Jelmer DI was charged a $25 cleaning fee for footprints I think. I’m not sure if it’s different here in Alamogordo, but it felt like a money grab opportunity especially since I’ve never been charged a cleaning fee for footprints or on any of my previous u-Haul rentals. I pride myself on being a good customer with U-Haul making sure to return any vehicle in the condition that I rented it in. For reference I used the U-Haul to move a brand new washer and dryer from the store to my house. I went about 22 miles with no other stops. I understand that I could have wiped down the floor area of the U-Haul, but I didn’t think that that was necessary, especially since it was the floor area near the pedals and the step to get into the truck. I was asked if the next family would be able to use the vehicle in that state and they would have been able to but I assumed that the next family would leave their own set of footprints in the same area. But if that is a standard that this particular location has, I guess I have to respect it, but I’ll be sure to keep it in mind if I decide to use them again. Everything else was perfect. There was no one there for the pick up or the drop off but the mobile pick up and drop off works like a charm. I would have preferred there be a person there to let me know about their standard of cleaning, especially since I had a microfiber and cleaning supplies in the back of my vehicle that I could’ve used to wipe down the cab area just to avoid the cleaning fee.
