Mulder T | Overall ExperienceI would like to start off by saying that I do not submit complaint reviews, let alone write letters to a town/city to help reach a resolution for the people requiring a service. This situation has prompted me to do both in order to help advise current and future customers to make an informed decision, and also to invoke the town to look into whether this business is operating under the proper by-laws and community standards to support its people. The business I will be referring to is Boondocks RV Storage in the town of Crossfield. Let it be known that the business changed ownership in 2021 (to the best of my knowledge), and only then did these problems arise. Prior to the change, this business was wonderful. They were amazing to deal with, could always be reached, had reasonable prices and kept great care of the facility. Since the change in ownership, this unprofessional and incompetent business owner has let the facility go downhill with regards to maintenance. Which is far from the worst of the ownership practices. May 9th, 2024 I received a credit card charge of $47.25 (my monthly rate, though never agreed upon, just forced to pay when he took over. We previously had a discount based on my husband’s employment. But I understood this was well within the new owners right to change). May 11th, 2024 I received another charge for 236.25 (a 6 month charge). When I messaged the owner to inquire as to why I received the 2 different charges, I also indicated that I was planning on selling my motorhome soon so the monthly charges would probably be better. He said that I could absolutely change to monthly but that it would be $68.50. I questioned the increase, as I was confused about the $47.25 charge as I thought that was my monthly charge. He indicated the rates were $45 monthly if I paid for 6 months and $65 monthly. I was upset about the fact I had never been advised of any of these rates and I simply asked to see a contract (knowing full well I had never signed a new contract under this new ownership with these new rates). As soon as I asked to be provided with a contract, he not only blocked my number, HE BLOCKED ACCESS for me to enter the yards to access MY motorhome! Thankfully my husband was able to call as his number wasn’t blocked and we were able to sell our motorhome by calling him and getting him to open and close the door. He refused to give us access back via the scan card, and said that my interaction was aggressive (my asking for a copy of the contract) and he refused to deal with me. I have all texts saved and am more than willing to provide if necessary. We almost had to resort to calling the RCMP as this was our property that we needed access to and were being denied. This is the part where I am questioning whether he is abiding by the by-laws set in place for this type of business. I realize that there is no jurisdiction on a company behaving poorly service-wise, but surely there must be requirements that ensure a paying client has access to their property within business operating hours. To block a customer’s phone number and card access and leave them completely stranded is not only unacceptable, it seems criminal to me. I require nothing personally out of this request to investigate this business’s practice. I of course would like to be reimbursed for the payments I will not have my motorhome there for, but have ultimately said goodbye to those funds. What I do want is an investigation into whether this business owner is in fact abiding by the by-laws, and also to bring awareness to this kind of tarnish he is bringing to Crossfield, as I would imagine the town does not want to represent these types of businesses. There are several reviews online, and I have read most within the past 3 years. There are many encounters of being charged without consent, threats to retain property, blackmail, being locked in the compound, and more - which I can guarantee is unlawful and does not abide by the by-laws. This should not be tolerated and I feel like enough of the community has spoken. And these are only the ones who wrote reviews, which we all know there are many more unhappy clients and community members out there. Something needs to be done to protect those future citizens who don’t check google reviews.
Melisa a | Overall ExperienceNo communication provided regarding elimination of the security card access system.. Manager rushed, very curt, demanded text message, very quick to end phone calls. Still waiting for return of my owed deposit as per contract after returning my access card. The facility appears neglected, numerous big potholes, abundant large weeds.
John M | Overall ExperienceI was over charged two months after leaving this storage facility. Mark the manger did nothing to return my funds after many emails. Very mismanaged and very customer customer service. Over charging 150.00 is not good. Stay away from this storage, there are many more out there that are managed better.
Richard H | Overall ExperienceI rented a spot for my camper and was disappointed that the area was flooded when I had to pick it up. The company also did not return my $40 access card security deposit because it wasn't returned to their office in Airdrie, on the same day the trailer was removed. Low quality humans managing this organization, I do not recommend.
