Cynthia Hardie provided knowledgeable information that made me feel safe and secure with purchasing a storage unit. This was my first time at this location and the customer service was excellent. Although it did get busy, Ms. Hardie acknowledged each customer and provided us all with the tools to expedite our visit.

1st truck reserved had low tire pressure & check air bag warnings before I even left lot?! How does that happen. 2nd truck was nice. Not banged up at all. Low mileage. Handled well. Didn't go very fast on highways.

Staff here were very helpful. The van I rented had a major discrepancy on the odometer, which delayed my rental start time. That said, the general manager and all the other staff made sure I got on my way and that there wouldn't be an issue upon my return.

Even though there was poison in the Units, it didn't deter the mice/rats from getting into my things. Damage was minimal. I mentioned it to the front staff but they didn't seem concerned.

I couldn't get correct help trying to close my account. Supervisor was not in office in my time for service. I had to call and talk to multiple people in the office to get help then I still didn't get correct help. I also was sent incorrect paperwork with wrong balance on it. I payed the last month but it reflected that I didn't. Again I spoke to the service people and got hung up on as well. I would get phone calls from them asking me do I want to close my account and I would tell them again it was suppose to be close I didn't want anything. . I spoke to Supervisor and he was the one who sent me paperwork saying I don't want anything in the unit for me to sign to my email but it had I didn't pay last months bill.so I wouldn't sign until was corrected. It never was I just kept getting calls asking me did I want my unit and asking for payment! I have smoke coming out of my head! This has really messed up my credit! Maybe you can help me with this corrected.

The staff were very professional and helpful. None of the equipment I had reserved were in the truck and most was unavailable. The truck itself definitely needed repairs, it was scary to drive. The braking and gear shifting were not functioning properly.

Everyone was super. I have been renting from this location for many years. They have always been good. In fact our organization has been using them since they opened that location and worked with current manager in previous locations in Dc.

Drop off process was difficult. Online wouldn't allow me to select this location even though it was only 3 miles from where I was. Basically had to beg to be allowed to drop off the trailer instead of driving 15 miles in the wrong direction. Maybe make it company policy that one way drop-offs cannot be refused. You know…customer service. Side note - the man that actually checked in the trailer was pretty great and actually backed the trailer into a tight spot when I wasn't able. He needs a raise.

We rented 2 hand trucks with our van for our move but they had no hand trucks when we arrived. We had to use appliance trucks which were heavy and cumbersome to lift and move. Also the truck smelled strongly of cigarettes and a very strong fragrance to cover up the cigarettes. Both gave me headaches. The people working out in the lot helping to find and return the van were both very kind and helpful.

I had selected the Self-Pickup option to get my truck so I didn't go directly to the office when I got to the location. It was a little confusing because I wasn't sure where to go despite the instructions I received via email. Thankfully, a gentleman in the truck yard helped and ultimately it was a smooth experience.

The staff at the 5th St NE Washington DC location are awesome. They are courteous, professional, friendly, knowledgeable and patient. I would specifically like to thank Katherine and Sharon. You all are the best. Omar and the entire team keep up the excellent work!! Additionally, the Latino woman who maintains the cleanliness of the facility is very polite and courteous. Finally, I would also like to acknowledge the staff at the UHaul truck rental; they are also very professional and courteous.

My truck required oil change so that warning was flashing while driving which makes somethings like cruise control and mileage reading harder. It was difficult to know whether the parking brake worked as you don't see any indication, I had to google it before driving, may be just print a small instruction placard saying which action to do to engage vs disengage (older models only). The check-in process actually took quite long taking photos and verifying information multiple times. It would be really beneficial if my license information for example can be saved for future visits till it expires and you can work with DoT to get an API to verify information. Instead of photos of the trucks may be a video or a visual scan might be way faster? In the end I will do it all again ofcourse but would be nice to save some time at both ends.

