When I went to return the truck after hours, the site did not work. I tried calling customer service but got transfered around for half an hour and nobody seemed to know how or care to help me. I eventually dropped the keys in the box and called the next day to make sure it was recorded as returned. Customer service was supremely lacking.

Things have changed since we used U-Haul 3 years ago. I am certain I am not alone in my experience. I have returned a vehicle after hours in the past and never had to go through this kind of crazy. I wish I had been explained to, that I would have to take pictures of everything (which I always do anyway), but I never thought to take a picture of the FULL gas gauge, which goes down to empty if the truck is not running. I should have been told that even though the contract was with me, because I had my son do the driving, that I could have saved over 30 minutes of crazy mind blowing stress if I had been told that the DRIVER, not me the payer, had to log in for return. After logging in to do the return, we had to upload photos and each time, required more transfer of pictures from my phone to his phone (this was after 30 minutes of trying to figure out why my location services, which I always have OFF, and turned it ON specifically for this purpose was not working). It dawned on me, after calling the company for help, in that he was insisting I needed to return the vehicle myself, that my son had to provide the information. I was sitting in this correct return spot for the better of 45 minutes, minus time to refill my own vehicle down the street while trying to figure out the problem. Long story short. We wasted 45 minutes of our lives going in and out of the return form, in and out of the return form, calling for help that is written in the fine print somewhere, when it could have all been explained very simply at the time of pick up. I hope someone else can learn from my experience. Before leaving with your vehicle - TAKE A VIDEO - VIDEO OF EVERYTHING. Upon return - TAKE A VIDEO OF EVERYTHING - INCLUDING YOUR LOCATION (because "the next family will need to know where to pick up this vehicle"). Before you log into the site to return your truck, make sure you have snapshots of all parts of your clean and tidy truck, a picture of the gas gauge on full, the miles on the truck, and your location because you will have to start the process all over if you do not have them to upload from the phone of the driver - the DRIVER! Or - you can pay the company $20 to verify your return the next day, and maybe agree with your opinion you returned the truck full and happy. I am heading out to buy a truck and covered trailer. Have a nice day!

No staffing in the building at 8:00 am. Customers lined up and waiting inside the showroom waited 40 minutes before a someone showed up to work. I went looking for someone and found no one! Terrible service, needs to be addressed

- Employee does not communicate when take action. Just walks away to inspect vehicle without telling me. Rude and jarring experience. - Employees eat their breakfast on the counter desk - Topped off gasoline when I returned the vehicle. Ended up paying $15 when it should only have been $3-4. Full doesn't mean full at UHaul apparently. This means that I received a vehicle that was not full and ripped off. Dishonest.

The recent snows probably take credit for the few customers I encountered when renting/returning the trailer. I'd mentioned to my mother that the rental process (LONG waits; extensively drawn out) is far worse than the cost. Usually an hour or more total - got lucky this time.

Good location. But the employees are not very personable, except the propane guy. I know they are busy, and people needing trailers are moving which can be stressful. But UH needs to step up their customer service.

Using the express checkout process, had to walk the parking lot to find the truck. There are lots of trucks on site... some were up front and some way in back parking lot. Then found it in the back lot and had to walk back to the front to go to office to get the key. Lots of walking in the cold.

Yesterday I rented a truck for about an hour and a half and drove 33 miles and later that day my bank account was charged over 400 dollars and said I drove approximately 900 miles (which over drafted my bank account). Today I went in requesting a full refund and Joshua handled the situation very well. On the other hand, Mary Willey, who handled checking the vehicle in after I drove it, was there and once Joshua left to check the actual miles on the truck took my information sheet and stated "I hope that wasn't me who did it...dang it was". She didn't apologize for the inconvenience or anything... instead she went on her phone. Whether it was the work phone or her personal one I'm not sure. When Joshua came back she said to him "yeah, I royally screwed up that one", again no apology and only seemed concerned with how bad she messed up and the repercussions from the business point of view. I work in customer service and think that I walked in there level headed for getting charged over 400 dollars than expected - that being said Mary should have been the one handling the situation better. I did get a total refund via Joshua and like I said he handled the situation very well, but I left there feeling equally as mad as I was when I first saw the charge in my bank account because of the disrespect from Mary. I really wanted to walk back in there to make her realize that yeah she could have gotten in a lot of trouble from management and that's what she was concerned about but a mess up that big made me have to run to the bank before my shift at work today to avoid another late fee I would have gotten from getting gas for the truck and made me have to drive to the location again to deal with it. If this could get brought to her attention from a management standpoint I'd really appreciate it. Thank you, Cari Lindsey

There were times when the number of registers available did not match the large numbers of customers therefore the wait for service was unusually long.

When I first arrived I had to wait as the person working there was exceptionally slow. Then when I got up there was no greeting just asked for my id. When he brought the truck around it took him a while and I heard an odd noise but didn’t think anything of it. Then as we were about 15 minutes down the highway a service light came on to service the traction control and the abs brakes. Then a ticking started about 20 minutes after that. The shockes in the vehicle were none existent. Then when we went to start the vehicle for our return trip it wouldn’t start. It took a few times of attempting to start the car for it to finally turn over. We expire MED this a few times during our day and then the check engine light came on. Finally, when I finished filling up the truck with gas to return it the car would not start at all and began to produce a smell from the engine. I called the helpline to state the vehicle was not starting and that it would not be returned by 6pm. The person on the help desk seemed unengaged and said he would make a note and did I need roadside assistance. When reiterating that the vehicle was not starting and unless I should leave it at the gas station I would need roadside assistance he transferred me. I waited on the phone for about 5 minutes and no one answered. I attempted to start the vehicle again and after trying for about 10 seconds it finally started and I drove it to the uhaul store. Finally, the headlights on the vehicle were nonexistent. I had to turn the high beams on to be able to see and even that didn’t make much difference. I am incredibly upset with the fact that I was given a vehicle in such poor condition and should not have been on the road. It was obvious these issues were being experienced before I was given the vehicle and should have been noted by Joshua, the person working, and I should have been given a better vehicle. I will be sharing my experience and discouraging anyone from renting a vehicle from the 28th street location in the future.

I was really disappointed with the customer service I received from the gal that assisted me. She didn’t greet me and didn’t smile once or ask how my day was going. She appeared to be annoyed that she was working. There wasn’t even a thank you. I don’t know if this is normal but I needs to be a focus on improving customer relations on the front lines.

Picking up via the app is an inconvenience. I waited 5 mins for the verification and during that time went inside to finish with the store employee. Hopefully it’s better and faster most of the time, but that was not my experience.

It's winter in Michigan a snow removal brush would have been nice. There wasn't one and I had to wait for the pickup truck to warm up and for the windshield to thaw before I could go anywhere. Everything else was fine.

Steve is the only reason I will go back to this location again and use Uhaul in the future. His boss was terrible and would not listen to him or myself. Maybe it was a bad day for her but she is a toxic manager and left a bad impression on me. Steve was great and listened to why I had to change my plans and did what he could to help.
