Renting from U-Haul added unnecessary stress to an already stressful move. When I arrived, I was told I could not leave my personal vehicle in the parking lot. I was alone, and instead of being offered a reasonable solution, I was condescendingly told the policy was in the contract and “all over the website.” The employee then suggested parking at Burger King but warned that my vehicle could be towed. Not everyone has a second person available to help with transportation, and customers deserve better solutions than that. The return-time situation was even worse. The employee repeatedly assured me I had until 5:30 p.m. the following day to return the van. I verified this information, and another person on speakerphone heard the conversation. Yet when I called around 3 p.m. the next day to ask about charges for keeping the van past 5:30, I was told I was already being charged for another 24 hours because my actual deadline was 1:45 p.m. How can customers be expected to plan accordingly when employees provide conflicting information that directly affects their bills? Moving is stressful and expensive enough without condescending service, misinformation, and unexpected charges. U-Haul needs to improve its communication, hold employees accountable for the information they provide, and treat customers with basic courtesy. This experience was unnecessarily frustrating, and I would think twice before renting from U-Haul again.
