What should have been a simple four-hour U-Haul rental has turned into a complete billing nightmare. I reserved a 15-foot truck for $29.95, drove 65 miles, and returned it within the agreed rental period with the same amount of fuel as when I picked it up. My total should have been approximately $107 for the truck and mileage, before any legitimate applicable fees. Instead, I was charged for insurance I specifically declined, a $30 fuel service fee, another $18.38 for fuel I did not owe, and taxes despite providing my business's sales tax exemption documentation. My original reservation clearly confirms that I declined insurance and additional equipment. I also have photographs, receipts, and written correspondence documenting the entire experience. The final rental receipt showed $184.15, and somehow additional charges are STILL being added to my American Express account nearly a week after I returned the truck. I've repeatedly contacted the location, provided documentation, and been told a manager would contact me. Nothing has been resolved, and I have yet to receive the promised refunds. This is completely unacceptable. How does a four-hour rental turn into multiple charges that continue accumulating days after the vehicle was returned? I'm requesting an immediate refund of all unauthorized charges, a complete accounting of every transaction, and confirmation that no further charges will be processed. At this point, I intend to dispute the charges with American Express and escalate this directly to U-Haul corporate. I would strongly caution anyone against renting from this location.
