The trailer was full of debris on pickup. Also was charged an additional $40 for a late return...when I returned it the night prior to my deadline, as well as a cleaning fee...for which is absolutely ridiculous. There was nothing to clean.chris J.

My pick up day was Sunday at 10:00 am, only one clerk checkout person was availible, He was working as efficiently as possible, but the line waiting for service was extremely long, I was third in line and had to wait 22 minutes to get waited on. not a big problem but people who were buying boxes etc were slightly upset. over all it's a good place to do bussiness.Maybe having more people availible when there is a high demand for reserved vechical would help. thank you for listining.Rodney K.

The representative was extremely rude to me and insinuated that I was trying to scam Uhaul. He asked for a secondary phone number for "another person" which I was reluctant to provide since I was renting for a business. Eventually I gave him my wife's phone number which he did not accept because when he "test called" her she did not pick up the phone. At that point he said he would not rent to me. I then called an employee at the business that was renting and asked for their permission to give out their phone number. The representative reluctantly accepted the phone number and eventually rented. Out business rents from this uhaul location on a very regular basis and we have never been told we need to provide a secondary contact. I feel as though I was profiled for some reason and the representative was intentionally giving me a hard time because he thought I was in in some sort of scam (which is incredibly odd since I'm renting with a business credit card with my name on it). The whole situation was very frustrating and disappointing and I'm hopeful the representative will not be rude and difficult to other customers.Christopher C.

The interior lights in the back were very hard to figure out how to leave on and they were malfunctioning so moving in the dark was very hard! And the vehicle kept switching into "TOWING" mode which uses twice as much gas!!! Add to that they charged me for two days when it was supposed to be one and when I tried repeatedly to contact them - in person, via phone, via email - they never took any time to contact me back and resolve this! I would not recommend this UHAUL center to anyone - very poor customer service!!!!!!Andrew L.

No receipt was emailed, no phone call was returned, no refund was actually out through. Because an employee didn't do what he claimed he was going to do for me I got charged an additional $30+ and accused of keeping my van for two full days when I had it for less than 24 hours. After calling twice and be routed to the call center I then went in person and was told I'd be emailed a confirmation of the refund. I have seen neither an email confirmation or the actual refund into my bank account. Highly disappointed and will never be using Uhaul services again.Hailey H.

This location was excellent! We had a horrendous experience with the South Portland, ME location which is not listed here, so I will relay the experience we had there as follows: "Hopefully, you can improve your U-Haul representative's manners and customer service. When I went there to try and resolve an issue in our rental agreement, I was scolded, hollered at, told that it was "U-Haul's fault" not his, and sworn at with filthy language. Fire this guy -- he doesn't belong in customer service!" We were then sent to Marginal Way above and it was a breath of fresh air - fantastic!Stephen F.

The 26 ft truck should not have been on the road. It drove like a buckboard, shuttering and jerking wildly on newly paved roads. Out of balance tires and or suspension issues made this a terrible rental experience.eric M.

The "Oil Change Needed" light was on for the entire rental period. The Tire pressure warning light came on after about 20 miles and stayed on. We stopped and inspected the tires and they seemed OK so it was probably a bad sensor or one tire that was down a few psi. But the tire warning light caused us anxiety as we were driving into Boston over heavily travelled bridges and tunnels and parkways with no shoulders and a flat tire could have been very dangerous. The tires held up OK, but hopefully Haul will be able to change the oil and fix the tire problem before the vehicle is rented again. But in summary, the price for the cargo van was a good value and saved us at least $1500 over paying movers. The Uhaul employee at Marginal Way was excellent, despite having a long line of customers to handle.John K.

You can hire some more people. This location, even before covid,has always been completely overcooked. For example, I haven't been there before, I showed up at 8:15 just so I could make a 9:00 reservation. Two completely overwhelmed employees managing a huge line. Many if not most of the employees that work there are excellent. They just need way way more of them. For the love of God, hire about 20 more people for this location. Again, this is way before covid ever came around.David E.
Hello so I tried to return the van but nobody was at the desk, then I asked the guy was working on the trucks if there was anything else that was needed, he said just leave the keys in the truck, so then I double checked the link and it wanted me to take an active photo I do have a photo but not an active one so then I couldn't complete the rental. Then I tried to call and was on hold for 30 to 45 minutes make sure I didn't get an extra $20 charge and then I was hung up on after waiting on hold for 40 minutes, Now I've received an email with a bill that's an extra hundred dollars. I try the chat as well nobody is working, nobody was at the desk when I tried to return the truck, nobody's available on the phones, nobody is available on the char and you're overcharged me $100kate M.

Do not bump reservations without notice. I was 4 minutes outside of the 1hr grace period and lost my truck without so much as a phone call to warn me. Do not deploy a vehicle on an empty tank. A quarter tank should be a minimum requirement especially for a downtown location where gas pump access is an issue for a 26' truck.Colin H.