Everything had to be done through the app so there was no real reason to have any people there...aside from their un-helpfulness. There was one extremely helpful guy who located my vehicle AND got me the key for it. The vehicle was mostly clean on the inside but as for well maintained, no. A message to "Service Stabilitract" came onto the speedo as soon as i turned the vehicle on. The rep told me not to worry as that was concerned with towing safety. Later, as I was 20 miles into my journey from DC to Connecticut i hit a rough patch of highway, immediately triggering a "Service Traction Control" message on the speedo. And for the next 5 hours, every bumpy section yielded the same. . On a different note, the GMC van my vehicle was based on is an awful bit of engineering...let's just leave it at that.

Service was exceptional and the van was clean and damage free. The check in procedure through the electronic reservation system was slow, painful and inefficient for someone who is extremely tech savvy. A manual check in system would be much more efficient and economical because staff was needed to complete the check out of equipment.

I waited 40 min and was sent from building to building to get the keys; when I was in the right place, before they sent me again to the other building, the employee gave the keys that were assigned to me to another person, claiming someone else had taken it, when the other employee specifically said that those keys were for my order. Why would I get a confirmation number and then it's given to someone else? I thought the online process would be faster, but it ended up being the opposite.

My reservation was cancelled without notice. Uhaul was messaging me as recently as yesterday with an ad to rent a storage unit but didn't tell me they had cancelled my reservation until we showed up and there was no truck for us. This added an incredible amount of stress to my move. Please do better.

LOL I have been in DC area since 1978 and have done over 29 disaster relief ops with the Red Cross. all over the uSA and carrib. and samoa. this location is a long time source of rental trucks. we are a veterans organization and they are good people. Ariana at the front desk was absolutely amazing. Answered all of my questions and helped me switch my unit when I needed a large size! The rest of the staff were equally as helpful and lovely. Couldn't recommend this location enough.

Most staff were friendly and helpful, though some staff seemed irritated I was there. The u-box containers were also poorly positioned, so me, the two hired movers, and a staff member had to move the trailer holding them with just our bare hands, which were able to do, but shouldn't have needed to. Security on the lot was also reactive, following me to my pod to question me instead of asking me what I was doing when I first arrived. U-Haul reps also did not listen when gave the proper mileage expected and used

Our movers canceled on us, so we had to reserve a truck to rent at the last minute. I reserved it online and picked it up all within 30 minutes. Charles P was the associate who helped us and he was great! The whole process was fast and easy and I highly recommend this location!

The male manager knew how to handle business. The female retail associate was extremely rude. She was very vocal about having to work on NYE until 8 PM, that she wanted to go home, and was clearly irritated that she had to do her job until close.

Person giving me the vehicle was very nice. The people in the office were surly and unpleasant and unhelpful--very different from every other U Haul place (were were at 3 different places) we experienced. The vehicle had a low tire light on.

On another note, the location on Bladensburg RD NE where I rented the U-Haul truck the people are rude, disrespectful they don't want to help you at all including management. The just told me to walk outside and find my truck the key box outside told me to find it and to be a first time customer I will not recommend and I will not be going back to that location!! I also will be writing another review on that location.

The U-Haul app does not work. I tried booking a truck, returning the truck, closing out my storage unit and I wasn't able to do any of those things through the app. I called the U-Haul hotline to close out my storage unit and I was told that it was successfully closed. I then got a call from this specific U-Haul location 2 days later saying that I did not close it and the person on the phone lied to me saying that I did not remove my lock when I had said lock in my hand during the call. She clearly did not check to see if the unit was cleared out and unlocked before calling to tell me that I need to make a payment. Every time I went to this U-Haul, the service was very slow as well. U-Haul as a whole needs to make their app better but also the workers need to be more efficient, diligent, and work with integrity.

I had an employee call me the morning I was supposed to move into my unit and chew me out because someone else opened the unit and left it open. When I told her that I was a couple states away and couldn't do anything about that, she got mean and stayed mean until I asked her to just close the unit for me. It was a weird and uncomfortable call, but everything seemed fine other than that so I guess maybe that employee was just having a bad morning or something, I don't know. Everyone on site was super helpful though and I was able to move my things to my unit rather quickly.

