Service was absolutely horrible. I had an appointment and waited until 12:06 to pick up truck. Only one guy working the counter while he and the other person (vehicle return person) were complaining about where the other worker was. There was no sense of urgency and it seemed the guy at the counter was working slow on purpose. As line grew and there was no acknowledgment of the wait. After receiving my papers I was told to wait outside for my pick-up. I waited for another 10mins while watching the guy near the propane area just sit around. I finally approached him for help and he was the guy that was supposed to bring my truck. My job is customer service. Management really needs to step up with the location. I will go out of my way to visit another box truck rental to avoid this mess.

My reservation was for 11:30am and I arrived 10 minutes early. That was a huge mistake on my part. I had to stand in line for approximately 45 minutes because of the glacial pace of the service from the gentlemen who were utterly inept and seemed to lack a fundamental understanding of the basic tasks they might be asked to perform. The gentlemen who helped me did not understand how to operate the rental software and asked me for the same information so many times it got ludicrous. Probably the highlight of the experience was the "supervisor" going on lunch for half an hour and since he was the only gentleman able to accept cash payments a lot of people got very bummed out when they realized it. Luckily the pace of the line was so slow that he arrived in time to struggle to sell a few people over priced cardboard boxes. Another great feature was the zombie horde of day laborers that populates this location. They decided to take a marijuana cigarette break from their tough day right in front of the open door of the store front. Way to go Van Nuys Uhaul. I'm sincerely impressed. I will never use this store again and I will do my utmost to avoid even using uhaul.

I got the phone number for a location near me from the U-Haul website. I made an arrangement to pick up and the gentleman on the phone asked for my address and location I wanted to pick up from. I confirmed multiple times. I got the confirmation email and it was for a location in San Jose, CA, nearly 7 hours away from me. I called back another number to sort out the reservation and they informed me that the person on the phone makes the reservation to the closest location to where you are located. I think it should be imperative to tell your customer that the reservation is 6/7 hours away from them. Luckily there was a location near me that had it at the time I needed. If they didn’t it would have been a big mess. I had people waiting on me and a lot of moving parts to what I was doing that day. But I wondered what happened with the reservation? It seemed odd.

I reserved a 26 foot U-Haul at a san Fernando location and then was told that morning it was returned so referred to the van nuys location and then after driving 15 miles out of the way and arriving there and having to wait in a line was told they didn't have a 26 foot either so I was forced to rent a 20 foot and had to do two loads which results in more time and more gas and more mileage. worst experience ever

I was completely ignored by your staff when i arrived. Another (rude) customer that came in after me was helped first. Only after I raised a stink about being ignored, was i helped. The truck cab was filthy and smelled of marijuana. The cargo area was not very clean and smelled horrible. Upon returning the truck, witnessed an employee yell at another customer because it was "almost time for me to be off work". Then witnessed the same employee throw a fit around the yard by slamming doors and throwing equipment and tools around the propane area (not smart or safe). The employee who helped me return my truck was very professional and somewhat embarrassed. Only positive time of the whole rental experience.

Misinformed when they spoke to me about the gasoline. When the employee marked off the scale at where the gas meter was when handing over the truck, he failed to mention that the meter is there for reference in refueling the gasoline for the truck. Although there is a no refund policy for overfueling, it could have been prevented had there been proper instruction that the meter was used for the purpose of marking how full the truck was but also to refuel the truck so refueling would not happen. When I spoke to the manager he said that he explained that to me when we sat to fill the paper work but he did not. He said the tank had to be fueled before returning and the picture when signing that portion showed, a full meter, I expected that was a reference to refuel. However, had he taken a moment to explain there is a chart which shows a meter and guides in refueling since there is no refund for refueling then I would have used the tools accordingly.

Short handed.. I had 7am reservation...took till slmost 8am to gt 10 foot truck. Feel sorry for people like in line behind me!!!!!
