Unfortunately, the truck itself was old, the steering a little stiff and I got it with no gas bc the gas cap is older and not tamper proof so ppl keep steeling gas. The doors were constantly broken. After hours was cancelled soon after we rented our unit. Access cards never worked so I always had to wait in a very long line to get help. there's ZERO security at this location. the first van they assigned to me had been broken into and the gas cap was off (likely siphoned) and they had zero clue about it. the second van I was assigned was blocked in by multiple other vans so the employee offered to bring me the keys to a different one that was up front. as I read different vehicle numbers to him I discovered another van that had been broken into where the drivers side door lock had been popped out. after I finally got my van I proceeded to do my small moving job. I drove a total of about 15 miles and while driving back to the U-Haul location the check engine light came on and the engine started running very rough and loud. I'm glad this was a short trip because that van is definitely going to break down. this van just over 72 000 miles but it rode like it was about to cloak 300 000 and die. that said... the employees at this location were great and very helpful. the vans and the security of parked vans were the problem. the small cost of a high fence with barbed wire will avoid the high cost to repair the damage I saw on 2-3 vans on this one visit. I'm sure this is a normal occurrence because the employees response was "yea, they siphon the gas all the time".Steven H.

Apparently there have been a series of gas tanks being drilled out for siphoning. Unfortunately the vehicle I rented was one such and was nearly empty when I got it. I put 45$ in it which all leaked out while I loaded . Tank was empty again when I was en route to drop off. Hand to return to store and cross load to new truck. Also the app did not work when picking up. Nice people substandard app and vehicle. Result- a super long day with a sub standard experience.Marilyn B.

My drop off experience was terrible and I was charged a fee for gas that I shouldn't have been charged. I come here all the time. I've never had an issue with the gas because I'm well aware of the policy and I always make sure to fill up to the correct line. The man I was dealing with said it wasn't where it needed to be and I told him that I just checked and just put gas in it. He didn't say anything else and then said my receipt is inside. Every time I check out, my final charges are told to me, except this time. As soon as I started heading inside he drove the truck away, which was strange since it was parked off to the side in space B and hadn't been cleaned yet. Then per my request, his colleagues were looking for him and unable to locate him right away. I even asked to see the gas gauge myself and was told no. Instead he went and took a picture of the gas tank that I know wasn't from mine because it was no where near the mark that I filled it to. I filled it to 1/4th and the picture I was shown was approximately 1/8th of a tank. I had just put $30 in the tank. It for sure wasn't at 1/8th. I chose not to argue because there wasn't a manager on site. According to him, I wasn't charged the $30 service charge but I was charged $13 for gas. I'm very disappointed with this experience. Overall I've had a great experience coming to this location but I would like a refund for the gas charge.SHOSHANA P.

The staff was very nice but I had a poor experience with the vehicles. My first truck was backed into by another truck. By the time it was cleared, I got in and the gas had been siphoned so it was undrivable. I was then given a van that also had siphoned gas. I ended up having to take that van, hope it made it to a gas station, and put gas in myself. It took over an hour to pick up my rental due to these issues.Claudia M.
Everyone was so kind! My other storage unit was horrible and I had such a positive experience checking in with them to pick up my rental truck that I called back to see if they had any available units and they quickly helped save the day! Seriously went above and beyond to turn what could've been a horrible moving day into an incredibly easy experience. They even gave me a discount to enroll for multiple months at a time. The vans were parked a little close together and I needed to get assistance to have the van backed out of the parking space. This isn't really a complaintâ€¦the employee who helped was friendly and got us out of the space and on the road quickly. It may not be something that can be helped, as they have to fit the vehicles in the lot. If the vehicles are parked closely, heavier customers may require assistance.Eleanor B.

Before renting a pickup from U-Haul, I called to ask if it came with a 2 inch ball hitch. I was told that it was. I forgot to look for that when I got the truck, but found out a bit later that there was no ball on the truck, so I couldn't use it for towing. Also, when reserving the pickup, the $19,95 per day rate was confirmed. What U-Haul doesn't tell you until you're already gettint the pickup is that the impose a mandatory $11 insurance fee on you. My personal insurance would cover an accident, but that didn't matter to U-Haul, so the rental is actually $30.95, plus milage, plus an environmental fee plus tax, plus gas. Watch out for all the hidden costs!!John G.