The worst experience of my life this place smells gross, random alarms will just scream, the garage doors don't close while you're loading and unloading so all you things must be supervised at all times, also the staff is rude and doesn't give you the time of day. $100+ dollars a month for what? I think my grandmas basement in a flood is a better place to store my things. Additionally, my dispute was never properly resolved with this branch, instead of the $250 in refunds that were verbally promised to me, I received a $50 credit as if I'm ever using these services again. My move out experience was absolutely awful, the details of which are described here: On September 1, I arrived at the facility at roughly 7:45 am to move the belonging out of my unit. When I walked inside a noticed a note tapped on the door regarding an elevator outage. As I went inside to investigate, this turned out to be true. At this point in time my moving crew was only a half hour out and it was too late to tell them to stand down. As a result of the broken elevator, I was unable to move my belonging out of my unit because it contained many large items including tables, chairs, a sofa, a bedframe and my mattress which was essential because at the very least, I needed something to sleep on. I spoke with the attendant at the desk who was completely unaware that the elevator was completely not operational. After speaking to the manager on duty, he assured me the repair company had been notified but that he had not heard back from them thus he couldn't estimate when the elevator would be repaired. I left my name and number with both the manager and the attendant; they assured me they would contact me when the issue was resolved. Later in the day my mother stopped by for a status update as we hadn't heard anything and were trying to make plans for moving. The women she spoke to suggested I could expect a partial refund as well as reimbursement for an air mattress as I had nowhere to sleep given my mattress and bed frame were trapped on the third floor of your facility. We called back several times during the day of September 1st, attendants continued to provide the same message that they had not heard from the repair company and that they could not estimate when the elevator would be functional. On September 1st I bought an air mattress to sleep on but I was so distressed at the thought of sleeping in an empty apartment alone that I chose to stay in a hotel. The next morning. Sept. 2nd, I called again, and the lady I spoke to told me the elevator was up and running and appeared to have no knowledge of it ever being down. This made me upset because not only did the attendants not follow through on their promise to call me but at this point, I was unable to schedule movers for the day. When I finally rescheduled the movers, I was charged an additional $500 for making a short-term appointment and for delayed moving expenses. As stated, U-Haul has only given me a $50 credit for over $650 in inconvenience which is in no way shape or form compensation for what they gave done

I had a very frustrating experience with the staff at uhaul storage. I put my things in storage because I was leaving the area for a while and they kept calling me with new issues with the unit. I had to send other people to address these issues and they didn't give them the right information to fix it the first time so they kept having to come back. I wouldn't recommend this if you're leaving town, as you might need to keep coming back.

Compared to other storage locations this one is a bit over priced. I also hate going there because I get electrocuted every time I touch the elevator, the door to the unit and the lock. I have no idea why there is so much static in the building but yesterday when I used the elevator button I was shocked strongly by just touching the button. You should really fix that.

The overall experience was fantastic, but I was frustrated with the check out process. I moved out on the day one month after I checked in. An hour later I realized that I had been billed for the subsequent month. I called back, and Arnessa was super friendly and professional and informed me that the manager would help me refund the charge tomorrow. This morning I called Catherine who told me that because I had used the month for a month and 20 minutes, rather than checked out before the bill for the subsequent month was issued. She would not refund the charge. So I'm paying for a month for 20 minutes of storage?! I've been a frequent customer for the past year, but this will push me elsewhere.

The website has unclear terminology in "upper level unit." My first thought is that this simply means the unit is not on the first floor of the building, not an upper unit on a floor that requires mobile stairs to access. The website did not make this clear and I am lucky I did not have heavier furniture.

Moving out after over two months using the storage unit was great. The elevator was working, the access door had little issues, and there were plenty of carts available. When I told the front desk I was moving out, they said I was good to go and they would check the unit out later and I got a phone call several hours later that because I hadn't told anyone I was moving out, they would send my paperwork online. Of course I had told them in person I had moved out, but that was fine. Moving in was a different experience. The elevator was broken, and staff were super unhelpful as to why or for how long it may be broken or to offer alternative options. Therefore, moving in took around 6 times longer than moving out and much more physical effort. I basically was wishing between the time I moved in and the time I moved out that it wouldn't be broken when I had to move out. Luckily, it was working that day. There was also a leak from the ceiling in front of my storage unit the entire time, but none of it went into the unit itself which was good.

