The computer systems were down when we went to pick up our 9' Cargo Van, so we couldn't pickup our truck even though we had a reservation well in advance. Furthermore, the manager was uncooperative and unknowledgeable and refused to help us out. The only good thing was that I ended up getting a $50 voucher to me card because of the poor service. The van itself was also in good shape and served our needs when we finally did get to use it.

Then we went to Mountain View for trailer and again the lady who was supposed to be the manager, very unfriendly and pushing me to finish since she wanted to leave! The whole uhaul reservation was messed up by the phone when I made Reservation and they called me a night before telling me they don’t have my truck ready,...

The rate charged for gas is not understandable. I drove about 13 miles and it charged me $19 for gas, which is about 3 Gallon at your gas rate. Waiting period is long. Although I returned the truck in time, on the next day I got a call saying you are still having the truck, please call at xxx, which does not make any sense.

My drop off location got switched somehow to drop off at this location in the US when my contract clearly shows drop off in Calgary Alberta, Canada... not California. This location also charged my credit card an additional fee for “returning to the wrong location” even though I still dropped it off at the right location in CANADA! I understand the convenience of all locations to access your account should you have to drop off at a different location for whatever reason... but the fact that someone in another country can so easily access my contact and credit card info and add extra charges at will, will defiantly make me reconsider using Uhaul again in the future.

I would have rated it higher but decided to go with average because when I picked up the truck in the morning the lady helping was very nice but the service I got when returning the truck was not good! The guy was rude. There was a lady in front of me who just wanted to purchase 1 or 2 item and then there was a couple behind me. The guy finally came in from out side ( he seen us all walk in) and proceed to help the couple who was in line behind both me and the lady. Then when he finally acknowledges me he said for me to just leave the keys in the box if I am returning I told him I wanted to pay in cash and with an attitude replied " you want to pay cash for a one way!?" I told him it wasn't a one way and he said with an attitude "well that is a one way key!" I told him well this is what was given to us this morning. After that he took my keys and went to check the truck when he returned he told me from the door that the other guy was going to ring me up. Which I didnt mind.The person who rang me up was so much more friendly and didnt have attitude. I wish i would have gotten his name. The man who was rude was an older looking. If he is going to work in customer service he needs to be trained better or not work in the front counter at all!

1. Location is great, but there is no parking at all. 2. The truck that was given to me was veeeery old (think manual window). The lock was quite hard to operate (and no it wasn't just me, an employee tried too and said it shouldn't be that hard to close) 3. I had to wait 15 min to finally meet an employee, then she just gave me the keys and left. We didn't go over the contract or the truck or any mechanism or specificities. I had to wait for another 15min to meet someone else, who was much nicer and this time helped me

How about disclosing that a 24 hour reservation needed to pick up your own belongings. I had movers set up and purchased another plane ticket to be available to receive and unpack my belongings. I flew in at 2 am Sunday morning to unpack on Sunday at 11 to start a new job on Monday only to be told I needed a reservation to get my belongings. I could access them anytime but couldn't pick it up. I slept on the floor of my new home twice because UHaul didn't disclose this "secret". Then on Monday when the moving crew showed up at the scheduled time, the person at the store wanted me to bring my credit card, in person, to him to see. This was in silicon valley and he wouldn't take a payment of $5.08 over the phone at 5pm or let the delivery person pay him cash. Furthermore, the day before when trying to make the "reservation", I was transferred 5 times which means I told my story to 6 people and none of them could help. "It's not my department, that's customer service." Its not our department is all I kept hearing. Does anyone at UHAUL know anything? UBox and UHaul in Mountain View...not the right choice! Garco movers on the other hand were more professional and gracious to waste hours of their time dealing with these fiascos. Fortunately, they did not charge me for UHAUL wasted hours. Definitely recommend Garco movers.

We were called the morning of our move and told if we wanted the truck we ordered we’d have to drive an hour to pick it up, but a van is available at the location we need. Went to the location to pick up the van and it was misplaced. We were told it was being taken care of but I guess our representative blew us off. 1/2 later I asked the mgr for help, she said she had been told our issue was resolved & we were already gone, so she would see what the problem was. She was surprised we had been waiting. She was on the phone and computer for 20 min. before I stepped in and asked what was happening (nobody had told us ANYTHING to this point). She told us our van was delivered to the wrong location by the last renter and nobody had told this her. Meanwhile all vans on location were given away to people behind us in the (very long) line. An hour after we started she gave us a deal on a 10’ truck (which the website & phone rep. told us was unavailable) that almost made up for the suffering & frustration we endured. We finally left. We were forced to drop off the truck 30 minutes from our location and in the MIDDLE of San Francisco for some reason when we found out afterward there is actually a Uhaul 10 minutes from here. WHY ON EARTH IS THE UHAUL WEBSITE SO INCORRECT?!?! The only redeeming part of the entire episode was the manager at our location gave us a fantastic deal on our truck.

I reserved online, then got a call the next morning saying my reservation was unavailable. I then went for my new reservation, made on the phone, but when I arrived they told me that they had been overbooked and that new reservation was unavailable. Originally I wanted a 17 foot truck at 10am, and I ended up getting a 10 foot truck at 4pm. That was frustrating.

Arleen was extremely rude and demeaning. We booked a truck from 9-3pm and we arrived at the lot at 9am. The self checkout online site was not processing so we had to wait in line. It took us 30mins in line with only 2-3 people in front of us. Only one lady working the desk, until Arleen showed up from the back. When we got to the front, we asked if we can extend our reservation. She told us no, and that they would report the truck stolen if it’s not back at 3. What kind of company threatens their customers like that? Didn’t prorate our reservation either considering we had to wait in line for 30mins. I’d recommend she be fired or moved to a position with little to no customer reaction.

