The staff (thank you Nick and Matthewl) could not have been more helpful. Our light connection didn't work and they worked on it, opening every fuse section and panel, until they found the problem and fixed it. They made sure we got onto the highway with a safe vehicle. And they had a great attitude through it all. Je les recommande fortement.
Benjamin SMy pick up location did not match that on my reservation. The lady I spoke with was very rude and non-sympathetic. I was only notified the night before of this change and had to change all my moving plans. It was beer very inconvenient.
Ginger OI haven't been treated this well in a long time. I was nervous taking on a trailer, especially after calling the national u-haul call center. I was told I would have to do the hookup myself. I was worried about safety. However, the man in charge at Marginal Way in Portland, Maine took such ownership making sure my trailer was hooked to my car with care and accuracy. I couldn't believe how exceptional this guy was. I still talk about how good my experience was, especially in light of the typical attitude in Portland, Maine which is "I will pay attention to you at my convenience". This guy was all about the customer. I hope he is treated well in the future.
Bruce BUpdate to my previous comment: opened the box at home; part number on the box was correct, but the wrong hitch was enclosed! Called store, will return hitch tomorrow, but they don't have the correct one in stock, will order, but it means yet another drive to store once it arrives! Pretty disappointing all around!
Peter HThere is only one person working the front counter, IF they're not out back. Waiting 15 to 20 minutes in the store , to pick up keys is ridiculous! When I brought the key back, "Jordan V" took my key. I was the 6th person in line and was there for ten minutes, before he did so. The employee being the counter was still working with the same customer as when I walked in. When I received my receipt online later that night 4/13/24, Jordan had put in the computer, that I didn't bring the truck back until 4:59, so he charged me for an extra day!!! I have my gas receipt from the Big Apple (2 minutes from U-Haul), that's time stamped at 11:29!!
Zanetta SCould you make the app work? The app wouldn't allow me to check out after hours, which cost me money because I had to pay for an associate to check out the truck. The app is supposedly designed to assist with this, but it failed to geolocate my location.
Amamihe OMy appointment was for 8:00am. Dropped my car off lastnight @ 6:15pm 4/12. Heard absolutely nothing from uhaul regarding my car,until the service was completed at 2:56pm. Was told leading up to the appointment by a uhaul tech that my car should have been done by 12:00 noon. I had to frantically reach out to multiple friends to find someone available to bring me to pickup my car when it was finished. I live in Westbrook and could not walk to Uhaul with my back problems. This is my first frustrating experience at this uhaul location. In the past I have always been contacted regarding any information/updates available for my services being performed.
Joe RI have a complaint about Tom at the marginal Way location in Portland, Maine. Tom is a piece of shit. He treated me poorly. He was belittling, rude and he has no customer service. check your cameras on 3/30/ 2024 around noon time. He should not be working with the public. Merci

David FThey were disorganized and did not seem to know what was going on, and where their rental trucks were. The mileage on the truck was not what they said it was. I had only used the truck 20 miles and they said they would take care of it the mileage difference. When I got the receipt for payment they charged me over 100 miles which was $116. The cost was supposed to be about $41.

Edgar AThe installation went OK. It seems like the installer did a good job. However, scheduling is a nightmare. In the phone menu, selecting hitch installation, just takes you back to the main menu. I called several times, and ended up picking another option besides hitches. You always get transferred to corporate scheduling office and twice I got scheduled for times that weren't available. Once I drove almost an hour to an appointment in a different location, only to be told "we don't do hitches on Sundays". This time, I had an afternoon appointment on Monday. I got a call from the installer in the morning telling me that he doesn't work Monday afternoons. I had to reschedule again. Today (Saturday - busy day at UHaul), I had to wait in line for 20 minutes to check in. At least I got the hitch installed today.

MOLLY WTruck was only 1 quarter full of fuel when I picked it up and the team did not explain that I needed to complete a check in on the phone before I left. I came back that afternoon to inquire about the quarter tank and the cashier said there was nothing she could do if the link expired. Then I went to pick up my auto transport and the truck's electrical port was not working with the trailer lights so I couldn't pull my car. The trailer attendant asked if I had time to unload the 26 foot truck into another truck instead of offering to get movers to do that for us. I also paid for movers through u haul to get the truck loaded initially

Alan VThe entire time I had my storage unit there were multiple trucks parked directly in front of my unit's door requiring me to shimmy through between 2 trucks or completely around a line. When I brought it up to the office I was told that there was nothing to be done , but assured that by the summer it would be cleared up. That was this past summer and it never was. That made it pretty difficult to add or remove any items from the unit. One time I went to my unit , opened it and saw puddles of dirty water inside. Went to the office and was told " oh yeah that's how we clean. They use blowers and stuff gets in" I'm only now after moving out able to see the extent of the issues. When I cleaned out my storage unit two days before my last bill was due and went back to the office to let them know I was told everything should be all set. And then I just got charged for another month! Worst U-Haul experience I've ever had. And I am still waiting for my last ( current months refund)

TARINE TOn Thursday the 29th of Feb. the gentleman behind te counter was curt, a bit rude, and had no time or inclination to explain to me why I HAD to have the truck back by 9:30 am. I was traveling a long distance and was worried I would not make the 9:30 deadline. I asked him if I got back an hour late would I be charged for another day. He said "absolutely". I tried to explain my concerns and he would not listen to me. Even though I rent a storge unit from u-haul, next time I need a truck I will be taking the time to get one from another company.

