It took 30 minutes to pick up my truck an ubox rental that I schedules over a month ago. It should have been ready when I arrived. I had to be assigned a box like I just walked in and asked for it.Jesse L.
- was told over the phone to be there by 9am or my equipment would be given away - arrived before then to assure that wouldn't happen and my truck was not ready. Still had to be cleaned and did not receive until 9:30 - truck was given to me with only 1/4th tank which is honestly less than ideal - the truck had start up issues - took multiple tries to turn on every time it went to start - the only good thing was the movers I used through the U-Haul website everything else was subpar to say the leastTracey M.
My truck got canceled the day before my reservation. Then when I scheduled a new truck the person over the phone scheduled me for the wrong time I asked for 10am she repeated that then my truck was scheduled for 10pm. Called yet again and finally had to settle for a smaller truck at a later time on Saturday. When I go to get my truck Saturday it's not available at the pick up time I was scheduled. The lady I worked with at the was able to find me a truck but I had to return it the same day which was not in the original plan and screwed me over because I was not planning to have to make an additional 30 minute drive to return the truck to the Ann Arbor location instead of the Brighton location which is what I had originally planned for my reservation. Every step of this process was screwed up and the fact that I can lose my reservation one day in advance after having the reservation for a month is completely ridiculous. All in all I can't trust uhaul I've I ever have to move again and will no longer be using your service because of this.Daniel M.

I was supposed to be able to check in with the app when I arrived at the location. When I attempted to do this when I arrived, there was a technical glitch on the Uhaul app and so I had to go inside to register. Of course, this is nothing that the staff at the location can control, but it would have been great if the app would have worked and it would have saved everyone some time. Other than that glitch, it was a great experience and the staff was top-notch.Chris W.
The odometer read and fuel gauage on my paperwork didn't agree with what the intrument panel in the truck read. I was overcharged about $20 for mileage and fuel. I took pictures before driving off the lot so I expect it will be fixed, however this shouldn't ever happen. I wonder if this happens often?Blake A.

I was there to return a trolley. I had to wait 40 minutes due to only one counter staff. Maybe have a separate staff to check in equipment without credit due?? It only required entering my name and clicking returned. All was handled very efficiently at the site, but there was a rather late notification of a change to this site.John K.
I rented the Uhaul smoothly, and the lady who cashed me out and brought the car up was very sweet. After she pulled up i noticed the gas tank was super low to what it usually is. No big deal. I start driving the truck and it CLEARLY needed maintenance. The brakes were so bad i hoped every time I stopped, i didn't crash. Any slight bump and the wheel would go out of control- i hit a curb due to the wheel going out of control. Once safely to my location, I tried contacting the store because I didn't feel comfortable driving it back, no one answered. So I went to the online chat, where the very rude person was not sympathetic to my situation at ALL, didn't even apologize which is really all I ask for. The chat person told me to contact roadside assistance since I didn't want to drive the Uhaul back. Fine, that works, so I contact roadside assistance. It took someone 35 minutes to pick up, and they were incredibly rude from the bat. No sympathy to the fact that I was driving a truck that I should have NOT been driving because it was far from safe. She told me someone wouldn't be able to help for three hours, and due to parking, that was not going to work. So she said she would transfer me to Customer Service. Turns out, that's just the main store numbers phone, and she made me start all over again with the process. I ended up getting so frustrated due to not getting an answer at ALL on what to do, so I decided to drive the Uhaul back with a friend close behind me, just in case anything happened. We pull up to the Uhaul and there's a line, which i understand, so I was really calm. I calmly told the lady that I gave the keys to, that this car was NOT safe to drive, and told her my issues. All she said was â€œokayâ€ and walked away. I go outside to put the truck in the lane it needs to be in for returns, and the truck barely turns on, and the steering wheel locks up. So, if i would have been driving that truck for at least a half a mile more than i did, I would have gotten into an accident. Worst customer experience of my life except for the initial girl that checked me in for my rental. There should have been a â€œI'm so sorry! That must have been so frustrating. We will make sure to get this looked at before another driver reserves this truckâ€ or SOMETHING along those lines. I get it, the job is stressful, hell, I work in customer service. But i would never be so cold hearted to someone who experienced something so scary. I honestly would like a refund of some amount because it also did not come with the usual gas amount- only had 1/4 of a tank. I also got charged for more than my statement says? If someone can reach out to me at my email firstname.lastname@example.org or my phone 7347094050, that would be great, as I would like to keep using Uhaul, but will find another place to rent from for my next move if nothing is really rectified. I reserved a van weeks before I needed it. I chose this location, even though it was far from my home, because it said the van was available. When I arrived at 8am to pick up my van, for a BUSINESS TRIP to Chicago, I was told there were no vans available. I asked for another type of moving truck. They said there were none of those available either. They basically told me there was nothing they could do because other renters had not returned their vehicles in time (even though their lot was full of vans and trucks). I left, even though this would have cost me my job. I returned shortly with my ex boyfriend (a large man) and my 3 year old son (a loud annoying toddler), and they were somehow about to magically find me a van, which I was ecstatic about. But I got on the road an hour late and the experience was incredibly stressful and unprofessional. I have never experienced this level of poor service from Uhaul before, it was incredibly disappointing. I will be thinking twice before using Uhaul again (even though I have used your company for YEARS).Katherine H.