The fuel in all of the trucks was stolen overnight. My truck couldn't start and the blind spot mirror is missing. The line were long, the representatives were helpful. He run across the street to get gas. All in all it took over an hour for us to finally on the way. I know this is U-Haul's fault, but they must do a better job at securing their trucks.Haishan W.

Update the technology and computer equipment for checking out rental equipment. The truck signed out was not accessible without moving at least three vehicles. Payment processing took six attempts because the equipment was not functioning correctly. The location manager took over the transaction and eventually had to go to another computer to complete the transaction.Lisa W.

The staff onsite were friendly and helpful and as this is the only U-Haul location in my area, I would still use it. However, I made a truck rental for pick-up that was an hour before the location opened. I was able to make the reservation and get instructions for using my phone for the pick up, etc. When I went to get my rental, the app wouldn't let me do anything and said I had to wait for the store to open. I lost an hour of my time and a staff member had to inform me that due to thefts, etc., this location stopped using the mobile pick up service several months prior. So not only does the company know of the problem, they haven't even bothered to take the location off the app or even inform customers that we can't use the service. I didn't even receive a phone call or message telling me I would have to change my time! This is a huge problem. What if I were a business or had clients waiting and this happened?! The check engine light and a trailer warning light were on when we picked up the truck. Also the coolant was low/empty. We got some additional coolant from the location, and they told us to just ignore the engine light. This did not give us a lot of comfort, but we went ahead and drove the truck. The process of renting a van was very smooth and very easy. The staff that I dealt with was professional and efficient. The only complaint I have is that the van smells like cigarette smoke once I fired up the vents. I was already on a ferry so I could not return it but next time I rent a vehicle, I will check that out before I depart. The smell was not apparent until I turn the vents on, I doubt there is anything that could have been done to mitigate the smell. My checkout process was very fast and easy, thanks to the person who was cleaning the vans. He was very professional and friendly and the whole experience was very positive overall.Kevin J.

This location was understaffed, with a lot of chaos going on as a result as the person checking us in coordinated with the other staff. Keys were misplaced for the vehicle we were to take, so we had to wait while a later return got cleaned. It wasn't clear, because of the line that was forming, whether it was our turn to get the van or not. We also were part of a group renting a storage unit, and the main doors to access the upper floors were broken both on the Sunday we picked up the truck and the following Sunday evening. So unloading meant a much longer trip and driving around the block twice.Elizabeth M.

Over the many years we had our storage unit, we had a really good experience. The access/loading area was often blocked by trailers making it a bit inconvenient for loading and unloading. Sometimes the access hours messed up our plans but not a huge deal. I would definitely use the space in the future if needed. This facility was convenient. My locker was on the main floor, so it was easy to get in and out. There were always carts available for moving stuff. The only downside is it's a busy parking lot. There were frequently cars or trucks in the small area that would be available for loading. U-haul started storing a trailer in the area available for loading. We got to the facility and the unit size I wanted available was $20 more than the advertising right behind the register wall. They shrugged it off saying that was the old price. When we discovered the unit access was not ADA accessible (I have Multiple Sclerosis) we asked to move into a unit I could easily access and explained that I cannot do stairs. She picked out an ADA accessible unit, even though it cost more I reluctantly agreed. She ran my card for $131,16 I went to make sure I could access unit. and when I finally found it, the second unit was already rented and locked. At this point, I was exhausted and frustrated. I was angry that these employees seemed to be completely indifferent or lazy. They said they thought I wanted to add another unit and that is why I had to wait for a refund. Waiting for this error made me have to borrow money for another storage uniting West Seattle that was bigger, cheaper and actually vacant. They honored the sale price and my stuff is now in a different West Seattle facility. I tried working with staff but I was brushed off. Unacceptable.Heather H. | Online Move In

