I had to drive 45 minutes to Truro for the nearest truck, which necessitated my need for a dolly, which I had to pay extra for. The cargo door cables were obviously too loose, as they wrapped around rollers-the first time I opened the door. I had to cut cables to close door. While towing my SUV to our new location, one of the dolly straps broke, causing my vehicle to crash through a sign and into a field. U-Haul agent stated roadside assistance was not included for the towed vehicle, which was listed as being a Honda Civic, which I have never owned, and that the damage would not be covered by U-Haul. FYI, it is called financial liability when a piece of rented equipment fails and results in damages. My lawyer will be in touch.

JOHN KIf you have a reservation and pick-up time for the U-haul equipment, consider that you might be denied the equipment you reserved as the previous renter may want to keep it longer. Always have a plan "B".
TODD ADue to that fact that they used a credit card that was not authorized to use plus harassed me for 6-7 months trying to get me to pay for a unit that was no longer being used by myself. Numerous calls from different people. Made zero since after explaining countless times that I didn't jace a unit.

Luckily I found another trailer a started a new reservation. Overall a good experience. I already have my next trailer reserved.
JASON WI had booked a 6x12 trailer for the day a week before picking up. We came from out of province to move our daughter from university. When I went to pick up trailer at 9 am as instructed I was told to have it returned by 330pm it I had booked for an entire day because of travel time and time to move and re-store furniture. I was given till 530 to return because trailer had been double booked. Upon our return from the valley I was called from U-Haul at approximately 345 wondering where we were and when we would return. The person on the phone had a strong accent and I could not understand them so I said I would be there in 15 mins which I was and trailer was returned early. I was not happy that I was being harassed as to when trailer would be returned because this issue had already been dealt with and I went out of my way to hurry when I should not have had to.
SCOTT SIt seems that the hitch on the trailer is badly worn, because no matter how tightly it was attached to the 2-inch ball on my hitch, it continued to rattle over every bump in the road.
DAVID RDoor swipe instructions to enter building were not clear as to how to check in vs open sliding door vs enter with truck. Swiped the wrong spot on 2 different spots before finding the 3rd swipper which was the correct one to start with. No one informed us that there would be a pillar in our unit. Unit was very clean. Map was clear as to how to locate our unit. Staff was very friendly. Lots of carts are available for transporting items.

JOHN WAny other time I've rented a vehicle from U-Haul, I received a full tank of gas and filled it again when I was done. This time, the tank was 3/4 full and I was asked to refill it to 3/4 which means trying to guess how much gas I used. Completely ridiculous. Ended up putting way to much in to avoid potential penalties. Why the change? Very aggravating.

Changing a booking for the size of truck for day of travel was big hassle. Availability for truck was stressful being moved from location numerous time. Thanks to Beverly in New Glasgow Location by exit 20 who helped to locate a truck twice move was successful. Other places did not care or follow up to help.
NICHOLAS JI initially booked the truck at this location approx. a month in advance only to be told I had to go to Pleasant Valley rd. Pictou County to pick up. This is about 60km out of my way. I do not understand this where I pre booked and also ad calls stating that the 20' truck I booked was not available. I did get a 20' after saying I would not accept a smaller truck. For this reason I would be hesitant to rent another truck from U haul. Both locations were great to deal with and I do not feel these issues were their problem
Sandy LCheck in process was smooth - returning the truck was a complete shit show!!! The dude took the key to check the km & did not return. We waited for 20 minutes. 5 minutes past closing time & he was still not back … from checking simple km!! We left! Only received a $2 refund after FILLING the gas tank (when it should have only been 3/4) && used LESS km that originally quoted!!

CONNOR JEmployees are doing an excellent job, the UHaul systems need significant upgrades. The system is outdated and it makes customer service really really slow. Payments take ages, and input into the system takes the customer and the UHaul employee in circles which takes so much time. Something with a robust CRM system would take seconds took probably 20 minutes. Beyond this, it seems the security system was glitchy which reduces my trust of storing my things.

