We used a cargo van on a holiday when the office location was closed. I called to set up the reservation a couple of weeks before the holiday, and they called the day before to confirm the reservation. The cargo van was ready for us when we arrived and the self check-in process was easy (though you do need a smart phone). We did not have any trouble and would use this service again.

The online reservation process seemed easy, but when I got to the site early in the morning, the glitches just kept coming.. I had no idea I had to submit so much extra info through my phone and it seems that my pick up time and phone number had been altered by something. Thank goodness the manager was there on time so that I could finish the process and get moving. He was really helpful. The U-Haul online process for renting was horrible.

The truck was dirty inside and who knows what person used it before me? During a pandemic it should have been wiped down and sanitized but it smelled weird and was dusty inside


The cab had a small amount of garbage from the previous renter. The rubber seals around the driver door were loose and hanging so lots of air noise. I pushed it back in place before leaving for Oregon. The truck ran good.


The technology needs to be more user friendly. This is the 2nd time that I have used the online check in. Way too many problems -- this has been an issue for close to one year. Still not addressed. I plan to follow up on this issue. If this is going to be the process for checking In. Timing out, before the checklist has been completed. Not able to see the screen on the cell phone in sunlight. Damage review email - expired. My question -- how do you as a large business -- expect to have repeat business, if these issues are not corrected -- IMMEDIATELY. In the glove compartment were 2 sweet rolls and a box with an odd looking, yellow fruit inside, left by the last users.. I suggest that this compartment be checked regularly. I had trouble getting the truck out of "park". Like it was IMPOSSIBLE. I called U-Haul, and spent nearly 15 mins being transferred to different people. I hung up & then called 10 mins later. Consistently, no one could tell me how to solve this problem. (The truck manual failed to address it as well.) Ultimately, my husband called a Chevrolet dealer; he solved the problem. You turn the key, press on the "park" button and turn the steering wheel back & forth --- Morale? Don't leave the U-Haul premises without being certain you know how to put vehicle into park and how to take it out of park.

my reservation was for Saturday at 8 am. you had me pick up my truck in Davis (22 miles away from my reservation pick up in Elk Grove) at 2 pm (6 hours later than my reserved time).


The staff didn't pick up the phone when I called. I also couldn't reach a rep when I called the 1-800 number. Thankfully, it wasn't an emergency. Experience was great otherwise.

I requested a dolly and none was with the truck. No attendant was available at the location. Have been unable to get a refund.

It would be nice if someone could make sure the side mirrors are adjusted right for driver. I wasn't able to adjust because they were too hard to move. You had to do manually.


I received email saying my reservation was cancelled when it wasn't, which was confusing and stressful. That aside, I called the location to reschedule my reservation time and the representative said that would work fine. The day of he called me the day of to tell me I was late for the original pickup time. He said he didn't remember agreeing to the adjusted time, but I definitely spoke to the same person. I felt rushed because he let me know I needed to be there by 12 sharp so he could go to lunch. Seemed disorganized and rude. The young man who helped me return the truck was incredibly polite and helpful.

I think that your mobile checkout system needs a little tweaking. I did not know that I was responsible for checking the final milage. I had entered a guess milage because I had already put the key into the key lockbox. So in your text message for checking out after the business closes to check the milage before returning the key.

I reserved a dolly but it was not available at the time of my move. Perhaps this was because I changed my reservation to a one-way trip a few days prior to the day of but I did still include the dolly on my reservation and was disappointed to not be given one and I had to go out and buy one. The staff who helped me, however, was very helpful upon pick up.

Office is inside a self-storage facility and not easily accessible unless the gate happens to be open. No obvious instructions outside as to how to access or use the facility for vehicle rental or how to complete the self-service process using your smart phone. It just so happened that pickup occurred when a gas powered leaf blower was in use making communication difficult.


I don't think vehicles are sanitized after each use. It may be impracticable to do so, but it is not a good practice during these days. I wiped the steering wheel, door handles, all The knobs and handles. My overall experience has always been pleasant at this location. Especially, this time the staff appeared friendlier than those I encountered during my previous visits.

Remove/retrain the employee working. He spent the entire interaction railing against U-Haul and refused to sell us the needed supplies apparently b/c he thought this would be damaging to U-Haul. With all the talk of additional measures in light of COVID, the truck was disgustingly dirty and there did not appear to be any effort to do the minimal cleaning let alone anything additional in the fight against COVID.