The equipment was filthy and not prepared for rental. I made an online reservation and check-in, then stood in line for over 40 minutes waiting to pick up the vehicle. The clerk, Chris, was more interested in exchanging personal stories with some customers than moving the line along. Eventually, the manager came and started helping the line move. The manager was very polite and timely with me, but it seemed he was the only competent employee working. I will not be returning to this location.Griffin B.
We went into the store two times and both times the man at the counter was difficult and rude. The first time we were picking up pre ordered items. I gave him our order number from the email and he gave all the reasons why I was not in the right place. He wasn't remotely interested in helping me as a customer. I felt like I was inconveniencing him. I almost left thinking he was right. I was so confused so I went back in and had to insist I didn't feel I was in the wrong place. I wasn't. When he looked again, my order had been classified as filled or completed. He made some snide comment about how I missed the pickup date and then gathered the items. I thought maybe he was just having a bad day so I just let it go. Nope. This is how he always must be because next counter experience was exactly the same. I was there to pick up the truck and remaining items. I told him I ordered 120 blankets. He says to me, â€œ120? I have nothing close to that.â€ I again told him I was confused because I prepaid so what do I do? I need the blankets and I paid for them 2 months ago. He gets all put out like I have ruined his day. I had to wait while he procured them. Customers do not matter at your store. My experience was horrible and I will never use Uhaul again.Jane W.

Move out not processed for days resulting in another month's charges even though pictures of a clean empty unit were confirmed received on the 25th. I purchased the road side assistance insurance for â€œin caseâ€ scenarios, well the in case scenario happened. On the New Jersey turnpike, rush hour traffic of Kearny, NJ, my vehicle insurance for road side assistance arrived within moments before I could even have communication completed for Uhaul road side assistance. They offered to go ahead and tow the 4x8 trailer for me alongside the vehicle but I'd have to pay cash and requisition a refund for my coverage through Uhaul so that myself, 2 children, and 4 pets traveling from Maine to Mississippi wouldn't have to be stranded waiting for a Uhaul tow and then an Uber service. I FELT that Uhaul would GRANT the offer, first to save any incident that could occur in the turnpike waiting for their tow, swcondly because fifty dollars was way less than the coverage they'd be paying for a service to come. However, left up to the manager to make the decision whether to honor my out of pocket savings to them and security of the trailer, and my family from waiting in that scenario was NOT granted nor grateful of the way less expenditure should the former had happened and so Uhaul DECLINED paying my family back during our long road trip of much needed funds of $50 back. That is plain to see compassion, care, understanding, and gratefulness is NOT Uhaul a policy. So for Uhaul company I do not even give it a 1star review.DONNA I.

I mentioned this to your associate who checked me in: The truck "stuttered" on acceleration from a dead stop. This did not seem too concerning at first. But the van stalled once when backing out of my driveway and again when I was stopped at a traffic light. It is important to note that I only drove a total of 28 miles. I am not a mechanic, but in the "old days" I would have suspected a carburetor problem. I would check this out ASAP before someone gets stuck. Otherwise, an excellent experience. I have used U-Haul for many years. This move was complicated from Canada to Maine. Load/unload crews had to be coordinated, plus crossing the border and back. I made the reservation 8 days in advance and called the day before to confirm everything. [truck, dollies, blankets] We were moving heavy furniture and antiques. The blankets were crucial, and I specifically was told they were 100 % guaranteed. When we arrived at the appointed pick up time, there were NO BLANKETS!!. We were told to try Brunswick or Augusta! Really!!! Everything was on a tight schedule, and there was no time to drive around Maine looking for moving blankets. We were told we could get them in Canada at a U-Haul facility there. However, the Quebec stores were closed until 8-31-22 for summer vacation. The hardware stores were sold out. No Blankets!! Not supplying blankets when they were â€œ100 % guaranteedâ€ was absolutely inexcusable. Worse, when we returned and told the guy who checked us in, he said that they could have taken blankets from other trucks to give to us for the move. I have lost all confidence in U-Haul. Let people pick up at requested location. Actually find the truck and trailer for then and not have them search for themselves. Help them out car on the trailer it is called SERVICE and not make them pay another $20 on top of a $2100 invoice. Not give out trucks with identified problems with the tire causing it to go flat an hour done the road. ACTUALLY have a service center that you advertise as 24/7 so someone dues not spend 6 hours on the side of the road for a simple flat repair. Then send someone qualified who does not put a used tire and bends the rim causing another flat in less than an hour where they are left on the side of the road again for another 5 hours due to lack of efficiency and caring about your customers.Robert S.