MEGHANN CYour staff are very good. They provided me with efficient service and a pleasant experience. Your van seems to need some work on its suspension - probably new shocks. It was unstable, bouncing around, leaning too much on curves, etc. Other than that, the van performed well.

I took the truck to local dealership for my truck, it was inspected by auto tech at dealership and found to be fully operational . The problem was with trailer wiring. Went I returned to u haul the wiring connection on the u haul equiptment was changed. The trailer lights operated normally with my truck. But this issue set me back by an full hour
DONALD FI am extremely displeased and disappointed by my recent rental of a 20 ft truck on March 1, 2025. This rental was made on behalf of a local non-profit organization. The purpose was to transport 18 E-Bikes to individuals in Sydney, NS, which our organization received as a donation. Within the first 90 Mins of receiving the truck, the check engine light came on. I called the office and was reassured that it was "likely a tire sensor." The truck then stalled completely at a 4 way stop. We were forced to make the difficult decision to abandon our plans and return this obviously unsafe/unreliable vehicle. As a result, those in need of these the bikes (for transportation to work/school/completing activities of daily living) are left waiting. Plus, our organization has incurred additional/unexpected costs related to unplanned storage of the bikes & the expense of hiring movers. U-Haul, please do the right thing & provide me with a full refund.
LEAH AHad 2 storage units in Bible Hill. Doors were froze had to wait for someone to come thaw them. No one on site. Unable to get in buildi g with code to use the washroom. The parking lot was a sheet of ice. Multiple vehicles just spun tires because of it. One unit leaked destroying furniture.
TROY COur initial involvement was fine. The staff were helpful and things went well - however, we returned our vehicle "afterhours" which was fine as well but then got a call the next morning to say there was damage to the vehicle. We knew we had done no damage and we were very concerned - anyway fortunately we had taken pictures of the vehicle prior to moving the vehicle (only because I saw someone else do the same thing). As it turned out the miniscule "damage" to the plastic bumper was already done by someone else. If I hadn't taken those pictures I dread to think what kind of problems we would have had. I recommend to anyone renting these vehicles to scour the unit from back to front before taking possession because the "damage" was difficult to see due to the salt and mud covering the back of the vehicle and without the pictures and being able to scrutinize up close we would have had a real mess on our hands. Actually there was another customer there when we went in to discuss this with the staff and to show the pics - he came to me afterwards and asked if they were trying to charge us with some damage etc and said that he has experienced the same problem every time he's rented from them but he felt stuck because they were basically the "only game in town". Anyway BUYER BEWARE!!!

MICHAEL L | Expérience généraleI went to pick up my truck, and although this wasn't my first time renting a truck, I've done it multiple times in the past. The girl who rented the truck to me provided great service, no doubt. I got the keys and went to my truck. I was just in the parking lot when I noticed the brake lights were on. I tried to figure out if I could fix something, but nothing worked, so I decided to ask someone for help. I found another girl and explained the issue. She told me, "Oh, don't worry, it's fine. At least the truck works, and you can drive it." I wasn't satisfied with her response, so I went back to see if I could find someone more senior. There was a guy, so I asked him to check it out. He came over and said, "Oh, the light is on because it's parked, but once you start driving, it will go off." I was skeptical, so I suggested, "Why don't you drive it for a minute, and let's see what happens?" He agreed and drove the truck while I sat next to him. The light was still on, so he said, "Let me call someone." He couldn't get a different truck right away, as there seemed to be a policy about returning trucks to other locations. Fortunately, they found a customer who would pay to have the truck moved, but it meant uncertainty throughout my trip. He told me they had arranged that, but I still needed to take the truck. He assured me there shouldn't be any problems. Since I didn't have another option, I agreed. I had to drive the truck for 120 km with that uncertainty hanging over me. Luckily, nothing happened during my trip, but the main issue with this experience was the uncertainty. I wasn't sure if something would go wrong while driving. I don't approve of U-Haul for this, and I think they should ensure their vehicles are properly updated and repaired so customers can rely on them completely.

