I needed storage during a move so I spoke with a uHaul rep on the phone looking for storage close to my new home. I needed vehicle storage as well as a small room, but was told that at the location I chose there was no vehicle storage. The uHaul rep also said because I had a uHaul truck rental I was eligible for first month free rent at this facility. Once I arrived to move my storage in, I noticed that this location did in fact have vehicle storage as there were vehicles stored on the rear of the property, I also noticed when I moved my items into the facility that my Visa was charged the first months rent and is scheduled to pay the second month. I have spent over an hour online and calling uHaul to find out why I was charged for the 'free' first month only to have the phone line constantly send me to the automated truck rental choices over and over with no representatives to speak to. At this point I'm somewhat frustrated as this free first month was appealing to me after the high cost of moving and fuel, but I guess it's just a bait and switch? I'm not interested in wasting any more time trying get in touch with uHaul and the facility phone just rings with no answer, so I guess if you rent from here be loud and clear about the free month you were offered.Gabriel Jacob J. | Online Move In

What a pain in the butt this was. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but wow. First, the U-Haul website isn't linked to their system, so even tho the site says they have certain units available at this location, they don't. Next, they make you use a certain kind of lock, no others, but they only ever have like five in stock at a time, so they were sold out. I had to drive all the way to Home Depot to buy one. Then, I paid for two months in advance and moved out two days before my last day. I wasn't told I needed to check out with the office. Ensure that your policies align with the policies/information of the folks at the uhaul phone line. I ran into a number of problems with inconsistencies between booking my reservation over the phone, only to find out upon dealing with your location directly, that i was given incorrect information over the phone and that the policies at Hazlewood were different. For example, i was told i could book a storage unit, and so maybe plans around that including having paid movers and friends there to help me. I had a call from this location less than 24 hours before i was due to move into the storage unit saying they would not hold the unit. I called 1-800 uhaul as i could not find direct contact information for this location, spoke to someone in customer service who assured me i was given incorrect information, that they confirmed with the provincial head of uhaul that a storage unit could in fact be held. The next day when i went to your location, the person serving me informed me that i was lucky the unit was still available. I found this to be deeply frustrating and inconsistent, and although it did work out for me in the end, it is hadn't it would have been very challenging to deal with. Everything was good except for the fact that my reservation was for 10:30 and when I arrived I rang the buzzer and knocked on the office door for about 15 min until the employee finally showed up. I was kinda passed cause I was in a hurry BUT once he arrived, the process was smooth, the vehicle was immaculate and even had a reverse camera, power window and a nice sound system! Honestly, I was disappointed this time around. I did online move in as I would be arriving after hours. My unit was not ready. There was a lock on outside, not inside. Had to call the general help line who had to call Manager who had to come cut lock etc.. after a long day as is, was not a fan of my move in this time around. First place took my reservation but was closed and despite the app saying it had online check in, we arrived and couldn't get our vehicle. Second had a van, which only just worked. But they were open.RONALD F.
Poor experience. Staff aren't doing anything anymore and are blaming it on COVID precautions (which isn't the case because staff and other customers still weren't physical distancing). Customers are now being forced to do the staffs' job (I.e. all paperwork to rent a van, copy of photos, parking, all paperwork to drop off van). Doing the staffs' job is concerning as now I'm liable and I am not covered by WSBC if an accident happens. Another staff forced me to move a van for a garbage truck (they stood there doing nothing). I was forced to use my cellphone and data plan as well to do the above tasks. All of the above tasks is allowing Uhaul to do less work in order to make more profit. Again, this had nothing to do with COVID precautions as staff and other customers were still not physical distancing. If Uhaul continues to do less work I can only imagine what else they'll force customers to do - oil changes, body work, repairs, changing brake pads etc.Jeffrey M.

