In the first place, U-Haul needs to make sure customers understand that they "request" a pickup location, but that location IS NOT GUARANTEED. I got an email telling me that my pickup location was 20 miles from my requested location. I called U-Haul the day before to VERIFY that my truck was at my preferred location, and was told it was. I showed up on time at my pickup location, only to find out that the U-Haul rep on the phone had given me incorrect information. Driving 25 miles out of my way and back was inconvenient. But, even more inconvenient was the loss of 2 hours of moving time. I have ALWAYS been able to pick up a truck at the place I chose. Better make sure this is really made clear to other people. The truck I received (10' box) was advertised as getting 24 mpg. It got 12.2 on interstate miles, which means that my fuel costs were double what I had planned. In addition, the Tire-Inflation Sensor in the left rear tire was not working properly. The location manager showed me that the tire was inflated properly, and I checked it along the way (1150 miles) to be sure. But I had a warning light staring at me the whole time, which was unnerving.

The truck we were suppose to get wouldn't start. So the paper qork we had didnt match the truck. She said we could get it when I got back. Then when I went to return it the lady said we used more gas than we did. But didnt have updated paperwork

Only redeeming factor of this rental was the Manager at this site. Our reservation was screwed up from the start - she worked w/ us to fix it correctly.

Have more than one customer service person on site. When I arrived there was no one in the store. She was out helping another customer in a separate part of the facility leaving the store portion unattended. That can't possibly be safe for any employee let alone a female.

The employee paid no attention to her surroundings when backing up to move the rental truck and subsequently backed the truck up into our personal car causing extensive damage.

What a dump. There was one person for customers six people deep. The person behind the counter did the best he could while he was behind the counter, but was less than pleasant to my brother-in-law who was thanking him for unhooking the trailer. Perhaps being completely overworked and having to leave the desk to check in vehicles makes you flustered. What made it even worse was that I was supposed to drop the vehicle off at 4901B 1st Avenue North, Birmingham - what it says on my contract, otherwise known as Teague Automotive - a CLOSED LOCATION THAT NO LONGER EXISTS. When I called your 1-800 number to find out what to do, I was on hold for 7 minutes, then 4 minutes. Thanks, Google, for telling me where to go. First, take the CLOSED LOCATION OFF YOUR WEBSITE. DON'T LET PEOPLE MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO CHECK VEHICLES IN THERE. THAT'S STUPID. Second, hire more staff at peak times. I'm going to guess 3 to 7 PM is probably one of your peak times. Your competitors do it better.

I HAD TO DRIVE 15 MILES TO DIFFERENT PLACE TO PICK UP AND 15 MILES BACK FROM WHERE I ORIGINALLY RENTED THIS TRUCK. ALSO AFTER GETTING THE DRIVERSIDE FLOOR HAD A PUDDLE OF LIQUID OR OIL IN IT. THE GUY WORKING IN THE OFFICE HELPED WIPE THE OIL UP. I LEFT GOT ABOUT 10 MIN AWAY AND SAW THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DRIPPING WHAT LOOKED LIKE BRAKE FLUID. I PULLED OVER AND TRIED TO CALL FOR ANOTHER TRUCK FOR OVER AN HOUR. AFER NO LOCATION HAD A TRUCK AND WAS TOLD NOT TO LEAVE AT ANOTHER LOCATION I DROVE AND HOPED THE BRAKES DID NOT FAIL. I THINK UHUAL CAN DO BETTER WITH MAINTENCE AND NOT CHARGING THERE CUSTOMER TO DRIVE MILES THAT WAS NOT ALREADY EXPECTED TO DRIVE. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP, BRET