PHILIP HI was standing in the retail store with nobody around for several minutes. An employee came through the front door looked at me and didn't say a word. Walked right past me at about 6 feet away and never said a thing or acknowledged me. A minute later he came back by and didn't say anything again and was going back outside when I spoke up. I wasn't thrilled being walked right past twice without a word. When I asked he said someone else would be out. The second employee was excellent and I returned the trailer.

SHAWN ROnly issue I had was upon close out. The lady that took my info on a Saturday told me she would get someone to close it out on Monday. Because she didn't know how. And that I would get a email stating so on Monday. So by Friday still no email I had to go back in and my rental was still active. Had not been cancelled yet. The worker on shift at that point was able to close out for me and had confirmation immediately. Other than this little glitch my rental experience was great.!

He should get a raise for having to deal with the inadequacies of the company. It is a sin really that front line workers have to absorb the discontent from customers because U-Haul is so greedy!
DARREN DThis unit is well maintained and temperatures kept at a reasonable level. Staff have always been there to answer any questions I may have had and were always friendly about doing so. I will definitely be back if I have any further storage needs.

KENNETH VGas was wrong, they said it was at 1/2. It was on empty. They entered the wrong drop off location and I was almost charged an extra 400$, had to call has office in Halifax twice at drop off. It was 25 minutes to get it sorted out.

FERNANDO LThe U-Haul in Truro NS is much neater and cleaner than the one in Sherbrooke St near Summerside PEI. The one over there was dirty and the 15ft truck was filthy with empty cups and paper under the seats it seems as though the workers never clean the truck before we got it.

She was also around again when I was starting to make my way to the office because there was no lock located in my unit like I was told there would be. But she promptly got me one and was extremely helpful. I wish I could remember her name because she was great. I have heard some unsettling things about the storage facility in Truro and Bible Hill (about people supposedly paying but being locked out of their unit) so I was a bit hesitant, but I'm hoping for a flawless use of the facility. I'm also unsure of when the amount is due each month. More clarification on that would have been helpful unless I just missed it.

WADE Dwe picked up our rental on a Sat night/ 6ish - there was a young man working alone at the desk - it was non stop people looking for rental space/units - he was extremely polite, calm and very professional and efficient - even with people waiting in line. I was surprised to see any one out on a Sat night looking for service even though it was Nov 30 - we had 24 hour rental because we only got keys to the apartment on the 1st. Thank you to the young man who did a great job in service, that is not something we see or expected. Kudos...

However, this time they insisted on calling my wife, for some reason , to confirm it.my eife is quite often on zoom meetings and can't answer the phone. This is going to make it awkward to rent if every time you need to call her to confirm it. Some times she won't be available to answer her phone. I asked if the one confirmation e we could be noted snd enough and was told that now the corporate policy is that they have to confirm it every time and if they can't reach her because she's in a meeting, they can't rent to me. This is a ridiculous policy. If you confirm the alternate number , it should be on my file as confirmed and I should not have to risk making arrangements and then finding out I have to cancel them because you can't reach my wife , whom you've already confirmed as a valid alternate number

Theresa j | Expérience généraleI found the new process of checking out a truck quite frustrating, where you click the link then follow online prompts to take pictures of different angles of the truck and miles didn't work well with my camera, it was a full and busy parking lot, and the camera seemed zoomed in so I had to walk so far away to get the picture and for the miles it would not focus so it was legible.

Lance P | Expérience généraleThe questions you ask for feedback about are given yes or no style answers and I think you'd get more accurate feedback if it were on a scale of 1-5 or if it had the option of short answers. The facility was dirty because the garbage can next to the exit was removed, which was intended to prevent abuse of the garbage disposal inside the building, but the garbage accumulated in the community sharing-area anyway, and on the ground beside the exit, in the same place the can used to be. Removing the garbage can did not remove the trash, it just shifted it and made small garbage items collect on and beside useful furniture and in the hallway. Also, I'm not impressed whatsoever by the policy that I cannot get a partial refund for the last month I was there, considering I've been a patron for over a year and only used one week of my final month. Someone will most likely immediately take my unit and its not like you're going to be put out to treat me with respect. I would recommend reflecting on this policy and would suggest a policy revision. Leaves a very bad taste in my mouth of corporate greed in what was for the most part a fairly smooth and reliable service otherwise.

