Terrible customer service. I was told to return the uhaul back to Van Nuys since “I was doing an in town move.” I moved from Sherman oaks to oak park California. Not even close to an “in town move.” I was charged extra for driving the vehicle back to van Nuys. Never again will I use uhaul or recommend this service to anyone. Unacceptable.

A bunch of bums loitering around this location, when you come in they bombard you trying to get you to get a truck from them. The manager Jeff was rude, uncourteous, and provided the absolute worst customer service i have experienced in a long time. Will never return to this location, just bad!

Renters beware. If you rent a van or truck with a car carrier and you want to return the car carrier separately, ask that they be rented with separate contracts. if they are rented on the same contract, you will not be able to return the car carrier without returning the van or truck at the same time.

I reserved a 10x10 truck. I submitted my credit card to hold the vehicle. When I went to pick it up, there were none available. It had been given away even though I showed up at the appointed time. What good is the reservation, if a vehicle isn't reserved?

The young latina woman who helped me yesterday was very professional and helpful. Joseph was rude, demanding and disrespectful. When I came to return the van Joseph was arguing with the manager on site and then with me, he even tried to hit me. I sent an email about this. I have been a customer of Uhaul for many years and I have never experienced any problems until today. When I got here the manager on site told me that I will be assisted for the return by one of the guys in the truck area. I had the van parked on the return section of the facility. Joseph the worker started arguing and yelling at the manager saying that he was busy, screaming from the other side of the parking lot. Then Joseph from the other side of the parking lot made a hand signal to me asking me to bring the keys to him. The manager told Joseph "the returning vehicle is at the returning section already, come to him he is waiting for you here" then Joseph started to argue again with the manager. Joseph was intimidating. He comes straight to me takes the keys as he is screaming to the manager. I asked Joseph to please stop screaming and to help me so I can leave. Joseph started to scream at me saying "you don't even know how busy and crazy it gets here" at that point I became upset. I told Joseph that he was being very disrespectful to his manager and to me his customer. He started screaming at me again saying "hey stop all that complaining I said to you to bring me the keys" then he comes with his chest up and made body moves as he was getting ready to hit me, he lifts both of his arms and comes towards me screaming "so what are you going to do uh?" The manager at that point asked Joseph to take off his uniform and to go into the office. Joseph went into saying "what the fuck bitch this is way too early for this" then slammed the door. They manager comes to me and apologized saying that he regretted the incident and that he was going to take care of me. Then Joseph inside from the desk tells me "here is your receipt sir have a nice day" I started to write this email, then he comes to me and apologized saying "I am sorry I was rude and I didn't mean to try and push you I have been having a hard time these days" I said to him that I was disrespected, and disappointed and I asked him why he was trying to hit me raising his arms and trying to push me with his chest. He apologized again and I left. Please take a moment and read this completely and understand that I am very disappointed, disrespected, and scared to be having the possibility of Joseph hitting me. I just had surgery and that would have been a real bad and painful experience. I have never experienced this before with Uhaul and I have used your services for many years and this must be addressed in the right way. You can contact me at 323-352-6472

Fix your website to pick up vehicles, you aren't able to click on the terms to accept it to move forward. Also hire more employees or have more employees working the location, there was only 2(One inside and other outside) and about 5 people waiting inside.

The staff was very friendly but there were only 2 of them. One was trying to run payroll and couldn't be disturbed. But he was out front, so it came across as rude. The girl who helped us kept getting distracted by another, very needy, customer so it ended up taking 45 minutes, even though we pre-registered online. I would suggest that if an employee is not available to help customers, he should not be seen by them. And if you are with one customer, the others need to wait!

U-Haul in general needs improvement. Terrible phone service, poor follow through and equipment in poor condition. Took three days and three locations to rent a tow dolly. Was repaired while we were picking it up and my husband had to repair the lights while we were traveling. This was a terrible experience. Employees at all locations try hard to help but, U-Haul , your customer phone lines and oversized corporate operation is no longer working.

We were late to everything we had to get done due to the poor customer service and the fact that there was only one person working. I would not come back here or refer anyone else to it.

We had an appt for 5:30 pm. The location was too understaffed to complete the job so I was told to return at 8 am the next day. I came at 8:30 am and the job was still not completed until 9:30 am. Additionally, the job was compelted incorrectly resulting in me being pulled over by the police because the lights on the hitch were not working. I was told by the police officer to get a refund because even he could not fix it, and he was kind enough not to ticket me.

