An odd thing happened when I was picking up the trailer at Bewise in Lagrangeville. I had just attached the hitch to my Outback using the hitch pin and shank like I've done many times. The hitch and hitch pin were firmly in place like usual. At Bewise someone on their staff attached the trailer then said I could drive away. However, the trailer immediately came loose and dragged on the ground. The shank and hitch pin had both gone missing. The Bewise employee said that they must've come loose during my (20 minute) drive to their location. I'm very skeptical that this happened. Then this employee said that for $10 he would sell me his personal shank and hitch pin. I was in a rush so I paid him for the items and proceeded on my way. It felt like a scam to me but I don't know how I would prove this. That said, I won't reserving UHaul rentals from Bewise in Lagrangeville again.