No trucks were available though I had a reservation for 11am. Was told there would be a truck at 1, got to the store at 1 and the truck wasn't available. Had to wait until 1:50 at the store until a smaller truck was available ( the one I didn't order). When I turned the cargo van in I explained to the attendant that the inside of the windshield needed to be cleaned and he said he would take care of it. Other than that everything else was fine. I really didn't even notice an issue with the windshield until I changed directions and the sun was coming straight ahead; running the wipers with solvent didn't have any affect because the issue was on the inside. They were really busy when I went and had to wait to get a truck. My reservation was for a large trailer with a ramp and they didn't have one. They said they were not sure why I was given a reservation for a trailer they won't have back till Tuesday. Btw today was Saturday. They got me a smaller trailer but it would have been nice to have the right trailer that I had reserved 4 days before. Get trailers that are wide enough for a motorcycle trike to be hauled in. Customer shouldn't be charged for equipment that they can't use. Tell the customer if the trailers don't include holding straps.Michelle D.

I rented a dolly and they were not available when I picked up the truck. I reserved a truck from 3:30 to 7:30. I didn't leave the uhaul lot until 4:15 due to errors made by the uhaul team; the person helping me at the counter indicated that my truck had not been checked in from the previous rental client so they had to coordinate with other workers to make sure this was done in order for me to take it. The other worker she coordinated with was kind but extremely slow. It seemed to me that they didn't care for timeliness and they were not sensitive to customer needs.Morgan N.

You charged me a cleaning fee for not folding the furniture pad/blankets. No one told me that they had to be folded when returned. This is nothing but a money grab and I won't be back. Erik, the owner, was amazing. He helped figure out my trainer light issues (I had been sent to the State Street location from another location because Erik, when called, said he'd help me). He helped fix (clean corrosion) my light hookup with a wonderful kindness and a smile on his face. Then he found a trailer on the State Street lot do that I didn't have to retrace my steps. I commend the location for hiring youth. My representative appeared to be the youngest of the group, and still learning. He was professional and polite. The rental cargo van was a newer vehicle, and nicely equipped (A/C, Cruise, Power Mirrors). The return process was fast and provided for an email receipt.Robert S.