When i came to pick up the Truck, it was dirty and tank was empty. The team was apologetic and said that they don't keep gas onsite, but still, it was an inconvenience as i had already hired help that i was paying by the hour. I got gas and proceeded to my destination to load my items and when evening came, i was disappointed to find that the drivers side headlight was not working which made it difficult to see because on top of that, the windshield was super dirty to see though. I had to postpone the evening move and re-hire guys for the morning to unload the truck! This location is understaffed and needs more employees on site and your vehicles need to be inspected and maintained more thoroughly each time before renting to the public.

I’ve been renting from this location for years, consistently. Unfortunately the convenience and service is getting worse in my opinion. Long wait time on Sundays both times I’ve rented in the past month with or without long lines? This rental I literally drove 3 miles according to the contract, put $3 in the tank and returned the truck 5 hrs after renting to see a completely ridiculous $20 gas charge after the employee who gave me the truck and I discussed the gas level was closer to 1/4 tank than the stated 3/8’s. Add to that I called the following day for the receipt and was told the truck was still out? Couldn’t get a call back after a half dozen calls to find out what was going on with this place and management? I would appreciate a credit for the false gas charge and some compensation or a refund for the 72 hour inconvenience. Thank you for listening.

Management need to assist the crew at this location by adding additional crew (even 1 or 2) on Sundays. This location lost a number of customers due to wait times. Also signage instructing or suggesting mobile check in should be up so the attendant is not overburdened with questions. THere were over 6 people in line when I arrived Sunday with a confirmed reservation and no shortcut to that service either. The guys Sunday were cool under pressure. Otherwise, the van was clean and the mobile rental process was very smooth. and is a very good idea.

I had a bad experience when I went to dropped the pick up truck. I parked the truck but I wasn't sure If Should have parked it where I parked it which was still inside the uhaul parking and went to ask an employee to make sure and it looks like he was about to leave and ask him really quick and he just said that he wasn't sure and ask him again and he still didn't care and just took off driving like crazy outside the parking. It was so rude and disrespectful as he totally didnt care about a simple question I asked and not sure how an employee can act like that and give one of the worst customer service I have ever received.

When I called the customer support phone number two days ago, I was told that I could park my car in the U-Haul facility and then pick it up when I return the truck. But, when I got there today, I was told I could not park there. So, I had to find parking in another location, which was rally difficult in that area. The outside U-Haul representative told me that U-Haul Headquarters has been giving that incorrect information to several other customers, stating that they can park in their lot, which was inadequate information. When I got there, there was a huge line (about 15 people) ahead of me and they had only one U-Haul representatives working that line. Several people in the line were completely fraustrated and were taking pictures of the line. I took several pictures myself. It was a clear indication that U-Haul did not care about how long it’s clients waited in line. When I asked the outside U-Haul representatives if I could use the air machine to place air in my own dolly. I was rudely informed that the U-Haul air machine was for only U-Haul dollies. While I was waiting in thiis crazy long line, several clients were talking about the Express Checkout, which everyone was under the impression was that it will allow you to avoid that crazy line. After installing the U-Haul app, I was later informed that the Express Checkout only collects your information. You still need to wait on that massive line. There were several people in line that were confused just as I was and assuming the same thing. After waiting for about one hour and half hours, I finally reached a U-Haul reprentative inside the store, who informed me that the 17 feet truck that I reserved two days ago was not available. They said they will give that truck to the person that reserved it one or two days earlier than I did. They offered me a pickup instead. Since I had no other choice, I took the pickup, but it caused me to do several trips, so U-Haul screwed me with the mileage. Also, it did not have a ramp like the 17 feet truck, so we needed to do much more lifting. Sine I have a bad back, I am now sitting on my couch with back pain. I later found out that the pickup I was driving did not have functional rear breaklghts, which was completely rediculas. After all the headache I endured today, I was offered a messly $50, which I thought was a joke.

Service was absolutely horrible. I had an appointment and waited until 12:06 to pick up truck. Only one guy working the counter while he and the other person (vehicle return person) were complaining about where the other worker was. There was no sense of urgency and it seemed the guy at the counter was working slow on purpose. As line grew and there was no acknowledgment of the wait. After receiving my papers I was told to wait outside for my pick-up. I waited for another 10mins while watching the guy near the propane area just sit around. I finally approached him for help and he was the guy that was supposed to bring my truck. My job is customer service. Management really needs to step up with the location. I will go out of my way to visit another box truck rental to avoid this mess.

