The pre-rental hitch/trailer inspection was done in advance and we were given the clear go ahead. However, at the time of rental (in MN) there were electrical issues where lights were not working in multiple trailers, so it was determined to be an issue with the vehicle itself. This should have been discovered and dealt with at the time of the pre-inspection, but was never pointed out. In fact, this location didn't even try to hitch a trailer to full test it, and this would have been found at that point, but for whatever reason they didn't do that and just "checked" the electrical wires. Should not have given the thumbs up. This issue was resolved in MN at the time of rental, we fixed the vehicle, and were able to finally proceed with the trailer rental. If we hadn't had the time or resources to do this at the time of rental, we would have been out of luck. This should have been caught at the inspection so we could have had more time to fix this.Joseph W.

I chose to do mobile check-in to â€œskip the line.â€ But found out I still had to go into the office and wait in line for roughly 20 minutes before simply getting a key. Why don't they use a lockbox or access code for mobile check-in? There was only one person working the counter, no spot for â€œmobile check-inâ€ and seven people in line ahead of me. Wasted time outside checking in on my phone and going back and forth between the two properties trying to find my vehicle, just to go back in line and wait for a key. Very inefficient.Victoria W.

The staff here was very nice and I don't blame them at all. However, I had a terrible experience with my truck. It smelled very, very strongly of cigarettes. It wasn't as if someone had smoked a cigarette or two in there--it was like walking into the home of someone who has smoked two packs a day with the window closed for 50 years. There wasn't another truck available so I just had to deal with it, and it made me very sick, to the point of nausea and having to cut my plans for the truck--hauling old furniture from my garage--short, because I was too sick to continue on. This really sucked, and I've never in all my times renting a UHaul had a truck smell like cigs. That said, I was happy with the price of the rental and, like I said, the staff were very nice.Kevin S.

I had ordered a utility dolly that was supposed to be in the van on pick up. It was not but I did not realize it until I got the van to my apartment. A friend had to drive back to the store to pick it up as I did not want to add extra miles that I would be charged for. All employees I interacted with were great.Evening D.
Make it clear about checking the gas before heading out. There was nearly 10 gallons fewer in the tank than what the clerk noted on the agreement. I only discovered it while on the way so I took a picture and sent it to Service who noted it on the agreement....though it didn't register with the Drop-off folks as they put 9 gallons in and added it to the bill. The steering on the truck was scary, to say the least. It was SO loose. The wheel had to be turned nearly 90 degrees to the right just to go in a straight line and the steering required constant correction because the truck would start to drift left and right. Also, it's nearly impossible to tell how much gas you've used without the extra tick marks on the gauge in the truck. I thought I had put in the correct amount of gallons but turns out I wasn't quite on the 3/8 th line. There's only a 1/4 line and 1/2 gallon line and then you basically have to guess where it might be. Why not just keep it full and have people bring it back full? I get whyâ€¦so people will put in extra at their expense, but it seems like a shady business.Stephanie A.

My phone died as soon as the dropped the uhaul off and I need a taxi. The uhaul representative refused to help me call a cab. Very disappointed with this experience.Chris W.

I need to rent a truck once or twice a year; empty my dad's house, move a kid to college, move large artwork. I have used several different rental companies in several different cities and states. UHaul has always had the freshest equipment, and the best crews working the place. And I'm proud to say that the UHaul at 411 Marginal Way in my town of Portland, Maine is the best of the UHauls I've used. If you need a truck, give them a try first.Martin B.