I always felt comfortable that they were in the best place possible; that is, just like home! Also, your U-Haul boxes are awesome. I used the size small square boxes as they were easy for me to carry and store. I sealed the boxes closed with your roll of brown tape. That tape is the best I have ever used on any closure. Before I left your facility I bought an extra roll. :) Thank you so much for the great customer service and being a fantastic facility.

Though as warm and humid as it's been it was sad to see staff running around in hoodies. Staff commented on how hot it was but he was made to wear the hoodie. If it's true they are made to wear them and have no choice Please reconsider. It's not a good look seeing staff physically uncomfortable because of a uniform they are made to wear.

As a senior I found this difficult. I would like to see an access door from the lockers to the reception area. I also was disappointed to see delinquent fees on several invoices sent to me. It upset me, as I know we arranged for the payment to come off my VISA on a monthly basis. I appreciated Michelle friendly and business like manner and I think invoices came from the main office in the US and I would very much appreciate receiving a full account of what I was charged per locker per month and when I was charged roughly $15,00 delinquent fees, I would expect to have proof that my VISA was reimbured these fees as I was under the impression the amounts for all three rentals were billed to VISA automatically. I couldn't pay for half a month had to be a full month. I paid and they shut my account. So now as my unit is empty and cleaned they can reuse it and earn more money on something I paid for. I would look into changing your policy or not shutting down an account till it's over.

My unit has no working light , there was a pillar in the middle taking up alot ofcspacd but i was charged the full price??? Then there were homeless people staying in units...the security system didn't work my card to de activate the zlarm didn't work. Was told its being worked on to it was fixed to dontvwory its OK ..good thing I had insurance I guess no ond ever came to check out the alarms not only on my unit but every other alarm that went off ...on check out the store said to xall ..I did but was directed to the 1 800 number centre ...they said ...ohh u havd to go into the store..I moved to a different county so it was extremely fistrating ..the call centre nited my account n suggested i call the store which i did but yet another mess up...so another call to the store still another hassle. given wrong info and just recueved another email saying I was overdue ..I had the unit clear on Oct 31st ..just redicioulous ...the store blamed the call xentrexand the centre blamed the store ..the only reason I used uhaul tye 3 times I did was because there was absolutely no other moving and storage providers..the only saving grace was the uhaul depot in Ambercrombie Automotive in New Glassgow He went above and beyond absolutely fantastic and even apologized for all the inconvenience, misinformation and trouble we went through just an outstanding depot

INGRID T | Premières impressionsThe reason I have give these ratings is because the two times I tried to get in on the weekend or after 7 PM I could not because the door is broken. The first time I thought it was something I was doing wrong and I just had to come back another day which inconvenienced my friend who had a truck and was helping me as well. When I called U-Haul, there was nothing they were able to do and they tried to contacted the manager shortly after 7 pm, but got no response, so I simply could not access the facility. I was lucky my friend was able to help me that day because he goes on the road for work and luckily happened to be home the next day next when the facility was unlocked. On the day I moved out, I went there before seven to make sure I could access the facility before I got my sons to come with the truck. I tried to get in I could not, and by the time I went up to the main door, the staff had left. A stranger basically tried to show me how to force the lock to open the door, but I wasn't strong enough, so I got him to let me back inside and I had to simply wait there until my helpers could arrive to make sure I would have access to the building. The gentleman who helped me, said he had reported the door being broken previously, numerous times. For all of the money that I paid for that storage unit I should've been able to get in there anytime that I needed to. However I will say, each time I went there to see the staff they were very helpful and friendly.

