I rented a van advertised for $19.95/day. By the time I returned it, 4 hours later, the charges were about $100.00, a far cry more than the advertised charge. The gas tank was a little more than 1/2 full when picked up and I had to guess at the amount that was needed to return it with the same amount I started with. The woman who assisted in the rental was a bit terse and suggested that if I did not complete the agreement on my phone when I was standing in front of her in the office I would be charged as if the car was not returned/stolen. I wonder what people do if they do not have a cell phone. I have rented from U-Haul in the past but will very unlikely do so in the future.

First of all you can start by not sending customers to 4 different locations to pick up a UHaul that was reserved 2 weeks prior to needing it. 2nd you can fire the jerk at the El Sobrante location (Arco Station, 2nd location I was sent to) Moving is stressful enough without his rudeness. Je gave away my Uhaul and didn't say anything but " I dont have any, go up the street". Paid 2100 dollars for this and I honestly do not know how you stay in business treatingypur customers in thos fashion. Got a whole 50 dollars back for my inconvenience. I live in Vallejo, and had to go to downtown Oakland. Ever been to downtown Oakland? Ever had to sit in that traffic on the way to Oakland?? You guys put me at least 3 hours behind d schedule. Your service in that area sucks. The only helpful person was the guy at the 2nd location in El Sobrante, not the jerk at the Arco Station. The guy at the 2nd location deserves a raise and a pat on the back, at least he gave a crap about helping me. UNBELIEVABLE!!

customer service has been really bad. there was no one at the counter for 20+ minutes and then the white man who came out tried to tell us that we were supposed to self check out when that setup was not available yet. it was truly infuriating because there had not been any communication about that at all. this is not the first time this has happened to me and my staff who come to pick up uhauls almost every week.

The online rental process was ridiculously time consuming and i do not want to rent from uhaul after that. go back to the old way of renting where employees help out

I reserved a truck in Alameda on Sherman St, but you guys had me go to a more farther place in Oakland which meant it would be more expensive for me.

The attendants were excellent. The man who took care of rental was polite and respectful, and the man who took the vehicle back from me was the same, as well as very responsive. Good service! Obviously, the only thing wrong with the location was the location itself... nothing in it was a problem. The neighborhood is dicey, but the actual facility was well kept, neat and well organized. Everything about it gave me confidence I would be well treated, and I was.

The guys and young lady have great customer service.The lead was a little frustrated and short with conversation because he was the only one up front on register,helping basically myself and another customer.I would of gave 4 stars but the fact that they dont have enough staff on registers causes the wait time to be extremely too long.They are working overtime to please customers and arent being supported properly by the upper management.Thats not fare to the staff or customers.Employees should be supported 100%,so that they can give that same service to the customers. Store was clean,rental was clean as well and the return was a smooth process.

Another U-Haul location asked me to come here because this location had the 5x8 enclosed trailer that I was looking for. I knew that the trailer was reserved for starting the next day, but since I only needed it for a few hours, it wouldn’t interfere. When I tried to rent the trailer from this location, the clerk tried to get me to take 2 other trailers. I told him that I’d carefully read the measurements online and only the 5x8 enclosed would meet my needs. He told me that they only had one and it was reserved. Thankfully, since the other location gave me the full details, I pointed out that it is only reserved tomorrow. The clerk unbelievably said, “yeah, but it’s a one-way and I’d rather rent to him”. I thought that I must’ve been misunderstanding something so I explained again that I only needed it for a few hours and that he could rent to both of us. He acted like he was doing me a big favor by relenting and permitting me to rent the trailer.

Clear signage about where to enter from the street, this is a crowded urban area and the big trucks would especially benefit from having an entrance lane clearly marked

I had a horrible experience dealing with the road side assistance. I was on the phone for over 2 hours without talking to an actual person except to be transferred, put on hold, or told i needed to call another number. In the end I found out I needed to pay for the service out of pocket and spent those 2 hours wasting my time when I could have just called a tow service myself which arrived in under 10 min, Horrible customer service if you're ever in need of roadside assistance.

Not this location, but national U-Haul might take care to give renters the correct opening and closing hours for locations - and not just list rentals as of 12.00am to 12.00am! Fortunately, I called the location first, but even so I didn't realize my consequent 7.00am pick-up time was also their opening hour, so, arriving early, I had to wait (because there was soon a long line of customers, this was not in itself a bad thing, but...). There would be nothing unlikely about a 24-hour large urban U-Haul location, so national's precision on hours should be automatic.

I felt sketchy about leaving the appliance dolly in the back of the truck because I didn't want anyone to take it and then be held liable. So I dropped it off today.
