Have no prior experience with UHAUL or competitors. Online reservation system was simple. Pleasantly surprised at change to Topaz location from Queens, as this was my original preference but was not available online. Not thrilled about unexpected day-of upgrade to larger truck as it was more intimidating to drive but it worked out. Prompt service from staff. Disappointed Topaz location had no record of me pre-purchasing mattress bag and stating I would have to go pick up from Queens location even though they had them on shelf at Topaz. I also had to go back and ask them to find me furniture protectors even though they knew it was on order (In-store rack was empty) and was given 10 not a dozen. Truck was clean and drove very well. Rental truck had a very badly cracked windshield (over the middle half of the windshield), and it should not have been rented until repaired. Unfortunately there were no other available trucks of that size at the time. Also, albeit a minor point, this was obviously a US truck as the speedometer was in miles per hour, odometer in miles (not sure why this is being used in Canada, as you have to do conversions to metric!) Also the price quoted to me on the phone was 140 $for my reservation but when I picked up the truck, the price was 165 $. The customer service person said there was nothing she could do. So as a result, I would avoid renting at this location again.DAVID D.

I have posted on Facebook also. I will never return and an urging my friend to rent elsewhere, your whole â€œreturn with gas gauge at exact spotâ€ is a deplorable scam. The staff tried to take 9 $extra from me. I drove a Savannah 17k and put 5 litres in. It had more gas then when I got it! The staff said that wasn't verified by the needle and suggested it was my fault for not verifying before leaving that they hadn't underfilled it! Fraudsters. Preying. I will continue to tell everyone I know; giving this location your truck rental business is going into your money to dishonest people.JOHN H.

I received the truck with a three-quarter full tank. I was told if I did not get the tank back to that same mark they would be charging me a higher rate per litre for gas to fill it up. I do not think that I should pick up a vehicle that does not have a full tank. How is a customer to fill a tank to the exact mark on the fuel level indicator that it was at when you picked up the vehicle? The vehicle should be at a full tank when picked up therefore when refilling it is easier to fill to the max rather than having to guess where it would be. This failure to have a full tank cost me probably an extra 20 $and I don't think that it right.stephen S.
Very frustrating service experience. We arrived on time, with a reservation, and there was no line, and it still took half an hour for us to have keys in hand. We were late for the meet up for which we required the rental and it ended up not working out. It made it a far more stressful and negative night than it should've been. More of a comment I am a hotel manager and developer. The staff were very kind and professional. Business are more about the people who work there. the back area of the truck i used was covered in pine needles from previous use . while providing a great smell , it was also messy . The ease of use from booking online to picking up to dropping off was easy and the counter person was helpful . More furniture sized dollies for rental would also be a bonus .Randy P.

I had an incredibly unpleasant experience working with this location. Not only did they not have the equipment I reserved, but the customer service I received was non existent. I had to change my drop off location and spent an hour on the phone with a uhaul representative who was very helpful. However the location did not honor the changes that were made, and I ended up being charged considerably more than I anticipated. I wrote a review of the location online detailing the various issues I had. I am incredibly frustrated, and frankly I will never rent from uhaul again because of this experience.John B.

A padlock was left on the trailer and made a busy moving day and trying to catch a ferry to Vancouver unnecessarily stressful because we had to go back to the location and get it unlocked. Ended up missing the reservation for the ferry and pushing our day back.Hannah M.

During my 2 day rental I had a call from a Uhaul representative who was looking at my address in the contact. He wanted to inform me that there was a closer drop off location then what I had planned. Also I left my wallet in the rental truck after dropping the key in the drop box. I didn't realize until the next day. The manager Inderpreet Singh called me and informed me he had it in his safe and could pick it up at anytime. Great Service. Thanks GuysRAYMOND L.

People behind the desk just don't seem to have any customer service skills. I rented 3 dollies, 2 weren't available, although I reserved them. It would be great to have that information prior to the day of a move. When offered an appliance dolly instead I was charged for it instead and was not told it was huge and would be hard to manage. I would not have taken it... I couldn't use it. My move took hours longer due to this issue. I'm sure they are lovely people at this uhaul, but they are either overwhelmed, or need some training.Cammie P.