Storage was great and what I paid for. I was disappointed about the price hike toward the end of my lease but like everything else I expected it. Only issue was trying to contact the office to end my storage lease. I submitted an online form and tried contacting the office for two weeks before I just went in person to ensure it was closed. The staff was very precessional and helpful. The storage unit was clean and very accessible. Trying to close my unit online was a challenge but emailed Reid, the General Manager, and he got it done. Our unit was not available and Veronica jumped on getting us room for our stuff at 4:20 on a Sunday! Aaron was helpful as well. Gary went the extra mile and took us personally back to the units. We were on a very tight schedule and we got unloaded (had to go with indoor units, plural) in a very short time and on our way. Customer service at its best. We paid for 24- hour access, but then were unable to access at 10:30 at night. After hours phone number went unanswered. Phone call to customer service didn't show any issues with our account and left it to us to resolve. I make this comment with the understanding that it is difficult for employers to find help right now. The location was understaffed which led to very long wait times to check-in and to get on the road. The staff available were extremely polite and as helpful as possible. U-Haul's mobile check-in does not work. This is not a complaint about the location. They do not control the app. This is on corporate. One of my worst experiences at U-haul. Was given a storage unit only to find it already had a lock on it... and then this happened a second time... and each time took way too long to figure out. The staff were overwhelmed and poorly managed by the manager on site. What should have been a 30 min MAX experience turned into 1,5hrs of my time. My original reservation wasn't available, and the office was unable to honor the original price of my storage unit - I was forced to pay nearly twice what my original rate was. I'm likely to call the customer service hotline to see if something can be done, e.g., a free month, a lower monthly rate, etc. I made the reservation more than two months before it started - you should change your system so that it doesn't allow new reservations if it's unlikely there will be space available on the start date.William J. | Premières impressions

When I arrived my unit had a zip-tie on it and no lock inside, which was the only thing I needed to actually get started. I had to go in the office and ask for one, which makes the online no-contact reservation idea pointless. I was able to figure it out, but the system of arming and disarming alarms at one panel, and opening the building doors at a different panel, was very confusing. I heard one alarm go off while I was moving in, and I'm sure that happens all the time. The unit numbering is also very confusing, and it took me a while to find the correct building (I'm in the 1600s). Going from the 1400s to the 2000s, and having the 1600s out front, makes no sense. Finally, the stairs to the upstairs units have a lip on them that makes it much harder to pull a dolly up them.Daniel S. | Online Move In

Charged credit card when first free month was free. No one answers the phone after 20 minute hold. Tried again, hold for 25 minutes then routed to corporate answering service. They claim some random reason why the Uhaul website was wrong for the free month. They got through to the office in minutes. I was promised a reversal of charges. The original charge to card was not canceled. It went through. Received email of credit, but it hasn't hit my credit card. This free month seems like such a sham. Dear Austin Brown, I've had half a dozen excellent experiences w State St. Uhaul renting vehicles/trailers over the years (at least one of them directly with you), so when I needed storage space, it was a no-brainer, but I was sadly disappointed in the service I got. I reserved a 10x15 space online, and went to get access to it the following week (Tue Aug 4), Michael Fender was rude and exasperated to start, and let me know that the website's listed hours of access were wrong, requiring me to pay $10/mo more; and though it's not listed anywhere on the website, I had to provide or buy a discus-style lock. So far, not great, but workable. Then, my access card didn't work, and when I went back to the front to get it re-programmed, exasperation and rudeness increased. Then, when I finally got to the unit, there was a lock on it. After visually confirming, we went back to the front desk, and Michael searched for another 10x15 unit, but there were only 10x10 (too small for my needs) and 10x20 (too expensive for my budget). He was willing to waive the 24-hour access fee, and give me the lock for free, but I was only going to keep 24-hour access for a month anyway, so that didn't nearly make me whole for the difference of the price of the 10x15 and the 10x20. His only solution at that point was to direct me to the next available 10x15 unit *in Westland* which didn't work for that day (i needed to be somewhere *with my vehicle emptied* in 20 minutes), nor did it work for me in the long-run, being 25 minutes each way too far from my home base. I was understandably frustrated and rather than listen to my frustration, and acknowledge that, he sharply told me that he would not adjust the price to fit my needs, nor could the manager. As someone who manages people myself, and has had to deal with corporate bureaucracy, *I* would want the opportunity to address a repeat-customer's frustration myself, rather than risk losing their referrals and business forever, having been dismissed rudely by a front line worker. There could have been at least one more person working in the office. There was a line of 7 people and one worker, who do to policies such as requiring a visual check when someone vacates their unit, meant this worker had to walk all over the property as he was helping customers.