This was a horrific experience. I've got an 8 foot couch I was trying to store. I rented a 10 foot unit. Except that inside the 10 foot unit was a beam foundational to the structure of the building that was at least over 2 feet. I know this because my couch didn't fit. Systems were down. We couldn't get a new unit. We tried everything we could to fit the couch in. Eventually the system started working again, and we were able to get a new unit. But you guys misadvertized the size of the unit and cause pretty massive inconvenience for me and everyone in my group. I will do everything I can to never have to rely on uhaul again. It seems quite unethical to charge for a 10 foot unit that's 7,5 feet in actuality...

I had some issues with the first two units that were given to me. First one had water outside because of an A/C leak and second the lock couldn't be used because the door mechanism was bent. Katherine G helped me resolve this issue and walked up to the unit with me to make sure it all was ok after the first two issues. I later needed a larger unit and Katherine again walked with me to ensure it was all ok. I very much appreciated her high level of customer service.

Terrible. I arrived to a poorly lit warehouse only to find my space which should fit a 1-2 bedroom apartment was piled on top of a second locker. Somehow, I was supposed to use rickety movable stairs to place furniture into a box 10 feet off the ground. There were also no carts that could actually move a piece of furniture, just those that carry Sheetrock and wood at Home Depot's. No, this was not made clear when I reserved or of course I would not have. Further, my next door neighbor was sleeping in his unit! Feeling unsafe in a poorly lit warehouse with a sleeping stranger, and bewildered as to how I was going to be able to get anything into this locker I booked at another company's nearby location which is clean, well lit, and well appointed. Seriously, what is going on at this location. It's the last thing I needed after and long drive. If you're considering it, just don't. Even free it's not worth it.

Worst experience i've ever had. i didn't get to use my storage unit due to terrible customer service and multiple system issues. I was not able to get a uhaul truck due to the app and different locations having different rules without having prior knowledge.Never got to use my unit because the codes were not working and they kept sending me back which caused me to miss my flight and have to drive back to my home state of wisconsin. terrible experience and will not be using them again.

The online process was very smooth, but when I arrived at the unit there were several issues. First, the elevator was out of service and my unit is on the second floor. This was a huge issue as I had a lot to move into the storage unit and it was an enormous amount of work without an elevator, especially when I expect one and paid for a unit with elevator access. Also, no one notified me that the elevator was broken and the facility didn't do anything to help mitigate the situation. Second, the key pad system to enter the building doesn't seem to work very well. I and other people trying to access their units had issues being let into the building with our code with the system saying "access denied" or "see manager" when we followed the instructions to enter with the code. When we tried to have a u-haul employee help us, they had no idea how to help either or what was wrong. The only option was to try several times to open the door every time we had to enter the building and wait until it eventually worked. Third, there was a pipe/ac tube leaking outside my unit and slightly into my unit. I hope that doesn't flood into my unit very much and ruin any of my belongings. Overall, the facility was clean and well air conditioned, which I was happy about.

When we moved in, the staff members were helpful, but when moving out, one staff member in particular was unnecessarily rude. We had a large moving truck trying to access dock space for move-out, but three of the four spaces were blocked by two U-Haul pods and one small SUV -- even though customer parking was steps away. He went on to berate us for wanting to kindly ask the SUV to move. Not just bad, but shocking actually.

U-Haul has been just SO efficient and pleasant throught this complete 8-9 month experience and now that I have a 2-br appt with enough room to move everything and close my storage account, I almost regret it (I know, sounds ridiculous  ) to close my account with the U-Haul family. The general manager at this location is an incredible human being , and manager , and by extension brand ambassador. I have been renting trucks from him for over 10 years and it's always a fun and smooth process - it's the best U-Haul facility I've ever rented from.