My reservation was for 11:30am and I arrived 10 minutes early. That was a huge mistake on my part. I had to stand in line for approximately 45 minutes because of the glacial pace of the service from the gentlemen who were utterly inept and seemed to lack a fundamental understanding of the basic tasks they might be asked to perform. The gentlemen who helped me did not understand how to operate the rental software and asked me for the same information so many times it got ludicrous. Probably the highlight of the experience was the "supervisor" going on lunch for half an hour and since he was the only gentleman able to accept cash payments a lot of people got very bummed out when they realized it. Luckily the pace of the line was so slow that he arrived in time to struggle to sell a few people over priced cardboard boxes. Another great feature was the zombie horde of day laborers that populates this location. They decided to take a marijuana cigarette break from their tough day right in front of the open door of the store front. Way to go Van Nuys Uhaul. I'm sincerely impressed. I will never use this store again and I will do my utmost to avoid even using uhaul.

I got the phone number for a location near me from the U-Haul website. I made an arrangement to pick up and the gentleman on the phone asked for my address and location I wanted to pick up from. I confirmed multiple times. I got the confirmation email and it was for a location in San Jose, CA, nearly 7 hours away from me. I called back another number to sort out the reservation and they informed me that the person on the phone makes the reservation to the closest location to where you are located. I think it should be imperative to tell your customer that the reservation is 6/7 hours away from them. Luckily there was a location near me that had it at the time I needed. If they didn’t it would have been a big mess. I had people waiting on me and a lot of moving parts to what I was doing that day. But I wondered what happened with the reservation? It seemed odd.

I reserved a 26 foot U-Haul at a san Fernando location and then was told that morning it was returned so referred to the van nuys location and then after driving 15 miles out of the way and arriving there and having to wait in a line was told they didn't have a 26 foot either so I was forced to rent a 20 foot and had to do two loads which results in more time and more gas and more mileage. worst experience ever

I was completely ignored by your staff when i arrived. Another (rude) customer that came in after me was helped first. Only after I raised a stink about being ignored, was i helped. The truck cab was filthy and smelled of marijuana. The cargo area was not very clean and smelled horrible. Upon returning the truck, witnessed an employee yell at another customer because it was "almost time for me to be off work". Then witnessed the same employee throw a fit around the yard by slamming doors and throwing equipment and tools around the propane area (not smart or safe). The employee who helped me return my truck was very professional and somewhat embarrassed. Only positive time of the whole rental experience.

Misinformed when they spoke to me about the gasoline. When the employee marked off the scale at where the gas meter was when handing over the truck, he failed to mention that the meter is there for reference in refueling the gasoline for the truck. Although there is a no refund policy for overfueling, it could have been prevented had there been proper instruction that the meter was used for the purpose of marking how full the truck was but also to refuel the truck so refueling would not happen. When I spoke to the manager he said that he explained that to me when we sat to fill the paper work but he did not. He said the tank had to be fueled before returning and the picture when signing that portion showed, a full meter, I expected that was a reference to refuel. However, had he taken a moment to explain there is a chart which shows a meter and guides in refueling since there is no refund for refueling then I would have used the tools accordingly.

I made the reservation two weeks in advance at the Hazeltine location in Sherman Oaks. Changed last minute to Van Nuys. Phone app check in did NOT work at all, neither did the function to change my reservation. Waited for over a half hour at Van Nuys to get truck. Was charged for three days but called after 48 hours demanding truck back. Was told when I picked up in Van Nuys it was a "one way trip so I could drop off anywhere". On third day Van Nuys location calling demanding to know where truck was at, and expected that I go to Sherman Oaks location and drive truck back myself. YOUR COMPANY HAS SERIOUS OPERATIONAL ISSUES, and don't offer a phone app if it doesn't work. Does more harm than good.

I ordered online but had to wait a half hour with check in because there was only one guy working the counter. There were only 3 in line ahead of me. No one said be right with you. Or sorry we are short handed. Poor customer service.

The person that took care of us was very nice and polite. My complain is that I had to wait almost 1 1/2 hour to get my rental. This to me is unexceptible. I would not recommend anyone to go and have to wait this long. When I went back it look like it would have been a long wait too, but the nice gentleman that helped me remember how long I had to wait so he just took it from me without having to wait. Please hire more People. Everyone was complaining of the same thing.