The description for my unit is misleading. I only reserved this unit because the listing said there's an elevator to my unit. I still have to use stairs. There is also a rat trap in my unit. regarding my ranking of no on question y (recommending) u-haul storage - i would totally recommend based on Q1 thru Q5, but in my situation the rank is solely a cost reason. $194/mo is high for my needs (i really don't care too much about the contents anyway, and locker is bigger than necessary).... If it wasn't a free offer for the month, i would have had to find a much cheaper alternative.Michelle G. | Premières impressions
For no reason they always had a lock on our storage unit when I ALWAYS paid on time. The original worker I talked to said that paying on the day it was due meant it was late (excuse me?), another coworker over heard this and told him that wasn't true and they shouldn't be locking our things. They got into an argument in front of us. Every time we had to have them unlock our unit they took their time and made us wait around 30 minutes. When we checked in with our key card the alarm guaranteed would still go off every time, but also no one ever checked on us when it did go off, so the staff just truly doesn't care or checks on anyones unit when the alarms go off. The automatic lights turn off after 2 minutes, so when we were in our storage unit we would have to run down the hallway every two minutes for the lights to turn back on. The layout was terrible and was impossible to quickly get our things since there was no ramp to roll our things down from the second floor with. We had to carry our items to the bottom of the stairs and then wheel them to our car. On our last day there, there was one worker who was in charge of the storage units and she has been the only helpful worker for the few years I have had to use this facility, I wish I got her name (but it is whoever is in charge of storage currently (9/27/21)) and she is the only one who seemed to follow any process or protocol. When she tried any protocol it seemed all the other co workers there were "too cool" or maybe just high, and would get in her way to do the right thing. She asked the red-headed guy with the beanie behind the counter if anyone did a final check on our storage unit, and he replied "whatever they're just going to sign." The thing was, we were waiting at our unit for someone to come check because they said they were sending an employee to do so, after waiting 30 minutes a different worker came up to tell us we had to move our car because they needed it for a truck (even he was abrasive, and did not wear a mask and we had to ride in an elevator with him.) On our way back up to move our car is when the red headed employee just told us to sign, so we were very confused that he made us wait 30 minutes next to our unit at all just to sign a paper that our unit was "checked." The unit itself had zero light so we had to use flashlights or phone lights to see our contents. The service from the two GMs we worked with during the 11 months experience was very good. Always responsive and willing to help. Will recommend to my clients for sure.Tonya S. | Expérience générale

Move in was very easy but little information is provided as to where you need to enter. It also states vastly different hours on the website than reality. It was a major consideration when renting the unit only to find out it is limited to business hours, not the stated after hours access. I feel deceived and therefore do not feel I should be paying as much as I am. It is much harder for me to use this unit without the stated hours. My only problem is that when I went to move out after I had cleaned the storage locker out and it was move in ready for the next tenant I ended up having to pay for another month even though it was the third and my bill is due on the third or else I would be sent to collections so now I’m stuck with an empty locker, so if I’m moved out and it’s ready to go why would I need to pay for another month please tell me that? thank you,Kelly K. | Expérience générale

Overall experience at the facility was great. The negative is that I had to drive there to confirm/'rent now' for the booking. The online system only 'reserved' but not guaranteed the booking - that felt misleading and created a sense of unease had I not followed up prior to the date I expected my reserved two storage units to be available. The gentlemen I spoke with showed on his end the two units I reserved but they were not visible for me to rent now online so I had to drive there to complete the booking. I am hoping to get a different unit. It was not clear to me in the online process that there is no elevator access to my unit and the instructions to access the unit were not specific to this facility. Knowing how to get into the storage area is unclear. There are available carts but the entry had a clock curb which makes the carts useless. I ended having to load and unload my items multiple times to even get them from my car to the unit because of the curb and the stairs. Nothing about this is convenient or conducive to an efficient move or storage. I would like to request a unit that is on the ground level or elevator accessible otherwise I need to cancel my service with uhaul.COURTNEY K. | Online Move In

My comments are based on 5-6 years of renting units from Uhaul and for the most part having awful experiences be the norm instead of the exception. The current manager has been exceptionally polite, professional, and helpful - Uhaul would be lucky to keep him. The flooding of my unit was handled poorly, but worst of all was the management's treatment of me at that time when I was not the cause of the flooding and damage to my stuff. I should have been compensated properly for the damage to my stuff, but I just am too exhausted to do all the work that should have been done by Uhaul to get reimbursed properly. It would have been nice if Uhaul had actually given me free rent for a while after that happened considering I was a customer for years and was a customer for years afterwards. The $500 wasn't nearly adequate to compensate for the damage and stress it caused. It would be nice if the hours to access our units were extended to 8pm, but it doesn't matter personally since I no longer have a unit. I am glad that the location hasn't shut down as it is convenient for all of us in West Seattle. I hope the friendlier service under the new manager is kept up - it's a nice change. In the past employees often were not trained adequately and couldn't do fundamental tasks involved in the job and it was extremely frustrating if a manager wasn't around to handle it.