I paid $140 for THREE DAYS of storage unit access because I am a shift worker (16hr shifts) and could not get there in time to empty it out. I guarantee that this unit has been rented out again already, therefore allowing you to "double dip" on the profit, which is very disheartening as a consumer. I will be filing an official complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

We didn't get an access card until we were locked out of accessing our unit after staffed hours. When we inquired in person we were told we needed an access card and given one. After two years of renting our unit, we emptied our unit on the weekend, and finished after staffed hours. Living a distance from the unit, we checked out online. No one contacted us, and after a week of waiting for check out and our renewal coming up, we called. They asked who we had spoken to. "No one, we started the move out process online." And then we were told, oh, we don't use the website, you have to contact the office. How? It was closed when we moved out. Altogether we spent over $4000 on our unit, but we remained just a number until the end. Uhaul is a great company to work with. Pick another location for your storage.

Due to the stress of my situation I had not notice they took my credit card and booked it that day on the 2nd of April.i rented my trailer the same day and moved in the locker April 7th. I did not realize the error until it was billed automatically May 2nd. I spoke to manager Riley and she said nothing I can do to bad for me basically. I then already rented the trailer for May 7th so I could move into my new home May 8th even though I totally got screwed over. I brought the trailer back on May 9th. Manager Riley was told I am done with this locker move me out of it as again I did not need. She obviously did not do so as I was called for 2 days saying I have no lock on the locker. Well of course not I told her to move me our. Needless to say this is the last time will ever deal with you. I have told this story to friends already and all of them could not believe the in human treatment and rip off. Riley wouldn't even give me a break on the trailer rental. So I know nothing will be one for and I am wasting my energy here but I wanted you to know I will make sure I let as many people as I know of the treatment you get from UHAUL

(4131) Not a great first impression. It does not feel safe or secure.

The agent on the phone said that this unit was on hold for me and would be available when I arrived. Turned out, however, that the unit was not available. In fact, the store agent at the time said no units were available! I was deeply disappointed in this because my province to province move required a unit of that size. In the end, the staff did find a smaller unit available, and gave me some money off the renting fee. I was happy about this, but still disappointed at the larger system of "booking" a unit for a customer that didn't exist. It's akin to an airline over selling their tickets. I think it's a poor business practice. In any case, this was the worst part of the experience. Everything has been top notch. In particular, the staff and management at the Court Street Truro NS location were absolutely wonderful!

Brandon , the Truro manager , did everything he could to help me but in the end he had to refer me to the contact centre. Several calls to the contact centre were made I was unable to get hold of anyone that could help me. I booked a space anyway, which was not the Truro Court St. locatifon , it was the Main St. SELF CHECK IN location. I booked these but was unable to check in the day before as it kept looping me back to the beginning, but still chargling my credit card. I arrived to the Court St. location on the day of moving to see if I could get checked in there and I was unable to. I had movers in the yard , and I was paying 300/hr. My angel came in the form of Mellisa Wright, would was able to secure a spaces at the Court St. location and booked them side by side. You have no idea how grateful I am for her extraordinary patience and service that day. I also wanted to point out how spotless the location is! Melissa advised me she did the cleaning there. I would have eaten off the floor is was so clean. Please note the above recommendation is for the Truro location only. My experience with your online booking system and you contact centre I would rate in the negative. You folks need so much work on your IT and your call wait times! Eventually my cc problems did get sorted out but I suspect it was the Truro employees you send it up the chain. Regards, Maureen Brennan

neil m | Expérience généraleThe only issue with the facility: When first opened -- and after having paid for a locker -- work was not complete on the facility itself. For an excessive amount of time, it was not possible to get to our locker. Compensation of no kind was offered for the inconvenience. NO complaints about staff, they did all they could. Head office or District Manager (?) should have offered something: Reduced rate, a free month, something.
todd h | Expérience généraleI was frustrated with having to walk around the building several times because the swipe card was not working, Pushing the help button on the swiper received no response. I think it would have been more courteous to accompany me to demonstrate and introduce me to the procedure and the location of the unit. I had been up all night packing and cleaning and then driving 4 1/2 hours (I stopped for a 45 minute nap) and was very tired. Luckily the elevator didn't stop working until our last load and the employee that came to look and help us find the stairwell was very helpful and kind. Drive-in and unload was very convenient and the trolleys worked well with a large elevator. I like the historical content of the building as I grew up bowling there every Saturday.