We have been very unimpressed with Uhaul's storage services. The Hazelwood facility was ok and the staff there are all excellent, however, right from the beginning, Uhaul didn't honour our original reservation for a much larger unit and another location of theirs in Abbotsford. The Hazelwood location did their best to accommodate us, but in the end, we had to have 4 small units instead of only 1 or 2 and this cost us money due to increased monthly fees, not to mention, inconvenience. The system to collect payment is also terrible and even though we filled out "auto-pay" online for our account, it didn't take payment so we were charged late fees and even our parents received late payment notices. Very unprofessional and disorganized overall. Our only complaint specifically about the Hazelwood location, is that of the four units we had to use, not one of them had a working light bulb. Seems silly considering the cost to store there... I would use Uhaul again for renting their moving equipment, but not for storage, it was a very bad, stressful experience.Paul C. | Expérience générale

I was late on a payment after having payed early for all the months prior. I made arrangements with a person at the head office as well as one of the people from the location i was utilizing as to when I would make the payment in full. I was then harassed multiple times a day with phone calls and an email threatening to put a lien on the unit. I also received a letter in the mail saying i needed to make the payment. I was not "hiding" or refusing to make the payment and was told the arrangements were satisfactory. I was then locked out of my storage unit until I payed the amount in full. I spoke with a lady that works at the location this occurred at and even she said that this was not acceptable behaviour from u-haul. U-Haul has made moving an absolute nightmare. We ordered 4 boxes for one month. We basically got 2 boxes at a time for one week. What they don't tell you is that the boxes are attached to trailers that you don't rent, so even if you get the boxes you ordered, you are at the scheduling whim of the trailers. We have gotten phone calls nearly every day wanting the trailers. But our stuff is on there! So, they keep taking our stuff. After talking to Head Office is was explained to us that they were supposed to use a forklift to place the boxes on the driveway and not keep them on a trailer. Initially delivered two boxes. Had to fill those as they needed the trailer. Took those away and brought the other two. Filled those and took them to the new house. They phoned again needing the trailer on the day before we had scheduled people to empty them. Insisted on taking our 2 boxes the day before the move. Did not give us another option. Refused to work with us. The GM talked over us and just repeats what he wants until he gets it. Pawned me off on the transit manager who was supposed to call within 15 mins. Never got the call and had to call them. As soon as the woman on the phone saw which account this related to her demeaner drastically changed. One word answers and she hung up on us. Extremely rude and unprofessional. When picking up the trailers the day before our move the GM was incredibly rude to both my partner and I. He banged on our door VERY loudly and just walked away. Wouldn't talk to my partner. Just pointed at our car that I guess he wanted moved yet again. They also broke the neighbours fence when placing the original trailer at new place. When we mentioned this the GM could not have cared less. Told us the neighbour would have to file a complaint. No apology. Nothing. Called to complain about the behavior of the GM and the second person we talked to was very rude as well and insisted that they talk to me as they refused to talk to my partner. She ended up hanging up on us. Very professional. We had to constantly shift our plans around to suit their trailer schedule. We were never given an option. They would just show up and take our stuff without a care in the world as to how it would affect our move. When we insisted that they return our stuff on moving day they just gave us a string of excuses and hung up on us AGAIN. We never even came close to getting what we paid for. There has been no offer to compensate us for their schedule extending our move. Quite the opposite, they hounded us for $13 we apparently owed them. I'm a 46 year old professional and I have never in my 46 years on this planet been treated with such a lack of respect. The GM's arrogant and flippant attitude was stunning to both myself and my partner. This was single handedly the most negative moving experience I have ever encountered. I would avoid this location at all costs and certainly do not use their box service. We will be seeking compensation for all of the above but I highly doubt anything will come of it but more hang ups.Stephen A.

