maria h | Premières impressionsThe only thing that was good about my experience renting from U-Haul this time was that the truck was large and able to fit a lot of my stuff in it. It took me 15 minutes to even speak to a rep once I arrived even though I was the next one in line as soon as I showed up, and then another 15 minutes to process my rental even though they only asked me 1 or two questions as I had already scanned my driver's licence the day before. They they proceeded to inform me that the truck I was taking was nearly empty and that I would need to get fuel before I could even use the vehicle to move anything. They offered me a $48 credit towards the fuel and told me that I need to bring it back at least a quarter tank. I expressed my disappointment to both the lack of fuel and long time to get the rental and I was promised a $50 credit off my bill which I have yet to receive. All this had me flustered so I forgot to check the mileage on the vehicle before leaving which was clearly marked down incorrectly as I drove the vehicle approximately 70 KM but when I returned the vehicle they told me I had driven it 214 KM. If they had said I drove 80 or even 90 KM I might have thought that I miscalculated but when they said it was more than 3X time what I thought I knew they had written down the incorrect mileage. Fortunately the gentleman who processed my return was nice about the mileage discrepancy and promised that he wouldn't charge me immediately but rather his manager would call me within the next couple of days to resolve this. I rented and returned the vehicle on Saturday, it is now the following Wednesday and I have not yet received a call from the manager. I did, however, receive an update bill that only showed 70 KM of mileage being charged, which is good, but the $48 fuel credit was for some reason reduced to a $10 credit despite the fact that I filled the vehicle to the amount they required of me, and again the $50 credit I was promised on the first day for my hassle is still no where to be found. I would not recommend this location to anyone as it is clear they don't know what they are doing and need some serious help.

Only variation was due to the mileage and that's on me for needing more trips than I originally thought. I will definitely recommend this location to anyone needing a uhaul rental.
Cody BAbsolutely terrible place. Went to pick up my trailer that I had rented for 11am and the trailer wasn't back until 12pm I had to sit and wait a hour when I had a reservation. Absolutely ridiculous

Allen LTwo gripes.. the unit was not equipped with a snow brush. If you're going to rent vehicles in the winter, equip them with snow brushes or stop renting vehicles in the winter. The floor in the back of the unit was an absolute ice capades set up. Something should be place on the floor to provide traction. I've walked through grippier arena ice.

Leonard CI spent 45 minutes in line at the rental location, waiting my turn to complete the paperwork. Finally got to my turn and on my way with the trailer. Only to find out 20 minutes later that the dolly I rented was not there. I didn't realize this when I left as I was understandably annoyed that this was a 45 minute process just to get the trailer. I rented a 26' truck 6 weeks ago from a different location, in and out in about 10 minutes.

DALE VThe unit they assigned to me had rottin stepunder door . When I loaded sliding door would not close. And latch not meeting the hole to lock to. Everyone too busy to come help when I called them. Had to go back to office . Girl gave me another unit. She found an other unit and helped me with my few boxes. Went back another day key Brock in lock .worst part to have the guy on the 15 of oct put payments on sure pay. Payment to come out of my account . Then I got interest bills because of no payments. I called Nicol and since the I received bills even to emergency contact. Trusting resolution I received another bill more fees . Not so happy!! If I get another notice of no payment and late fees I will remove my things and leave. At this point we will see if resolved. One more notice comes for late payments I will leave and go to court. I am very upset.

RANDY RI was lied to by both the girl that took the reservations on the phone and girl behind the desk they said it cost be $176,4 it came to be $349 with $125 deposit and to get deposit back I had to go into the office during business hours my card had to be present for refund made another trip 1,5 hrs one way get there no office they are a online office only. Did the return check in the guy was ignorant and rude. Returned key to service station then and I still have not received my deposit back and they charge you $20 they call convenience fee to get the money they owe you back boy that takes the cake. Never will I use u haul again they suck and I will share my experience with the world. You should be ashamed of your self u haul

Clayton LMy truck was not working properly… after picking it up, when i reached home and load the stuff, then i try to start it but i couldn’t because there was mechanical issue with batteries or something else.. then i called roadside assistance and wait for more than 2 hours for mechanic to reach me out.. even after mechanic solve the problem, truck was showing me same problem but somehow i managed to drive the truck back to u-haul store….

