The pick-up time was scheduled for 9 am but I didn't receive possession of the truck untill after noon. It hadn't been filled with gas and was dirty. I attempted to fill the tank with gas as the owner was doing other things. He came out to the pump and insisted that I not fill the tank. He only allowed me to put $205 in gas in it which brought it to slightly over the half way point. I explained that I have always recieved them full and brought them back full. He said that is not how it's done. Then he made me pay the $205 before I left and said he would refund me the balance. That is not how I have done it in the past. He also admitted when I brought the truck back that he hadn't taken a picture of the gas level before I left. So how can he or I be certain how much gas I used. When I told him I was going to look into this procedure he refunded me $30 towards the gas. The only reason you wouldn't fill the gas tank is so no one can be certain how much gas has been used and the customer can be fleeced for extra money. Making me pay for the gas in advance is a shady way of ensuring the customer buys his gas. His gas station is the most expensive one in the area and I would never have bought gas from him. I would have filled the tank elsewhere and saved some money. This is the worst experience I have ever had with U-Haul and I have rented from them many times through the years. This operator should be investigated as I am sure he does this to all his customers. Crook...

John KClients would very much appreciate that all vehicles whether it's a truck or trailer, be inspected for damage and cleanliness upon arrival, to ensure that the next client receives a unit that has been given the attention it deserves. There should be a checklist showing who inspected it and when the inspection was done, this checklist should be counter signed by the new client agreeing to rent it prior to him / her leaving the pickup location. Conversely, the same checklist exercise should be completed when the client drops the unit off after use. U-Haul area managers should be visiting their various locations more often to ensure that U-Haul standards are being respected.
