, and then making the customer drive 20k in both directions to pick up and drop off the trucks, and then charging them for the KMs. Poor business tactics.

Because I did this entirely over the internet and not knowing the ins and outs of the facility. It would have been nice to have been shown the access to the H level and other possible options. Freight elevator was slightly confusing the first time. All in all I'm pleased 

I moved my stuff in 2 days before the end of the month because of sertain circumstances and then ended up moving my stuff out a month later but 2 days after my rent renewed. Would not give me a deal for only being there for 2 days. Made me pay for an entire month. Ridiculous. Will never use uhaul storage again ad there are many other options.

After having used the Excellent U-Haul Facility in Winnipeg on Empress I was severly disappointed in the moldy storage facility in Victoria. Every bedding item I owned mold smell and needed to be replaced including matress. Having no heat and no circulation is a big part of the problem. The check-in counter is understaffed. Check-in was 20+ minute wait. Your check-out process is broken. The counter person had called a week before my next months fee was due. At this time I informed her that the locker was empty, cleaned and that I was done with it. She seemed confused needed to check locker and would call back. Nothing? She calls again two days before the rent is due. I state what I had said earlier. Now she says it may be too late to NOT pay for another month. I going "what"? I explain again and she say she will call me back. That's the last I heard of her. Wow that place is too busy and too understaffed. Moldy and Damp. Go elsewhere my friend.

The facility is old and has a mice issues. Trying to find a place to unload or load is nearly impossible because of all the uhaul trucks taking up the spaces that should be for storage customers. Store the uhaul trucks off site. The manger is great though and was very accommodating and helpful!

Storage area itself was fine but the organization was not. We were told at 7pm that the facility was closing when the website says we have access until 10. Parking and trying to find a spot to load/unload the truck was a nightmare. The online move out tool for storage does not function well at all, and the manager did not check up on this which resulted in me getting an email about owing the next month's rent as well as a late charge, and having to call corporate customer service because the location did not answer their phone. It took about four days to get any sort of confirmation that my move out had been processed finally, which was only in the form of a "how did we do" email.

There are definitely mice in the building and I found their feces in some of my belongings. The uhaul lit was extremely crowded with vehicles when I wanted to unload my items, and I was lucky the truck I needed was right next to the storage loading/unloading area. Staff were very helpful in helping to move trailers Out of the way so I could actually back the truck up. Another person was unloading at the same time, but there wasn't enough room for them. Otherwise accessing the space, using the trolleys and elevator were fine. Again, staff were busy, but really helpful.

The manager was the type of person who wanted to take every penny he could squeeze from you, but wanted to offer the most terrible experience at a uhaul in Canada. Compared to the uhaul storage I used in Ontario, the Victoria Topaz location was terrible. There were rats in the storage lockers. For some reason the facility was NOT secured and there were homeless people inside walking around. One time I went to remove my things from storage and someone had left all their items on the only elevator the previous day and instead of quickly cleaning it up so that other customera could use the elevator, they left the elevator closed off completely for 24 hours. Therefore, I could not take anything out of storage that day and it was a waste of time. I will continue to use uhaul but not this specific location until there isa a management change. Merci.

Horrible experience. We will never use U-Haul again We booked a truck for contactless pick up so we could make a specific ferry reservation. We got a call a week later saying we have to pick it up Later in the AM and miss our ferry or the night before and return it late with a fee. I had to call back and fight to not pay for that extra Time that I was forced to take. I arrive at storage locker and they have no lockers available with the square footage I reserved. I was then told "reservations mean nothing" and that I could only have a smaller storage locker with 60sqft less. My house can't fit in it. The storage lockers are dirty and made of old wood with wire cage walls separating the units. We ran into another customer there who said they had a hug and rodent problem and were pulling their items out. After 1,5 hours of waiting for them to find a solution I was finally forced to drive to drive 45 minutes to a different storage company and pay more money to store else ware. They were AMAZING. Actual customer service, they gave us free flat decks because we had been Screwed around by U-Haul so long and they brought us out ice water to keep us going. I will be calling to get my storage locker insurance refunded and will also be inquiring about why our trip cost $1000 when the owner of a neighborhood store said he had never seen one over $400 Vancouver to Victoria. I will also be posting my experience on every possible site I can find. No one should have to deal with this especially during covid.

The staff at the local facility do the best they can with a flawed system. I had numerous positive experiences with staff member Abhin Jose. Access via the card reader-operated door or through the roller door was numerous times out of order during my two-month use of the facility. It was subsequently fixed, but half my experiences at the facility were with broken doors (though not insecure). Such things happen. The real problem is with U-Haul's system. It allows customers to reserve storage online regardless of the facility's availability so that they can not honour everyone's reservations. I was one of the lucky ones; I'd have been hugely inconvenienced had I not been as I had a truck full of furniture from out of town. As it was, I was only moderately inconvenienced by the resulting disorganisation. I also had to pay a full month's rent for the final week of use as the system does not parse rentals for any less than a month. Charge as you will with your business model, U-Haul, but that isn't very customer-friendly. Knowing this now, I will seek to use a storage competitor in future who can charge pro rata at least by week. Finally, the problems of the U-Haul system are intertwined with the self-service problems online, which I won't even begin to address. Suffice to say this is not the facility's problem but the U-Haul organisation's. My overall experience and note of others' complaints leaves me with the impression there is little appetite at the corporate level to address such systemic failures so I have low confidence anything will change, nor indeed that this feedback will even make it to the right ears.