So if your place isn't ready yet or something comes out, you can store your stuff for the month for free and then come pick it up before the end of the month and it's free. 25hr access!! You get a swipe card. You don't have to remember some code of numbers, yay.. The manager was very human and sympathetic, about a situation in lieu of events and give me a deal.
Codie C | Premières impressionsThere seemed to be some discrepancy in how to leave the returned truck. As ours did not have a lock on the back, even though we were told to just leave all rented equipment in the back, we locked the dollies and blankets in the cab. The location seemed like an ideal place for looters to stroll by during the evening and help themselves to whatever as there was no security at all. We certainly didn't want to be accused of not returning all rented equipment. The app did not work for us either further delaying the return and necessitating a phone call to confirm what needed to be done and what had been received in terms of photos, etc. Somewhat disappointing since the pick up was smooth and other aspects of our rental went well.

Two of our workers went north yesterday and were tied up by raod constrcution only to be called and yelled at by your staff for being late. Perhaps you shoud look at the customer profile and how much they use your servcie before treating them like garbage.
Joshua WThe app wasn't working to fully prove my problem with the gas, it was said it was a 1/4 tank and it was a 1/8 maybe. Truck pulls to the right, steering is not a lined, runs hotter then it should and also burns gas faster than any truck I've ever driven.

Brian MI had asked for a normal dolly and a furniture dolly. This location had neither. I ended up taking an appliance dolly. That was a big mistake. The appliance dolly is very heavy and I could barely lift it into the box of the truck. We did not use it for loading or unloading.

I told them that's impossible but they kept on saying my card not good, anyway I walked away and you lost business. I came home and called my credit card and gave them heck they looked up my card and said there was nothing wrong with it it was your end that stopped the payment my card company even told me how many times they tried, so conclusion your employee didn't know what they were doing or lazy and never tried and didn't give a heck.so long story short you lost a very good customer which is really to bad

The door to the storage unit is almost impossible to open because it's so warped and it took all my strength to open it and I had to use an extra post to get the door up because I was too short, there are constantly homeless people in and around the storage facility with no security. I would not go to the storage unit at night because of this, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone ever the staff were friendly and helpful though

The Uhaul locker was dirty and we had to stand everything on pallets incase of water. I stored my furniture and boxes there 4 months. Everything was covered in dirt when I went back for it. I will continue to rent trucks but I will not use the storage again. Staff are awesome though!

However, first week of moving in, the unit across from me were drinking and doing drugs and screaming in their unit. Second time visiting there was an individual riding through the lot on a bycicle. This review is actually as a first time customer for their outdoor storage area, I have always rented from their climate controlled area. I technically rented on March 31, 2024, I moved some personal items in throughout the week. I was at the facility at least 5 times that week. I found a different unit in a different storage facility on April 13, 2024. I moved everything in over a one week period, and everything out in one day just two weeks later and this is why... As a long term customer of Winterburn Uhaul, I am shocked at how little priority is placed on their facility security when that is absolutely what the Uhaul business model runs on. Winterburn Uhaul does not seem to be well staffed and obviously has management in place that is overwhelmed or just doesn't care. As a company, Uhaul commits to its customers to provide a safe and secure storage facility in exchange for payment. As a customer, I am obligated to pay on time, not store hazardous materials, etc, etc. I follow through on my contract obligations. Why does Winterburn Uhaul not follow through on their contract obligations to their customers? Winterburn Uhaul runs a facility with a huge theft problem. Staff cannot state they are unaware as I have overhead at least six people complaining to them of theft since I moved in. It seems to be a constant issue as lock after lock can be visibly seen broken from the doors. On April 13, I noticed the door jam of my unit was broken. I hadn't been contacted there was an issue with my unit and only found out when I went to the storage unit in person. I don't believe anyone actually checks on units for problems, or if they do they aren't overly observant or communicative. Thankfully my unit hadn't been fully broken into, but it was only a matter of time before it was. People are actually living in these storage units. It was communicated with staff there are open fires happening at night beside visible bottles of propane. It has been communicated that many units have been broken into at night. Gates are visibly left open by staff for hours while they work between sites, each time I visited storage this occured. It's the customers who are left with their belongings at risk, lost and ruined. Yet Uhaul knows they have a problem and has ignored it?? Where is the accountability Winterburn Uhaul? I did speak with staff, who told me to speak with the Manager yet when I tried to communicate with Nicole, the Manager, I was brushed off twice and told that she wasn't available and/or unwilling to discuss the issues. I have not received a phone call back or an email but yet I'm to review my experience?!? My experience and review is this: honestly, if you value your belongings - go to another facility. Don't waste your time, your money, your insurance. Go somewhere where you are actually appreciated as a customer. It goes both ways, if you want my money start providing the service that I pay for.