Staff wasn't very helpful in taking the auto transport off and even offered to help me take the car down only if I have him $20. Our reservation for the storage unit done online wasn't showing up in the system and so we had to book again online while there. Arriving at the facility by car on Marginal Way and Just passing Cove St. I completely missed the entrance. Google maps had me come around the building go back up Co Street, I drove in the drive-up storage area and proceeded to find my way to customer parking. Upon reaching the front desk, Tristan explained that that was not in his normal position and tried to assist me the best he could. I told him I rented a locker online and needed to be shown where the locker was. He was not trained on the web self Storage. In hindsight he should have also asked me for my ID to verify who I was. I recall that I did get the code on the U-Haul app and sign up process and brought up the information on my phone. Tristan asked to see the code. He than showed me around the building to the indoor storage units. He showed me two keypads one to disarm my unit the other to enter the facility. He proceeded to answer all my questions with knowledge and was very helpful. Tristan explained that this location was temporary housing the vehicle repair as a new repair facility construction is ongoing. Otherwise, everything about the UHaul experience I disliked - from the antiquated and frustrating way I would get charged a late fee despite you having my credit card on file, to the multiple times I showed up and my unit was locked by you despite my bill being paid in full every month. (Again, you had my credit card that has never expired or stopped working.) Your rates went up constantly, and half the time the trucks were parked in front of my garage in a way that made it impossible to access in off hours. Your front desk staff was so bad I was there crying last night at 7p trying to move my items into storage. She was confused, explained things incorrectly, and left out pertinent information like the loading bay closes at 5....not 10. I had to go back to the office a total of 5 times for various reasons because she was so so bad. She said the key card was activated, it was not, she lost my account and couldn't find me again somehow, she said there would be a lock in the unit and had me put away the one I was purchasing....there was no lock. Understaffed, and I called 3 times and waited on hold 20 minutes and when I got through was told I didn't have a unit waiting even though I had confirmation and a reservation number from my online order. When I arrived I was given a unit that had a lock on it. The manager walked out to the unit with me and removed the uhaul lock. She was very helpful. The store manager, Ryan, could not have been nicer. We had a bad UHaul truck rental experience in Massachusetts, and the storage experience in Maine was the antithesis of that. We were told a storage unit was included with our truck rental. When we arrived no unit was reserved. We got that straightened out and then told we had to buy a round lock. We did. Then in the storage unit was a new round lock. So we moved our stuff in and went to get a refund on the purchased lock. We were told that the lock was necessary and no refund would be given. If we had gone to the storage unit first we would have had a free lock. After going round and round we asked for the manager who refunded our lock purchase. Glenn and Ryan really rocked. There were so many customers and returns they were juggling on Mother's day, but they got to everyone and solved all the problems. They helped us get to Saco for a better fit, because this location doesnt have freight elevators for the second floor which was just something we couldn't do. The practice of separate bills for each unit when I had two units led to double very high late fees. I went online and put the payment on auto, then received a few days later a letter telling me that if I put the payment on auto The late fees would be refunded. They were not refunded and I got another late fee the next month for one unit which is when I found out that each unit was charged separately. We didn't access our storage space much at all, but when we needed to get in we were able to do so and the staff was helpful when we couldn't get our key card to work. RYAN IS A HOME RUN GUY. Unfortunately you have an IDIOT AT YOUR BRUNSWICK OFFICE who wanted to charge a drop-off fee twice the rental fee for a defective trailer rental where the hitch detached while on I295. Only because of my experience driving trucks was I able to prevent what could easily have become a catastrophic accident. And the fellow who rented and hooked up the trailer in S. Portland needs serious training in properly securing the chains. You need guys like RYAN on the job and the schmuck in Brunswick needs to find a job washing dishes. I used the uhall drive up storage units in downtown Portland Maine for 3 months. The units were not clean when I took possesion and by design are not well sealed from environmental polution, risk of contamination from adjacent units. STAY AWAY!!! They play games after games after games. There is no GM so it's the wild west! They DO NOT honor their own benefits that you pay for that is CLEARLY LISTED ON THEIR SIGNS! They wanna be nosey and watch you with you OWN STUFF. Multiple complaints fall on deaf ears. And if you complain about their crappy service they wnd up taking more of your benefits away but keep charging you the same rate. Multiple complaints to corporate with ZERO resolution. You need more staff, more parking, more and easier access to interior storage with more bays and more carts, MORE DIRECT ACCESS TO TRAINED AND INFORMED PHONE/COUNTER STAFF. Hire cheap get cheap. Usually young. IMPORTANT: I talked to 2 employees on the call-center line and neither had accurate or satisfactory information both of which was vital and time-sensitive. Third individual had the right info and assurances. I fell on ice on street where I was forced to park because the U-Haul lot was full of trucks and vans on a slow Sunday morning. You charge for EVERYTHING connected to your business. The least you can do is to provide a commensurate service. Doing otherwise labels you as arrogant because you are the "only game in town".