I packed the truck at night and one of the internal loading lights didn't work. Also, I had to return the truck with a 1/4 tank of fuel but I received the truck with less than 1/16. In the middle of a late night move, I didn't have time to start off my effort with a stop at the gas station. I was very surprised that there isn't a person to help to assist you with how the trucks operate and function. Being left to figure it out on your own is very unsupportive and unprofessional. The after-hours equipment return website is flawed and does not allow uploads of any pictures. Because of this i could now complete my equipment return and i was billed for three days of rental when i only used one. Luckily the customer service was excellent and they dismissed the unnecessary charges but this is the third time this has been a problem and it needs to be fixed. I was/am using a samsungRowan S.

The wait to collect the vehicle at the beginning of the move was excessive. Despite the online registration and booking that says it saves half the time, it took 45 minutes to get through the 4 customers in front of me in line. I have one complaint. CSR at the front desk didn't tell me about the 30 CAD service charge for fuel fill up. They informed me about the charge of gas but didn't inform me about the additional 30 CAD. Provide first time users of 24/7 Truck Share the information they actually need in order to register, verify, and pick up the unit when they arrive. TWO additional references? Photo of my Passport - I have one and would have brought it with me if I'd been advised that these details were required. How secure are your servers to protect the DL and Passport photos from being hacked and abused? As it was I had to go in to the counter to get the van, which is more COVID risk than was necessary. I did not receive my email receipt, otherwise I'd have rated the actual dealer experience as flawless. Van was great, until it passed the 10000km mark and start flashing and clicking like the emergency lights had been turned on, all to say it needed its oil change soon. That's on GM, this was one of the cleanest and best UHaul rentals I've ever had. Merci.Geoffrey D.

We were 30 minutes early to pick up our truck. We ended up getting our truck 30 minutes later than or pick up time. We had 2 hour window appointed to us to move into our apartment which was cut short adding much stress to our move. Even thou this was a new vehicle both the drivers door and rear cargo door required a hard slam as both are slightly ajar. Also Ifulled the vehicle up to were it was suppose to be, I think depending where it is parked dictates the gauage. Ended up getting charged more for fuel that was not justified. First autotransporter I picked up had broken wiring so I was without taillights. It was dirty, and I had to lubricate the ratchets for them to work. Missing safety robbers on the chains. Returned the trailer and booked another one the next day to finish the task. No offer for a discount for my wasted time. In fact, the counter person, told me not to get insurance on the trailer (which I did), but also tried to charge me a full day rate for picking up the trailer 15 min early. I had to phone a Uhaul representative and get the charges sorted out right. This location is crowded, has constantly changing staff, can have delays up to an hr at times, and generally doesnt clean or maintain the equipment. This isnt the first time I've had problems at this location. I am very displeased with my experience.ROCKY H.

I was fraudulently charged 30 $for a 1/8 of a tank of gas! I left the tank topped at 1/4 of at tank as per the contract, with a photo of proof and they ended up sending me a bill for 30 $saying it was at 1/8 of a tank. I have used twice now and I find both times confusing. Having to return the keys, they have you wait in line for 5 people. Last time I waited almost 30 minutes only to find out I just needed to "drop the keys" why isn't there a box or something upon entry to just "drop the keys" Then I get charged 30 $for gas I didn't even use. Luckily I took a photo of the gas tank upon return so I have proof, but there wasn't a text or anything to upload the photo and km to cross reference. Will never use again after that 30 $charge.Kristin F.

There is NO parking and no one told me ahead of time! I had to park 4 blocks away during a wind storm!! Then trying to check in you have to find your vehicle from dozens via license plate. Not enough staff to hand out keys and self service was supposed to be fast . I rented for 4 hours but only had 3 hours use due to parking and wait for key !Laura G.

I tried to return the trailer on Sunday but the location was nearing close they didn't accept the trailer nor did they allow me to drop it there. I had to bring it back the next day. The person that checked me in was helpful however the encounter I had the previous day was not a good one. I had to keep my uhaul a second day because I needed it to go to Vancouver to pick up my moving, but the ferries were cancelled for most of the day so I could not go over and had to come back to Victoria. I called the uhaul location and asked if I should bring it back and them take it again the next day or keep it overnight. I was told to keep it overnight. I asked if it would be possible to have the extra day fee waived, the 40 $rental fee, since it was out of my control, they said to ask for the manager when you return it. The manager was not around when I returned it. I got my bill and it was now an additional 62 $since I ended up being charged the insurance on the second day too as well as all the taxes. I guess I get the feeling like it was never going to be considered, that I was going to get stuck paying for it, and they were brushing me off with the old, ask the manager line. The truck, just sat there, it was no loss to them , it just cost me 60 $to have it sit in a parking lot.ANNA H.