Let the customer know that if they have a "box" shipped from New York that 24 hours is needed to claim it. REnted van in Mountain View to get box contents from Santa Clara... only to find out notice had to be given.. but no one told us about the notice. Returned the truck 21 minutes later, with only 16 miles driven.. but got no credit for anything. Never again will use U-haul..

There was an less than an 1/8 of a tank of gas. It was a busy morning and there was only one rep helping six customers. I don't like surprise when the rep finalized the cost and then 12 mins later I'm charged again because the rep miss calculated something. That's probably because they were in a rush.

We had a good experience at the Mountain View store when we picked up the truck; however, we prefer to go to the Santa Clara store as it is bigger and it tends to move faster when there is a line. We have had issues in the past when purchasing supplies at the Mountain View store. While the truck was clean, the transmission needs major maintenance. It was making a lot of noise on the road.

The gas tank policy is not good. How can i keep 1/4 level of gas tank after driving for 400 miles. This is a big inconvenience and loss for customer like me, U-haul should make full tank policy. While renting i got 1/4 tank and while returning it was more than 1/2 tank full, there is no refund and no future credit for this.

The pickup experience was great. The agent at the desk helped us and was very courteous. I would have rated it 5 stars if not for the return experience. We were charged for double than what we had anticipated for dolly rental as we brought it back after the 24 hr limit even though we were asked to bring back the dolly before store closure rather than by a specific time. The agent could have been more empathetic during the return.

TECH UPGRADE. Cannot make reservation on website, directs to another part of state. Renting in person takes forever, would be easier to set up initial self serve info input. Person on phone misquoted me same 24 hour rate for 10' parcel truck (not true - only 8 hrs) as for van. Guy at location was very nice, but the whole thing was not efficient and the only reason I came to UHaul instead of Hengehold is that you were open later and I had a narrow time window.

We've used U-Haul before with no issue so we were very shocked and disappointed with how our reservation was mishandled. We reserved a 10ft truck 4 days in advance, called the day before to confirm reservation but when we showed up to pick up truck some how our resevation never went thru and our truck was reserved for someone else. Even though we had called the day before we still couldn't get the truck we reserved. Clerk was nice and gave us credit and even reserved a truck at another location, which sounds nice but when we get there same issue, no truck reserved and then when he found it someone had reserved a 26' truck instead and the 10' truck the 1st uhaul place promised and couldn't let us have a 10' truck over night because again we had no advance reservation. I can't believe with all the technology to help them manage reseverations your company managed to over book a truck Causing us to waste gas going to another U-haul across town only to be told we still don't have any reservation. I will definitely tell friends, family and everyone else who will listen about your terrible service and will look somewhere, anywhere else before I have to go thru this again

I rented a motorcycle trailer and on the day I picked it up, we found our tow vehicle couldn’t make the LED tail lights work but it would work fine with a utility trailers with older incandescent lights. The U-Haul personal was excellent and found a solution that would work with our vehicle and with what we needed to move but I’m disappointed that the original equipment I rented didn’t work. None the less, the trailer worked very well for the job.

Due to a break-down of our existing transportation (band equipment to go to a concert) two hours prior to the event (very stressful!), we needed a truck immediately. I used the app to ‘self checkin’ only to be told I neeeded to speak to a counter agent. When I went in (and this is not exaggerating), I found a long line of OVERTLY a gry customers at the long wait. I approached the socially-inept second agent to advise ‘I just need a key’ but he rebuffed me and advised I must wait at the end of the insanely long queue. I reiterated I just needed the key and he smirked (not kidding) and looked at my phone. “Ah”, and he got the key The truck was great. Dropoff was great. Pickup!? Yet AGAIN?!??! Worst customer experience I have had since THE LAST TIME I WAS AT THIS LOCATION which is THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE HAD SINCE ~1999!!!! I am NOT exaggerating. I will no longer go here. I will finally yelp it as abysmal. Whoever ‘manages’ it is a terrible person. Period. ( or if they aren’t a penny pinching money whore, they just suck at managing, then). This review is in regards to the U-Haul reservation system, not the staff at the local U-Haul pickup/dropoff locations, who were all friendly and courteous and nice. The U-Haul staff were courteous and helpful and tried to do what they could, but overall I had a number of problems with the truck and my experience: 1. I didn’t receive a phone call regarding my truck not being available as I had reserved/arranged until 4 PM the day before, which made it impossible to react to this problem and find another truck. 2. The 20 foot size truck that I had reserved was not available and I was forced to take a smaller 15 foot truck since the closest truck was an absurdly long drive of more than two hours round-trip drive to pick up. 3. Because I only had a smaller truck, it forced me to take several round-trip runs in order to move stuff that could’ve been handled with fewer trips in a larger truck. 4. I had to go pick up the truck from Millbrae, more than 30 miles away from where I had arranged/reserved pickup (Mountain View). 5. The light in the cabin/box didn’t work at all which made unloading in the dark difficult. 6. There was no windshield wiping fluid. My initial reservation with was Redwood City, which was made 2 weeks in advance for a 17'. This was cancelled at 7pm the day before we were supposed to move. After several calls we managed to get it rescheduled to RWC for a 15', which complicated our moving plans significantly. It seems silly to have a reservation system if cancelling the day before is possible.

This uhaul truck was absolutely too used. 130,000 miles on a moving truck is just too much. A very difficult drive and a profoundly loud cabin on the freeway made the move pretty miserable. Renew your fleet! Particularly when you’re charging $450 to move 300 miles!