Kelly F | Premières impressionsI originally intended to rent a storage unit in Edmonton at the U-Haul 50th street location. I rented a truck online from Friendly Mini Mart & Laundromat because it was only five minutes from where I live. I also reserved a 5 x 10 x 10 storage unit online from the U-Haul 50th street location because it was the biggest one that was available at the time. There was a notification online when I reserved the storage about reminding me to ask for the second month storage free when I rented a truck. When I arrived at the Friendly Mini Mart & Laundromat to pick up the truck on Friday, September 22, 2023, I mentioned this to the clerk and was informed that the staff at U-Haul on 50th street would look after that for me when I arrived there to secure my storage unit. When I did arrive at 50th Street location the following day on September 23, I discovered that the storage unit they had available would not be sufficient for my storage needs because it was too small. The lady at the counter did a search on her U-Haul database computer for bigger storage units at other locations and informed me that the Winterburn location had some available. She gave me a printout of these units and the prices as well as their phone number. When I asked her about the second month free option she informed that the staff at the Winterburn location would take care of that for me when I got there. Instead of calling the Winterburn location by telephone, I used the U-Haul app to reserve a 10 x 15 x 8 unit for the following day which was September 24, 2023. When I arrived at that location on September 24 to pay for the storage unit I was told by the female counter clerk that I did not qualify for the second month free offer because I had rented the truck in Edmonton and not at the Winterburn location. I don't think this is right and that it is very misleading because I was never given any indication prior that this was how U-Haul conducted their business in relation to qualifying for a free month of storage. In fact the 50th street location gave me every indication that I would qualify because I had rented the truck from the U-Haul company. Even though the lady at the sales counter at Winterburn was very pleasant and professional, and I don't have any problem with her job performance, the whole matter still doesn't sit well with me. I think that U-Haul failed in a number of ways in how they communicated matters prior to my travelling to Winterburn to secure the unit and that they should do the right thing and provide me with the free month. I was not made aware until I arrived there that I needed to rent the truck from their location. I fail to see the difference why it should matter where the truck is rented from. The lady at 50th Street location didn't give me a heads up about that either and left me with the impression that I was doing everything I needed to do. It's not an overly significant amount of money…just $190…however, I think that I entered into renting a truck and storage with U-Haul with the right attitude and expectations and they dropped the ball on their end. It appears that they have found a nice convenient loophole to deprive me of taking advantage of this promotional offer. I am thinking of making a complaint about the U-Haul company to the Better Business Bureau about the entire matter if the Winterburn location doesn't do the right thing in this regard. The only thing that is stopping me at this time is I am not sure if that location may try to blacklist me from any future business if I do file a complaint. I also discovered that I was overcharged $93,19 at the place I rented the truck from. I waited a week to see if they would reverse the charge but this morning I noticed that my credit card company had posted the transaction to my account without any reversal of that charge. Now I have to go and make a complaint to my to credit card company about getting that matter resolved which I shouldn't have to do if the U-Haul company hadn't overcharged me to begin with. Another thing that concerns me about Winterburn location is that there seems to be a number of people parked and lingering outside the security fence looking to drive in whenever a paying customer swipes their security code card. On just my very first two visits to my storage locker I observed there were two other vehicles that hurriedly passed through as soon as the gate was opened. It made me wonder who are these people and why are they waiting outside the security fence looking for an opportunity to piggyback other vehicles to get through the gate when a paying customer goes through? The whole matter didn't leave me feeling very secure about storing my belongings at this location knowing that there were perhaps unauthorized people driving around the storage lot who may not have proper access. I had to contact my insurance company as quickly as possible to add the storage unit to my home insurance policy in the event of break-in.

Irene P | Premières impressionsThe building access information was not clear enough to state the specific order of accessing the building and which one of the three access management portals to use. I called customer service at the toll free number availed and I was incorrectly informed that my reservation was cancelled (by one agent) and non-existent (by the second agent). I was insistent on being helped by a an agent who seal with access issues and I was transferred to a third agent who was very knowledgeable and quite helpful. He transferred me to the location GM who quickly realized my confusion and while on the phone with me, quickly resolved my issue in a matter of seconds. I wish I knew calling the GM was an option because two of three customer service agents were either not well trained and/or didn't care enough to resolved my issue. I will recommend the online reservation and move in to my family and friends because it's a fast and very efficient process with a caveat to ensure they are using the correct access portal to gain access to the building. In addition, I would like to commend the Ms. Nicole Goruk, the GM of the location whose help was the only silver lining in this process. She took time off her hours away from work to make sure my experience was swift by providing pinpoint accurate information by guiding me through the process. Give her a raise !!!