Very poor management, lack of communication between the personnel. The manager tried to blame a customer for a vehicle problem. Until waiting, a few customers left stating frustration. I regret, I should have done it too. Also lack of a single customer parking, be ready to have someone else with you to drive you to and from the business. These type of businesses shouldn't be allowed to operate without customer parking. I was at this location years ago and the service was much better. I do not recommend this location.Lazar B.

Storage area itself was fine but the organization was not. We were told at 7pm that the facility was closing when the website says we have access until 10. Parking and trying to find a spot to load/unload the truck was a nightmare. The online move out tool for storage does not function well at all, and the manager did not check up on this which resulted in me getting an email about owing the next month's rent as well as a late charge, and having to call corporate customer service because the location did not answer their phone. There are definitely mice in the building and I found their feces in some of my belongings. The uhaul lit was extremely crowded with vehicles when I wanted to unload my items, and I was lucky the truck I needed was right next to the storage loading/unloading area. Staff were very helpful in helping to move trailers Out of the way so I could actually back the truck up. Another person was unloading at the same time, but there wasn't enough room for them. The manager was the type of person who wanted to take every penny he could squeeze from you, but wanted to offer the most terrible experience at a uhaul in Canada. Compared to the uhaul storage I used in Ontario, the Victoria Topaz location was terrible. There were rats in the storage lockers. For some reason the facility was NOT secured and there were homeless people inside walking around. One time I went to remove my things from storage and someone had left all their items on the only elevator the previous day and instead of quickly cleaning it up so that other customera could use the elevator, they left the elevator closed off completely for 24 hours. Therefore, I could not take anything out of storage that day and it was a waste of time. I will continue to use uhaul but not this specific location until there isa a management change. Horrible experience. We will never use U-Haul again We booked a truck for contactless pick up so we could make a specific ferry reservation. We got a call a week later saying we have to pick it up Later in the AM and miss our ferry or the night before and return it late with a fee. I had to call back and fight to not pay for that extra Time that I was forced to take. I arrive at storage locker and they have no lockers available with the square footage I reserved. I was then told "reservations mean nothing" and that I could only have a smaller storage locker with 60sqft less. My house can't fit in it. The storage lockers are dirty and made of old wood with wire cage walls separating the units. We ran into another customer there who said they had a hug and rodent problem and were pulling their items out. After 1,5 hours of waiting for them to find a solution I was finally forced to drive to drive 45 minutes to a different storage company and pay more money to store else ware. They were AMAZING. Actual customer service, they gave us free flat decks because we had been Screwed around by U-Haul so long and they brought us out ice water to keep us going. I will be calling to get my storage locker insurance refunded and will also be inquiring about why our trip cost 1 000 $when the owner of a neighborhood store said he had never seen one over 400 $Vancouver to Victoria. The staff at the local facility do the best they can with a flawed system. I had numerous positive experiences with staff member Abhin Jose. Access via the card reader-operated door or through the roller door was numerous times out of order during my two-month use of the facility. It was subsequently fixed, but half my experiences at the facility were with broken doors (though not insecure). Such things happen. The real problem is with U-Haul's system. It allows customers to reserve storage online regardless of the facility's availability so that they can not honour everyone's reservations. I was one of the lucky ones; I'd have been hugely inconvenienced had I not been as I had a truck full of furniture from out of town. As it was, I was only moderately inconvenienced by the resulting disorganisation. I also had to pay a full month's rent for the final week of use as the system does not parse rentals for any less than a month. Charge as you will with your business model, U-Haul, but that isn't very customer-friendly. Knowing this now, I will seek to use a storage competitor in future who can charge pro rata at least by week. Finally, the problems of the U-Haul system are intertwined with the self-service problems online, which I won't even begin to address. Suffice to say this is not the facility's problem but the U-Haul organisation's. My overall experience and note of others' complaints leaves me with the impression there is little appetite at the corporate level to address such systemic failures so I have low confidence anything will change, nor indeed that this feedback will even make it to the right ears.Geoffrey M. | Expérience générale