The representatives name was Linda on my confirmation number 71431178. Linda was very nice and she is a great asset to Uhaul. I wanted to let you know I have rented equipment before with Uhaul and have always had a great experience. I will use Uhaul again when I need anything.
Jonathan KApp is very buggy when trying to return after hours. Kept resetting on the "submit condition photos" step, which makes for a pretty frustrating customer experience, especially when the same page on the app says "you will be charged $20 if you do not complete this and an agent has to check the equipment in the next day".

Since I lived far away and had no other options I had to pay. I would like who ever reads this to investigate this matter. Your company shouldn't promise a storage unit free and then when we get there thats not case. The unit was very clean and spacious but that doesn't make up for the fact your agent was extremely rude, refused to look into the matter and kept pushing payment for the unit. I feel you have good company but this false advertising has made up my mind never to use you again. You must remember you have other competition out there. Thank you for your time

Had to rent a second unit last second, because the misleading description of the initial unit I rented. Supposedly I have a refund pending, since I never opened the unit that was 5' off the ground, but we'll see. The facility itself is maintained well enough, but I wouldn't recommend renting from a place where some lady yells at or insults her coworkers over the radio (whoever was working evening of 10/30), and the big bearded fella that smells like a wet ashtray just ignores questions and talks over you (morning of 10/31). I'm in a tight spot, so opted to just keep my unit. But given any other reasonable option that time of night, I would have much rather dipped and rented elsewhere.

However, another younger employee, male, who had helped me earlier in the year, went beyond the call of duty, helping back my large 26' truck into the bay for me, and answered any questions with grace and accuracy. Once I returned the truck to the Augusta facility in Maine, the customer service was so good that I mentioned my experience with Tom in Portland. Both of them had stories to tell about his approach to customers and fellow employees, none of it complimentary. My only reason for bringing this up is that folks moving are already under stress. The more U-Haul employees can ease that stress level, the better. As one who has worked in customer service my entire career, good customer service reaps rewards on down the line.

When you make the reservation it's advertised as 24hour access then when you get the confirmation you are informed access is only until 10pm. In reality, if you have a drive up unit you may access it 24hours(or I did several times) even though they tell you you can not. They should refine their communication with accurate information. Also I moved out the week before my billing date and was still charged so now I have to track down a refund. Even though I called to make sure I wouldn't be billed I still was. Not at all convenient. Other than that everything was ok.

Their solution was a can of de-icer and a stubborn Russian. After an hour of trying to pry the lock, with little results, the Russian finally conceded that a torch or grinder was in order. Once he left, I was able to pry the lock enough to get access. Once Russian guy returned, noted he only had a screwdriver. No torch. No grinder. We already had a screwdriver. Thank god I got the lock to budge.

This prohibited the full use of the space of that storage unit. We were unable to navigate the corridor and place furniture in the unit. We ended up having to rent a second unit. Multiple people were clearly living in units. The area reeked of stale cigarette smoke,astray and mold. The place literally look like a garbage dump.. Literally experienced a significant release for stress checking out of the units. I will never use the storage facilities again

I hate going through a call center- this needs to change or my storage place needs to answer their phones so it doesn't automatically go to the call center. I called at least 25+ times through the days and NEVER EVER got a person at my storage place, it always went to the call center. BAD BAD BAD.

My only complaint is that there is a set of stairs leading to the 2nd floor storage units with no elevator, which is not super convenient. I suggest getting at least a freight elevator to enhance this experience. I do like the access hours, however.

Our reservation for the storage unit done online wasn't showing up in the system and so we had to book again online while there. There were no units of the original size we had gotten so we ended up with a smaller one and we barely were able to cram everything in it.

Google maps had me come around the building go back up Co Street, I drove in the drive-up storage area and proceeded to find my way to customer parking. Upon reaching the front desk, Tristan explained that that was not in his normal position and tried to assist me the best he could. I told him I rented a locker online and needed to be shown where the locker was. He was not trained on the web self Storage. In hindsight he should have also asked me for my ID to verify who I was. I recall that I did get the code on the U-Haul app and sign up process and brought up the information on my phone. Tristan asked to see the code. He than showed me around the building to the indoor storage units. He showed me two keypads one to disarm my unit the other to enter the facility. He proceeded to answer all my questions with knowledge and was very helpful. Tristan explained that this location was temporary housing the vehicle repair as a new repair facility construction is ongoing. Tristan deserves recognition for being able to handle a position outside his own and providing me a good experience.

Otherwise, everything about the UHaul experience I disliked - from the antiquated and frustrating way I would get charged a late fee despite you having my credit card on file, to the multiple times I showed up and my unit was locked by you despite my bill being paid in full every month. (Again, you had my credit card that has never expired or stopped working.) When I arrived I was given a unit that had a lock on it. The manager walked out to the unit with me and removed the uhaul lock. She was very helpful. It took 45 minutes to get it all worked out and I had movers waiting and getting paid to wait. The man who took back the truck, Griorgi? Was super friendly and quick.

I went online and put the payment on auto, then received a few days later a letter telling me that if I put the payment on auto The late fees would be refunded. They were not refunded and I got another late fee the next month for one unit which is when I found out that each unit was charged separately. I went in and explained and the single late fee was refunded, but I was told that it was to late to refund the first two.

Only because of my experience driving trucks was I able to prevent what could easily have become a catastrophic accident. And the fellow who rented and hooked up the trailer in S. Portland needs serious training in properly securing the chains. You need guys like RYAN on the job and the schmuck in Brunswick needs to find a job washing dishes. The units were not clean when I took possesion and by design are not well sealed from environmental polution, risk of contamination from adjacent units. You charge for EVERYTHING connected to your business. The least you can do is to provide a commensurate service. Doing otherwise labels you as arrogant because you are the "only game in town". Your attitude is "take it or leave it". Have heard it more than once. Now I know first-hand.
