To Whom it May Concern – On August 12, 2018, my husband and I picked up a U-Haul from 4831 SE Powell Blvd. in Portland, OR. We completed an inspection of the vehicle with Tyson Pfau. The contract number is 22696102. Tyson came out and completed an inspection of the U-Haul with my husband. However, Tyson did not look under the U-Haul or check to see if the fuel line was intact. When we got the car, it had about half a tank of gas. We drove the truck to Eugene, got it unpacked, and went to return the vehicle. When we stopped to put fuel in the vehicle, it started spraying everywhere. The gas station attendant looked under the vehicle and informed us it was clear that the fuel line had been cut. Luckily, we were close to the drop off spot so we drove it there and called U-Haul Roadside. At this point, the car began to smoke and fume. Roadside told us it was critical not to get back inside the car. Unfortunately, the drop off location we were scheduled to drop off at doesn’t take keys after hours. Consequently, they asked us to come back in the morning and drop off the keys. Roadside asked us where the car was. We told them exactly. They said to leave it there, again stressing the importance of not moving the car. The drop off location was 1796 Willamette in Eugene. The next morning, we were exhausted from moving. Nonetheless, I started getting strange calls coming in at 6:52 am. The caller left no message. I got another call from the same number at 7:11 am. This time, he left a message. The message says, “yes message is for Aaron Read, Aaron the U-Haul you dropped off has our car wash exit blocked I can’t open that up until its moved it costs $100 an hour to have that car wash down if I don’t hear from you by 8 am I will call a locksmith and have them make a key for that truck, have it moved, and you will be responsible for that as well.” He didn’t call in his U-Haul capacity. He called from his cell. That number is (541) 844-8410. Though U-Haul calls are recorded per a corporate representative, the corporate representative said it is common that their employees will call from their cells to get around having them recorded. My husband called the man back immediately and tried to explain what happened with the fuel line. He explained Roadside had urged us not get back in the vehicle because it could explode at any moment. The man said he didn’t care. He said we needed to come move it now and hung up on us. We rushed there and gave him the key. The U-Haul was hardly blocking the man’s car wash. At that time, contrary to what we had already been advised by Roadside and customer service, he told us he would be charging us $40 for not putting fuel in the tank, charging us for the fuel line, and the whole cost of the U-Haul. Then, he asked my husband to get in the car and move it. He refused, unwilling to risk his life for U-Haul. The man got in the car and moved it himself. He didn’t apologize for our inconvenience. My only concern was that I had to go to another location to get the 10-foot Mini Mover I had ordered from the Sandy Blvd. center months earlier. The 15-footer they offered me would have been too large for my needs. I understand truck availability is not certain at each particular location, but I just wish I could pick up the truck I ordered at the original location. Staff at both locations were very helpful and courteous, and that made things easier. Justin Nelson and Wesley were great to work with.

I learned that the actual equipment sizes are online--I rented a 5x9 trailer, and I found out through experience that it is actually 4'4" x 9', which made a big difference in what I was hauling (riding lawn mower) and I almost couldn't get it in. It would be more helpful if the actual sizes were more transparently available/located.

Vans Towing location was closed on Sunday with normal Sunday hours, very unsafe location to leave Trailer with no personel present to let you into well locked facility. Several other customers arrived in same time frame and feared leaving trucks and trailers. Uhaul on Powell felt safe to leave trailer without being open and sent prompt morning email with receipt. Belmont location location would need take trailer and was in a very scary area filled with many homeless campers right there. Drop off experience took 2.5 hours.

So first off I reserved the uhaul and a dolly usage online. Go to the place, where given the keys and we thought the dolly would be in the back. Nope, was not there. So instead of getting started with the move (we only had the uhaul for a few hours) I spent about 15 minuets on hold to call the company to let them know that I didnt get the dolly and to not charge me (I called the number for the location that was on google). Finally got someone, they told me they would contact the location to stop the charge and to expect a call from them. Guess who never got that call. Guess who still got charged for moving equipment that was never received!!!!

We did the self check-in and were not able to get a vehicle when we arrived ended up having to repeatedly call someone until they finally got in touch and rushed out to the store to get us the truck. We were told it was because someone didn't return a truck, even though there were at least five trucks in the parking lot of that size. We need a reservation for specific time because we had moving help coming and we ended up late. Would never use again

The service scheduling was excellent, the service at the counter at pickup was adequate but the LACK of service at drop off was terrible! 8/1/2018-Store closes at 7pm, we were there before closing time and we saw a gentleman on the lot, so we called out to him with a question- "where to pull in the vehicle?". He acted like he didn't hear or see us and made a Bee-Line for the back door of the shop. When we went to the shop, he had it all locked up AND had turned on loud music so he could have an excuse not to hear us nocking. Now that's customer service! Do your business and that employee a favor and get him a job where he DOESN'T deal with customers.