The Manager Osman was a Godsend. He was polite and answered all of my questions since I was cleaning out my storage unit and ending my contract with Uhaul. I don't know what I would have done without him. The other older Black Gentlemen that worked for Uhaul was not friendly at all. He was actually screaming at me when I asked him a question and I have a witness. I was.never rude to him but he was to me. If I can't ask a question to an employee of Uhaul who can I ask?

CENA IS SO SWEET! I HAVE BEEN HAVING MOBILITY PROBLEMS THAT PREVENTED ME FROM GOING TO THE OFFICE TO UNLOCK AN EMPTY LOCKER. SHE STOPPED BY MY APARTMENT TO PICK UP THE KEY AND MADE ANOTHER TRIP TO RETURN IT. I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW GRATEFUL I AM!

I wish there were more cameras in the parking/loading area. My girlfriend's car was hit, and the cameras couldn't see the license plate or person that hit the car. The staff did let us review the cameras and were helpful.

It makes it way harder to store things in the upper units and using a ladder does not easily get the job done. The easiest part was the elevator.

Everything else was well explained except accurate Use of access card to access storage facilities. Communication about use proved so inadequate. There's a general assumption every new client knows the procedure, and staff only ask if you need a card? But having one, without a briefed knowledge of step procedures, definitely subject a client to an immediate state of confusion and delays.

Was not happy that UHaul changed my reservation from a van to a truck late the day before my rental. Then customer service at the 800 number told me I could park the truck at UHaul overnight if I needed a parking place. ((The place I had planned to park the van would not take the truck.) When I checked the DC area UHauls, none of them would allow me to park. Finally found a place to park late at night. It cost me $100!

Opening hours are a joke. If you try to go there past 7pm you will not be able to access your unit because uhaul trucks will be flooding the road blocking your way into storage entrance. This happened to me and ruined my move in plans. I had to take extra vacation from work to continue the move the 2nd day, I had to find a secure parking for a 10ft truck, which is not something easy to find. I called customer service, called the storage location the day of and then the following days, no one ever replied or heard my concerns. Definitely not a good service or a good location to store belongings becuade access hours are random and unoredictable.

This was first experience with any storage unit and was overall positive. There was some confusion about check in processes (wasn't sure how to open doors, did not bring scissors with me to cut the zip tie) but the staff were extremely helpful in getting me figured out. Once I knew what to do I had no issues with the multiple times I entered/exited storage unit.

I used U-Haul for storage and trucks and equipment when I moved : Atl -> DC DC -> Seattle Seattle -> Chicago Chicago -> DC And I must say that as far as customer service and professionalism and just the whole moving experience goes, U-Haul has it down. When mistakes are made (whether yours or theirs) or things go wrong, they show urgency and help resolve the issue quickly. Everyone at every store and every garage was absolutely lovely. And they were real people, not robots. They all made that human connection and made you feel like they cared and wanted to help. Such a consistently pleasant experience over 12 years or so is the rarest thing ever.

A little overworked but helpful

The truck was very old and the check engine light came on while driving for less than an hour, truck was given to us with barely a quarter tank and the AC needs to be replaced as it blew lukewarm stinky air and we could not use on a ⁹⁸° day. When arriving at the storage facility staff was very rude and unhelpful when we arrived an hr before opening we were at the correct place and were mislead by staff of which building to be at then when we asked for help finding unit at the building they took us to, the staff member just walked off and we spent an hour looking for the unit that we moved in online the day before and should have had the lock in it but wasn't ready at all and we had to go back down wait in line to get one. It was incredibly frustrating from start to finish and my worst experience with U-Haul to be honest

The only bad experience is the young lady at the register told me to register on line. My phone was on 5 %. She let me charge my phone. The Wi-Fi was extremely slow bc of the back by the register. But she didn't want to help bc she got off at 3pm. But the young lady with the glasses short finished helping me. The other lady had to leave. My reservation was for 2 but I got there 2:25 it was a line. Please if you don't have people with patience or customer service represent your company they will lose business.