Reserved a 26 foot box truck and still waited an hour and a half upon arrival I had contracts lined up for my business and I didn't understand why we were waiting around with a line wrapped around the building on top of that U-Haul did not do a pre-trip inspection luckily nothing went wrong typically in the trucking industry you do a pre-trip inspection it doesn't make sense to give a truck away if you don't know what's going on with it the truck ran rough.Michael D.
This locatiom was great! Waterboro....forget it very horrible. I made my reservation TWO weeks agead of time in waterboro. They called me the DAY BEFORE i was supposed to pick up the truck and said they didnt have one for me. I had to spend 45 minutes of my reservation time trying to get the app to work. It required multiple forms of identity verification but kept resetting after the page was submitted with the required information. It didn't even end up going through, but I was able to get the number of the truck and then had to go inside to pick up the key. I waited for a long time to get the key as there was another angry customer present. Once I completed my move and went to return the truck, the app had the same problems and I spent over 30 minutes while it kept refreshing and asking me to upload photographs of the cab and back of truck. I had to take these same photos OVER 10 times. App sucks.Leah S.

1) The gas gauge in the vehicle was faulty. It read 1/8 tank full when it ran out of gas. I had to walk to a gas station and buy a tank to fill and walk back to the truck. 2) I dropped it off with more gas than I picked it up, but I was charged $130 for fuel. When I went back the next morning at 7AM, Tuesday March 31st to dispute this, the man said, and I quote, "IT WAS 100 % YOUR FAULT. When you picked up and inspected the vehicle you changed the gas level in the app from 5/16 to 7/8." No, I did not. Why would I do that?Nicholas J.

Your front desk staff was so bad I was there crying last night at 7p trying to move my items into storage. She was confused, explained things incorrectly, and left out pertinent information like the loading bay closes at 5....not 10. I had to go back to the office a total of 5 times for various reasons because she was so so bad. She said the key card was activated, it was not, she lost my account and couldn't find me again somehow, she said there would be a lock in the unit and had me put away the one I was purchasing....there was no lock. Understaffed, and I called 3 times and waited on hold 20 minutes and when I got through was told I didn't have a unit waiting even though I had confirmation and a reservation number from my online order. When I arrived I was given a unit that had a lock on it. The manager walked out to the unit with me and removed the uhaul lock. She was very helpful. We were told a storage unit was included with our truck rental. When we arrived no unit was reserved. We got that straightened out and then told we had to buy a round lock. We did. Then in the storage unit was a new round lock. So we moved our stuff in and went to get a refund on the purchased lock. We were told that the lock was necessary and no refund would be given. If we had gone to the storage unit first we would have had a free lock. After going round and round we asked for the manager who refunded our lock purchase. The practice of separate bills for each unit when I had two units led to double very high late fees. I went online and put the payment on auto, then received a few days later a letter telling me that if I put the payment on auto The late fees would be refunded. They were not refunded and I got another late fee the next month for one unit which is when I found out that each unit was charged separately. RYAN IS A HOME RUN GUY. Unfortunately you have an IDIOT AT YOUR BRUNSWICK OFFICE who wanted to charge a drop-off fee twice the rental fee for a defective trailer rental where the hitch detached while on I295. Only because of my experience driving trucks was I able to prevent what could easily have become a catastrophic accident. And the fellow who rented and hooked up the trailer in S. Portland needs serious training in properly securing the chains. You need guys like RYAN on the job and the schmuck in Brunswick needs to find a job washing dishes. I used the uhall drive up storage units in downtown Portland Maine for 3 months. The units were not clean when I took possesion and by design are not well sealed from environmental polution, risk of contamination from adjacent units. You need more staff, more parking, more and easier access to interior storage with more bays and more carts, MORE DIRECT ACCESS TO TRAINED AND INFORMED PHONE/COUNTER STAFF. Hire cheap get cheap. Usually young. IMPORTANT: I talked to 2 employees on the call-center line and neither had accurate or satisfactory information both of which was vital and time-sensitive. Third individual had the right info and assurances. I fell on ice on street where I was forced to park because the U-Haul lot was full of trucks and vans on a slow Sunday morning. You charge for EVERYTHING connected to your business. The least you can do is to provide a commensurate service. Doing otherwise labels you as arrogant because you are the "only game in town".