There has to be some sort of consistency regarding the cleaning required at the time of returning the vehicle. I was told the vehicle had â€œa lotâ€ of dirt in the back and needed to be swept. I had already swept the back of the van out twice, but she insisted. When I asked where there was a broom for me to sweep again, she directed me to a trolley which had no broom. There was a big truck delivering supplies, she told me to park â€˜up there' and when I did the driver told me I was in the way, and so I had to move again. It was just a big stress to return the vehicle, there were instructions to drop the keys in a drop box, which I could not find, and there was nobody in the office. This was all pretty disappointing, I have had a storage locker on the property for 4 years now, and I will be moving my business as soon as I can. This is the 2nd bad interaction I have had in this property in the last 6 months.MAUREEN T.
Access code at the gate worked but when I went to my locker hallway and opened the main door the alarm went off with no way to stop it. The unit didn't have a lock inside as promised by my online purchase and the unit itself has what feels like a rotted wooden door and no lighting inside the building to see in the unit. There was confusion with our reservation at first, the agent working at the front desk said he did not have a unit reserved for us, even though we had the confirmation, and tried to sell us a bigger unit. There was an overall lack of customer service. We ended up moving to a different company to store our belongings. 160 after you guys cancelled my first Uhaul storage unit without giving me any reason at all then, when I called and explain I was told my new unit it was in hazelwood abbotsford and the lady booked it for me in the us in Bellingham. Then I went to hazelwood and found this out, so I asked what he has available the guy tells me to go see the unit myself did not attempt to come but drew a map, and it was so unsecured looking and I obviously didn't understand him and he made no attempt to try to help me understand. I have one month free since renting a 20 footer, but will be charged 160 for an ugly little narrow and long unit, same space but different shape as a wide unit. Uhaul is obviously a greedy company. I should have been charged less and I cant wait to move my stuff into a cheaper place. With better service. I let the guy know my frustration and so did my friend who was helping me, a single mother of an 8month old and I am pregnant. The staff are excellent, always smiling and ready to lend a hand. The facility is secure and safe but the outdoor storage units should use laser lights in case they are concerned about fire hazards why they removed the original lighting fixtures from last year because it was hard to find things in the storage unit despite having a flashlight on hand. The policies are deplorable however. There should be an automatic refund for early move outs as a courtesy. *Lastly, your survey should separate the question about your facility being well lit and secure. Had trouble parking initially because of the many trailers beside the big shop and which blocked RV71. Got it solved after a staff member moved 2 or 3 trailers. I called ahead to ask that our vehicle be accessible on Feb. 22nd and it was. There were no trailers blocking access like before. U-Haul did a good job insuring that the lockers were secure and that no one could break into them. I wish the light would work in the room though. It was good that there was a washroom there but the soap dispenser was empty and had fallen off the wall. The garbage can needed emptying often. I never felt good with the lockers being made of wood. Anyone could move all their stuff out then later, walk in from the street and start a real barn burner without anyone knowing who did it. My previous storage areas were made of concrete brick or metal. This was the sole reason for my response of 'no' to question 6 above; otherwise it would be yes. Site for parking our jeep was just big enough to park, however there were 3 , 2-wheel rental trailers very close that had to be moved so we would have roon to back into our rental spot - #71. My husband and I moved a couple of trailers at the direction of a staff on a fork lift, who then moved the largest one which was too heavy for 2 peole to move,. IH was very helpful, but it took considerably longer for us to park, remove the battery and store our jeep..Therefire, we gave an average rating.Neil C. | Premières impressions
These units smell kind of musty and are older. I am concerned about the dampness. But its what we had scheduled. I would search for a more modern similar storage and compare costs before choosing this one again. Everything else was fine.Roy V. | Online Move In

I would not recommend your Uhaul location, your manager Vipin your regional manager Horace our your company to a person I did not like. Your company needs a dramatic overhaul. Since this day my other daughter told me she mover her stuff from there because of the same young women and my husband tells me she way very rude to him as well! Staff could have been a little more aware of the BC covid guidelines in common areas (office space). There was an incident when I had very limited time and there was an additional lock placed onto my unit. When I brought it to staffs awareness, they removed it quickly. I was given a great deal on the unit. However, it was a bit small for our needs.. even tho it was recommended based on the info we gave him. It seemed fairly dim and the air was poorly circulated. I would appreciate having a booking system and not based on first come first served as it was difficult to make plans in advance before our move in. Our storage unit was infested with rat feces and urine. Half of the things in our unit were ruined. The majority of the things were given to us from my dad and my Aunts estates after they passed away, so they were very sentimental to us. We were even told that there was a rat problem, from the employee. So they knew about it and never contacted any customers about the issue. We also know a few other people who store things there that had thousands of dollars stolen from there. We did not have insurance so we got no compensation for anything. Between us and our son we had 4 storage spaces there. We have only one unit left to clean out and we will never return there. We will be looking for storage elsewhere. We were given recommendations from people on Facebook who have also had issues with your storage facilities.tina w. | Expérience générale
