The truck was a 15' ford. 2009 model with nearly 200 000 miles on it. There was not a single drop of oil on the dipstick. It was bone dry. There were no visible oil leaks or drops or spatters and the exhaust was clean so it was not dumping oil, dripping oil, or burning oil. It had simply NOT been checked by anyone in a very, very long time. I had to buy and insert 3 quarts just to get an oil level in the pan to register, then had to insert 2 more quarts to bring it up to where it belonged. I then drove the truck 400+ miles and the oil level was still satisfactory. Does anybody EVER check these trucks? If I had not checked it and then spent $30 on oil, I would have had a catastrophic engine failure in the middle of an eastern Oregon desert at 15 degrees.