Robert S | Overall ExperienceAlthough the owner was no problem with us they were never on site and always have to go to Airdrie. The property does have good security cameras but poorly maintained. Lots of weeds, major mud in a rainfall with poor drainage. Roads never get grated. Property also charges more than most Rv storage places in the area. If paying yearly you get a cheaper rate but if paying monthly the rate goes up by almost $30 a month. Other storage facilities either charge the same rate monthly as they do yearly or charge an extra $5 a month at most. We sold our unit but if this would not have happened we would have moved on as this Rv place is very expensive compared to others in the area and poorly maintained.
Jacqueline B | Overall ExperienceTerrible customer service. Will block your number when you call them about getting the $30 deposit back.
Ryan N | Overall ExperienceThis Rv storage site is the worst site I have ever used. The problem is with the individual who is responsible for this site. He lacks “customer service”. He is abusive to customers, unwilling to negotiate and is rude. The gate does not work properly, ask anyone who stores anything at this site. Note you will be responsible if something goes wrong with the gate. The site is a mud bog when it rains. I would not recommend this Rv storage site to anyone.
Gregory, W | Overall ExperienceLost catalytic converter while parked in lot. Had mice in our unit one winter.
Doug N | Overall ExperienceMy contract ended in August, agreed to do month to month, paid for September and then did not return, October payment was charged to my credit card unauthorized I was told it would be refunded as of today October 12th no refund has been given. A dispute of charges has been filed with the credit card company.
John N | Overall ExperienceI never had to worry about my trailer while it was at Boondocks. Their site is secure and the staff is very friendly and helpful!
Roniann & | Overall ExperienceAfter being a long-term customer, the new manager (who i'd never talked to previously) phoned me from a random phone number and told me I was 1 day late paying my bill. He told me that I needed to send an email money transfer to a random Gmail address or he'll put a lock on my wheel and deny me access to the facility. When I asked where the regular attendant was he just told me that she's on holidays until November. When I asked why he didn't call from the Boondocks number he told me to google it. When I asked why he's calling and not sending an invoice (like they always do) he told me that people complain and get confused when they get invoices so he doesn't send them. I asked him for one and he wrote one up with a bunch of spelling errors and sent a picture of it via text message. I asked him to send it from the Boondocks email and he said he doesn't use that email anymore (even though I recieved an email from that address Les than 2 weeks prior). In all of this he said he doesn't have my email address so I needed to give it to him. I reminded him he has it as I get emails monthly and have been there for 4-5 years. I offered to come to the facility and pay he told me he can't meet me at the facility but I could meet him in Airdrie instead, which I declined as I do not know this person and none of the information he if giving lines up with the business practices that Boondocks has had during my time there. When I told him that I wanted to shop around and check another facility he started screaming, swearing and calling me names. He also phoned me 10+ times that day to tell me I needed to pay and there's a lock on my trailer. I asked him to be reasonable and give me the number of his manager so I can explain the situation and he told me that he won't give it to me because I want to get him fired and he needs this job. My goal was to get my trailer out safely, and not to get him fired. I finally convinced him to let me get my trailer out of the facility and he told me I had until 6pm to move it or he's going to sell it at auction. I told him my boss is allowing me to get off work at 2pm and I'll come get it, he then told me that I had until 2:30 instead. When I asked him why he changed the time he immediately phoned and was swearing and me and my wife. He never gave back the deposit for the key card. I will never return to this place or recommend that anyone goes here.
James H | Overall ExperienceMud - even the slightest rain caused me to have to wash both my Trailer and truck each time is visited the yard...I never saw any gravel spread in the 2 years I was there. Those gravel piles never were spread - you need to spend $$ on this place (other then replacing the perfectly fine gate technology) or people are going to start looking elsewhere - we left for adesa storage in Airdrie for a flat rate of 50 per month (24 hours security)
